Assange “suffering from severe depression”, High risk of suicide “if extradition appears imminent.”, Witness Prof. Michael Kopelman September 22, 2020

Assange “suffering from severe depression”, High risk of suicide “if extradition appears imminent.”, Witness Prof. Michael Kopelman September 22, 2020

“Replying to this last point, the prosecution pointed out that a Grand Jury against Assange had been established by Obama and there was no indication the investigation had been closed. Feldstein agreed, the “Obama administration was very eager to file charges against Assange and they conducted a very aggressive investigation.” All of which speaks for the point that Assange is being sought for political reasons—motivations which are common to the whole American ruling class. It was current Democratic Party presidential candidate Joe Biden who branded the WikiLeaks publisher and journalist a “high-tech terrorist.””…Laura Tiernan and Thomas Scripps, Sept 9, 2020

“Why John Brennan, Peter Strzok and DOJ Needed Julian Assange Arrested”…The Conservative Treehouse November 3, 2019

From Consortium News September 22, 2020.

“6:35 am EDT: Court is in session.  Prof. Michael Kopelman has been sworn in, standing in the actual wooden stand of the court, as the defense’s first witness on Tuesday.  Kopelman is a professor of neuropsychology at King’s College, London. He testifies that Assange is suffering from severe depression with loss sleep, appetite and weight loss. He also found a high risk of suicide “if extradition appears imminent.”  Kopelman said Assange has had a history of clinical depression and said his risk of suicide would increase if extradition was imminent.

Consortium News is limiting the detail of testimony about Assange’s mental health conditions after an appeal from Kopelman and defense attorney Edward Fitzgerald to the media to do so.

Of all the efforts of the defense to prevent Assange’s extradition, this testimony might have the greatest effect on the court. Ruling against extradition on medical grounds would it seems bypass the political controversies in this case.

Cross

On cross examination Lewis is trying to question Kopleman’s credentials, saying he was not a forsenic psychiatrist, who work in prisons. Kopelman retorted that he had spent time in many prisons and that even Lewis had once urgently called upon him for his expert testimony in an extradition case. That brought laughter in the courtroom, even from Judge Baraitser.”

“That is what has brought you here. You are here because you have failed in humility, in self-discipline. You would not make the act of submission which is the price of sanity. You preferred to be a lunatic, a minority of one. Only the disciplined mind can see reality, Winston. You believe that reality is something objective, external, existing in its own right. You also believe that the nature of reality is self-evident. When you delude yourself into thinking that you see something, you assume that everyone else sees the same thing as you. But I tell you, Winston, that reality is not external. Reality exists in the human mind, and nowhere else. Not in the individual mind, which can make mistakes, and in any case soon perishes: only in the mind of the Party, which is collective and immortal. Whatever the Party holds to be the truth, is truth. It is impossible to see reality except by looking through the eyes of the Party. That is the fact that you have got to relearn, Winston. It needs an act of self-destruction, an effort of the will. You must humble yourself before you can become sane.”…George Orwell, 1984

JK Rowling attacked books burned for Speaking out on Sex and Gender Issues, Modern day Nazi thugs and Thought Police burn books, Rowling Thought Criminal

“With those children [Winston] thought, that wretched woman must lead a life of terror. Another year, two years, and they would be watching her night and day for symptoms of unorthodoxy. Nearly all children nowadays were horrible. What was worst of all was that by means of such organizations as the Spies they were systematically turned into ungovernable little savages, and yet this produced in them no tendency whatever to rebel against the discipline of the Party.”…George Orwell, “1984”

“When an opponent declares, “I will not come over to your side,” I calmly say, “Your child belongs to us already… What are you? You will pass on. Your descendants, however, now stand in the new camp. In a short time they will know nothing else but this new community.”...Adolf Hitler

“”You’re a traitor!” yelled the boy. “You’re a thought criminal!””...George Orwell, “1984”

More evidence we are reliving history, Nazi Germany, and living “1984.”

From Jonathan Turley September 20, 2020.

