Yesterday, July 26, 2012, we learned that NC had the second largest  initial claims for unemployment in the nation.

“The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending July 14 were in California (+26,244), North Carolina (+11,948), Georgia (+8,372), Alabama (+4,148), and Oregon (+3,019)”

Today the news is even bleaker.

From the NC Dept. of Commerce July 27, 2012.

“Unemployment Rates Increase in 84 Counties in June”

“North Carolina’s statewide unemployment rate (not seasonally adjusted) was 9.9 percent in June. This was a 0.4 of a percentage-point increase from May’s revised rate of 9.5 percent, and a 1.0 percentage-point decrease over the year.

Over the month, the unemployment rate increased in 84 counties, decreased in 11 and remained the same in five. Thirty-nine counties had unemployment rates at or below the state’s 9.9 percent rate.

Scotland County recorded June’s highest unemployment rate at 17.6 percent, 0.6 of a percentage point higher than last month. Graham County had the second-highest rate at 15.2 percent. Currituck County had the lowest unemployment rate at 5.3 percent, followed by Orange, 7.1 percent; and Chatham & Henderson,
7.3 percent.

The unemployment rates increased in all 14 of the state’s Metropolitan Statistical Areas (Metros). The Rocky Mount Metro had the highest unemployment rate in June at 13.2 percent. The Asheville & Durham/Chapel Hill Metros reported the month’s lowest unemployment rates at 7.9 percent, which increased 0.3 of a percentage point for Asheville and 0.5 of a percentage point for Durham/Chapel Hill. Raleigh/Cary followed at 8.0 percent.”

Mecklenburg County, mostly consisting of Charlotte, NC, the site of the 2012 Democrat Convention, had an unemployment rate increase from May to June of .3 to a rate of 9.9 percent. Adjacent county to the west, Gaston, went from 10.2 to 10.9 percent.  Guilford County, containing both Greensboro and High Point had an increase from 9.6 to 10.3 percent.

I am certain that Obama will portray this as utopian conditions.

I have noticed a lot of honest reporting from the Greensboro News and Record regarding the unemployment situation in NC in recent months. The Charlotte Observer on the other hand, recently endorsed Jim Pendergraph for congress and then after he questioned Obama the Observer retracted that endorsement. The latest unemployment data for NC was just released. First the Charlotte Observer article, which I had to really dig to find.

From The Vail Business Journal May 26, 2012.

“Charlotte region’s unemployment rate drops

By Celeste Smith, The Charlotte Observer, N.C.

May 25–The Charlotte region’s unemployment rate stayed below 10?percent in April for the second straight month, and it dropped significantly from a year earlier, according to figures released Friday by the N.C. Department of Commerce’s Division of Employment Security.

Unemployment in the Charlotte-Gastonia-Rock Hill metropolitan area declined to 9.1?percent from 9.6?percent the month before. The unemployment rate a year earlier was 10.6?percent.

Statewide, unemployment rates fell in April from the previous month in 93 of North Carolina’s 100 counties, including Mecklenburg, where the rate fell to 9.0?percent from 9.5 percent. Rates are not seasonally adjusted.

Mecklenburg’s unemployment rate beat the state average of 9.1?percent. But more than 43,700 people remained unemployed in the county.

Some surrounding counties fared better than Mecklenburg in year-to-year comparisons, said UNC?Charlotte economics professor John Connaughton. For example, the 1.7?percent drop in Catawba County’s unemployment rate compared to April 2011 exceeded Mecklenburg’s 1.2?percent.

But Connaughton said that’s also a sign the region’s economy is improving.

“We’ve gotten a lot better in the last year,” Connaughton said.

“What it’s suggesting is, after the great financial collapse and the impact on a lot of our manufacturing (sector) in the surrounding counties, those things seem to be getting back on track.”

Statewide, April 2012 unemployment rates declined in 88 counties compared with last April. Rates increased in 11 counties, and remained the same in one.

“Looking at over-the-year numbers, most of North Carolina’s counties have lower unemployment rates which is certainly positive,” said commerce Deputy Secretary Dale Carroll.

For the second straight month, unemployment rates decreased in all 14 of the state’s metro areas, according to the state data.

Connaughton predicts the Charlotte-Gastonia-Rock Hill metro area will beat the state’s rate in upcoming months.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re below 8?percent by the end of the year. Not that that’s great, but it’s a lot better than the last couple of years,” Connaughton said.

