“In case there was any confusion just how “historic” last week’s agreement with Iran, loudly trumpeted by the Obama administration as the most “historic” since Syria in a, well, long time, truly was in terms of curbing Iran’s nuclear ambitions, here is the explanation straight from the horse’s mouth i.e., Iran president Hassan Rouhani who spoke today in an interview with the FT. “Mr Rouhani struck a tough line on Iran’s expectations over a comprehensive nuclear deal to be negotiated following last weekend’s landmark interim pact. “One hundred per cent [no],” he said when asked about dismantling nuclear facilities.” So ixnay on the ismantleday. What about halting Uranium enrichment – that other pillar of Obama (and Hollande’s of course) historic agreement? “[Rouhani] made clear that Tehran was determined to maintain a uranium enrichment programme for peaceful purposes.” In other words, Iran will continue doing what it said it did before, only this time it will get billions of implicit subsidies as various embargoes are lifted.”

From WND November 29, 2013.

“AYATOLLAH: ‘WIPE ISRAEL OFF FACE OF EARTH’
Says Jewish state must be obliterated”

“An influential Iranian cleric has warned President Obama not to include Israel in any nuclear negotiations because the Jewish state must be destroyed.

“What is visible is that Obama has agreed to include the fake Zionist regime (Israel) in future negotiations,” said Ayatollah Mohammad Khatami, a member of Iran’s Assembly of Experts.

“However, we firmly believe [Israel] must be wiped off the face of the earth and we don’t recognize [its existence].” Khatami said according to IRNA, the official news agency of the Islamic Republic.

The Assembly of Experts is responsible for appointing the regime’s supreme leader.

After the six-month interim deal was reached last weekend, Obama asked in a telephone call to Benjamin Netanyahu that the Israeli prime minister “take a breather” in his vocal denunciation of the agreement. In return, the two agreed that Israel would send a delegation, headed by Israeli National Security Adviser Yossi Cohen, to Washington to discuss strategy for a permanent agreement.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Friday that all further discussions will have to leave out Israel, IRNA reported, because Iran would not attend a meeting with a state that is headquartered in Jerusalem.

“We consider the Zionist regime as the biggest danger to the region and the world,” Zarif said.

Khatami said America cannot be trusted and that it’s obvious it wants to break its promises made at the Geneva meeting.

“Already, when the ink of the Geneva agreement is not yet dry, the lie is reflected on websites that Iran does not have (uranium) enrichment rights,” he said.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly objected to a White House press release on the terms of last weekend’s Geneva agreement.

“What has been released by the website of the White House as a fact sheet is a one-sided interpretation of the agreed text in Geneva, and some of the explanations and words in the sheet contradict the text of the Joint Plan of Action (the title of the Iran-5+1 world powers deal), and this fact sheet has unfortunately been translated and released in the name of the Geneva agreement by certain media, which is not true,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said Tuesday.”

“Khamenei, as negotiations resumed last week, told thousands of Basij militia forces that the Iranian strategy was an “artistic maneuver and the use of different tactics (would be used) to reach different goals and ideals” of the Islamic regime. Stalling tactics for more than a decade have allowed Iran to greatly enhance its nuclear capability to the point it could become nuclear-armed within weeks.”

From the Raleigh News Observer November 26, 2013.

“Blue Cross rates for reinstated health plans in NC approved”

“The state Department of Insurance has approved the rate hikes proposed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina for 2013 individual health insurance plans that are being extended next year.

The health plans had been slated for elimination under the Affordable Care Act, the nation’s health care law, but Blue Cross officials said earlier this month the company would offer the plans next year. President Barack Obama urged insurers to extend the individual plans for one year amid a public outcry over forced cancellations and steep price increases for replacement plans.

After an expedited review, the N.C. Department of Insurance approved an average increase for Blue Advantage plans of 16.4 percent; for Blue Value, 22 percent; and for Blue Options HSA, 23.6 percent.

The increase is double the price inflation for the same health plans just a year ago. But many Blue Cross customers have welcomed the return of the plans.

