“Insurers warn of sticker shock due to health care law’s new taxes”
“The nation’s big health insurers say they expect premiums — or the
cost for insurance coverage — to rise from 20 to 100 percent for
millions of people due to changes that will occur when key provisions
of the Affordable Care Act roll out in January 2014.

Mark Bertolini, CEO of Aetna Inc., one of the nation’s largest
insurers, calls the price hikes “premium rate shock.”

“We’ve done all the math, we’ve shared it with all the regulators,
we’ve shared it with all the people in Washington that need to see it,
and I think it’s a big concern,” Bertolini said during the company’s
annual meeting with investors in December.

To be sure, there will be no across-the-board rate hikes for everyone,
and there’s no reliable national data on how many people could see
increases. But the biggest price hikes are expected to hit a group
that represents a relatively small slice of the insured population.
That includes some of the roughly 14 million people who buy their own
insurance as opposed to being covered under employer-sponsored plans,
and to a lesser extent, some employees of smaller companies.

The price increases are a downside of President Barack Obama’s health
care law, which is expected to expand coverage to nearly 30 million
uninsured people. The massive law calls for a number of changes that
could cause premiums for people who don’t have coverage through a big
employer to rise next year — at a time when health care costs already
are expected to grow by 5 percent or more”

while the political votes may be hard to find, a leading health-care
expert told WND the flaws of the system will likely lead to its
implosion in the near term.

Grace-Marie Turner is president of the Galen Institute and one of the
leading policy-based critics of Obamacare.

She said House Republicans are right to keep pushing for the repeal of
Obamacare because of the myriad ways it afflicts the nation’s fiscal
health.

“When you look at the overall impact of this law on the economy, we
know that it’s hugely important in depressing job creation,” she said.
“It’s forcing companies to put people on part-time when they need
full-time workers. The incredible number of new taxes, a trillion
dollars in new taxes in this law just in its own right. It is one of
the major factors that is depressing economic growth. When you have
economic growth depressed, you don’t have the tax revenue that you
need.””
“Turner is still optimistic that state rejection of Obamacare will help
bring about its demise. She noted that only 17 states have agreed to
the exchanges, and some state legislatures may overrule their own
governors on expansion of Medicaid. Turner also noted that even
liberal states like California and Connecticut are pleading with the
federal government to stop the stream of new regulations that may well
prevent exchanges from opening on time in those states.

The bureaucracy is not only impacting state governments, but
individuals as well. Americans used to a couple of pages worth of
paperwork to enroll in a health plan are now forced to fill out dozens
of pages to comply with the government requirements to join the
exchanges. Turner said the amount of federal prying could turn off
many people from the program.”

“The county has cut costs for the past two years by increasing co-pays,
deductible amounts and out-of-pocket maximums for employees.

“Over the last four years, no merit increases have been awarded to
Guilford County employees,” Fuller said Friday in an email. “However
… health insurance rates and benefit coverage plan costs have
continued to increase. As a result of those increases, county
employees have experienced a pay decrease that has grown larger each
year.””

““It looks to me like Obamacare is causing prices to go up and will
continue to make prices go up,” Henning said. “That’s something we’re
going to have to deal with, like everyone else in this economy.”

“The patient – decked out in non-skid footies, a loose hospital gown and a breathing tube – prays she’s finally on the mend. At age 81, Juanita King had logged nearly five weeks at WakeMed Hospital since October after her breathing became so labored she had trouble walking.

The Clayton grandmother, weakened by a failing heart and obstructed lungs, wasn’t home even two weeks after the first hospital stay before returning to WakeMed earlier this month for another round of needles, meds and tests.

WakeMed, along with hospitals across the country, is scrambling to keep patients like King from coming back. Under federal penalties that kicked in Oct. 1 as part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, hospitals lose Medicare reimbursements if their patients are readmitted at an excessive rate.

WakeMed officials, for example, estimate that the 15 readmissions since 2010 that Medicare deemed excessive will cost the Raleigh health care company more than $400,000 in the coming year.”

“In North Carolina, a half-dozen hospitals were levied either the maximum Medicare penalty for excessive readmissions or a penalty very close to the 1 percent max. The hospitals are in Ahoskie, Lumberton, Eden, Williamston, Hamlet and Rocky Mount, according to an analysis by Kaiser Health News. Hospital officials note that areas where hospitals get hit with high penalties are typically in economically depressed areas with limited access to therapists, specialists and other resources essential for preventing hospital readmissions.”

