Ukraine and Russia first round of talks inconclusive, March 1, 2022, Focused on stopping the fighting, Delegations next go back to their capitals for further discussion, Ukraine demands immediate ceasefire and withdrawal of all Russian forces

From Kyiv Independent.

“First round of Ukraine-Russia negotiations inconclusive as casualties pile up

After five brutal days of fighting, the first round of talks between Ukraine and Russia ended inconclusively.

Mykhailo Podoliak, advisor to the head of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s administration, said that a number of core themes had been identified, and that the delegations would go back to their capitals for further discussion. The discussion mainly focused on stopping the fighting.

Negotiations were held on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border near the Prypyat River.

Podoliak said that the two sides would hold a second round of talks at the earliest possible opportunity.

“At (these talks), the themes (discussed today) will be concretely developed,” he said.

Podolyak then tweeted that while it did not impose any ultimatums, the Russian side “unfortunately still has a non-objective understanding of the destruction it has caused.”

According to the Ukrainian government, the war has cost 352 Ukrainian lives and approximately 5,300 Russian ones. Russia only acknowledged taking casualties four days into the war, and has thus far refused to give any numbers.

The Ukrainian side was represented by Podoliak, Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, ruling party leader David Arakhamia, Deputy Foreign Minister Mykola Tochytskyi, diplomat Andriy Kostin, and lawmaker Rustem Umerov.

Russia was represented by Presidential Advisor Vladimir Medinsky, Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko, lawmaker Leonid Slutsky, and Russian ambassador to Belarus Boris Gryzlov.

Ukraine went into talks demanding an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of all Russian forces from Ukraine.

Podolyak said on Feb. 27 that Russia was seeking to force Ukraine into an “unacceptable compromise” with its all-out assault on Ukraine.

Zelensky said previously that he did not believe the negotiations would yield a positive outcome, but that talks would go ahead so that “no citizen of Ukraine doubts that I, as president, tried to stop the war when there was still a chance, however small.”

Despite an overwhelming manpower and equipment advantage, Russia’s five-day assault has been marked by tactical failures. Multiple videos have shown Russian tanks and APCs abandoned by roadsides after they ran out of fuel, and many attacks have been beaten back by Ukrainian forces.”

  1. According to the Ukrainian government, the war has cost 352 Ukrainian lives and approximately 5,300 Russian ones. Russia only acknowledged taking casualties four days into the war, and has thus far refused to give any numbers.

  2. AND,
………soon America will be forced to declare WAR UPON Russia. Just as was the case with Hitler, and Tojo. It was the Allies who finally restored world peace. Unfortunately ANOTHER LUNATIC LEADER has raised his ugly head, and is murdering his neighbors as fast as he can. HOW LONG WILL THE WEST STAND BY AND DO NOTHING. Time for the Allies to come together once again, and put an end to the insane destruction, and slaughter of innocent people which is going on in Ukraine.

  3. IF……..
……….the Allies were to amass a WW2 size Army Russia would probably fall quickly……..but NOW we have NUCLEAR WEAPONS. It is reasonable to believe that the CRAZED BOLSHEVIC would indeed use them. So what is left? Covert action! Any such action would hopefully come from one or more of his own generals who want PEACE.

  4. BUT,
……..covert action would require the neutralization of ALL the UPPER ECHELON leaders including the top honcho SIMULTANEOUSLY, or in quick succession.

  5. AND,
………the USSR fell apart for a reason………I seriously doubt if the Russian people want it back either. If their present leaders were sacked it would bring an end to the Russian communist party.

    FOOD FOR THOUGHT…….
……….could Zelensky end up being the replacement for Putin?

  7. oldsailor88

    AND,
……….you have to deeply admire a people who VOLUNTARILY pick up a rifle to defend their homeland. THIS IS THE BOTTOM LINE FOR SUCH FOLKS. Ukraine is their heart and soul. Does America have this sort of loyalty?

  8. oldsailor88

    AND,
………the NEW UKRAINE ARMY is getting their training HANDS ON…….and those who survive will be excellent soldiers.

  9. oldsailor88

    AND NOW,
………..the mercenary soldiers are arriving. Bring on the RPGs, Javelins, and thousands of Stingers……..along with lots of AK 47s. and cold weather gear. Hopefully somebody can get airborne and shoot the crap out of the stalled BUBBA convoy. They could bomb the convoy with thousands of MOLOTOV COCKTAILS= VOILA ….. LOTS OF BURNING JUNK TRUCKS, AND APCs.

  10. WHEN……
……..you look at what is going on in Ukraine it is heart breaking. I personally feel a huge anger towards the BASTARD who is responsible. He will one day stand before God and face judgement. I PRAY that he BURNS IN HELL FOREVER. With any luck at all that day might arrive SOONER, rather than later, and the BASTARD will be dispatched by one of his TRUSTED GENERALS who is sickened by the behavior of his boss.

    AND NOW,
………….lots of body bags are returning to Putin’s doorstep……..the Russian mothers and fathers will be looking at PUTIN……….bye and bye one of his Generals will probably put a hole between his eyes, or he will simply disappear forever.

  12. oldsailor88

    AND,
………..hopefully Mr. Putin will disappear FOREVER very soon.

    AND,
…………Mr.Putin is like Leon Trotsky, who was a close friend of Lenin.