“Rowling’s Books Burned or Banned Around the World Over Her Personal Views Of Gender”

“A TikTok series show people around the world burning copies of Rowlings’ books. In one video of a burning pile of books by TikTok user @elmcdo, a voice is heard saying

“You have to stop using ‘death of the author’ as an excuse to have your cake and eat it too. While the reader’s perspective is an important part of interpretation and meaning, it is impossible to completely divorce a work from its creator. The positive impact that J.K. Rowling’s work had on millions of readers does not negate how her hateful lobbying has affected the trans community.”

That sums up the logic of every book burner in history.  You cannot read a book because of the views or religion or identity of the author.  It is better to burn the book to protect society.

Then there is Rabble Books and Games in Maylands, Perth. The owner owner Nat Latter proudly declared on Facebook that he had removed all fo the Harry Potter books from bookshelves to guarantee “a safer space for our community.” So you can buy a Rowlings book by having it retrieved from behind the back room like pornography.  It is a form of censoring by making it more difficult to buy some books rather than others because you disfavor authors with opposing views. Latter seems to relish the role of a book censoring book seller:

“Whilst stocking a book isn’t an endorsement (good grief, that would be a minefield), and we will always take orders for books that aren’t in stock, there are more worthy books to put on the shelf, books that don’t harm communities and won’t make us sad to unpack them.”

Does Latter also hide works with opposing views on gender from the Bible to the Koran to classic novels?”

From J.K. Rowling.

“For people who don’t know: last December I tweeted my support for Maya Forstater, a tax specialist who’d lost her job for what were deemed ‘transphobic’ tweets. She took her case to an employment tribunal, asking the judge to rule on whether a philosophical belief that sex is determined by biology is protected in law. Judge Tayler ruled that it wasn’t.

My interest in trans issues pre-dated Maya’s case by almost two years, during which I followed the debate around the concept of gender identity closely. I’ve met trans people, and read sundry books, blogs and articles by trans people, gender specialists, intersex people, psychologists, safeguarding experts, social workers and doctors, and followed the discourse online and in traditional media. On one level, my interest in this issue has been professional, because I’m writing a crime series, set in the present day, and my fictional female detective is of an age to be interested in, and affected by, these issues herself, but on another, it’s intensely personal, as I’m about to explain.

All the time I’ve been researching and learning, accusations and threats from trans activists have been bubbling in my Twitter timeline. This was initially triggered by a ‘like’. When I started taking an interest in gender identity and transgender matters, I began screenshotting comments that interested me, as a way of reminding myself what I might want to research later. On one occasion, I absent-mindedly ‘liked’ instead of screenshotting. That single ‘like’ was deemed evidence of wrongthink, and a persistent low level of harassment began.

Months later, I compounded my accidental ‘like’ crime by following Magdalen Berns on Twitter. Magdalen was an immensely brave young feminist and lesbian who was dying of an aggressive brain tumour. I followed her because I wanted to contact her directly, which I succeeded in doing. However, as Magdalen was a great believer in the importance of biological sex, and didn’t believe lesbians should be called bigots for not dating trans women with penises, dots were joined in the heads of twitter trans activists, and the level of social media abuse increased.

I mention all this only to explain that I knew perfectly well what was going to happen when I supported Maya. I must have been on my fourth or fifth cancellation by then. I expected the threats of violence, to be told I was literally killing trans people with my hate, to be called cunt and bitch and, of course, for my books to be burned, although one particularly abusive man told me he’d composted them.”

“So why am I doing this? Why speak up? Why not quietly do my research and keep my head down?

Well, I’ve got five reasons for being worried about the new trans activism, and deciding I need to speak up.

Firstly, I have a charitable trust that focuses on alleviating social deprivation in Scotland, with a particular emphasis on women and children. Among other things, my trust supports projects for female prisoners and for survivors of domestic and sexual abuse. I also fund medical research into MS, a disease that behaves very differently in men and women. It’s been clear to me for a while that the new trans activism is having (or is likely to have, if all its demands are met) a significant impact on many of the causes I support, because it’s pushing to erode the legal definition of sex and replace it with gender.

