Blagojevich trial, Joseph Aramanda testifies soon, Aramanda linked to Blagojevich Rezko Obama

Today, Tuesday, June 15, 2010, testimony in the Rod Blagojevich trial continues. Joseph Aramanda, with ties to Blagojevich, Rezko and Obama is expected to testify soon.

“In addition to lining their own pockets, the money gained through the scheme was
funneled to the campaigns of Blagojevich and Obama. Prosecutors have identified
two $10,000 payments that were made to Obama’s US Senate campaign through straw
donors Joseph Aramanda and Elie Maloof, which originated from a kickback paid by
investment firm, Glencoe Capital, to secure approval for a $50 million deal.
Aramanda and Maloof also each gave Obama $1,000 for his failed run for Congress
in 2000. Once Obama became a US Senator, Aramanda’s son was granted a coveted
intern position in Obama’s Senate office in Washington during the summer of 2005,
based on a request which the Obama’s camp has admitted came from Rezko.”

Blagojevich trial continues, June 14, 2010, Alonzo Monk testimony, FBI tapes, Corruption far worse than indictment, Citizen Wells open thread

Blagojevich trial continues, June 14, 2010, Alonzo Monk testimony, FBI tapes

From Citizen News June 14, 2010.

The Rod Blagojevich trial resumes today, Monday, June 14, 2010. Although the indictment against Blagojevich is extensive and Obama’s name has already surfaced during the trial, the corruption ties involving Rod Blagojevich and Barack Obama are far deeper and go back for many years.

“A few months after receiving his final payment from EKI, Obama sent a request on state Senate letterhead urging Illinois officials to provide a $50,000 tourism promotion grant to another Blackwell company, Killerspin.”
“With support from Obama, other state officials and an Obama aide who went to work part time for Killerspin, the company eventually obtained $320,000 in state grants between 2002 and 2004 to subsidize its tournaments.”
“But Obama portrays himself as a lawmaker dedicated to transparency and sensitive to even the appearance of a conflict of interest.”
“Killerspin’s owner, Blackwell, was a political supporter and friend as well. Both men lived on Chicago’s South Side. Blackwell, a savvy and successful entrepreneur, was one of the first donors to Obama’s early campaigns, including the state senator’s failed bid for a congressional seat in 2000. In the presidential race he is credited on Obama’s website with committing to raise $100,000 to $200,000 for Obama’s campaign.”

“Robert Blackwell had strong ties to Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich who has been mentioned many times during the Tony Rezko corruption trial.
The following is from a news release by EKI Consulting:
“BLACKWELL JR. NAMED TO ILLINOIS GOVERNOR’S TRANSITION TEAM”
The top of the press release reads:
For Immediate Release
Contact: Dan Shomon, (312) 578-0450”

“Obama supported the re-election of Gov. Rod Blagojevich, whose administration is embroiled in corruption probes.

EKI, a Blackwell company, gave $20,000 to Blagojevich.
Electronic Knowledge Interchange won $6 million in technology consulting and software development contracts. EKI did no state
work until after Blagojevich took office.”

The Uniform Code of Military Justice, Article 32 Investigation, paragraph 1, reads:

(a) No charge or specification may be referred to a general court-martial for trial until a through and impartial investigation of all the matters set forth therein has been made. This investigation shall include inquiry as to the truth of the matter set forth in the charges, consideration of the form of charges, and recommendation as to the disposition which should be made of the case in the interest of justice and discipline.

a. While the Federal Courts have an interest in procuring justice in the matter, the technicalities of those courts and whatever rulings have or have not transpired do not apply to facts and information relevant to this matter. So it is that this court may also consider whatever evidence it seems true and faithful to the U.S.C.

(b) Your statement in paragraph 6 making a unilateral ruling on the role Congress may or may not play in any eligibility determination is incorrect. Obama has been sued prior to his (presumably) legally becoming President since he had never shown himself to be legally eligible to hold that office and in fact lied on his Declaration of Candidacy. Your pretense that somehow Congress could impeach a person ineligible to hold office actually is contrary to what would happen in the matter of an ineligible person who was sitting in the presidential seat of authority as a usurper.

