Disclose Act, June 24, 2010, Nancy Pelosi will schedule a vote, Pro gun organizations, Harry Reid, NRA exempt

Disclose Act, June 24, 2010, Nancy Pelosi will schedule a vote

I just received this from Dudley Brown of the National Association for Gun Rights.

“Reports are that Nancy Pelosi will schedule a vote tomorrow (Thursday, June 24) on the DISCLOSE Act, so you must act now to protect your gun rights.

Disclose would silence almost every pro-gun organization in America… Except the NRA.  In fact, the DISCLOSE Act was dead in the water until the NRA cut a deal to exempt itself (and a few big liberal groups like AARP and probably MoveOn.org) last week.

Please contact your Congressman right away and again Thursday at (202) 224-3121 or by email.

The goal of this draconian legislation is to make pro-freedom groups – like the National Association for Gun Rights – shut their mouths.   And without politicians who are held accountable, there’s almost no way to defend our gun rights.

As of early last week, this bill had a dicey future, but Pelosi, Reid and Schumer agreed to exempt the NRA (who is no longer opposing this bill because of their special deal).  That backroom deal made the bill much more likely to pass (which is, of course, why Dem leadership exempted the NRA).

In fact, Capitol insiders say Harry Reid may be the driving force for this exemption. Reid is in a very tough re-election race in Nevada, but the NRA has all but endorsed him (see the latest NRA magazine, with many flattering pictures of Reid).  If he’s held accountable for his bad votes on the gun issue, he will almost certainly lose – which is why he’d like to silence all of the pro-gun groups except the one that’s supporting him.   But that’s another story for another time.

You must act today to defeat this fiasco.

Your actions have stalled this bill, and made Democrat leadership delay the vote (in an attempt to avoid the maelstrom of conservative activists who have loudly voiced their opposition to this bill).

But now they’re emboldened by the calm in the storm.

We can’t let that happen.

You must call your Member of Congress today.

Yes, the NRA’s sell-out on this issue is epic.  But it seems they’re going to defend their deal until the bitter end.   It should not be forgotten, but we must put the heat on members of Congress.

Call your member of Congress today at (202) 224-3121 and/or send him/her an e-mail and tell him/her to oppose the DISCLOSE Act, regardless of the deal.

Also tell them that you will consider a vote for disclose as a vote against your gun rights (it is – what will we use to defend our gun rights with, if we don’t have the first amendment right to free speech?).

Call or e-mail their offices today, and send this to everyone you know.

Thank you for your activism,

Dudley Brown

November 2010 elections, 5 months away, Blagojevich trial, US economy

The November elections are 5 months away. Obama has the lowest approval ratings in history. More and more people see the picture of the real Obama emerging. Unemployment is high, the US economy is faltering and security of the US in the world arena is in jeopardy.

It is apparent that no court, no legal remedy will challenge Obama’s eligibility in the near term. I believe that the Obama controlled US Justice Department will work to shorten the Blagojevich trial. As cocky and self confident as Blagojevich appears, he is no fool. The spectre of many years in prison is a reality if the trial plays out the way the Rezko trial did. Obama and the Democrats will do whatever is necessary to keep this circus from playing out too close to the elections.

Obama and the Orwellian and Gestapo like Obama administration are attempting to control the internet. They already control the mainstream media. I have a simple message for Obama, the FCC and any Orwellian component of government that attempts to thwart our efforts to present the truth.

Up

Yours

I and many others are committed to getting the truth out to the American public. I, if necessary, will tour the country and/or cooperate with other concerned Americans to keep the real news flowing.

We must change congress this November. It is our only chance to save this country.

Mainstream media Orwellian campaign, Fact versus fiction, Intelligent people still influenced by MSM, Citizen Wells open thread

Mainstream media Orwellian campaign, Fact versus fiction.