This insurance premium has been charged to your student account.”

Why the increase? “Our student health insurance policy premium has been substantially increased due to changes required by federal regulations issued on March 16, 2012 under the Affordable Care Act.”

“Guilford joins a long list of colleges raising their premiums. Virtually all current student insurance plans do not meet ObamaCare’s mandates, and Forbes reports colleges have been forced to drop their plans or raise their premiums rates as much as 1,112% (and no, that’s not a typo).”

“During his first run for president, Barack Obama made one very specific promise to voters: He would cut health insurance premiums for families by $2,500, and do so in his first term.

But it turns out that family premiums have increased by more than $3,000 since Obama’s vow, according to the latest annual Kaiser Family Foundation employee health benefits survey.

Premiums for employer-provided family coverage rose $3,065 — 24% — from 2008 to 2012, the Kaiser survey found. Even if you start counting in 2009, premiums have climbed $2,370.”

“Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center launched a distress signal in a gathering storm when it said on Nov. 14 that it will cut 950 jobs.

That storm has at its center national health care reform, possible lower reimbursements for Medicare and Medicaid services, and an increasing number of older patients who need more care.

The hospital industry is in for a direct hit — that’s not in doubt.

But mass layoffs may be only one of many solutions for the health care industry’s problems.

The problem for hospitals is choosing the right one: mass layoffs, refined management techniques or some middle ground.

Wake Forest declined an interview request for this article. But it has said in other accounts that the roughly 6 percent staff cut is a pre-emptive measure for expected budget cuts and rising costs. And it expects remaining workers will become more productive as a result.

That’s a delicate balance, said Mark Graban, a national expert and consultant on health care management who lives in San Antonio, Texas.

“It’s easy to add up the cost savings of reduced payroll,” he said. “But it’s hard to add up the side effect of those layoffs.”

He said layoffs are sweeping the industry. Graban referred to a report from the American Hospital Association that says hospitals will cut 93,000 jobs during 2013.

Wake Forest and other major hospitals across the nation pledge that nurse-to-patient ratios won’t change despite the job cuts. Graban said that simple pledge may only mask lingering problems that hurt the quality of patient care.

Nurses and other professional staff, for example, see the headlines, see friends who may be laid off and work in fear, he said.

“A lot of times, quality and good patient outcomes are a result of nurses and other staff going above and beyond,” Graban said. “My concern would be not that the professionals are going to get lazy, but are they going to continue to be motivated to go above and beyond?”

Across the nation, he said, many medical centers are choosing “no layoff” policies and using management techniques pioneered in industry.

“Lean management” is a term many industries use for a variety of techniques that train workers to improve performance, make fewer mistakes and work with higher morale, he said.

Lean does not mean, as many joke, “Less Employees Are Needed.”

Graban worked with one hospital, ThedaCare in Appleton, Wis., which typifies the technique. The medium-size hospital manages conservatively, he said, doesn’t over-hire workers and saves cash for slow times.

Don Dalton, the spokesman for the N.C. Hospital Association, said hospitals throughout the state are using lean-management techniques — especially the smallest hospitals.

The coming changes could cost North Carolina’s hospitals up to $7.5 billion over the next 10 years , Dalton said.

With limited resources, the state’s small and medium-size hospitals feel financial pressure first, he said. So they are looking for any way they can to operate without compromising service.

Hospitals are combining resources to save money. In some cases, that means nothing more than “group buying” of supplies and services — lower prices for bulk buyers.

On a larger scale, Greensboro’s Cone Health signed a managing partnership earlier this year with Carolinas Health Systems in Charlotte.

Doug Allred, the spokesman for Cone, which employs more than 8,000 people , said: “We do not have plans for any layoffs right now.”

When asked to discuss issues facing the hospital industry in general, Allred said: “We are going to decline” an interview.

Jeffrey Miller, the president of High Point Regional Health System , freely discusses what led to the hospital’s planned merger with UNC Health Care.

He said that many unemployed people in the Triad don’t have health insurance, and those who do find that rising deductibles are too expensive.

“So we have a bad-debt problem,” Miller said.

