Obama thugs, Obama camp lies, Obama eligibility, Court cases, Orwellian lies

“And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed
–if all records told the same tale–then the lie passed into
history and became truth. “Who controls the past,” ran the
Party slogan, “controls the future: who controls the present
controls the past.”…George Orwell, “1984”

This blog has presented numerous articles comparing the Obama camp and Obama Administration to the Orwellian world of “1984” and Nazi Germany. The attacks on people and information coming from the Obama camp have incessantly spewed forth against anyone questioning Obama. That is bad enough. However, we have had idiot, biased judges and other government officials ignorantly referring to court cases and using the terms citizen and natural born citizen interchangeably.
Yesterday, a commenter on this blog mentioned the attempt from an Obama blogger to create a court case in Virginia, allegedly dismissed against Obama. Here is the article from November 19, 2008.

“Another Obama Camp scam?
When I first read about the Virginia lawsuit claiming Obama is ineligible and the subsequent ruling by the judge, it did not smell right. I have reread the exerpts placed on the internet and after much thought and deciding that I had to read the Petition and the judges ruling, I searched for a record of the filing and hearing on the official Virginia Courts website. I did extensive searching by names and dates and
found nothing. After much searching, I called the clerk of court’s office. I was told that several people had called inquiring about the case and they could find no record of any case.”

“Great News
written by Wild Bill, October 22, 2008

The Virginia lawsuit (actually a Petition for Writ of Mandamus) was filed today. Ironically, we almost missed filing and serving due to the thousands of people downtown today to see Obama speak. In even better news, the Honorable Walter W. Stout III, the chief judge, granted our motion for an emergency hearing and set a briefing schedule. We were required to serve the Board of Elections a copy of the schedule today (which we did). We must file our brief and all supporting evidence on Friday. The Board of Elections has until the 28th to file a response.

We may file a reply on the 29th and the hearing will be held on the 30th at 1:30p.m.
We did send copies of the suit and orders to the local media, but unlike some people, we are more interested in pursuing the legal battle, not whoring ourselves out to the media. For that same reason we are not setting up a website or soliciting donations.
We will let you know how things progress.””

“If this is not another attempt by the Obama camp to shore up credibility and discredit those such as Philip J Berg, please respond with proof to the contrary.
Also, anyone affiliated with Circuit Court Judge Walter W. Stout III in Richmond Virginia, we would love to get a response from you.

RE: WILD BILL CASE

I too believe that this case is a “fake case” based on the following:

1. I conducted multiple searches for the case at http://wasdmz2.courts.state.va.us/CJISWeb/circuit.html — Using a variety of names, including Board of Elections, Elections, Election, etc. — and no case was reported.

2. I contacted Judge Stout’s Office (the judge in the case, per Wild Bill. (Info at http://www.courts.state.va.us/courts/circuit/Richmond/home.html). The clerk there could find no record of the case in the docket.

3. I contacted two local Richmond newspapers, with all the info available. There was no subsequent report on the case. Given that at least local news has reported on all similar cases, I find it very hard to believe that local Richmond news would not report on such a substantial opinion.”

Mount Vernon Statement, CONSTITUTIONAL CONSERVATISM, A STATEMENT FOR THE 21ST CENTURY, We recommit ourselves to the ideas of the American Founding, Constitution

Mount Vernon Statement, February 17, 2010.

THE MOUNT VERNON STATEMENT
CONSTITUTIONAL CONSERVATISM:
A STATEMENT FOR THE 21ST CENTURY
We recommit ourselves to the ideas of the American Founding. Through the Constitution, the Founders created an enduring framework of limited government based on the rule of law. They sought to secure national independence, provide for economic opportunity, establish true religious liberty and maintain a flourishing society of republican self-government.
These principles define us as a country and inspire us as a people. They are responsible for a prosperous, just nation unlike any other in the world. They are our highest achievements, serving not only as powerful beacons to all who strive for freedom and seek self-government, but as warnings to tyrants and despots everywhere.
Each one of these founding ideas is presently under sustained attack. In recent decades, America’s principles have been undermined and redefined in our culture, our universities and our politics. The self-evident truths of 1776 have been supplanted by the notion that no such truths exist. The federal government today ignores the limits of the Constitution, which is increasingly dismissed as obsolete and irrelevant.
Some insist that America must change, cast off the old and put on the new. But where would this lead — forward or backward, up or down? Isn’t this idea of change an empty promise or even a dangerous deception?
The change we urgently need, a change consistent with the American ideal, is not movement away from but toward our founding principles. At this important time, we need a restatement of Constitutional conservatism grounded in the priceless principle of ordered liberty articulated in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
The conservatism of the Declaration asserts self-evident truths based on the laws of nature and nature’s God. It defends life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It traces authority to the consent of the governed. It recognizes man’s self-interest but also his capacity for virtue.
The conservatism of the Constitution limits government’s powers but ensures that government performs its proper job effectively. It refines popular will through the filter of representation. It provides checks and balances through the several branches of government and a federal republic.
A Constitutional conservatism unites all conservatives through the natural fusion provided by American principles. It reminds economic conservatives that morality is essential to limited government, social conservatives that unlimited government is a threat to moral self-government, and national security conservatives that energetic but responsible government is the key to America’s safety and leadership role in the world.
A Constitutional conservatism based on first principles provides the framework for a consistent and meaningful policy agenda.