What I am about to say probably applies to many of you. I have a good, dear friend who still watches mainstream media such as CNBC. He was touting tax cuts for small businesses and average Americans. He stated that “I” and most people had a lower tax obligation last year. That did not mesh with the many conversations I have had with many people as well as what I remember hearing and reading. However, anytime I sense a conversation is getting mired down in a gray morass, I try to find a common denonimator, a self evident truth. I stated that if he was correct that it isn’t working. People who believe the Orwellian lies from the mainstream media believe that George Bush and the Republicans are at fault. I then commence to confuse then with facts such as the Democrats have controlled congress since 2006. I also state that I am not a fan or defender of either party. What is clear for me is that I do not understand how any “rational,”  intelligent, informed person can support or defend the modern day Democrat party.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR A JUNE 19TH EVENT – AN EVENING WITH GARY JOHNSON
Former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson is coming to Lincoln on June 19th for an event that includes a reception and talk. Those who are interested in elected officials who limit the size of government, protect freedom, and seek to maximize the potential for free enterprise should mark this event on their calendars.
The event has been organized by the Nebraska Republican Liberty Caucus, for which NE Campaign for Liberty State Director Laura Ebke, serves as Chair. RLC-NE’s mission is to serve as the conscience of the Republican party. As you are likely aware, Grassroots in Nebraska has been working on a number of efforts recently with Laura and the NE Campaign for Liberty group, such as advocating for the passage of the Sovereignty Resolution. When Laura asked if GiN would be a co-host for the Governor Johnson event, it was an easy answer.
Governor Johnson at the very least promises to be have a different perspective from much of what’s being heard from politicians today. While serving as New Mexico’s Governor, Gary Johnson vetoed more legislation than all of the other governors in the U.S. during the same period and reduced spending to the extent that New Mexico’s debt was eliminated. He is proof that limited governance doesn’t mean political “suicide”; he was re-elected and served to the length of NM’s term limits.
Of course, I encourage everyone to forward the information about the event to those who they believe may have an interest. All those who attend may find themselves having been in the position of meeting and assessing a potential 2012 candidate; there are indicators that Governor Johnson may be considering a run for President in the next election.
Finally, in addition to what already promises to be an enjoyable and interesting evening, District 26 Legislative Candidate Tom Dierks (who is running against Senator Amanda McGill) is planning on attending Governor Johnson’s speech and hopefully will have a little time to visit with folks afterwards.
Basic information: (see below for links with additional information and registration form)
Saturday, June 19
5:30 – 7:00pm Reception: Meet Gary Johnson and mingle with like-minded conservatives while enjoying hors d’oeuvres and cash bar
7:00 – 8:00pm Presentation and talk by former Governor Johnson

PRIMARY ELECTION RESULTS AND NEXT STEPS
Official results from Nebraska’s Primary Election on May 11 can be read in full on the Nebraska Secretary of State’s website. Click HERE.
GiN’s primary stated mission is to promote limited government as originally intended by the Founders – from the bottom-up. That means our emphasis is within Nebraska and focused on its governmental entities. Those of us who actively engaged in the legislative process this past session recognized in order to effectively advocate for limited government and the protection of individual liberty, we need representatives at the Unicameral who share those priorities.
Of course we are interested in who is sent to represent Nebraska in Washington, D.C., but we have ample evidence that 1) The majority of Congress is currently impervious to all evidence of opposition and 2) the climate in Nebraska favors incumbents, particularly those holding federal offices.
If you are interested in an effort to elect Constitutional, limited government candidates to the Nebraska Unicameral, those of us who spent time walking for District 28 Candidate Nancy Russell intend to build upon her solid showing in the primary, and at the request of several GiN members, are considering expanding our efforts to at least two prospective candidates if we can get commitments from a solid core of volunteers. If you are interested in joining in these efforts, please let us know.
IMMIGRATION
A serious “shout-out” must be given to Susan Smith, leader of the Nebraskans Advisory Group (click HERE for the website). Susan has been working very hard on this issue for a very long time. In the coming week, I hope to do an in-depth interview with her regarding several items of importance, particularly regarding an upcoming vote in Fremont pertaining to an illegal immigrant ordinance. I  will send out a message with a link to a post on the GiN website when completed. In the meantime, some information you might find interesting:
The Fremont vote is June 21. A serious effort is underway to register voters by June 11 for the special election on the ordinance noted above.
Susan is urging calls to the Nebraska Congressional delegation; Reps. Terry, Fortenberry, and Smith, urging them to demand National Guard troops be sent to the border and vote no on any amnesty proposal. Click HERE for their contact information.
GiN Online
You will be seeing changes in the next few weeks on the both the main website (http://grassrootsne.com) and the member NING site. The main GiN site could use an improved look, clearer navigation, and more visible links to resources.
Also, NING networks has announced they will begin charging a monthly fee for their services so we will be moving membership to a new location, which will be similar, but hopefully an improvement over the NING site and more integrated into the main website. I will keep folks informed regularly regarding the move.
Thank you,