Federal Medicare reimbursements have declined or remained flat, and the program is asking hospitals to fill out more documents to justify expenses.

And finally, the state, which administers Medicaid programs, is cutting its own stretched budget and program reimbursements.

As a result, High Point Regional has operated at a loss for two years. With its 2,212 workers, the hospital lost $40.8 million on unreimbursed care last year.

“It’s coming at us from all directions,” Miller said.

Through careful expense control, Miller said, High Point has not laid off workers, but it has had to cut hours from time to time to save money — and jobs.

Saving money, changing the way a hospital works, changing the way hospitals work together — all are key issues for UNC Health Care and its subsidiaries, said Karen McCall, vice president of public affairs and marketing for the system.

“We need to reduce costs, and all of us are aware of that and we’re trying to take steps to be able to do that through re-engineering,” she said.

Lean management is a big part of how UNC has managed its hospitals.

“It’s really been a core value at UNC for quite some time.”

UNC is planning for a difficult future, especially the unknown effects of more insured people and a growing population of older people who will need more care.

UNC plans to create a system in which each patient has a “medical home,” or a central doctor and staff that can manage the patient’s total care. That doctor would coordinate care from specialists and a variety of other services.

But getting there, McCall said, means spending more money to upgrade technology.

Finally, UNC is constantly keeping an eye on its employees to make sure their morale is good.

“Having worked very, very hard with patient satisfaction, the key to patient satisfaction is employee satisfaction,” she said. “Employee satisfaction is just very important and it’s something we measure and take into consideration all the time.

“We’re looking for best practices outside the industry,” McCall said. “But I really feel that we’re not the only ones doing that. Everyone in health care looking to the future feels that’s very necessary.””

“Update: Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center to cut 950 job”

“Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center will lay off 76 employees this week and cut a total of 950 jobs by the end of next June, the center’s chief executive said today.

Dr. John McConnell said most of the cuts are administrative positions, but some faculty members could lose their jobs due to cuts in federal research funding. He also said 2012-13 revenue is being affected by “deep cuts in Medicare and Medicaid payments, which constitute nearly half of our health-care reimbursements.”

In a statement, the center said the cuts were being made “after a long and careful review of current staffing levels across the organization.”

The center said its restructuring is “designed to position the institution for success aligned with the challenges of health-care reform, federal budget deficits and a decline in research funding from The National Institutes of Health and private industry.
The center said half of the overall job cuts to its Winston-Salem operations would be achieved through eliminating vacant, temporary and contract labor positions, as well as through attrition and employee retirement.

Also among the cuts are 56.5 jobs at the Lexington Medical Center affiliate, of which 52 already are gone through integration of its back office operations, retirements and attrition.

McConnell said the restructuring is “not based on financial difficulty, but is purely preemptive to best position the center going forward. Like most companies, we are getting leaner.

“This represents all of the job reductions based on our current knowledge,” McConnell said, adding that it would be “hard to imagine a section of the hospital not being directly or indirectly affected by the restructuring.”

“This change will not affect nurse-to-patient ratios, the quality of patient care or the pioneering research that is occurring at Wake Forest Baptist each day,” the center said in a statement.

McConnell said the existing nurse-to-patients ratios are “sacrosanct” for the hospital.

The employees whose jobs are being eliminated this week will receive their full pay and benefits through Jan. 4, and after that, their severance benefits will begin.

Michael Walden, an economics professor at N.C. State, said he considers Wake Forest Baptist’s action a “major layoff and a signal of challenges facing many hospitals who are being prompted to increase efficiency.”

“I think this is a bellwether announcement likely to be repeated across the state and nation,” Walden said.”

“The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) issued the following statement, October 12. Full text follows:

Last night, the following statement was made during the Vice Presidential debate regarding the decision of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to force virtually all employers to include sterilization and contraception, including drugs that may cause abortion, in the health insurance coverage they provide their employees:

“With regard to the assault on the Catholic Church, let me make it absolutely clear. No religious institution—Catholic or otherwise, including Catholic social services, Georgetown hospital, Mercy hospital, any hospital—none has to either refer contraception, none has to pay for contraception, none has to be a vehicle to get contraception in any insurance policy they provide. That is a fact. That is a fact.”
This is not a fact. The HHS mandate contains a narrow, four-part exemption for certain “religious employers.” That exemption was made final in February and does not extend to “Catholic social services, Georgetown hospital, Mercy hospital, any hospital,” or any other religious charity that offers its services to all, regardless of the faith of those served.