It applies the principle of limited government based on the rule of law to every proposal.
It honors the central place of individual liberty in American politics and life.
It encourages free enterprise, the individual entrepreneur, and economic reforms grounded in market solutions.
It supports America’s national interest in advancing freedom and opposing tyranny in the world and prudently considers what we can and should do to that end.
It informs conservatism’s firm defense of family, neighborhood, community, and faith.
If we are to succeed in the critical political and policy battles ahead, we must be certain of our purpose. We must begin by retaking and resolutely defending the high ground of America’s founding principles.

Obama thugs, smrstrauss et al, Obama campaign, David Axelrod, Obama camp, Diversions, Disinformation, Paid bloggers, Left wing radicals

“And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed
–if all records told the same tale–then the lie passed into
history and became truth. “Who controls the past,” ran the
Party slogan, “controls the future: who controls the present
controls the past.”…George Orwell, “1984?

We have entered the world of “1984” that George Orwell prophetically wrote about in 1948. Those paying attention know why I regularly quote Orwell. After watching those like Larry Sinclair and then myself being attacked for asking simple questions about Barack Obama, I knew that history was repeating and that is why I began referring to Nazi Germany analogies and quoting Orwell.

Three major aspects of Orwell’s world of “1984” emerged.

Personal attacks.

Misinformation.

Internet scrubbing, changing history.

One of the hallmarks of the Obama campaign, the Obama camp, is diversions and disinformation. This blog has been bombarded with it’s share of attackers, diversionists and misinformation spinners. One of those was smrstrauss.

From Jefferson’s rebels, February 11, 2010.

“Expose: obot SMRSTRAUSS Finally Unmasked!”

“An individual using the tag smrstrauss has been an extraordinarily busy fellow and an annoying enigma on the internet since late 2008, but now his identity is known. Mr. smrstrauss has contributed countless hours, days, weeks, months, and thousands of comments to defend Barack Obama against everyone who questions the President’s eligibility. Smrstrauss sometimes writes long essay comments, and he often cites case law, so if you didn’t know better, you would be excused for thinking he’s an attorney. I can assure you he is not!”

“Such intense activity by smrstrauss would make sense if Obama is paying him to confuse people about his eligibility to serve as President, but I have no way to confirm this without filing a Freedom of Information request of the administration.
If smrstrauss is not being paid by someone, then his efforts must be a labor of love, and for that President Obama may eventually consider bestowing the Presidential Citizens Medal upon this gentleman for his obsessive/compulsive determination to defend The One, irrespective of the truth.”

“Even though the Obama administration, the media, left-wing blogs, and a fair number of befuddled conservatives would have you believe the eligibility question only refers to Obama’s place of birth, this couldn’t be further from the truth. By accepting that false premise, and considering no alternative, many people have been duped.  As a result, they have fallen in line with the Alinskyites, and adopted their methodology of ridiculing dissenters to silence their opponent’s speech.”

(Citizen Wells comment to Glen Beck, pay attention)

“Ridiculing someone is a lot easier than trying to understand arguments that need to be heard in a courtroom. That’s the only venue where the eligibility question can be adjudicated, and that is all we constitutionalists request. ”

“Since at least October, 2008, smrstrauss has regularly commented about the eligibility question on virtually every conservative blog which raises the issue. He has also commented on mainstream media sites that discuss the controversy. In fact, smrstrauss has left so many comments on the internet that a keyword search for his tag returns a huge, and continuously growing, number of hits. For example, on January 29, 2010, the search returned 17,500 hits! Just ten days later on February 8, 2010, the search returned 18,900 hits. And today, February 11, 2010, the search returned 19,100 hits. Now to be fair to smrstrauss, some of those hits will be responses to his comments and thus cite his name. Not long after this article is published, I’m confident the number of hits will be even larger. Try a keyword search yourself to test the results.