The second reason is that I’m an ex-teacher and the founder of a children’s charity, which gives me an interest in both education and safeguarding. Like many others, I have deep concerns about the effect the trans rights movement is having on both.

The third is that, as a much-banned author, I’m interested in freedom of speech and have publicly defended it, even unto Donald Trump.

The fourth is where things start to get truly personal. I’m concerned about the huge explosion in young women wishing to transition and also about the increasing numbers who seem to be detransitioning (returning to their original sex), because they regret taking steps that have, in some cases, altered their bodies irrevocably, and taken away their fertility. Some say they decided to transition after realising they were same-sex attracted, and that transitioning was partly driven by homophobia, either in society or in their families.

Most people probably aren’t aware – I certainly wasn’t, until I started researching this issue properly – that ten years ago, the majority of people wanting to transition to the opposite sex were male. That ratio has now reversed. The UK has experienced a 4400% increase in girls being referred for transitioning treatment. Autistic girls are hugely overrepresented in their numbers.

The same phenomenon has been seen in the US. In 2018,  American physician and researcher Lisa Littman set out to explore it. In an interview, she said:

‘Parents online were describing a very unusual pattern of transgender-identification where multiple friends and even entire friend groups became transgender-identified at the same time. I would have been remiss had I not considered social contagion and peer influences as potential factors.’”

MSNBC “We are a cancer “, Producer Ariana Pekary resigns, “This cancer risks human lives, even in the middle of a pandemic”, “Important facts or studies get buried”

“We are a cancer and there is no cure”
“This cancer risks human lives, even in the middle of a pandemic.”
“This cancer risks our democracy”...Ariana Pekary , former MSNBC producer

“If I had my choice I would kill every reporter in the world but I am sure we would be getting reports from hell before breakfast.”... William Tecumseh Sherman

“We are being lied to on a scale unimaginable by George Orwell.”…Citizen Wells

Those of us who care and are paying attention have known for years that MSNBC and the rest of the fake news media care more about their leftist Democrat agenda than the well being of this country and the humans being affected.

The media and Democrat mantra: “The end justifies the means.”

From Fox News August 3, 2020.

“MSNBC producer resigns from network with scathing letter: They block ‘diversity of thought’ and ‘amplify fringe voices’
Ariana Pekary said important facts and studies about the coronavirus would ‘get buried’

A former MSNBC producer wrote a scathing open letter explaining why she recently left the cable news network.

“July 24th was my last day at MSNBC. I don’t know what I’m going to do next exactly but I simply couldn’t stay there anymore,” Ariana Pekary wrote on her personal website. “My colleagues are very smart people with good intentions. The problem is the job itself. It forces skilled journalists to make bad decisions on a daily basis.””

“She then quoted someone she described a “successful and insightful TV veteran” who said: “We are a cancer and there is no cure… But if you could find a cure, it would change the world.”

Pekary, who described herself as an “integral member” of the MSNBC primetime show “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell,” used the “cancer” analogy to describe MSNBC’s coverage of the coronavirus outbreak and the racial unrest in recent months, writing: “The model blocks diversity of thought and content because the networks have incentive to amplify fringe voices and events, at the expense of others… all because it pumps up the ratings.”

“This cancer risks human lives, even in the middle of a pandemic. The primary focus quickly became what Donald Trump was doing (poorly) to address the crisis, rather than the science itself. As new details have become available about antibodies, a vaccine, or how COVID actually spreads, producers still want to focus on the politics. Important facts or studies get buried,” Pekary explained.  “This cancer risks our democracy, even in the middle of a presidential election. Any discussion about the election usually focuses on Donald Trump, not Joe Biden, a repeat offense from 2016 (Trump smothers out all other coverage). Also important is to ensure citizens can vote by mail this year, but I’ve watched that topic get ignored or ‘killed’ numerous times.””

Julian Assange facts, John Pilger: “The lies about Assange must stop now”, “It’s a matter of press freedom and the public’s right to know.”

Julian Assange facts, John Pilger: “The lies about Assange must stop now”, “It’s a matter of press freedom and the public’s right to know.”