Tea Party movement, Concerned Americans, Big Government, Obama administration

Are you a Democrat, Republican, Independent, Tea partier or just a concerned American?
Well, speaking for myself, a large portion of the commenters on this blog, and I believe, what I refer to as the big center of this country, I and most people are concerned Americans. We want the federal government to do it’s job of protecting the public, adhering to the US Constitution and separation of powers and doing the bidding of the voters. We do not want big government, intrusion on our rights and freedom and ability to earn a living. We do not want the government dictating every aspect of our lives. We do not want government controlled health care rammed down our throats.
The mainstream media is painting a picture of sterotypes attending and supporting Tea Parties across this country. They would have you believe they are Republican, racists, radicals gun toting wackos. Nothing could be farther from the truth. They are mostly Democrats, Republicans, Independents, concerned Americans who are against out of control government. Many, like myself, do not like either party or status quo party politics. A great many people who have these concerns attend Tea Parties or support them. However, many Americans do not align themselves with the Tea Party movement, but do share many of the concerns. Millions of Americans question Obama, his administration, his cronies and his past. Many of these folks are active and retired military and quite a few are high ranking military officers. Despite the best efforts of the MSM and even Fox News to portray anyone questioning Obama and his past as fringe components, the wisdom of the American people and their desire for the truth prevails.
Here are two articles on the Tea Party movement.

“Establishment Terrified by Tea Party Movement”

By Matt Towery

“Whenever I’m in the nation’s capital, it’s always entertaining to see government staff, aides, lobbyists and elected officials doing their thing. They can make you feel like an outsider — unless, that is, you were there when Ronald Reagan was sworn in, doing then as they are doing now. Then you realize that they’re just younger versions of yourself.
With age and experience comes a trace of wisdom. In talking to various Washington insiders over the last few days, I’ve noticed a predominant theme: The GOP establishment hasn’t a clue how to manage the so-called Tea Party movement. And the Democrats are equally clueless as they try to profile and pigeonhole these new activists.
I’ve been closely watching Tea Partiers since about this time last year. I noticed early on that establishment Republican elected officials have been letting the Tea Party march right on past. These officeholders are afraid they’ll be seen as radical if they associate with the protest movement.
Conventional Washington wisdom seems to have it that moderate, swing voters in the fall general elections will turn away from the GOP if the party ends up with nominees for Congress who are either self-identified as Tea Partiers or are somehow associated with them.”

“The Democrats are even more in the dark. They have persuaded themselves that the Tea Party crowd is one and the same with the so-called “birthers,” who believe President Obama was not born in the United States and should not be eligible to serve as president. The Democrats welcome the Tea Party because they believe it will divide the GOP and bring to the fore weaker and less experienced Republican candidates in November. Either that, they believe, or it will cause a big chunk of disenchanted Republican voters — either establishment or Tea Party — to sit out this year’s general election altogether.”

“I keep reading media reports that try to portray some Tea Partiers as racist. They keep insisting that alleged racial slurs were hurled at certain members of Congress when the health care bill was being considered. Much media, like many Beltway insiders, are characterizing as a racist-inspired fringe element what is in fact a loud manifestation of anger and fear over taxes, government growth, and possible abridgements of future liberty and security.
I don’t buy it. The Tea Party may or may not be substantial enough to transform the GOP into a more conservative party. But my polling tells this: We are likely to see Republican primaries this year that will be contested as never before. And that means there could be an avalanche of Americans voting Republican in November.
The Tea Party effort is both symbolic and a catalyst. It will end up spurring a rush of voter intensity the GOP hasn’t seen since 1994. Oh, yes, I liked this town a lot in those days.”