(c) The Frame Work necessary to straighten the executive branch should be recognized by this court as a matter of jurisprudence, and if there exist evidence that would release the charges by statutes of compliance towards duty, that should be considered equitably. If there is one advantage of a military court, it is that of examining evidence and testimony minus the political fever at large. Now I challenge this court to hear my testimony, and to examine the evidence herein as a matter of defense for Lt. Col. Lakin as I do have direct standing in the matter which surrounds the issues with which he is so charged with, and I offer myself as witness for his behalf feeling it would be beyond my ability to withhold my testimony as a natural born citizen of the United States who has standing in the 2008 Presidential Election, in the defense of the same military which is sworn to protect me and uphold the United States Constitution.”

FTC increase funding of PBS, PBS left wing statements, How to Speak Tea Bag, Open thread, June 13, 2010

FTC increase funding of PBS, PBS left wing statements, How to Speak Tea Bag
“The function of the press is very high. It is almost Holy.
It ought to serve as a forum for the people, through which
the people may know freely what is going on. To misstate or
suppress the news is a breach of trust.”…. Louis D. Brandeis

From the FTC document
“POTENTIAL POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS TO SUPPORT
THE REINVENTION OF JOURNALISM”
“The Public Broadcasting Act of 1967 created and provided funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), which oversees both the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) and National Public Radio (NPR).”
“According to CPB, “the fundamental purpose of public service media is to provide programs and services that inform, enlighten and enrich the public… CPB invests in programs and services that are educational, innovative, locally relevant and reflect America’s common values and cultural diversity.””
“Various commentators agree that CPB funding needs to be increased,90 and many believe that NPR and PBS stations need to build and maintain strong newsrooms at the state and local levels.91 NPR announced in October 2009 that it would launch a new journalism project to develop in-depth, local coverage on topics critical to communities and the nation. The project is being funded with $2 million from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and $1 million from the Knight Foundation. One speaker suggested that with additional federal funding, this initiative could be expanded.92 The president and CEO of NPR explained that this project will “beef up local online content at the station level” and will be done in “partnership with other public media players [and] new not-for-profits.””

From Citizen Wells January 5, 2010
“NPR Shows Everyone How to Speak ‘Tea Bag’… with OUR Money”
“But what happens when the so-called “humor” crosses the line? It’s one thing to make fun of someone, but trying to discredit an entire movement of frustrated Americans and doing it with taxpayer money is something entirely different. How much longer are we going to continue to fund left-wing propaganda with OUR money? Just look at the NPR web site for their latest “humor” directed at the hundreds of thousands of “Tea Party” activists across the country.
Prominently displayed on the National Public Radio (NPR) web site is a new cartoon titled, “Learn To Speak Tea Bag.” Of course, Tea Party activists don’t ever use the term “tea bag,” a phrase that refers to a sexual act and which has been used by the media to demean the entire tea party movement.”

FTC aka Big Brother, FTC to control internet?, FTC to help and control media?, 1984, Open thread, June 12, 2010

“The (American) press, which is mostly controlled by vested
interests, has an excessive influence on public opinion.”
…. Albert Einstein

A snippet from the FTC, more to come.

“POTENTIAL POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS TO SUPPORT
THE REINVENTION OF JOURNALISM”

“Establish a “journalism” division of AmeriCorps. AmeriCorps is the federal program that places young people with nonprofits to get training and do public service work.87 According to proponents, this proposal would help to ensure that young people who love journalism will stay in the field. “It strikes us as a win-win; we get more journalists covering our communities, and young journalists have a chance to gain valuable experience – even at a time when the small dailies where they might have started are laying reporters off.””
“Public radio and television should be substantially reoriented to provide significant local news reporting in every community served by public stations and their Web sites. This requires urgent action by and reform of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, increased congressional funding and support for public media news reporting, and changes in mission and leadership for many public stations across the country.”

Provide grants to universities to conduct investigative journalism. According to one speaker, “if the nation’s 200,000 journalism and mass communications students spent 10 percent of their time doing actual journalism, that would more than make up for all the traditional media jobs that have been lost in the past 10 years.” (my highlighting actual journalism?)