“We’re starting to see some job growth come back, and that’s really important, and it’s been consistent.””

From the Greensboro News Record May 26, 2012.

“By DONALD W. PATTERSON
Staff Writer”

“Unemployment rates fell in 93 of North Carolina’s 100 counties in April , including those in the Triad .

That’s good news, obviously.

Yet, analysts said, those numbers mask a deeper, more troubling trend — the shrinkage of the state’s labor force.

Over the last year, only the Piedmont Triad and the Research Triangle have posted gains in their labor pools, which represent those people who have jobs or are actively looking for work.

The 12-county Piedmont Triad economic development region saw its workforce grow by 0.3 percent in the past year. Granted, that’s a small increase, but aside from the Triangle, the other five regions of the state experienced declines in their labor pools during that period.

“Although the drop in the unemployment rate is unquestionably a positive sign, we should not read too much into this as a measure of the state’s long-term recovery,” Allan Freyer , a policy analyst with the N.C. Budget & Tax Center in Raleigh , wrote in his April jobs report. “Much of the mathematical drop in the unemployment rate is simply due to the decrease in the labor force in most of these regions across the state.”

Freyer said the unemployment rate can drop when job seekers become discouraged and stop looking for a job.

“We’re seeing troubling signs of a two-tier recovery in the state,” his report said. “ … Regions like the Triangle and the Piedmont (are) growing their labor force and employment base, while the rest of the state gets left behind.”

In the past year, Freyer said, the Piedmont Triad’s employment has grown by 1.5 percent. In the Triangle, it’s gone up 1.9 percent.

“The biggest areas (in the state) are the ones getting the most job growth,” Freyer said in an interview. “The Piedmont Triad region is growing because its metro areas are growing.”

In the Greensboro-High Point metropolitan area, for example, manufacturing jobs increased over the past year by 2,300 , or 4.5 percent. In the Winston-Salem metro, leisure and hospitality jobs rose by 800 , or 3.9 percent. In the Burlington metro, government jobs jumped by 5.5 percent, or 400 jobs.

Even so, six area counties still have unemployment rates at 9 percent or higher.

The rate in Guilford County , for example, dropped to 9.1 percent compared with 10.2 percent in April of 2011 .

Area rates ranged from 8.5 percent in Forsyth to 10.4 percent in Rockingham .

Statewide, the unemployment rate stood at 9.1 percent in April .

Compared with last December , the state has added nearly 26,000 jobs, but 85 percent of the gain occurred in January .

“Over the last two months, North Carolina has essentially netted no new jobs,” John Quinterno , a principal with South by North Strategies , a research firm in Chapel Hill , wrote in his monthly jobs report. “While North Carolina’s job market began 2012 moving in a positive direction, it has failed to maintain that momentum.”

In all, more than 421,000 North Carolinians were unemployed in April . That’s nearly twice the number without jobs in December 2007 , when the recession started.

In addition, just 56.6 percent of the state’s total population had a job last month.

“This suggests that the state’s economy is creating just enough jobs to keep treading water,” Freyer’s report said. “(That’s) nowhere near enough to keep up with population growth and replace those jobs lost during the recession.””

http://www.news-record.com/content/2012/05/25/article/job_growth_stalls_across_state

Were they writing about the same state?

Greensboro is the largest city of the Triad. Raleigh  the largest city of the Triangle.

Compare the following exerpt from the News Record to the Observer article:

“Over the last year, only the Piedmont Triad and the Research Triangle have posted gains in their labor pools, which represent those people who have jobs or are actively looking for work.

The 12-county Piedmont Triad economic development region saw its workforce grow by 0.3 percent in the past year. Granted, that’s a small increase, but aside from the Triangle, the other five regions of the state experienced declines in their labor pools during that period.”

On May 18, 2012 Raleigh WRAL was noted for their honest reporting on NC employment.

For what can only be described at best as misleading reporting on the employment situation in NC I award the Charlotte Observer 4 Orwells.

Greensboro is the hometown of Edward R. Murrow. I believe that Mr. Murrow would be pleased with the News and Record for this report.

The Democrat Convention will be held in Charlotte, NC.

Jim Pendergraph, who entered the race for NC 9th Congressional District Republican Congressman late (Feb. 2012), will be in a runoff election with the other top vote getter Robert Pittenger on July 17, 2012. This despite the efforts of the Charlotte Observer to discredit him after endorsing him.