HHS has proposed an additional “accommodation” for religious organizations like these, which HHS itself describes as “non-exempt.” That proposal does not even potentially relieve these organizations from the obligation “to pay for contraception” and “to be a vehicle to get contraception.” They will have to serve as a vehicle, because they will still be forced to provide their employees with health coverage, and that coverage will still have to include sterilization, contraception, and abortifacients. They will have to pay for these things, because the premiums that the organizations (and their employees) are required to pay will still be applied, along with other funds, to cover the cost of these drugs and surgeries.

USCCB continues to urge HHS, in the strongest possible terms, actually to eliminate the various infringements on religious freedom imposed by the mandate.

What I am about to write about and explain is simple. It is very similar to governments taxing businesses. Doctors are businessmen as well as physicians.
When their cost of doing business rises, the costs are passed along to consumers, patients. It is that simple. The same applies to hospitals and pharmaceutical companies.

Doctors, just like any business person, must decide what service they will provide. They must weigh cost vs benefit and the current and potential risks they will take. Many areas of practice are too risky, especially in our litigious climate. This prevents many doctors from engaging in a type of practice or forces them to join larger groups.

This has been mostly downplayed or ignored by the mainstream media. News outlets like the NY Times have tap danced around the subject which is probably why some of my so called learned friends have been so ill informed. When George Bush brought up tort reform he was ridiculed. But Bush was right and he was not in bed with law firms and attorneys like Obama and the Democrats.

“Doctor Shortage Likely to Worsen With Health Law”

“In the Inland Empire, an economically depressed region in Southern California, President Obama’s health care law is expected to extend insurance coverage to more than 300,000 people by 2014. But coverage will not necessarily translate into care: Local health experts doubt there will be enough doctors to meet the area’s needs. There are not enough now.

Other places around the country, including the Mississippi Delta, Detroit and suburban Phoenix, face similar problems. The Association of American Medical Colleges estimates that in 2015 the country will have 62,900 fewer doctors than needed. And that number will more than double by 2025, as the expansion of insurance coverage and the aging of baby boomers drive up demand for care. Even without the health care law, the shortfall of doctors in 2025 would still exceed 100,000.

Health experts, including many who support the law, say there is little that the government or the medical profession will be able to do to close the gap by 2014, when the law begins extending coverage to about 30 million Americans. It typically takes a decade to train a doctor.

“We have a shortage of every kind of doctor, except for plastic surgeons and dermatologists,” said Dr. G. Richard Olds, the dean of the new medical school at the University of California, Riverside, founded in part to address the region’s doctor shortage. “We’ll have a 5,000-physician shortage in 10 years, no matter what anybody does.”

Experts describe a doctor shortage as an “invisible problem.” Patients still get care, but the process is often slow and difficult. In Riverside, it has left residents driving long distances to doctors, languishing on waiting lists, overusing emergency rooms and even forgoing care.

“It results in delayed care and higher levels of acuity,” said Dustin Corcoran, the chief executive of the California Medical Association, which represents 35,000 physicians. People “access the health care system through the emergency department, rather than establishing a relationship with a primary care physician who might keep them from getting sicker.”

In the Inland Empire, encompassing the counties of Riverside and San Bernardino, the shortage of doctors is already severe. The population of Riverside County swelled42 percent in the 2000s, gaining more than 644,000 people. It has continued to grow despite the collapse of one of the country’s biggest property bubbles and a jobless rate of 11.8 percent in the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario metro area.

But the growth in the number of physicians has lagged, in no small part because the area has trouble attracting doctors, who might make more money and prefer living in nearby Orange County or Los Angeles.”
“The pool of doctors has not kept pace, and will not, health experts said. Medical school enrollment is increasing, but not as fast as the population. The number of training positions for medical school graduates is lagging. Younger doctors are on average working fewer hours than their predecessors. And about a third of the country’s doctors are 55 or older, and nearing retirement.