“Alinsky’s Avenging Angels: Tea Party Saboteurs

By Michelle Malkin

“One of the popular signs spotted at Tea Party protests across the country over the past year goes like this: “It doesn’t matter what this sign says. You’ll call it racism, anyway!” It’s a pithy, perfect rejoinder to the fusillade of attacks that limited-government activists have weathered from their Democratic detractors and a hostile national media. Committed Alinsky-ites never let reality get in the way of a good Tea Party-bashing narrative.
The radical acolytes of Chicago’s late left-wing organizer Saul Alinsky also understand the importance of manufacturing demons. “Before men can act,” Alinsky preached, “an issue must be polarized. Men will act when they are convinced their cause is 100 percent on the side of the angels, and that the opposition are 100 percent on the side of the devil.” This explains the left’s relentless campaign to sabotage the anti-tax, anti-bailout movement from Day One.
President Obama’s community organizing allies whispered “racist,” “fascist” and “fringe” in the earliest days of the stimulus demonstrations in January and February 2009, when hundreds of first-time protesters turned out on the streets in Washington State, Colorado, Arizona and Kansas. The whispers turned to hysterical screams as hundreds became thousands and thousands became millions of peaceful marchers who gathered for the first nationwide Tax Day Tea Party. Some fringe, huh?
The latest effort to smear Tea Partiers involves self-appointed agents provocateurs who are organizing a “Crash the Tea Party” campaign to discredit the April 15 Tax Day Tea Party by making up bogus racist signs and providing false portrayals of grassroots activists to the press. An online punk, Jason Levin, is spearheading the infiltration effort to “act on behalf of the Tea Party in ways which exaggerate their least appealing qualities” and “damage the public’s opinion of them.” Never mind that public opinion polls now show that the majority of Americans stand with the core principles of fiscal responsibility espoused by Tea Party activists.”

“Fast-forward to April 2010. Alinsky’s avenging angels have declared open warfare on April 15. Will they be enabled again by “mainstream journalists” who have turned their Tea Party reporting assignments into search-and-destroy missions? The signs point to yes.”

Health Care Bill unconstitutional, Constitutional expert speaks out

Michael Connelly is a constitutional expert.

“The first thing to go will be the masterfully crafted balance of power between
the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of the U.S. Government. The
Congress will be transferring to the Obama Administration authority in a number
of different areas over the lives of the American people, and the businesses
they own.
The irony is that the Congress doesn’t have any authority to legislate in most
of those areas to begin with! I defy anyone to read the text of the U.S.
Constitution and find any authority granted to the members of Congress to
regulate health care.
This legislation also provides for access, by the appointees of the Obama
administration, to all of your personal healthcare information, your personal
financial information, and the information of your employer, physician, and
hospital. All of this is a direct violation to protection against unreasonable
searches and seizures. A direct violation of the specific provisions of the 4th
Amendment to the Constitution. You can also forget about the right to privacy.
That will have been legislated into oblivion regardless of what the 3rd and 4th
Amendments may provide.”

Health Care Bill Amish exemption, Religious exemption, Tax and control bill unconstitutional, Section 1501, Mennonite and Amish health care sharing plans, Let us pray

Health Care Bill Amish exemption, Religious exemption

The tax and control bill referred to as the Health Care Bill by Obama and the Democrat Congress, is clearly unconstutional on many levels. For some reason the word treason also comes to mind.

Reported here, March 25, 2010.