“Why John Brennan, Peter Strzok and DOJ Needed Julian Assange Arrested”…The Conservative Treehouse November 3, 2019

“A Federal court ruled that there was no Russian connection with Julian Assange and that he had constitutional rights to do as he did as a journalist and as a publisher and that has been completely ignored.” “he’s being treated in the way that political prisoners are treated all over the world.”…John Pilger

“Journalism is printing what someone else does not want printed: everything else is public relations.”…George Orwell

From John Pilger November 24, 2019.

“THE LIES ABOUT ASSANGE MUST STOP NOW

Newspapers and other media in the United States, Britain and Australia have recently declared a passion for freedom of speech, especially their right to publish freely. They are worried by the “Assange effect”.

It is as if the struggle of truth-tellers like Julian Assange and Chelsea Manning is now a warning to them: that the thugs who dragged Assange out of the Ecuadorean embassy in April may one day come for them.

A common refrain was echoed by the Guardian last week. The extradition of Assange, said the paper, “is not a question of how wise Mr. Assange is, still less how likable. It’s not about his character, nor his judgement. It’s a matter of press freedom and the public’s right to know.” ”

“A few days ago, the Sydney Morning Herald’s man in London, Nick Miller, wrote a lazy, specious piece headlined, “Assange has not been vindicated, he has merely outwaited justice.”  He was referring to Sweden’s abandonment of the so-called Assange investigation.

Miller’s report is not untypical for its omissions and distortions while masquerading as a tribune of women’s rights. There is no original work, no real inquiry: just smear.

There is nothing on the documented behaviour of a clutch of Swedish zealots who hi jacked the “allegations” of sexual misconduct against Assange and made a mockery of Swedish law and that society’s vaunted decency.

He makes no mention that in 2013, the Swedish prosecutor tried to abandon the case and emailed the Crown Prosecution Service in London to say it would no longer pursue a European Arrest Warrant, to which she received the reply: “Don’t you dare!!!” (Thanks to Stefania Maurizi of La Repubblica)

Other emails show the CPS discouraging the Swedes from coming to London to interview Assange – which was common practice – thus blocking progress that might have set him free in 2011.

There was never an indictment. There were never charges. There was never a serious attempt to put “allegations” to Assange and question him – behaviour that the Swedish Court of Appeal ruled to be negligent and the General Secretary of the Swedish Bar Association has since condemned.

Both the women involved said there was no rape.  Critical written evidence of their text messages was wilfully withheld from Assange’s lawyers, clearly because it undermined the “allegations”.

One of the women was so shocked that Assange was arrested, she accused the police of railroading her and changing her witness statement. The chief prosecutor, Eva Finne, dismissed the “suspicion of any crime.”

The Sydney Morning Herald man omits how an ambitious and compromised politician, Claes Borgstrom, emerged from behind the liberal facade of Swedish politics and effectively seized and revived the case.

Borgstrom enlisted a former political collaborator, Marianne Ny, as the new prosecutor. Ny refused to guarantee that Assange would not be sent on to the United States if he was extradited to Sweden, even though, as The Independent reported, “informal discussions have already taken place between the US and Swedish officials over the possibility of the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange being delivered into American custody, according to diplomatic sources.” This was an open secret in Stockholm. That libertarian Sweden had a dark, documented past of rendering people into the hands of the CIA was not news.

The silence was broken in 2016 when the United Nations Working Party on Arbitrary Detention, a body that decides whether governments are meeting their human rights obligations, ruled that Julian Assange was unlawfully detained by Britain and called on the British government to set him free.

Both the governments of Britain and Sweden had taken part in the UN’s investigation, and agreed to abide by its ruling, which carried the weight of international law. The British foreign secretary, Philip Hammond, stood up in Parliament and abused the UN panel.

The Swedish case was a fraud from the moment the police secretly and illegally contacted a Stockholm tabloid and ignited the hysteria that was to consume Assange. WikiLeaks’ revelations of America’s war crimes had shamed the hand-maidens of power and its vested interests, who called themselves journalists; and for this, the unclubbable Assange would never be forgiven.”

Bartle Bull, lifelong liberal Democrat, Civil Rights Attorney, called Obama a “hustler.”