Physician compensation is also an issue. The proportion of medical students choosing to enter primary care has declined in the past 15 years, as average earnings for primary care doctors and specialists, like orthopedic surgeons and radiologists, have diverged. A study by the Medical Group Management Association found that in 2010, primary care doctors made about $200,000 a year. Specialists often made twice as much.”

“The American Medical Association recognizes there are shortages in certain geographic areas and in certain specialties. Part of that is due to the aging population and a stagnant number of medical-school applicants.

But there are other significant reasons. They include the increasing costs of medical malpractice coverage, higher practice costs, lower insurance reimbursement rates and insurance-company restrictions resulting in less autonomy over how patients are cared for.”

“But for potential physicians, there is a future of looming medical-school debt, which is higher than ever. Students who graduate from a public medical school have a median debt of $100,000; private-school students graduate with a median debt of $135,000, according to a 2003 study by the Association of American Medical Colleges. Compare that with 1984, when median debt for public-school graduates was $22,000 and private-school students was $27,000.

Monthly payment on a debt of $150,000 at the end of residency at an interest rate of 2.8% is $1,761, according to the study.

The amount of time it takes to pay off debt depends on the specialty. The average physician’s net income, adjusted for inflation, declined 7% between 1995 and 2003, according to the Center for Studying Health System Change. In order to enter the most lucrative specialties, like radiology, ophthalmology, anesthesiology and dermatology, doctors must continue with their training into their 30s. That means they can’t start chipping away at their debt–let alone make money–until a time by which their counterparts in law or business are usually prospering.

Meanwhile, getting sued by a patient is a major concern. Of course, doctors who make fatal mistakes and who are unqualified should be held responsible. But there’s evidence that the bulk of lawsuits brought are frivolous. Of all malpractice lawsuits brought to jury trial in 2004, the defendant won 91% of the time. Only 6% of all lawsuits go to trial; those that aren’t thrown out are settled. Only 27% of all claims made against doctors result in money awarded to the plaintiff, according to Smarr, president of the trade association for medical malpractice companies.

Regardless, doctors need to defend themselves against the possibility of damages–and that’s an extremely expensive proposition. It takes about four-and-a-half years from the start of a lawsuit to the end, and the average cost to the defense in legal fees was $94,284 in 2004, according to the American Medical Association.

Many states are trying to establish laws to protect doctors from baseless suits. Texas went from the state with the most lawsuits filed to the only state that wrote tort reform into its constitution after its citizens voted it into law. Since tort reform was enacted in 2004, the yearly premium doctors pay in Texas for malpractice insurance has dropped by 40%. Now, the most plaintiffs can recoup for emotional damages is $250,000 from doctors and $500,000 from hospitals. Most interestingly, the number of claims filed against doctors has dropped by about half.”

Most of the time, I rely on the good graces and expertise of the primary care physicians, surgeons and many other specialists to help take care of the people who come to me seeking help. However, recent trends suggest that our hospitals’ ability to deliver that care with the help of appropriate specialists is eroding.

A great deal of this quiet but steadily growing crisis is caused by the direct and indirect costs of medical malpractice. The article about the malpractice suit involving Dr. Eric Leefmans (“Man wins $1.75 million suit against area doctor,” Sunday Monitor, March 9) demands a response from the medical community.”

General surgery, one of the most coveted residencies just 10 years ago, now struggles to fill residency positions. “The hole in Ann Dunham’s biography”

“In the last year or so respected publishers have released four biographies by mainstream authors that feature, as a central fact, the birth of President Barack Obama to his mother, Stanley Ann Dunham (Ann), in 1961.

Given that there has been a certain controversy about the birth, one might expect that each of the books would, if not settle the controversy, at least deal with it intelligently. None of them does.

These books include a 2010 biography of the president, “The Bridge,” by New Yorker editor David Remnick; a 2011 biography of Dunham, “A Singular Woman,” by New York Times reporter Janny Scott; a 2011 biography of Barack Obama Sr., “The Other Barack,” by Sally Jacobs of the Boston Globe; and a 2010 multi-generational biography of the Obama family, “The Obamas,” by BBC journalist Peter Firstbrook.

Clearly, if Dunham had not given birth to Obama, none of these four books would have been written. Yet the authors are shockingly mute on the subject of Dunham’s pregnancy and Obama’s birth.