“Well, I have done it! I have read the entire text of: The Affordable Health Care
Choices Act of 2009. I studied it with particular emphasis from my area of
expertise, constitutional law. I was frankly concerned that parts of the
proposed law that were being discussed might be unconstitutional. What I found
was far worse than what I had heard or expected.
To begin with, much of what has been said about the law and its implications is
in fact true, despite what the Democrats and the media are saying. The law does
provide for rationing of health care, particularly where senior citizens and
other classes of citizens are involved, free health care for illegal immigrants,
free abortion services, and probably forced participation in abortions by
members of the medical profession.
The Bill will also eventually force private insurance companies out of business,
and put everyone into a government run system. All decisions about personal
health care will ultimately be made by federal bureaucrats, and most of them
will not be health care professionals. Hospital admissions, payments to
physicians, and allocations of necessary medical devices will be strictly
controlled by the government.
However, as scary as all of that is, it just scratches the surface. In fact, I
have concluded that this legislation really has no intention of providing
affordable health care choices. Instead it is a convenient cover for the most
massive transfer of power to the Executive Branch of government that has ever
occurred, or even been contemplated. If this law or a similar one is adopted,
major portions of the Constitution of the United States will effectively have
been destroyed.”

Will the Amish and other religious sects be exempt from this bill?

Michelle Malkin reported the following on Hanuary 12, 2010.

“There’s a religious exemption from the Demcare insurance mandate”

“I think there’s going to be a wave of religious conversions this year. The Watertown Daily News reported this weekend that Amish families can claim an exemption from the Demcare’s planned government health care insurance mandate as a matter of faith:
Federal health care reform will require most Northern New Yorkers — but not all, it turns out — to carry health insurance or risk a fine.
Hundreds of Amish families in the region are likely to be free from that requirement.
The Amish, as well as some other religious sects, are covered by a “religious conscience” exemption, which allows people with religious objections to insurance to opt out of the mandate. It is in both the House and Senate versions of the bill, making its appearance in the final version routine unless there are last-minute objections.
Although the Amish consist of several branches, some more conservative than others, they generally rely upon a community ethic that disdains government assistance. Families rely upon one another, and communities pitch in to help neighbors pay health care expenses.
…Lawmakers reportedly included the provision at the urging of Amish constituents, although the legislation does not specify that community and the provision could apply to other groups as well, including Old Order Mennonites and perhaps Christian Scientists.”

From Get Religion March 24, 2010.

“Religious exemption in health care reform?”

“The Goshen News starts with a straightforward headline, “Health care reform and the Amish: What will it all mean?” and a lede that made me cringe:
With his long gray beard, plain clothes and lack of electricity, David Yoder of rural Middlebury hardly seems like someone who would know much about government issues.
But the rest of the article delivers, answering questions that other newspapers have left dangling out there. Turns out the House’s bill had a religious conscience clause that may exempt most Amish families. But that may not extend to younger Amish who have yet to officially join the church and likely wouldn’t exempt Amish-owned businesses.
Here’s what Third District Congressman Mark Souder told the paper’s Gary Kauffman:
Souder says there probably will be no compelling reason to give Amish business owners an exemption simply based on their faith.
“There probably will not be a way to exempt them any more than we can exempt Mennonites or others,” he said.
Souder said the Amish, along with other conservative groups, like Orthodox Jews, have been a topic of discussion already.
“The fundamental question is, ‘Is religious freedom trumped by a public health care program?’” he said. “There will be a religious liberty fight, but the Amish likely will be part of a bigger category than just themselves.””

From a comment recently posted there.

“12. Amish says:
March 26, 2010, at 1:05 am
Section 1501 is the correct section for Religious Exemptions. I work for one of the Old Order Mennonite / Amish health care sharing plans and we are a 501 (c) 12. Not a 501 (c) 3. We chose the c 12 over the c 3 designation because we don’t function as a charity and it would be dishonest to say we are a charity when we are not. We are a cooperative and cooperate among ourselves to meet our health care expenses. Many of the health care sharing plans are not registered with the IRS at all or are 501 (c) 12’s. Writing the law to allow only 501 (c) 3’s a religious exemption is in fact not allowing the Amish and Old Order Mennonites any exemption at all.”

I will continue to seek clarification on the religious exemption. If you have any knowledge on this subject, a response is appreciated.

Brethren, let us pray.

GOP Forces New House Vote on Health Care Bill, March 25, 2010, Republican challenges, Senate parliamentarian, Reconciliation rules

GOP Forces New House Vote on Health Care Bill, March 25, 2010

From Fox News, March 25, 2010.