From The Examiner on Bartle Bull.

“Famous civil rights attorney, Bartle Bull, knows more than a little about voter rights. He was New York campaign manager for Robert Kennedy in 1968 and for Jimmy Carter in 1978. He is a liberal and life long Democrat and former Director of both New York Magazine and The Village Voice.

Bartle Bull was born in 1940 and graduated Harvard College in 1963, attended Oxford 1963-1964, and graduated Harvard Law School in 1967. He was admitted to practice in New York in 1967. In the 1960s Bull worked for the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law seeking to enforce the Voting Rights Act of 1965 in Mississippi protecting both black voters and black political candidates from voter intimidation. Bartle Bull is an expert on voter rights. Bartle Bull is a liberal. And Bartle Bull is taking action against the Eric Holder Department of Justice and the Obama Administration for its dismissal of an action against the New Black Panthers for voter intimidation in November 2008 in Philadelphia.”

But then there is the uncomfortable reality of Bull Bartle, no conservative, and a renowned civil rights lawyer and decades long promoter of a left leaning agenda. Bartle is a fine example of old time liberalism, when it stood for truth, justice, and the American way, not today’s agenda of utter destruction of everything good about America. He comes from an era when civil rights advocacy meant something. Bull Bartle was present at the polling station in Philadelphia on that day in November 2008 and he is a witness to what happened. He was interviewed by Megyn Kelly as well and his testimony is critical to understanding this scandal.”

More on Obama the hustler from Atlas Shrugs March 31, 2010.

“The Biggest Hustle in Human History”

“Is the President’s resume accurate when it comes to his career and qualifications? I can corroborate that Obama’s “teaching career” at Chicago was, to put it kindly, a sham.

I spent some time with the highest tenured faculty member at Chicago Law a few months back, and he did not have many nice things to say about “Barry.” Obama applied for a position as an adjunct and wasn’t even considered. A few weeks later the law school got a phone call from the Board of Trustees telling them to find him an office, put him on the payroll, and give him a class to teach. The Board told him he didn’t have to be a member of the faculty, but they needed to give him a temporary position. He was never a professor and was hardly an adjunct.

The other professors hated him because he was lazy, unqualified, never attended any of the faculty meetings, and it was clear that the position was nothing more than a political stepping stool. According to my professor friend, he had the lowest intellectual capacity in the building. He also doubted whether he was legitimately an editor on the Harvard Law Review, because if he was, he would be the first and only editor of an Ivy League law review to never be published while in school (publication is or was a requirement).

Consider this: 1. President Barack Obama, former editor of the Harvard Law Review, is no longer a “lawyer”. He surrendered his license back in 2008 possibly to escape charges that he “fibbed” on his bar application. …”

“Curiously, since I relayed a report of Obama’s “teaching career” at Chicago (he was apparently never a law professor, as some have claimed), the Illinois Bar has decided to partially redact what little public information it had available on its website related to the President’s legal status.”

“Julian Assange is a Thought Criminal and like the main character, Winston in “1984”, is being broken down psychologically.”…Citizen Wells

From RT.

“‘I can’t think properly’: Assange disoriented as court rejects delay for extradition proceedings

With his supporters rallying outside the court building, Julian Assange showed signs of exhaustion and psychological torment as his lawyer made a bid to delay US extradition proceedings – but the London court ruled against him.

Cleanly shaven and dressed in a navy suit, the WikiLeaks co-founder appeared before Westminster Magistrates Court on Monday to seek the postponement of an extradition hearing scheduled for February – but the impact of six months behind bars at London’s maximum security Belmarsh Prison have clearly taken a toll.

A weary Assange defiantly raised his fist to supporters in the public gallery, but the imprisoned Australian whistleblower understandably did not appear to be in good spirits. Reports from inside the court suggest that Assange, who shot to international prominence for revealing US war crimes, even struggled to say his own name and date of birth. He reportedly held back tears as he told the court that he couldn’t “think properly.””

“UN special rapporteur on torture Nils Melzer warned in July that Assange’s health was deteriorating in prison after visiting him with two medical experts to assess the extent of ill-treatment he has been facing.