Can one person be responsible for that much activity? Maybe, if that’s all he does with his time. Then again, maybe not. It’s equally possible that smrstrauss is coordinating with a small army of obots, all using his tag and perhaps sharing a password, since many sites require registration. If so, could this be a rogue operation of Obama devotees, or it could also be a paid disinformation campaign?  Are tax dollars being used for this? Does anyone remember Cas Sunstein’s arguments for cognitively infiltrating “conspiracy” blogs? Perhaps smrstrauss is simply the managing director of a government-funded obot machine.
I met smrstrauss when he attempted to post comments on Jefferson’s Rebels that I viewed as disinformation. Recently, he has used three different ip addresses:
173.76.208.195 – located in Arlington, MA
96.237.177.91 – located in Arlington, MA
173.76.235.195 – located in Groton, MA (a sports facility about 35 miles from Arlington)
Based on his political donation records, it’s possible that smrstrauss presently may be unemployed. Furthermore, most of his comments have been written in the middle of a work day, although there are a number of comments recorded in the evening. If he is being paid, we might need to take a closer look at an employer he listed on his contribution forms. In previous years, Smrstrauss worked for IDC, Inc. This very large corporation is headquartered in Framingham, MA, about 19 miles from the home of smrstrauss. Business Week describes IDC as follows:”

Obama, Columbia University, Selective Service, Breaking The War Mentality, 1980, 1983, Did Obama attend Columbia?, Did Obama register with Selective Service?

During the past two years I have read countless articles about Obama, his past and his associations. In conjunction and in many cases in harmony with many others questioning Obama, I have pondered and maintained in the recesses of my memory numerous troubling controversies. Recently, Pastor James Manning  alleged that Obama did not attend Columbia University (college) and that the Saudis paid for his Harvard education. I find that allegation plausible.

It is well documented that Obama has employed many attorneys to avoid presenting his birth certificate, college records and other data such as passports he traveled under. Obama’s compliance with the Selective Service registration has been scrutinized and is still questionable. Jimmy Carter signed into law on July 2, 1980  Proclamation 4771 of the Military Selective Service Act. Under this law, Obama would have to register

“1-103. Persons born in calendar year 1961 shall present themselves for registration on any of the six days beginning Monday, July 28, 1980.”

There are many aspects of an alleged record of Obama’s compliance that are disturbing, not the least of which is the signature.

The article allegedly written by Barack Obama while at Columbia and published in March 10, 1983 is interesting without being linked to other aspects of Obama’s past.

“Breaking The War Mentality”

Here are a few exerpts to ponder:

“Most students at Columbia do not have first hand knowledge of war.”

“Look, we say, here’s the worst part, let’s work on that.  You’re not going to get rid of the military in the near future, so let’s at least work on this.””

“Also operating out of Earl Hall Center, Students Against Militarism was formed in response to the passage of registration laws in 1980.”

“At this time, the current major issue is the Solomon Bill, the latest legislation from Congress to obtain compliance to registration.  The law requires that all male students applying for federal financial aid submit proof of registration, or else the government coffers will close.  Yale, Wesleyan, and Swathmore have refused to comply, and plan to offer non-registrants other forms of financial aid.  SAM hopes to press Columbia into following suit, though so far President Sovern and company seem prepared to acquiesce to the bill.”

“Robert believes students tacitly support non-registrants, though the majority did not comply.  “Several students have come up to our tables and said that had they known of the ineffectiveness of prosecution, they would not have registered.””

“Prodding students into participating beyond name signing and attending events is tricky, but SAM members seem undaunted.  “A lot of the problem comes not from people’s ignorance of the facts, but because the news and statistics are lifeless.  That’s why we search for campus issues like the Solomon bill that have direct impact on the student body, and effectively link the campus to broader issues.””

So little from Barack Obama’s past is available. The glimpse into his activities and associations that we do get is cause for great concern.

Do not be surprised to see more of this presented here.

Scott Brown wins senate race, MA senate seat, Brown defeats Martha Coakley, January 19, 2010, Brown Campaign Could Provide Blueprint for Future GOP Success

Republican Scott Brown has defeated Democrat Martha Coakley to win the MA senate seat held for many years by Ted Kennedy. With 87% of the vote in, Brown leads Coakley 52 to 47%. Even before the election results, it was clear that Scott Brown was doing many things right in his campaign.

From Fox News, January 19, 2010.

“Brown Campaign Could Provide Blueprint for Future GOP Success”

“For GOP candidate Scott Brown to surge in Massachusetts, a state that hasn’t sent a Republican to the Senate since 1972 and is represented entirely by Democrats in Congress, he must have done something right.