Alonzo Monk testimony, Blagojevich trial update, June 10, 2010, Rezko began paying Blagojevich in 2004

Alonzo Monk testimony, Blagojevich trial update, June 10, 2010

From the Chicago Tribune June 10, 2010.

“Witness says Blagojevich urged silence about money”

“Monk testified Thursday that Blagojevich fundraiser Tony Rezko, currently awaiting sentencing for fraud and other charges, slipped him as much as $90,000 in cash when he was the governor’s chief of staff — typically $10,000 at a time stuffed in an envelope.

Blagojevich has pleaded not guilty to trying to profit from his power to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by President Barack Obama and squeezing people for campaign contributions. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 415 years in prison, though a judge would consider many factors. Blagojevich also could face fines totaling $6 million.

Monk has pleaded guilty to scheming to pressure a racetrack owner for a contribution and is testifying in hopes of getting a lighter sentence.”

“Monk said Rezko began paying him cash in 2004. At Monk’s wedding, Rezko’s present to Monk was $10,000 in cash and an offer to pay for a remodeling project at the newlyweds’ home. Thanks to the flow of cash, which Monk kept at home, he said he never had to withdraw money from the bank or use an ATM. ”
“Earlier Thursday, Monk testified about how Blagojevich put supporters and fundraisers on state boards that oversaw major business sectors, often at the urging of members of his inner circle. ”

Rod Blagojevich trial opening statements, Day 4, June 8, 2010, How soon will Obama’s name be mentioned?, Open thread

Rod Blagojevich trial opening statements, Day 4, June 8, 2010

From Citizen News.

“Today, Tuesday, June 8, 2010, jury selection is almost complete and opening statements should begin. How soon will Obama’s name be mentioned? You have heard this before. During the Tony Rezko trial Rod  Blagojevich had not been indicted yet his name kept popping up. The same thing should happen for Obama.

From the Chicago Tribune.

“As courtroom styles go, it is hard to imagine a more stark contrast than the ones that will be on display Tuesday when prosecution and defense lawyers make their opening statements in the federal corruption trial of former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.”

“Blagojevich’s side, as presented by the often volcanic lawyer Sam Adam Jr., might resemble a passionate plea from a televangelist as much as a legal presentation.

With the preliminaries in the trial all but over after three days of vetting potential jurors, the final panel is set be seated early Tuesday, then the main event will get under way — with an estimated four months of testimony to follow.

At long last, prosecutors will unveil the full weight of the case against a former governor whose administration came under federal scrutiny not long after his election in 2002. It culminated in the bugging of Blagojevich’s campaign office and the tapping of his phones as he allegedly tried to trade official acts for campaign cash and sell the U.S. Senate seat vacated by President Barack Obama.

Hamilton is part of the same three-member prosecution team that secured the 2008 corruption conviction of Blagojevich’s fundraiser and friend Antoin “Tony” Rezko.

At her opening in that trial, she exhibited a biting tone of indignation as she explained how Rezko allegedly used his influence with Blagojevich to manipulate state regulatory panels so he and others could pocket kickbacks. On Tuesday, she will go a step further and claim that Rezko was acting on behalf of Blagojevich in an alleged conspiracy that the government has dubbed “the Blagojevich Enterprise.”

“The primary purpose of the Blagojevich Enterprise was to exercise and preserve power over the government of the state of Illinois for the financial and political benefit of defendant Rod Blagojevich, and for the benefit of his family members and associates,” the indictment against the governor states.

Adam will open for Blagojevich’s defense, and his statement promises to be delivered with all the calm of a gospel preacher in full fire and brimstone fury. Arguing with animated passion and sometimes belly-busting humor has become a trademark for the 37-year-old Adam at the Cook County Criminal Courts Building at 26th Street and California Avenue, where he has spent most of his legal career.

“The more you try to say things the way you think people want to hear them, the more you get away from what got you there in the first place,” Adam said in a recent interview.””

MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR A JUNE 19TH EVENT – AN EVENING WITH GARY JOHNSON
Former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson is coming to Lincoln on June 19th for an event that includes a reception and talk. Those who are interested in elected officials who limit the size of government, protect freedom, and seek to maximize the potential for free enterprise should mark this event on their calendars.
The event has been organized by the Nebraska Republican Liberty Caucus, for which NE Campaign for Liberty State Director Laura Ebke, serves as Chair. RLC-NE’s mission is to serve as the conscience of the Republican party. As you are likely aware, Grassroots in Nebraska has been working on a number of efforts recently with Laura and the NE Campaign for Liberty group, such as advocating for the passage of the Sovereignty Resolution. When Laura asked if GiN would be a co-host for the Governor Johnson event, it was an easy answer.
Governor Johnson at the very least promises to be have a different perspective from much of what’s being heard from politicians today. While serving as New Mexico’s Governor, Gary Johnson vetoed more legislation than all of the other governors in the U.S. during the same period and reduced spending to the extent that New Mexico’s debt was eliminated. He is proof that limited governance doesn’t mean political “suicide”; he was re-elected and served to the length of NM’s term limits.
Of course, I encourage everyone to forward the information about the event to those who they believe may have an interest. All those who attend may find themselves having been in the position of meeting and assessing a potential 2012 candidate; there are indicators that Governor Johnson may be considering a run for President in the next election.
Finally, in addition to what already promises to be an enjoyable and interesting evening, District 26 Legislative Candidate Tom Dierks (who is running against Senator Amanda McGill) is planning on attending Governor Johnson’s speech and hopefully will have a little time to visit with folks afterwards.
Basic information: (see below for links with additional information and registration form)
Saturday, June 19
5:30 – 7:00pm Reception: Meet Gary Johnson and mingle with like-minded conservatives while enjoying hors d’oeuvres and cash bar
7:00 – 8:00pm Presentation and talk by former Governor Johnson
Holiday Inn Southwest, Lincoln

PRIMARY ELECTION RESULTS AND NEXT STEPS
Official results from Nebraska’s Primary Election on May 11 can be read in full on the Nebraska Secretary of State’s website. Click HERE.
GiN’s primary stated mission is to promote limited government as originally intended by the Founders – from the bottom-up. That means our emphasis is within Nebraska and focused on its governmental entities. Those of us who actively engaged in the legislative process this past session recognized in order to effectively advocate for limited government and the protection of individual liberty, we need representatives at the Unicameral who share those priorities.
Of course we are interested in who is sent to represent Nebraska in Washington, D.C., but we have ample evidence that 1) The majority of Congress is currently impervious to all evidence of opposition and 2) the climate in Nebraska favors incumbents, particularly those holding federal offices.
If you are interested in an effort to elect Constitutional, limited government candidates to the Nebraska Unicameral, those of us who spent time walking for District 28 Candidate Nancy Russell intend to build upon her solid showing in the primary, and at the request of several GiN members, are considering expanding our efforts to at least two prospective candidates if we can get commitments from a solid core of volunteers. If you are interested in joining in these efforts, please let us know.
IMMIGRATION
A serious “shout-out” must be given to Susan Smith, leader of the Nebraskans Advisory Group (click HERE for the website). Susan has been working very hard on this issue for a very long time. In the coming week, I hope to do an in-depth interview with her regarding several items of importance, particularly regarding an upcoming vote in Fremont pertaining to an illegal immigrant ordinance. I  will send out a message with a link to a post on the GiN website when completed. In the meantime, some information you might find interesting:
The Fremont vote is June 21. A serious effort is underway to register voters by June 11 for the special election on the ordinance noted above.
Susan is urging calls to the Nebraska Congressional delegation; Reps. Terry, Fortenberry, and Smith, urging them to demand National Guard troops be sent to the border and vote no on any amnesty proposal. Click HERE for their contact information.
GiN Online
You will be seeing changes in the next few weeks on the both the main website (http://grassrootsne.com) and the member NING site. The main GiN site could use an improved look, clearer navigation, and more visible links to resources.
Also, NING networks has announced they will begin charging a monthly fee for their services so we will be moving membership to a new location, which will be similar, but hopefully an improvement over the NING site and more integrated into the main website. I will keep folks informed regularly regarding the move.
Thank you,