University of Hawaii records show that Dunham left school at the end of January in 1961, and subsequent divorce records suggest a Maui wedding on Feb. 2. This is where the paper trial ends.

As to the Maui wedding, everyone writes with uncertainty. Jacobs says only, “The couple apparently had a quiet civil ceremony.” Scott writes that the wedding took place “reportedly on the island of Maui.” (Italics mine)

In Remnick’s account, Dunham tells no one about the wedding, but in Firstbrook’s imaginative account, the parents accompany the happy couple on the trip to Maui. As Obama has conceded, there are no wedding photos and no documents.

After the wedding, Dunham disappears from the record. Not one of these authors provides the slightest hint of what she may have done or where she may have gone between Feb. 2 and Aug. 4 of 1961. Nada. Not a word.

All of these books were published with the eligibility controversy in full flower. The informed reader would expect the authors, especially Dunham’s biographer Scott, to at least comment on the absence of information. None does.

The reporting on Obama’s birth is, if anything, even more evasive. All four rely on the certification of live birth (COLB) first posted online in 2008 by the Daily Kos.

Since the COLB does not specify a hospital, the authors seem to have accepted Obama’s post-election claim to having been born at Kapiolani. Before the election, however, news reports routinely cited Honolulu’s Queen’s Medical Center as Obama’s birthplace.”

“As to those “officials in Hawaii,” one of them was Tim Adams, who served as the senior elections clerk for the City and County of Honolulu in the run-up to the 2008 election.

In his recently posted masters thesis, Adams repeats what he told the media in 2010 before being gagged by his university and menaced by the Obots and their media allies.

“There is no hospital record of [Obama’s] birth in Honolulu and the Hawaii Department of Health told us in the Elections Office that there was no birth certificate.”

To a person, these biographers fail to provide the kind of supporting evidence that would refute Adams’ claim, either with photos or personal testimony.”

Berg said, “Apparently, Piers Morgan, has joined the so called ‘Free Press’ and media by avoiding the hard facts regarding where Obama was born.  It is a shame that Piers Morgan did not live up to his reputation of being a tough interviewer.
Obama’s sister, Maya Soetoro-NG was interviewed by Bennett Guira of Rainbow Edition, Volume 2, Issue 3 in November 2004.  In this article, entitled “A New Face in Politics”, it is stated in the first paragraph “Barack Obama was born on August 4, 1961 at the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.” [emphasis added]  However, Maya Soetoro-Ng was interviewed again by Laurie Au with the Start Bulletin in February 2008 under the headline “Obama backers stress importance of caucuses”.  In the Star Bulletin interview, Maya Soetoro-Ng stated:
“This is a place that’s been relatively unchanged for him, and so much of who he is was born here,” Soetoro-Ng told a crowd of about 200 people eating “OBAMAsadas.”
 
“He was born in Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children, two blocks up from where our grandmother still resides … the place where he used to stick orange peels under his bed, where it got all dried out and … nasty.”  [emphasis added]
 
Berg said, “Piers asked soft questions of Maya regarding where her brother was born and completely failed to address and/or question the contradicting statements by Obama’s sister.”
 
Berg continued, “I am so proud of Donald Trump as he has raised the issue of Obama’s birth even hoping that Obama will prove he was born in Hawaii.  However, Trump has stated that the more he looks into the issue, the more he believes that Obama was not born in Hawaii.

“Why has Obama employed a legion of private and Government attorneys to avoid presenting a legitimate birth certificate and college records?”…Citizen Wells and millions of Americans

 

The question above, combined with the litany of lies Obama has spoken about his past and his past associations, especially his associations with a multitude of Chicago, IL corruption figures such as Tony Rezko, supercedes all arguments regarding Obama eligibility and fitness for the job of President of the United States. And of course, let’s not forget that Obama is not a natural born citizen. I will revist that later.

Let’s revisit some of the lies, ignorance and misstatements of the past associated with officials in the State of Hawaii.

STATEMENT BY DR. CHIYOME FUKINO
“There have been numerous requests for Sen. Barack Hussein Obama’s official birth certificate. State law (Hawai‘i Revised Statutes §338-18) prohibits the release of a certified birth certificate to persons who do not have a tangible interest in the vital record.
“Therefore, I as Director of Health for the State of Hawai‘i, along with the Registrar of Vital Statistics who has statutory authority to oversee and maintain these type of vital records, have personally seen and verified that the Hawai‘i State Department of Health has Sen. Obama’s original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures.
“No state official, including Governor Linda Lingle, has ever instructed that this vital record be handled in a manner different from any other vital record in the possession of the State of Hawai‘i.””