From the Charlotte Observer May 9, 2012.

“District 9: Runoff looms for Pittenger, Pendergraph

Pittenger, Pendergraph lead in chase for Myrick’s seat”

“Republicans Robert Pittenger and Jim Pendergraph, whose feuding dominated the crowded primary in the 9th Congressional District, are poised to take it into a July 17 runoff.

Buoyed by strong showings in the Charlotte suburbs, Pittenger led the 10-man field with about 33 percent of the vote. Pendergraph had about 25 percent.

While each fell short of the 40 percent needed to win outright, both lapped the 10-man field. Edwin Peacock, a former Charlotte city council member, ran third with about 12 percent. State Rep. Ric Killian had about 10 percent. No one else had more than 7 percent.

The eventual winner will be the favorite in November against Democrat Jennifer Roberts and Libertarian Curtis Campbell in the heavily Republican district that includes most of Mecklenburg County and parts of Iredell and Union.

The candidates are running for the seat being vacated by Republican U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick of Charlotte. It’s open for the first time in 18 years, and only the fifth time in six decades.

“I think we brought a clear, conservative message to the voters,” Pittenger said Tuesday night. “They know that I will stand for those values in the future. … This has been a grass-roots effort with lots of involvement. It hasn’t just been Pittenger.”

Comparing spending

But only two House candidates in the country spent more of their own money. Outpacing his rivals, the Charlotte real estate investor and former state senator gave his campaign $1.1 million.

Pendergraph, a Mecklenburg County commissioner and former sheriff, has run as Myrick’s hand-picked successor. He was the target of a barrage of ads by Pittenger.

“He spent a million and a half dollars, and I’m nipping at his heels,” Pendergraph said Tuesday night. “If I had spent (that) I’d be really disappointed if I don’t blow out all the candidates. … Everything he has said, he either has stretched the truth or out-and-out lied.”

Pendergraph, under attack from Pittenger and a super PAC that supports him, struggled to compete financially.

Through mid-April, he’d raised $173,000, less than three rivals. Last week he loaned his campaign $20,000, saying, “The well’s near dry.”

Pittenger defended his ads, which have flooded mailboxes as well as airwaves.

“Of course Mr. Pendergraph has pandered and flip-flopped,” he said. “We’ll show the distinctions between the two of us.”

Pittenger, a social as well as fiscal conservative, won support from voters like Carter Brydon, a south Charlotte Republican. He said he liked Pittenger’s “big-time Christian values.””

“Last week Pendergraph stirred controversy when he said he had “reason to be suspicious” of President Barack Obama’s claim that he was born in the U.S. and thereby eligible for the presidency. His remarks on the “birther” issue prompted the Observer to retract its endorsement for the first time.

It also appeared to cost him some votes.

“I was going to go with Pendergraph (until) the birther stuff,” said Richard Ellis, a south Charlotte Republican. “That’s kind of silly. I think it’s an issue that’s been put to rest.””

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/05/08/3227717/district-9-us-house-runoff-looms.html

Mr. Ellis, you have been lied to by the mainstream media.

Jim Pendergraph, I applaud you.

When in the Charlotte area in recent years, I heard nothing but good things about Jim Pendergraph. Obviously the Charlotte Observer had the same opinion before Pendergraph questioned the messiah, Obama (see quote above).

“But we give our nod to Mecklenburg County commissioner Jim Pendergraph. We believe he has broad appeal and understands the district’s needs best. He speaks with a strong conservative voice but seems pragmatic in how he would represent the district – focusing on constituent needs and getting things done.”

Read the history of Jim Pendergraph being endorsed by the Charlotte Observer and then attacked by them.

“Why is Obama now employing private attorneys to keep his name on state ballots, despite compelling evidence that he is not a natural born citizen?…Citizen Wells

“Pendergraph’s long experience as a public servant, especially his 12 years as Mecklenburg County sheriff, would be an asset. He understands the value of service to constituents and responding quickly and efficiently to their cares and concerns.”…Charlotte Observer

Since the Charlotte Observer endorsed Jim Pendergraph, rescinded the endorsement when Pendergraph questioned Obama’s birthplace and attacked Jim Pendergraph and Sheriff JOe Arpaio for simply doing their job and asking simple questions, I feel it is my duty as a natural born citizen of the United States, eligible for the US Presidency and a native born citizen of North Carolina and resident of NC, to do the job that the Charlotte Observer and most members of the mainstream media have failed to do. That is, explain to you why Jim Pendergraph and Sheriff Joe Arpaio have questions and concerns about Obama’s birthplace, birth certificate, eligibility for the presidency and other records.