And the Republican Party should be taking notes, analysts say, to try to replicate his strategy in races across the country in a year when GOP candidates are thought to be starting out with the upper hand.

Win or lose, the Massachusetts state senator proved that a Republican can be competitive in the bluest of states or districts.

“Every Republican long shot in America — for House seats, Senate seats, gubernatorial contests, is going to shout in unison – Remember Scott Brown,” said Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics.”

“But Brown practiced a certain practical conservatism in his campaign which appealed to voters, not unlike Chris Christie in the race for New Jersey governor and Bob McDonnell in the race for Virginia governor.

By concentrating on fiscal issues and focusing his criticism on the national Obama administration agenda, Republicans said, Brown brought himself to the verge of an upset.

“The lesson I take away from Massachusetts, win or lose, and New Jersey and Virginia prior to that, is there is no penalty to be paid for opposing the Obama agenda,” said GOPAC Chairman Frank Donatelli. “All three of these elections were nationalized.”

He said GOP candidates have to stand for something and they can’t just present themselves as the anti-Obama candidate. But he said Brown achieved this balance — noting that Brown, an Army reservist and seasoned state legislator, hardly came out of nowhere.”

“He said Brown did well by not presenting himself as a Washington Republican. Driving around the state in his pickup truck, Brown referred to himself as a “Scott Brown Republican” in what appeared to be an appeal to independents. Instead of dragging out the party brass to support him, Brown enlisted figures like former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling and actor John Ratzenberger.

“People don’t want lockstep,” Feehery said. “They want independent thought and somebody who’s going to be an independent check on Obama.””

Scott Brown campaigns in Middleboro MA, January 16, 2010, MA Senate race, True Republican, Videos, Youtube video, Everett Square, Spoke from the back of a pickup truck, You deserve better, Taxes, Creating jobs

From Everett News, January 17, 2010.

“Scott Brown campaigns in Middleboro on Saturday night
More than 500 supporters attend event”

“MIDDLEBORO — Scott Brown pulled into Everett Square on Saturday night and spoke from the back of a pickup truck to more than 500 supporters.

The crowd filled the Flat Iron Cafe and even spilled out into the square, filling the parking lot of the Rockland Trust Bank.

Brown spoke briefly to the crowd and was greeted with cheers and chants as he outlined his platform and said.

“You deserve better. … When I go to Washington, I will do my very best to stop backroom deals. We’ve lost our way,” he told the crowd.

Brown spent more time on the ground shaking hands with the crowd, which was a cross section of steel workers, farmers, doctors and the unemployed.

Many, like David Ng of Pembroke, had already voted by absentee ballot. Ng said his vote was against “everything the Democrats try to ram down our throats.””

“Brown’s stand on taxes and creating jobs was a high priority for Voneow. Bill is out of work, and the couple is trying to make ends meet on one paycheck.

“He stands for working like a true Republican instead of feeding special interests. He’s the guy I think can help us,” said Bill.”

“Her husband, Norman, 88, a former member of the Planning Board had already voted for Brown by absentee ballot. Their son, Douglas, said he supports Brown because “he’ll take the reigns of government back from socialist concerns.”

Many in the crowd said the election has national ramifications, calling it a vote that will be heard around the world.”

Citizen Wells letter to citizens of MA, The shot heard round the world, Scott Brown, Big government tyranny, NC and MA common bond, thirteen original colonies, American Revolution, Lives Fortunes and Sacred Honor

To: The citizens of Massachusetts

From: Citizen Wells, citizens of NC and citizens of America.

Massachusetts and North Carolina were 2 of the thirteen original colonies. We share common ancestry, common roots in the formation of this country and common bonds that continue to this day. My ancestors, English, Scots/Irish and German were living in NC prior to the American Revolution. When word of “the shot heard round the world” from Concord, MA reached the good people of NC, they were outraged.