Lou Dobbs “hits the nail on the head” with these statements.

As Dobbs so adroitly states, the COLB presented by the Obama camp is nothing more than a piece of paper that refers to another piece of paper. It is not a legitimate birth certificate and we have no proof that it originated with the Hawaii Health Department. The HI Health Dept. apparently has a birth certificate for Obama, but we have not seen it and Obama has gone to great lengths to keep it and his college records hidden.

World Net Daily has presented another interview of Governor Linda Lingle and controversy surrounding Obama’s birth certificate and the state of Hawaii.

“More than a year and half after Barack Obama was elected commander in chief, the governor of Hawaii is now publicly voicing the alleged exact location of Obama’s birth, saying “the president was, in fact, born at Kapi’olani Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii.”

The disclosure is believed to be the first time a state government official has declared the precise place where Obama was born, despite numerous other published claims, including some for a different hospital in Honolulu.

The remark came Sunday night when Gov. Linda Lingle, a Republican, was interviewed on New York’s WABC Radio by host Rabbi Shmuley Boteach. (The subject was addressed at the 77-minute mark.)”

“Any claim that Obama was unaware of the investigations into the corrupt dealings of Rezko with Illinois politicians in June 2005 is ridiculous. On February 15, 2005, the Chicago Tribune reported:

“Gov. Rod Blagojevich long has vowed to purge the Illinois tollway of cronyism, yet two of his closest friends and political advisers have links to food vendors awarded lucrative contracts to operate inside the toll road’s sleek new oases, government records show.” …

“The Subway sandwich shops and Panda Express Asian restaurants now being installed in the tollway’s seven revamped rest stops are controlled by firms with strong ties to the food-service empire of Antoin “Tony” Rezko, a Blagojevich confidant who has seeded the governor’s cabinet with former business underlings.”

Christopher Kelly, Blagojevich’s chief fundraiser, “who also recommended the tollway’s executive director for his job, is an investor in at least one Rezko-controlled food firm,” the Tribune wrote. On March 16, 2005, the Tribune reported that:

“City officials alleged Tuesday that a minority contractor at O’Hare International Airport acted as a front for a firm run by Antoin “Tony” Rezko, a top adviser and fundraiser for Gov. Rod Blagojevich….

“Rezko, a member of Blagojevich’s kitchen cabinet of advisers, has come under increased scrutiny in recent weeks following questions about his links to operators of new tollway oasis franchises. The revamp of the oases is a showcase project for the Blagojevich administration.”

On May 15, 2005, the Sun-Times reported that the accusations by his father-in-law that Blagojevich doled out jobs for campaign contributions had “resulted in dozens of grand jury subpoenas being sent to the governor’s office, his unpaid advisers, agency directors and his top fund-raisers”.

Among those subpoenaed for documents, sources told the Times, were “Blagojevich’s biggest money men, Christopher Kelly and Antoin “Tony” Rezko.”

On May 20, 2005, less than a month before Obama bought the mansion, the Tribune reported that Resko, “has had a business relationship with First Lady Patti Blagojevich for eight years, the governor’s office acknowledged Thursday.”

Six months before Obama bought the strip of land from Rezko’s “wife” to enlarge his yard, on August 28, 2005, Natasha Korecki reported in the Sun-Times that, “there’s so much corruption to investigate in the Chicago area, the FBI is adding manpower.”

Robert Grant, FBI Special Agent in Charge, told the Times that he had reorganized the bureau to add a third public corruption squad, giving Chicago the largest corruption unit in the country, even bigger than those in New York and Los Angeles.”

“The “fashion show” was chaired by Rita Rezko, co-chaired by the Governor’s wife, Patti Blagojevich, and Michelle Obama was a special guest that day, according to Merriner.

Two weeks after the “fashion show,” on November 17, 2006, the Sun-Times reported that Blagojevich’s wife Patti got nearly $50,000 from a real estate deal in late 2002 involving Rezko.