The extension applies only to Blue Cross customers on individual plans who were enrolled on or before Oct. 1. Those who signed up after will lose their plans at the end of this year. Legislation before Congress would allow all Americans to buy the 2013 plans, not just those who enrolled by the Oct. 1 deadline.

Blue Cross had mailed out more than 151,000 plan cancellations, affecting more than 230,000 customers on those individual policies. The letters listed 2014 premiums under new individual plans that comply with the Affordable Care Act. Some customers saw rate decreases, but many were shaken by increases that doubled and tripled their costs.”

“Not every item of news should be published: rather must
those who control news policies endeavor to make every item
of news serve a certain purpose.”… Joseph Goebbels

One of my friends, who also has German ancestry, and I got into a heated debate several months ago. He has not stayed on top of the news and researched Obama and Obamacare. He told me we should wait and see and give Obamacare a chance. Like so much of what has happened since 2008 this reminded me once again of Nazi Germany.

How many people in pre war Nazi Germany said Give Hitler a chance?

Wait and see.

I thought about this for several days and when I next saw him I said:

Abwarten und sehen.

Wait and see in German.

I made my point.

From Byron York and The Washington Examiner November 25, 2013.

“Why voters are finished believing Obama’s health care promises”

“In April, Real Clear Politics’ average of polls showed that 47 percent of Americans opposed Obamacare, while 41 percent supported it — a 6-percentage-point edge for opponents of the president’s health care law, which at the time was still months away from implementation.

The latest average of polls, less than two months into the law’s rollout, shows 57 percent opposing Obamacare, with 38 percent supporting — an enormous 19-point gap between opponents and supporters.

The two numbers explain why Republicans made little progress when they tried to warn Americans about Obamacare. For years, GOP warnings about Obamacare were about something that had not yet arrived. People had not experienced Obamacare, did not have friends who had experienced it and didn’t fully understand what it was. Many tuned out the Republican alarms.

Now that has changed. Millions of Americans are unhappy with what they have experienced under Obamacare — canceled policies, higher premiums and sky-high deductibles. They are also much more likely to believe predictions of future problems. They’ve seen what has already happened and now know it can get worse.

So how can it get worse? So far, Obamacare has upended the individual market for health insurance, which covers about 10 million people. The next step, according to the respected health care analyst Robert Laszewski, will likely come in the small-employer market, meaning businesses with anywhere between two and 50 employees. That covers about 45 million people.

“Obamacare is impacting the small-group insurance market in many of the same ways as the individual health insurance market,” Laszewski writes. Under Obamacare, the small employers who offer their workers health coverage will be “required to comply with the same essential benefit mandates, age rating changes, and pre-existing condition reforms the individual market faces. That means essentially all small group policies cannot continue as they are — they have to be discontinued.””

“In the three and a half years between March 23, 2010, the day Obamacare was signed into law, and Oct. 1, 2013, the day its implementation got under way, millions of voters, no matter what doubts they might have had, thought it best to give Obamacare a chance to work. That’s why they didn’t respond to the GOP’s dire warnings. But now, they’ve seen what Obamacare can mean in their lives. And they won’t be buying any more promises.”

Iran Deal Could Cause Nuclear Attack on US, Economics Minister Naftali Bennett warning, Bad deal gives Iran exactly what it wanted, Retains most significant parts of its nuclear program

“What was agreed last night in Geneva is not a historic agreement, it is a historic mistake,”…Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu

“We awoke this morning to a new reality. A reality in which a bad deal was signed with Iran. A very bad deal,”…Economics Minister Naftali Bennett

“Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.”…George Orwell, “1984″

I heard Economics Minister Naftali Bennett being interviewed recently. He impresses me as highly intelligent, articulate and reasonable.

From Arutz Sheva 7 November 24, 2013.

“Bennett Warns: Iran Deal Could Cause Nuclear Attack on US”

“In response to breaking news of deal between world powers, nuclear Iran, Bennett issues warning of long-term implications.”