In August 14, 1775, they responded. My ancestor, John Wells, was one of the signers.
The Tryon Resolves
“The unprecedented, barbarous and bloody actions committed by British troops on our American brethren near Boston, on 19th April and 20th of May last, together with the hostile operations and treacherous designs now carrying on, by the tools of ministerial vengeance, for the subjugation of all British America, suggest to us the painful necessity of having recourse to arms in defense of our National freedom and constitutional rights, against all invasions; and at the same time do solemnly engage to take up arms and risk our lives and our fortunes in maintaining the freedom of our country whenever the wisdom and counsel of the Continental Congress or our Provincial Convention shall declare it necessary; and this engagement we will continue in for the preservation of those rights and liberties which the principals of our Constitution and the laws of God, nature and nations have made it our duty to defend. We therefore, the subscribers, freeholders and inhabitants of Tryon County, do here by faithfully unite ourselves under the most solemn ties of religion, honor and love to our county, firmly to resist force by force, and hold sacred till a reconciliation shall take place between Great Britain and America on Constitutional principals, which we most ardently desire, and do firmly agree to hold all such persons as inimical to the liberties of America who shall refuse to sign this association.”
On September 14, 1775 many of the signers formed the Tryon County Militia in preparation for British retaliation against the American colonists.
In the spirit of their Lives, Fortunes and Sacred Honor commitment of our ancestors, we are asking you to once again, fire “the shot heard round the world.” Stand up to big government and send a clear signal that once again we will no longer tolerate tyranny. Vote for Scott Brown.
This exceptional video explains our plea.

Saudi government, Saudis bought Obama 2008 election, James Manning video, Saudis bought Columbia University, Obama Columbia degree, Obama Harvard degree, Saudis bought large share of Fox network, Obama in Afghanistan

Many Americans were stunned and outraged when this news and photo of Obama bowing low to the Saudi king emerged.

Now listen to Pastor Dr. James Manning, a man I have come to respect for his intelligence, articulation and patriotism.

Now do you understand why Obama bowed so low to the Saudi King?

Now do you understand why…..

Why Obama attended Jeremiah Wright’s TUCC church.

Why Louis Farrakhan attended TUCC church.

Why Wright and Farrakhan traveled to Libya and met with Moammar Kadafi (Ghadafi).

Why Obama did not take Federal matching funds.

How Obama stole the Democrat primaries and caucuses.

How Obama was able to utilize so many Internet and other resources to steal the 2008 election.

Why Obama traveled to Pakistan in1981.

Why nobody remembers Obama being a student at Columbia.

Why Khalid al-Mansour and the Saudis paid for Obama’s Harvard education.

Why Syrian born Tony Rezko made contact with Obama while at Harvard.

Why Obama wanted Gitmo closed and Muslim terrorists given US Constitutional Rights.

Why the Saudis paid for Obama’ grandmother, Sarah Obama to fly to Mecca.

Why the Fox network will not touch Obama’s eligibility issues.

Obama is a Muslim.

And the biggest why of all….

Why Obama has employed a legion of private and government attorneys to avoid presenting a legitimate birth certificate and college records.

Everything makes more sense now, doesn’t it.

God bless Pastor Dr. James Manning.

Pastor James Manning, Columbia University treason, Obama treason, Manning claims Obama did not attend, Alleged Columbia Obama article, 1983, Breaking the war mentality

Pastor James Manning of Atlah Ministries in Harlem, New York City, is charging Columbia University with treason. Pastor Manning alleges that Obama was in Afghanistan during the period of time from 1981 to 1983 when Obama was supposedly attending Columbia. The following document is allegedly an article written by Barack Obama in 1983 and published in the  Sundial . The Citizen Wells blog will be publishing an article soon that will shed light on why Dr. James Manning’s allegations may not be as far fetched as the casual observer may believe. It is believed at the Citizen Wells blog that Obama was probably enrolled and/or affiliated with Columbia University. The question is, what was that connection and did Obama, as Manning alleges, spend much time in Afghanistan.

Here is the text from the article, typed for clarity. Below is a link to a copy of the article. No claims are made here as to the authenticity of the article or as to whether Barack Obama is the author. Commentary about the content will be reserved for the following article.

“BREAKING THE WAR MENTALITY

By Barack Obama

Most students at Columbia do not have first hand knowledge of war.  Military violence has been a vicarious experience, channeled into our minds through television, film, and print.

The more sensitive among us struggle to extrapolate experiences of war from our everyday experience, discussing the latest mortality statistics from Guatemala, sensitizing ourselves to our parents’ wartime memories, or incorporation into our framework of reality as depicted by a Mailer or a Coppola.  But the taste of war – the sounds and chill, the dead bodies – are remote and far removed.  We know that wars have occurred, will occur, are occurring, but bringing such experience down into our hearts, and taking continual, tangible steps to prevent war, becomes a difficult task.

Two groups on campus, Arms Race Alternatives (ARA) and Students Against Militarism (SAM), work within these mental limits to foster awareness and practical action necessary to counter the growing threat of war.  Though the emphasis of the two groups differ, they share an aversion to current government policy.  These groups, visualizing the possibilities of destruction and grasping the tendencies of distorted national priorities, are throwing their weight into shifting America off the dead-end track.