In terms of dollar amounts of campaign contributions directly from Rezko in Illinois, the top four earners were, the now deceased President of the Cook County Board, John Stroger, Blagojevich, Chicago Mayor, Richard Daley, and Obama — in that order.

Rezko was the head of Stroger’s campaign finance committee at the same time that he served on Obama US Senate finance committee. 

When it came time for Stroger’s reelection campaign, in the midst of the erupting Rezko scandals in the media, on April 8, 2005, the Tribune reported that Stroger “has selected beleaguered businessman and political powerbroker Antoin “Tony” Rezko as one of the honorary chairs of his campaign fundraiser next month.”

Stroger appointed Rezko’s wife Rita to the Cook County Employee Appeals Board, which hears cases filed by fired or disciplined workers, at a part-time salary of $37,000 a year.

According to documents filed in the Rezko corruption case, this was Rita’s sole income when she supposedly came up with a $125,000 down payment and secured a $500,000 mortgage to buy the $625,00 lot next to Obama. Less than a year after Obama bought his strip of land, Rita sold the rest of the lot to attorney Michael Sreenan, and made a profit of more than $50,000.

On February 27, 2007, the Sun-Times pointed out that Obama’s “new neighbor, Michael Sreenan,” had contributed $5,000 to Obama’s campaigns. Less than a year after buying the lot, Sreenan put it up for sale for $1.5 million in October 2007.

Of course John Stroger will not be answering any questions about corruption, or any other matter, because he died on January 18, 2008. His former chief of staff and godson, Orlando Jones, will not be talking either because he was found dead of self-inflicted gun wounds in September 2007, “just as a corruption inquiry targeting him was heating up,” according to a September 7, 2007 report by CBS News channel 2 Chicago.”

Christopher Kelly dies of apparent suicide, September 12, 2009

“Christopher Kelly, who recently plead guilty to kickback schemes, with strong ties to Rod Blagojevich, Tony Rezko and
ultimately back to Barack Obama, is dead. From the Chicago SunTimes, September 12, 2009.

“Key Blagojevich adviser Christopher Kelly dead”

“Christopher Kelly, a key figure in the federal corruption investigation of former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, is dead, sources said.

Christopher Kelly, 51, of Burr Ridge, was once the master of Blagojevich’s lucrative campaign fund and the “go-to” guy in the ex-governor’s administration.”

“Kelly was found at 7:01 a.m. by his family, according to a report given to the Cook County Medical Examiner. He was pronounced dead at 10:46 a.m., sources said. Kelly died of an apparent “aspirin overdose,” a law enforcement source said.

Just days ago, after pleading guilty to being involved in an illegal kickback scheme involving O’Hare Airport and his company, BCI Commercial Roofing, Inc., Kelly said he was under pressure from federal prosecutors to cooperate in their corruption probe of Blagojevich.”

Christopher Kelly death investigated as homicide, September 13, 2009

“Kelly dies of possible overdose
Authorities say death may be suicide but are investigating it as homicide”

“Kelly, 51, who was to report to federal prison officials this week to start serving an 8-year sentence, died Saturday at Stroger Hospital in what authorities said was a possible suicide from an over-the-counter medication. An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday, and police in Chicago and south suburban Country Club Hills are conducting a death investigation.

Kelly’s death ended a tumultuous year in his life. He twice pleaded guilty to federal charges. He was estranged from his wife. And he faced serious financial problems, partly due to gambling debts. But Kelly indicated he was not going to turn on Blagojevich despite pressure from prosecutors.”

“A street-smart businessman who used connections and savvy to make millions, Kelly parlayed his wealth into power before becoming a member of Blagojevich’s “kitchen cabinet” of advisers. He had been at the former governor’s side through much of his political life since he ran for governor.”

“The Cook County medical examiner’s office said Stroger Hospital officials told them that Kelly apparently died of an overintoxication of salicylate, a drug used in anti-inflammatory and pain relief medications such as aspirin.

Authorities said Kelly was in his 2007 Cadillac Escalade in the parking lot of a lumber yard at 173rd Street and Cicero Avenue in Country Club Hills — a few miles from his Markham office — Friday night when he began vomiting. Sources said a girlfriend of Kelly’s drove him to nearby Oak Forest Hospital of Cook County. The Escalade remained there Saturday afternoon, guarded by police.”