I am going to make this so simple that anyone can follow it.

01. First and very important. Barack Obama, unlike John McCain, has never presented a legitimate long form certified copy of his birth certificate. This
includes the numerous court challenges to Obama.

02. Various entities placed images of a COLB (Certification of Live Birth) on the internet purported to be Obama’s but never proven to have originated from
the State of Hawaii. Even if Obama had personally presented one of these in court, it would have been thrown out as conclusive proof of Hawaiian birth. There were 4 ways of getting one of these when Obama was born and one could be born abroad.

03. Numerous challenges to Obama’s eligibility have been made in court beginning in 2008. These challenges have demanded proof of Obama’s eligibility and most have requested legitimate copies of Obama’s birth certificate, college and other records. None of these challenges has been pled before higher courts
or the Supreme Court of the US.

04. Irrespective of where Obama was born, per the accepted definition of Natural Born Citizen when the US Constitution was written, Obama is not eligible
because he did not have 2 US citizen parents.

05. Obama has employed numerous private and government attorneys to avoid presenting documents and proof of eligibility.

06. In 2008 Obama employed Robert Bauer of Perkins Coie and other private attorneys to assist him in keeping his records hidden. Obama hired Robert Bauer as White House counsel in 2009.

07. Since taking the White House, Obama has used numerous US Justice Department Attorneys, at taxpayer expense, to assist him in keeping his records hidden.

08. Recently Obama has employed private attorneys to assist him in eligibility challenges. Remember, in 2008 when John McCain was challenged on his
eligibilty, he promptly presented a legitimate birth certificate.

09. Tim Adams, an election official who worked in the elections office in Hawaii in 2008 signed an affidavit stating that there was no birth certificate for
Barack Obama in HI in 2008.

10. The new Governor Of Hawaii, Neil Abercrombie, soon after taking office, stated that he could find no birth certificate for Obama.

11. In April 2011, an image purporting to be the long form birth certificate for Barack Obama was placed on WhiteHouse.com. Most experts immediately
determined that it was a clear fraud. All one has to do to dismiss this image as evidence is to read the bottom of the image:

“I certify this is a true copy or abstract of the record on file in the Hawaii State Department of health.” Alvin T. Onaki, Ph.D.

Abstract: “The term abstract is subject to different meanings, but in a legal sense, it refers to an abbreviated history of an official record.”

Or abstract disqualifies it.

12. Sheriff Joe Arpaio, at the request of hundreds of his constituents, assembled a cold case posse, at no cost to taxpayers and performed a professional investigation, seeking the truth about Obama’s birth certificate and other records. The image placed on WhiteHouse.gov was determined to be a forgery and Obama’s selective service application is believed to be a forgery as well. Sheriff Arpaio is currently attempting to get the Selective Service Administration to cooperate.

13. Documented and reported here, Obama lied on his Illinois Bar Application. Obama omitted his other names and his numerous parking tickets that he later paid when running for president.

The above are just the highlights, the proverbial tip of the iceberg. Any rational, concerned, believer in the US Constitution and rule of law would have doubts about Barack Obama by being aware of these facts.

How many of these facts were reported by the Charlotte Observer?

The damning information about Obama may be in his college records and Selective Service Records.

“we give our nod to Mecklenburg County commissioner Jim Pendergraph. We believe he has broad appeal and understands the district’s needs best. Despite the fact that what the Charlotte Observer has done in Orwellian, Joseph Goebbels fashion to demonize Jim Pendergraph and Sheriff Joe Arpaio after praising Pendergraph in an endorsement, disgusts me, I would like to thank the Observer for providing one of the clearest examples of media bias and “1984” thought control. I began quoting Orwell regularly in early 2008. Images of “1984” and Nazi Germany abounded. The similarities to the Obama camp were and are striking .

For example, note how the Charlotte Observer first praises Jim Pendergraph in their endorsement.

From the Charlotte Observer April 28, 2012.