Melzer said Assange showed all the symptoms typical “prolonged and sustained exposure to severe psychological stress, anxiety and related mental and emotional suffering” and that his cognitive and sensory capacity have been “significantly impaired.” Fellow Australian journalist John Pilger also spoke of Assange’s unabated “psychological torture” after a visit to Belmarsh in August, though their warnings have typically fallen on deaf ears among the UK media and officialdom.”

“We are being lied to on a scale unimaginable by George Orwell.”…Citizen Wells

This is barely being covered.

It is my duty to spread the word.

From WilliamBowles, a WSWS interview and a “Candles 4 Assange” video.

“JULIAN HAS REACHED A POINT WHERE HE MAY DIE”—ASSANGE’S FATHER JOHN SHIPTON SPEAKS WITH THE WSWS

“On Thursday the WSWS met John Shipton, Julian Assange’s father, in Berlin to talk about the condition of his son’s jailing in the maximum security Belmarsh Prison in London. The day before Shipton had given a press conference and addressed the weekly “Candles 4 Assange” rally in Berlin, to inform the public about his son’s illegal imprisonment and demand his freedom.”

“Shipton, who had visited his son just before traveling to Berlin, described the gruesome situation he is facing in Belmarsh.

“Julian was sentenced to 50 weeks in jail for minor infringements in a maximum-security prison in solitary confinement for 22 to 23 hours a day. There is a limitation of visitations which is two social visits for two hours. So those two hours, you can imagine, are very, very precious things. The Belmarsh prison is quite a way out and the requirements of registration are complex. That is his day to day situation.”

Shipton explained that his son has basically no access to any information. “There are restrictions on access to the library, access to the gym and access to computers. So, in order to prepare for his case, he has no access to the library, no access to computers and no access to the internet. He has no access to information at all.”

Due to his deteriorating health—Shipton said his son has lost 15 kilos since his imprisonment in Belmarsh—Assange has been transferred to the hospital ward of the prison.

“There he is still in isolation 23 hours a day but now he can have three visits a week. This is some improvement but still it’s a Grade A maximum-security jail. And Julian is a Grade B prisoner. His health has been declining and has reached a point where he may die. This a man who has done nothing. Julian is a journalist like you. He has made an immense contribution to world journalism. WikiLeaks has made immense contributions, unbeatable contributions.””

“Shipton denounced the fact that his son is being held in a maximum prison for supposedly having breached the Bail Act. “Julian cannot be charged for bail skipping because he is an asylee and every asylee falls under conventions which the UK has signed. Julian is a journalist.”

He added that “every journalist has an interest that the truth of Julian’s situation being put before their editors every day. Newspapers should have a great interest in Assange because also their freedom to publish and to investigate will be constrained and is being constrained. I understand that the World Socialist Web Site is being reduced by over 40 percent in its traffic by Google and search engines. This is repression of free speech. It is up to us and up to newspapers and news organisations to ensure that Julian is free. It is about the freedom to publish.””

John Shipton, Julian Assange’s father was interviewed on Melbourne Radio Station 3CR, “A Friday Rave” on August 16, 2019.

The interview was available for a week on their website and was reported by some other sites.

Keeping the Julian Assange story alive and reporting the truth is important at Citizen Wells so an email exchange took place with the good folks at 3CR and they agreed to put the interview back up for a week.

The full interview can be heard for a limited time here:

Citizen Wells has put the John Shipton interview portion on Youtube:

Some of the comments from John Shipton:

“Julian is emaciated and not in tip top order or health,”
“He is suffering anxiety. He is still in fighting spirits, but his well being is declining rapidly.”
“Do not forget Julian Assange or you will lose him. I saw him in Belmarsh prison and his health has deteriorated”
“Can you believe that Julian, who is a gentle, intellectual sort of fellow gets locked up in a maximum security prison?”
“in a cell 20 hours a day and has two social visits a month. Lawyers are allowed there other times. These social visits can be arbitrarily cancelled or reduced in time.”
“To travel all the way from Australia to see Julian and to get only an hour, it seems cruel to me”
“I’m told that often that is done with a well known prisoner to assert authority over him and over his visitors.”
“Julian in my feeling depends greatly upon the support of Australians, and their support has been unflagging over the years. The government, of course, has taken no notice, and it seems to me, only takes notice of the United States and the United Kingdom, and will willingly sacrifice Julian’s well being to the demands of the US and the UK.”