Most people my age remember well the air-raid drills in school, under the desk with our heads tucked between our legs.  Older people, they remember the Cuban Missile Crisis.  I think these kinds of things left an indelible mark on our souls, so we’re more apt to be concerned,” says Don Kent, assistant director of programs and student activities at Earl Hall Center.  Along with the community Volunteer Service Center, ARA has been Don’s primary concern, coordinating various working groups of faculty, students, and staff.  “Hot issues, particularly El Salvador, were occupying students at the time, consequently, we cosponsored a lot of activities with community organizations like SANE (Students Against Nuclear Energy).”

With the flowering of the nuclear Freeze movement, and particularly the June 12 rally in Central Park, however, student participation has expanded.  One wonders whether this upsurge stems from young people’s penchant for the latest “happenings”, or from growing awareness of the consequences of nuclear holocaust.  ARA maintains a mailing list of 500 persons and Don Kent estimates that approximately half of the active members are students.  Although he feels that continuity is provided by the faculty and staff members, student attendance at ARA sponsored events – in particular a November 11 convocation on the nuclear threat – reveals a deep reservoir of concern.  “I think students on this campus like to think of themselves as sophisticated, and don’t appreciate small vision.  So they tend to come out more for the events; they do not want to just fold leaflets.”

Mark Bigelow, a graduate intern from Union
Theological Seminary who works with Dan to keep ARA running smoothly, agrees.  “It seems that students here are fairly aware of the nuclear problem, and it makes for an underlying frustration.  We try to talk to that frustration.”  Consequently, the thrust of ARA is towards generating dialogue which will give people a rational handle on this controversial subject.  This includes bringing speakers like Daniel Ellsberg to campus, publishing fact sheets compiled by interested faculty, and investigating the possible development of an interdisciplinary program in the Columbia curriculum dealing with peace, disarmament and world order.

Tied in with such a thrust is the absence of what Don calls “a party line.”  By taking an almost apolitical approach to the problem, ARA hopes to get the university to take nuclear arms issues seriously.  “People don’t like having their intelligence insulted,” says Don. “so we try to disseminate information and allow the individual to make his or her own decision.”

Generally, the narrow focus of the Freeze movement as well as academic discussions of first versus second strike capabilities, suit the military-industrial interests, as they continue adding in their billion dollar erector sets.  When Peter Tosh sings that “everybody’s asking for peace, but nobody’s asking for justice,” one is forced to wonder whether disarmament or arms control issues, severed from economic and political issues, might be another instance of focusing on the symptoms of a problem instead of the disease itself.  Mark Bigelow does not think so.  “We do focus primarily on catastrophic weapons.

Look, we say, here’s the worst part, let’s work on that.  You’re not going to get rid of the military in the near future, so let’s at least work on this.”

Mark Bigelow does feel that the links are there, and points to fruitful work being done by other organizations involved with disarmament.  “The Freeze is one part of a whole disarmament movement. The lowest common denominator, so to speak.  For instance, April 10-16 is Jobs For Peace week, with a bunch of things going on around the city.  Also, the New York City Council may pass a resolution in April calling for greater social as opposed to military spending.  Things like this may dispel the idea that disarmament is a white issue, because how the government spends its revenue affects everyone.”

The very real advantages of concentrating on a single issue is leading the National Freeze movement to challenge individual missile systems, while continuing the broader campaign.  This year, Mark Bigelow sees the checking of Pershing II and Cruise missile deployment as crucial.  “Because of their small size and mobility, their deployment will make possible arms control verification far more difficult, and will cut down warning time for the Soviets to less than ten minutes.  That can only be a destabilizing factor.  “Additionally, he sees the initiation by the U.S. of the Test Ban Treaty as a powerful first step towards a nuclear free world.

ARA encourages members to join buses to Washington and participate in a March 7-8 rally intended to push through the Freeze resolution which is making its seconds trip through the House.  ARA also will ask United Campuses to Prevent Nuclear War (UCAM), an information and lobbying network based in universities, nationwide, to serve as its advisory board in the near future.  Because of its autonomy from Columbia (which does not fund political organizations) UCAM could conceivably become a more active arm of disarmament campaigns on campus, though the ARA will continue to function solely as a vehicle for information and discussion.

Also operating out of Earl Hall Center, Students Against Militarism was formed in response to the passage of registration laws in 1980.  An entirely student-run organization, SAM casts a wider net than ARA, though for the purposes of effectiveness, they have tried to lock in on one issue at a time.