“But we give our nod to Mecklenburg County commissioner Jim Pendergraph. We believe he has broad appeal and understands the district’s needs best. He speaks with a strong conservative voice but seems pragmatic in how he would represent the district – focusing on constituent needs and getting things done.

He did sign a no-tax increases pledge and said he would focus on spending cuts. But he said he would consider taxes if “every other way possible” was tried and failed to reduce the deficit and get the economy going.

Pendergraph gained national exposure as sheriff for his leadership in the 287(g) program, which allows local officials to enforce federal immigration laws. He was the first sheriff east of California to use the controversial program. But his views on immigration reform are more nuanced. He favors both enforcement and reforms that would allow the immigrant workers that the country needs to be able to work here. The issue should be dealt with in a “common-sense” way, he says.

Pendergraph’s long experience as a public servant, especially his 12 years as Mecklenburg County sheriff, would be an asset. He understands the value of service to constituents and responding quickly and efficiently to their cares and concerns.

This race has been marred by negative advertising, largely aimed at Pendergraph from GOP challenger Robert Pittenger, a former state lawmaker. Those ads and the sniping back and forth at debates distracted attention from the candidates’ records and positions. The people in the 9th district deserved better. We hope the candidates will give them better in the waning days of this primary season. If not, voters should remember that in the voting booth.”

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/04/28/3205731/pendergraph-strongest-pick-in.html

Next, after Jim Pendergraph mildly questions Obama.

From the Charlotte Observer May 3, 2012.

“What a run for Republican Jim Pendergraph. After winning the Observer’s endorsement in his bid for Congress, he has done nothing but embarrass us and himself.

By buddying up to one of America’s more hateful egomaniacs and then joining with fringe “birthers” to question President Obama’s citizenship, Pendergraph has contradicted much of what he told the Observer’s editorial board in his endorsement interview last month. As a result, we have lost faith in him, and urge voters to consider Edwin Peacock or Ric Killian in the 9th Congressional District race.”

“Then he rallied in Huntersville with Maricopa County (Ariz.) Sheriff Joe Arpaio, a Melvillian character on a never-ending crusade against Latinos. The only thing that energizes Arpaio more than stroking his ego is profiling Hispanics. The U.S. Justice Department found Arpaio led “a pervasive culture of discriminatory bias against Latinos” and one expert in the report said Arpaio led the worst racial profiling in U.S. history.

Pendergraph pandered further this week by saying he has “reason to be suspicious” about whether President Obama was born in the United States. “… Generally when there’s smoke, there’s got to be fire somewhere,” he said, even as he acknowledged “I haven’t seen the facts.”

It all gives one the sense that Pendergraph will say whatever a given audience wants to hear, if it will help him get elected. That makes how he would act in Congress a mystery.”

From “1984” by George Orwell.

“The next moment a hideous, grinding speech, as of some monstrous machine running without oil, burst from the big telescreen at the end of the room. It was a noise that set one’s teeth on edge and bristled the hair at the back of one’s neck. The Hate had started.

As usual, the face of Emmanuel Goldstein, the Enemy of the People, had flashed on to the screen. There were hisses here and there among the audience. The little sandy-haired woman gave a squeak of mingled fear and disgust. Goldstein was the renegade and backslider who once, long ago (how long ago, nobody quite remembered), had been one of the leading figures of the Party, almost on a level with Big Brother himself, and then had engaged in counter-revolutionary activities, had been condemned to death, and had mysteriously escaped and disappeared. The programmes of the Two Minutes Hate varied from day to day, but there was none in which Goldstein was not the principal figure. He was the primal traitor, the earliest defiler of the Party’s purity. All subsequent crimes against the Party, all treacheries, acts of sabotage, heresies, deviations, sprang directly out of his teaching.”

I happened to witness some reactions to Jim Pendergraph questioning Obama and the Charlotte Observer discrediting him. Though not as vehement as some in “1984”, they were just as party programmed and automatic.

Scary.

The Charlotte Observer, by hiding the truth about Obama and by attacking those courageous Americans attempting to bring the truth about Obama to light, has become an embarassment to the state of NC, the nation and all lovers of constitutional truth.

The Charlotte Observer endorsed Republican congressional candidate Jim Pendergraph and then after Pendergraph questioned the messiah, Obama, they rescinded their endorsement and attacked Pendergraph and Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who is doing his job, unlike the Obama lackeys at the Observer.