“GOP Forces New House Vote on Health Care Bill”

“The follow-up health care bill being considered by the Senate will have to return to the House for final congressional approval, after the Senate parliamentarian determined that two Republican challenges will succeed in stripping out language in the package.

Altering the bill in any way means it has to return to the House side, which first approved the package of changes Sunday, since both chambers must pass identical versions.

Democrats don’t appear worried. Jim Manley, spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, said the House could easily approve the expected changes. The Senate is expected to complete work on the bill Thursday afternoon, and the House could take it up again the same day — or push it off until Friday.

The package of changes, which is being considered under “reconciliation” rules allowing the Senate to approve it with just 51 votes, is the final piece of the legislative puzzle to the health care reform package signed into law Tuesday. Health care reform is officially enacted, but House Democrats wanted the package of fixes to change the way it’s financed and address other concerns.

The glitches have to do with Pell grants for low-income students.

A senior Senate Republican leadership aide told Fox News that Democrats had tried to improve the cost of the bill while simultaneously piling on Pell grants “without mandating the spending.” The aide said Democrats claimed the grants would increase, but were relying on a “future Congress” to find the funding.

“They can’t do that,” the aide said. “This was one of 100 gimmicks used to keep the score down.”

Republicans have been hunting for such violations in hopes of bringing down the legislation. Democrats had also been consulting with the parliamentarian, Alan Frumin, and hoped they had written a measure that would not be vulnerable to such problems.

The two provisions are expected to be formally removed from the bill on Thursday. Both chambers are hoping to begin a spring recess by this weekend.

The president, who signed the landmark legislation into law on Tuesday, was flying to Iowa later in the day for the first of many appearances he will make around the country before the fall congressional elections to sell his health care revamp.

Obama was appearing in Iowa City, where as a presidential candidate in 2007 he touted his ideas for health coverage for all. His trip comes with polls showing people are divided over the new health law, and Democratic lawmakers from competitive districts hoping he can convince more voters by November that it was the right move.

Besides reshaping parts of the landmark health overhaul, the legislation transforms the federal student loan program — in which private banks distribute the money — into one in which the government issues the loans directly. That produces some federal savings, which the bill uses in part to increase Pell grants to needy students.

The latest development came as the Senate completed nine hours of uninterrupted voting on 29 GOP amendments to the legislation. Majority Democrats defeated every amendment.”

Fire Pelosi, Buh bye congress, November 2010 elections

“We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution.”…Abraham Lincoln

Buh

Congress

Obama and the Democrat controlled congress have won a skirmish or battle. They will  not win the war. Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are liars and hypocrites. We now know that Bart Stupak and many other Democrats in Congress are also liars and hypocrites as well as being un American. They have made it easy to identify who to vote out in November.

Nancy Pelosi may not be voted out anytime soon, but her power as Speaker of the House is coming to an end.

It’s The People’s House, Not Pelosi’s House

“Republicans in Congress have listened to your concerns in the debate over health care.  They’ve fought hard to make the voices of the people who opposed this bill heard in the halls of Washington, D.C.  In fact, by any objective account, they won the debate.   Unfortunately, the only side of the debate that matters to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is her own.
After all her wrong-headed policies and failed promises, we know she isn’t listening to the people’s voice and isn’t doing the People’s business.  It’s her business, her agenda that she fights for – and a radically flawed agenda it is.
Over the last year, Pelosi promised to preside over the most open and transparent government, yet even her own Democrats admit they simply “aren’t transparent;”she promised to create jobs, yet America has lost 3.3 million since the passage of her maligned stimulus bill; she promised to legislate with a spirit of bipartisanship, yet Democrats say “they have been explicitly told not to work with Republicans.”  Now, despite overwhelming opposition from the American people, she’s forced her health care bill through the House Chamber, after calling opponents of government-run health care “un-American.”
This is exactly why, in the few hours since Madam Speaker passed her government-run health care bill, Americans have donated more than $600,000 (far exceeding our original goal of $402010) to fire Speaker Pelosi and help Republicans regain the majority in 2010 to reverse the damage she has done.”