“Economics Minister Naftali Bennett, who has been on a mission in the US over the past few weeks to prevent Sunday’sdeal between Western powers and a nuclear Iran, has released a scathing response to the breaking news.

“We awoke this morning to a new reality. A reality in which a bad deal was signed with Iran. A very bad deal,” Bennett stated on his Facebook page. “This bad deal gives Iran exactly what it wanted: a significant easing of the sanctions while retaining the most significant parts of its nuclear program.”

Bennett emphasized the long-term implications of the deal, stating that “if a nuclear suitcase blows up five years from now in New York or Madrid, it will be because of the deal that was signed this morning.”

The remarks provide a telling rebuttal to claims by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, an alleged moderate, that “Israel is only concerned about its own interests, and it does not think about the interests of the world.””

What it’s like to be poor and make terrible decisions, Poverty thoughts, Obama economy, Smoking a stimulant for exhausted, Lot of poor financial decisions, Poor exploited units of human capital

“In the Triad, a number of studies have ranked the area among the nation’s worst in terms of poverty and food hardship.”

““You have the people that were barely making it with 40 hours. Now, they’re below 30 hours and have the same household bills,” Sturdivant said. “And at the end of the day, if they go out and get another part-time job, they still won’t have insurance.””...Greensboro News Record September 2, 2013

“This commentary does not oppose CHD funding of genuine, grassroots community organizations, run and supported by individual members of a parish or diocese. There is potential value and virtue in the collective voice. However, when the CHD funds Alinsky-style, church-based community organizations as in the best interest of the poor and supports organizations which advance other agendas, it divests the poor of their right to an authentic voice. This process tends to treat the poor as exploited units of human capital, rather than as human beings created in the dignity of God’s image.”…report to the Catholic Bishops 1997

“And the Records Department, after all, was itself only a single branch of the Ministry of Truth, whose primary job was not to reconstruct the past but to supply the citizens of Oceania with newspapers, films, textbooks, telescreen programmes”

“Winston sprang to attention in front of the telescreen, upon which the image of a youngish woman, scrawny but muscular, dressed in tunic and gym-shoes, had already appeared.

‘Arms bending and stretching!’ she rapped out. ‘Take your time by me. One, two, three, four! One, two, three, four! Come on, comrades, put a bit of life into it! One, two, three, four! One, two, three, four! …'”…George Orwell, “1984”

I have much empathy for the poor and those struggling in this country. Especially in the Obama economy.

I was recently reminded of the drop in savings in this country over decades. We are programmed to spend.

The TV screen of “1984” is a reality. We are taught how to think, what to do and what to spend our money on.

We leave our schools ill prepared for survival in any economy.

Many of the poor are so because of bad choices. We all make them. And yet immigrants have come to this country for hundreds of years and fared well.

Despite the facts, it can happen to any of us. The Great Depression humbled many.

At the end of the day, I still believe we should help those in need. A real safety net, not way of life. Teach how to fish and sometimes provide a fish.

“What It’s Like To Be Poor – And Make Terrible Decisions”

“What It’s Like To Be Poor – And Make Terrible Decisions”
“There are many reasons why the poor are ‘poor’ or why the middle-class is deteriorating into a state of being ‘poor’ but as this first-person account of the self-defeating feedback loops of poverty’s trap harrowingly suggests, escaping that social strata (as we noted previously) is becoming ever more difficult. Of course, a George Carlin noted previously, “the only true American value is… buying things,” which leaves the ‘poor’ increasingly losing hope. “Rest is a luxury for the rich,” the author notes, “planning is not in the mix,” as she explains why poverty has forced her to “make terrible decisions.”

Authored by @KillerMartinis (Killer Martinis blog) via The Burning Platform blog,

Why I Make Terrible Decisions, or, poverty thoughts

There’s no way to structure this coherently. They are random observations that might help explain the mental processes. But often, I think that we look at the academic problems of poverty and have no idea of the why. We know the what and the how, and we can see systemic problems, but it’s rare to have a poor person actually explain it on their own behalf. So this is me doing that, sort of.