“At the heart of our organization is an anti-war focus”, says junior Robert Kahn, one of SAM’s fifteen or so active members.  “From there, a lot of issues shoot forth – nukes, racism, the draft, and South Africa.  “We have been better organized when taking one issue at a time, but we are always cognizant of other things going on, and collaborate frequently with other campus organizations like CISPES and REEL-POLITIK.”

At this time, the current major issue is the Solomon Bill, the latest legislation from Congress to obtain compliance to registration.  The law requires that all male students applying for federal financial aid submit proof of registration, or else the government coffers will close.  Yale, Wesleyan, and Swathmore have refused to comply, and plan to offer non-registrants other forms of financial aid.  SAM hopes to press Columbia into following suit, though so far President Sovern and company seem prepared to acquiesce to the bill.

Robert believes students tacitly support non-registrants, though the majority did not comply.  “Several students have come up to our tables and said that had they known of the ineffectiveness of prosecution, they would not have registered.”  A measure of such underlying support is the 400 signatures, on a petition protesting the Solomon Bill, which SAM collected the first four hours it appeared.  Robert also points out that prior to registration, there were four separate bills circulation in the House proposing a return to the draft, but none ever got out of committees, and there have not been renewed efforts.  An estimated half-million registrants can definitely be a powerful signal.

Prodding students into participating beyond name signing and attending events is tricky, but SAM members seem undaunted.  “A lot of the problem comes not from people’s ignorance of the facts, but because the news and statistics are lifeless.  That’s why we search for campus issues like the Solomon bill that have direct impact on the student body, and effectively link the campus to broader issues.”  By organizing and educating the Columbia community, such activities lay the foundation for future mobilization against the relentless, often silent spread of militarism in the county.  “The time is right to tie together social and military issues, “Robert continues, “and the more strident the Administration becomes, the more aware people are of their real interests.

The belief that moribund institutions, rather than individuals are at the root of the problem, keep SAM’s energies alive.  “A prerequisite for members of an organization like ours is the faith that people are fundamentally good, but you need to show them.  And when you look at the work people are doing across the county, it makes you optimistic.

Perhaps the essential goodness of humanity is an arguable proposition, but by observing the SAM meeting last Thursday night, with its solid turnout and enthusiasm, one might be persuaded that the manifestations of our better instincts can at least match the bad ones.   Regarding Columbia’s possible compliance, one comment in particular hit upon an important point with the Solomon bill, “The thing we need to do is expose how Columbia is talking out of two sides of its mouth.”

Indeed the most pervasive malady of the collegiate system specifically, and the American experience generally, in that elaborate patterns of knowledge and theory have been disembodied from individual choices and government policy.  What the members of ARA and SAM try to do is infuse what they have learned about the current situation, bring the words of that formidable roster on the face of Butler Library, names like Thoreau, Jefferson, and Whitman, to bear on the twisted logic of which we are today a part.  By adding their energy and effort in order to enhance the possibility of a decent world, they may help deprive us of a spectacular experience – that of war.  But then, there are some things we shouldn’t have to live through in order to want to avoid the experience.”

“I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and
defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies,
foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to
the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental
reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully
discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter.
So help me God.”
US Military officer’s oath of office

Officers in the service of the United States are
bound by this oath to disobey any order that
violates the Constitution of the United States.

From the 20th Amendment to the US Constitution.

“or if the President elect shall have failed to qualify, then the Vice President elect shall act as President until
a President shall have qualified;”

I never refer to Barack Obama as president. The 20th Amendment to the US Constitution reveals why.

Zach, the name I use for the owner of the Zach Jones Is Home blog, has been a patriot blogger for almost two years, in the struggle to expose the truth about Barack Obama and to save this country. I have had many phone and email discussions with Zach. He has been an invaluable contributor to this blog and to the combined efforts of citizen journalists. In the article below provided by Zach today, January 1, 2010, Zach writes of his and his family’s military service. I would like to thank Zach, his family and all of those who have served this country in the military. I would also like to thank Zach for his efforts to reveal the truth about Obama and to take back this country.

From Zach Jones Is Home, January 1, 2010.

“American Soldiers – Tortured Duty & Tortured Mission – The Whys and Whats Becoming Harder to Answer?”

“Families that honor military service are spread all across this nation.  I grew up in one. Even as a teenager in the sixties, I remember knowing that freedom wasn’t free.  My father had served in Patton’s 3rd Army, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and served as a guard at the Nuremberg War Trials. How could I not know the price of freedom? WWII, now that was a just war.  Everyone knew it.  Everyone knew the war had to be won at all costs because failure clearly meant tyranny and death for an entire people, the Jewish people. Everyone knew, even the media knew the Whys and Whats.  Why they were fighting? What they were fighting for? They knew the cost of winning and losing! And,  victory wasn’t a dirty word.