John Pilger on Julian Assange condition and treatment in Belmarsh Prison, Danger that “we will lose Julian”, Treated like political prisoner

Mueller, as a matter of determined policy, omitted key steps which any honest investigator would undertake. He did not commission any forensic examination of the DNC servers. He did not interview Bill Binney. He did not interview Julian Assange. His failure to do any of those obvious things renders his report worthless.”…Craig Murray

“Fox News news analyst Ellen Ratner relayed information from Wikileaks founder Julian Assange to Texas businessman Ed Butowsky regarding Seth Rich’s role in transferring emails to Wikileaks, according to an amended lawsuit that I filed this morning on behalf of Mr. Butowsky.”…Attorney Ty Clevenger

“Who murdered Seth Rich and why?”…Citizen Wells

From a RT interview August 21, 2019.

“Can I just say very quickly first, we have been talking about censorship by omission, on a huge scale. A Federal court ruled that there was no Russian connection with Julian Assange and that he had constitutional rights to do as he did as a journalist and as a publisher and that has been completely ignored.

Julian’s own condition is…how do I put it…it’s very dangerous. When I last saw him about 10 days ago, I was shocked because he had lost more weight, he was isolated. They seem to be imposing a regime that must be punitive, on him of isolation. He’s in what they call the health care wing, hospital wing of Belmarsh prison. But he’s in a single cell. He told me “I see people walking by and I’d like to talk to them but I can’t”. Category A prisoners, murderers and others who have committed serious crimes are allowed to fraternize. Julian is not allowed to fraternize. He’s not even allowed to telephone his American lawyers and he’s facing extradition to the United States. He had to wait two and half months to see an optician and then when he got his glasses one of the lenses didn’t work. He’s being denied the right to prepare his own defense, he’s denied access to documents, access to the library, a laptop. His lawyer, uh his solicitor Gareth Peirce wrote to the governor of Belmarsh on the 4th of June about this and received no reply. What’s going on?

If there is no basic, we understand if there is no basic justice in the treatment of somebody like this who is in prison because he infringed bail. That is just about the merest…it’s not a crime actually… it is about the merest thing that the law can nail you for, and that is infringing your bail. He is there also of course because he is facing US extradition but primarily he’s there for this minor offense and he’s being treated in the way that political prisoners are treated all over the world. That’s a moniker that won’t be appreciated but it applies.

Q. Have his previous partners The Guardian Newspaper in London and New York Times helped to seal his fate?

Yes they have helped to seal his fate. Mind you they’re worried because in this Federal Court ruling it was made clear by the Judge in this very considered judgement, that newspapers like the New York Times,… the New York Times and The Guardian published the war logs in 2010, the war logs from Iraq, the war logs from Afghanistan that WikiLeaks had been the conduit for, had had passed to them …they published them first, before Wikileaks. In law, and that’s what  he was saying, they are as liable. But they are also, as Julian is, and this is the point he was making, are protected by the US Constitution. Now the US Constitution is being torn up by the Trump administration. That’s why Julian basically is in the trouble he is. All these charges that he is meant to be facing in the United States are concocted, they’re ridiculous, they don’t apply. They’re charges against a journalist and a publisher. But they would apply equally against the Editor in Chief of the The Guardian, the Editor of the New York Times, and the Editor of El Pais, the Editor of Der Spiegel, the Editor of the Sydney Morning Herald. They know this and they’re worried.

But they come from such… they’re in such cahoots, they collude so deeply with the Establishment of their countries …and that now means the Intelligence agencies, they have the power now in Western societies… they collude so deeply with them that they dare not speak up.

But they I suggest that if this whole grotesque charade against Julian Assange goes on, they should speak up pretty quickly.”