Rest is a luxury for the rich. I get up at 6AM, go to school (I have a full courseload, but I only have to go to two in-person classes) then work, then I get the kids, then I pick up my husband, then I have half an hour to change and go to Job 2. I get home from that at around 1230AM, then I have the rest of my classes and work to tend to. I’m in bed by 3. This isn’t every day, I have two days off a week from each of my obligations. I use that time to clean the house and soothe Mr. Martini and see the kids for longer than an hour and catch up on schoolwork. Those nights I’m in bed by midnight, but if I go to bed too early I won’t be able to stay up the other nights because I’ll fuck my pattern up, and I drive an hour home from Job 2 so I can’t afford to be sleepy. I never get a day off from work unless I am fairly sick. It doesn’t leave you much room to think about what you are doing, only to attend to the next thing and the next. Planning isn’t in the mix.

When I was pregnant the first time, I was living in a weekly motel for some time. I had a minifridge with no freezer and a microwave. I was on WIC. I ate peanut butter from the jar and frozen burritos because they were 12/$2. Had I had a stove, I couldn’t have made beef burritos that cheaply. And I needed the meat, I was pregnant. I might not have had any prenatal care, but I am intelligent enough to eat protein and iron whilst knocked up.

I know how to cook. I had to take Home Ec to graduate high school. Most people on my level didn’t. Broccoli is intimidating. You have to have a working stove, and pots, and spices, and you’ll have to do the dishes no matter how tired you are or they’ll attract bugs. It is a huge new skill for a lot of people. That’s not great, but it’s true. And if you fuck it up, you could make your family sick. We have learned not to try too hard to be middle-class. It never works out well and always makes you feel worse for having tried and failed yet again. Better not to try. It makes more sense to get food that you know will be palatable and cheap and that keeps well. Junk food is a pleasure that we are allowed to have; why would we give that up? We have very few of them.”
“Nobody gives enough thought to depression. You have to understand that we know that we will never not feel tired. We will never feel hopeful. We will never get a vacation. Ever. We know that the very act of being poor guarantees that we will never not be poor. It doesn’t give us much reason to improve ourselves. We don’t apply for jobs because we know we can’t afford to look nice enough to hold them. I would make a super legal secretary, but I’ve been turned down more than once because I “don’t fit the image of the firm,” which is a nice way of saying “gtfo, pov.” I am good enough to cook the food, hidden away in the kitchen, but my boss won’t make me a server because I don’t “fit the corporate image.” I am not beautiful. I have missing teeth and skin that looks like it will when you live on b12 and coffee and nicotine and no sleep. Beauty is a thing you get when you can afford it, and that’s how you get the job that you need in order to be beautiful. There isn’t much point trying.”
“I smoke. It’s expensive. It’s also the best option. You see, I am always, always exhausted. It’s a stimulant. When I am too tired to walk one more step, I can smoke and go for another hour. When I am enraged and beaten down and incapable of accomplishing one more thing, I can smoke and I feel a little better, just for a minute. It is the only relaxation I am allowed. It is not a good decision, but it is the only one that I have access to. It is the only thing I have found that keeps me from collapsing or exploding.

I make a lot of poor financial decisions. None of them matter, in the long term. I will never not be poor, so what does it matter if I don’t pay a thing and a half this week instead of just one thing? It’s not like the sacrifice will result in improved circumstances; the thing holding me back isn’t that I blow five bucks at Wendy’s. It’s that now that I have proven that I am a Poor Person that is all that I am or ever will be. It is not worth it to me to live a bleak life devoid of small pleasures so that one day I can make a single large purchase. I will never have large pleasures to hold on to. There’s a certain pull to live what bits of life you can while there’s money in your pocket, because no matter how responsible you are you will be broke in three days anyway. When you never have enough money it ceases to have meaning. I imagine having a lot of it is the same thing.”

“Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.”…George Orwell, “1984″

I heard a radio report yesterday misportray the drop in the NC unemployment rate to 8 percent as good news.