However, my brother and I served in the United States Navy during a time in America’s history dominated by numbing callousness, selfishness, and indifference.  The loss of the Vietnam War brought about by the media and endless protests of duplicitous, naïve dreamers and schemers; the festering pain of Watergate continuously exploited by politicians in D.C., the good but lackluster caretaker President Ford portrayed as a bumbling stumbling fool on Saturday Night Live, the My Lai massacre and Lt. Calley’s conviction not quite distant enough to avoid its stench, and a war/corruption weary people’s vote for change promised by Jimmy Carter all marked this period.  Amazingly, like today, Carter’s change didn’t live up to expectations. Instead it brought gas lines, high inflation, 20+ percent interest rates and high unemployment – despair.”

“It was a perfect storm that had brought us Carter Presidency.  And with it’s battered and bruised image, the United States military seemed to have a hell of time riding out that storm until President Reagan could put his hands to the reigns. Reagan’s zero-tolerance drug testing came along after I got out and things started turning around rather quickly according to my brother.  I believe the foundation that President Reagan built (or rebuilt) continues to serve soldiers today and will not be easily surrendered by the military leadership.”

“See no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil is not a command structure that serves the military or the individual soldier well.  Neither is going with the flow.

But it’s the military leadership, the career guys and gals, who have a shot at controlling or changing the flow. Yes, sometimes they fail, but it’s their job to address the issues. It’s especially egregious when they, like politicians, just won’t see or acknowledge that something is becoming a problem – when they don’t want to get ‘their’ hands dirty or risk jeopardizing ‘their’ career paths.  Two words – Ft. Hood.

And so I come to write this conflicted accolade to today’s American Soldier.”

“Soldiers serving in the first few years after 9/11 must have had an incredible sense of the Whys and Whats that carried them through each and every day.”

“Today, we have Obama in the Oval Office and a Democratic controlled Congress (dominated by the radical left since 2006) and they are galloping as fast as they can towards creating a socialist system that would make Vladimir Ilyich Lenin proud. If you look past the rhetoric you easily see that they are attempting to create larger and larger voting blocks that are wholly dependent on the federal government, hands out, afraid to question anything, afraid to vote for anyone calling for personal responsibility. Having a nation of sheeple, like birds at a bird feeder, is not good for the country or our future. Look at the recent action Obama took diminishing our American sovereignty on Dec. 17. Constitution be damned.  Does anyone really think the Second Amendment is safe?”

“I use the phrase “defending freedom overseas” instead of “around the world” because, as much as I love them, I’m not sure they are defending our freedoms at home.  I can’t really blame the enlisted soldier because when I was in the military, I didn’t have time to keep up with what politicians at home were attempting to do to us. I basically thought politicians were all self-serving pieces of crap and the voting process would weed them out.  Unfortunately, that’s not the case today. (The statement that politicians “were all self-serving pieces of crap” is still accurate, but the vote might not be able to undo the damage they are doing to our freedoms and the Constitution.)

And the military leadership continues to see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil and ignore “the flow” that’s becoming more and more turbulent.

(And the American soldier is expected to accept “the flow” as he or she finds it?)”

“All of these illustrate situations where officers up the chain of command, including the “Commander In Chief”, appear ready to shirk their duty to the Constitution and America Soldiers under their command so they can protect their relatively trivial career ambitions and/or pursue their personal political agendas.

This is when it becomes hard to answer the Whats and Whys.  What does support and defend the Constitution mean?  Who are the enemies of the United States?  Why am I defending something that seems optional for my superior officers?   What is really important to the chain of command – advancement, career or the Oath? Who are the Oathkeepers? Why should I obey my superior officers when they choose to ignore parts of the Constitution? What’s the point? What am I doing that protects the Constitution and the Freedoms of my family and friends?”

“The duty – I think of this as the soldier doing his or her best to live up to the oath they took when they enlisted.  Basically the duty is to support, protect and defend the Constitution and the freedoms/protections flowing from it to each and every citizen.”

“The “natural born citizen” issue will not go away and I’m sure it’s on the minds of many in the military; it affects morale, re-enlistment decisions, and how many traditional military supporters view the institution.  It’s similar to how the epidemic of drug use in the 70’s military effected civilians & soldiers who knew about the problem and cared about what it said about the institution.”

“To the American Soldier – Thank you for your service and sacrifices for this country.

I am truly sorry to be in the position of having to speak so bluntly about an institution that I love.”