I was pleased to read that the Greensboro News Record provided an accurate report of the dismal jobs situation in NC.

From the News Record November 22, 2013.

“Unemployment rate drops, but fewer N.C. residents are working than a year ago”

“North Carolina’s unemployment rate fell to an even 8 percent in October, which makes for a positive headline.

But there’s a gloomier underside.
Total employment, according to “smoothed seasonally adjusted” numbers, was down from a year earlier, when the unemployment rate was 9.4 percent.

How could that be? Our labor force keeps shrinking. It’s smaller by 77,429, the N.C. Department of Commerce reports.”

“Addendum: “The state’s labor force participation rate — a key measure of labor utilization — fell steadily over that time to the lowest monthly figure recorded at any point since 1976,” John Quinterno says.”

The labor force participation rate has fallen 2 percent this year!

The unemployment rate has dropped 1.5 percent.

You do the math.

House Select Committee on Assassinations in the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy, L Richardson Preyer, Conspiracy, 2 gunmen, Organized crime and anti Castro Cuban groups not ruled out

House Select Committee on Assassinations in the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy, L Richardson Preyer, Conspiracy, 2 gunmen, Organized crime and anti Castro Cuban groups not ruled out

“It is my personal view that there were two lone nuts who assassinated the president—Oswald and this other fellow,”…Congressman L. Richardson Preyer, November 1980

“Just because something is a Conspiracy Theory does not mean it’s not true”

I played Little League Baseball with the son of L. Richardson Preyer.

He was a judge at the time. Both he and his wife were very nice and down to earth people.

L. Richardson Preyer was the grandson of Lunsford Richardson, inventor of Vicks VapoRub.

Mr. Preyer becamce a US congressman in 1968 and was a member of the House Select Committee on Assassinations.

He believed, as I do, that there were 2 gunmen and a conspiracy in the assassination of President Kennedy.

From the Star News November 24, 1980.

“Preyer, a Democrat from Greensboro, said he still considers the Kennedy assassination on Nov. 22, 1963, to be the nations biggest unsolved murder case.

“I think the Justice Department should go forward with this matter until we get to the point where we can say there is nothing else to do and that we know all we will ever know,” Preyer said in a recent interview. “I don’t think we are at that point yet.”

Preyer was chairman of the special House subcommittee which in 1977-78 conducted an extensive re-investigation of the Kennedy assassination. The committee concluded that a second gunman was involved in the killing, reversing the conclusion of the Warren Commission that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone.

Preyer said he is sticking by the subcommittee’s conclusion.

“It is my personal view that there were two lone nuts who assassinated the president—Oswald and this other fellow,” he said.”

“I. Findings of the Select Committee on Assassinations in the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Tex., November 22, 1963

1. Lee Harvey Oswald fired three shots at President John F. Kennedy. The second and third shots he fired struck the President. The third shot he fired killed the President.

a. President Kennedy was struck by two rifle shots fired from behind him.

b. The shots that struck President Kennedy from behind him were fired from the sixth floor window of the southeast corner of the Texas School Book Depository building.

c. Lee Harvey Oswald owned the rifle that was used to fire the shots from the sixth floor window of the southeast comer of the Texas School Book Depository building.

d. Lee Harvey Oswald, shortly before the assassination, had access to and was present on the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository building.

e. Lee Harvey Oswald’s other actions tend to support the conclusion that he assassinated President Kennedy.

2. Scientific acoustical evidence establishes a high probability that two gunmen fired at President John F. Kennedy. Other scientific evidence does not preclude the possibility of two gunmen firing at the President. Scientific evidence negates some specific conspiracy allegations.

3. The committee believes, on the basis of the evidence available to it, that President John F. Kennedy was probably assassinated as a result of a conspiracy. The committee is unable to identify the other gunman or the extent of the conspiracy.”

“c. The committee believes, on the basis of the evidence available to it, that anti-Castro Cuban groups, as groups, were not involved in the assassination of President Kennedy, but that the available evidence does not preclude the possibility that individual members may have been involved.

d.