Make no mistake about it. The Charlotte Observer has written lies about Jim Pendergraph and Sheriff Joe Arpaio and insulted millions of concerned Americans who still cherish and obey the US Constitution.

April 28, 2012: Sheriff Joe Arpaio campaigns with and endorses Pendergraph.

“With his primary campaign for Congress entering what he called the short road, Republican Jim Pendergraph on Saturday drew support from controversial yet
popular Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Arpaio spoke at a Pendergraph campaign rally that drew 100 people to Lancaster’s BBQ in Huntersville ahead of the May 8 primary.

Arpaio and Pendergraph described each other as friends.

Both men have drawn questions over the years about their views on immigration. As Mecklenburg’s former sheriff, Pendergraph launched the 287(g) program that
identifies illegal immigrants in the jail. He took a federal job to increase state and local coordination of immigration laws.

Arpaio, the sheriff of Maricopa County near Phoenix, is known for a hard-line approach toward immigration. The U.S. Justice Department has accused him of
violating the civil rights of Latinos.

He said when Pendergraph was with the federal government, he praised the operations in Maricopa. Arpaio never forgot his help.

Pendergraph said Arpaio is “trying to protect the citizens of Arizona because the federal government won’t.” He called on the federal government to enforce
the immigration laws.

Arpaio also said he hopes Congress will “finally look at (illegal immigration) and do something about it.”

Arpaio drew questions about his investigation into the authenticity of President Barack Obama’s birth records.

He said his probe shows the documents were forged, and criticized other elected leaders and law enforcement for failing to look into the issue. Obama and
others have long refuted claims the documents are false.”

May 2, 2012: Jim Pendergraph, “I have reason to be suspicious,”

“Pendergraph ‘suspicious’ of Obama’s birthplace”

“Few people are as publicly identified with the so-called “birther” issue as Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who has his own “posse” on the case.

Last weekend, Arpaio shared his skepticism about President Barack Obama’s birthplace – and his eligibility for the White House – when he was in Charlotte
campaigning for Republican congressional candidate Jim Pendergraph.

So what does Pendergraph, and for that matter other 9th District candidates, think of Obama’s legitimacy?

“I have reason to be suspicious,” he said. “But I don’t know. I haven’t seen the facts. I think there’s a lot of smoke and generally when there’s smoke
there’s got to be fire somewhere.”uth
Obama sought to put questions about his birthplace aside last year when he released a birth certificate from Hawaii. For many people, that settled the issue.

Even Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus last year declared the issue a distraction and said, “the president was born in the United
States.”

But in March, Arpaio’s group declared the birth certificate a forgery.

While Pendergraph said he’s not sure it is, he said, “I’ve been around long enough to know people can forge anything.””

May 03, 2012: Charlotte Observer rescinds endorsement of Pendergraph.

“What a run for Republican Jim Pendergraph. After winning the Observer’s endorsement in his bid for Congress, he has done nothing but embarrass us and
himself.

By buddying up to one of America’s more hateful egomaniacs and then joining with fringe “birthers” to question President Obama’s citizenship, Pendergraph has contradicted much of what he told the Observer’s editorial board in his endorsement interview last month. As a result, we have lost faith in him, and urge voters to consider Edwin Peacock or Ric Killian in the 9th Congressional District race.

Not infrequently, the Observer endorses candidates with whom we do not agree on all, or even most, of the issues. That is because we consider the views of
the constituents the candidate seeks to represent. We often endorsed Rep. Sue Myrick using that logic. When choosing among 10 Republicans in the 9th District race, we considered not only the extent to which we agreed with the candidate but the extent to which he represented the views of the conservative 9th District. We seek a candidate with integrity, intellect, common sense and sincerity, and whose views are not so extreme as to not reflect his district.

Pendergraph came off as a decided moderate in our endorsement process, a comportment not entirely inconsistent with his work the past year-plus as a
Mecklenburg County commissioner. He sounded reasonable on immigration, saying that illegal immigrants who are already here should be allowed to stay here. He supported comprehensive immigration reform and allowing current illegal immigrants to pay some penalty and then have a path to citizenship.

He also talked about his disdain for the polarization that plagues Washington today. He said balancing the budget would require something like the Bowles-
Simpson plan, and specifically said taxes may have to rise as part of a comprehensive plan to erase the deficit. “Let’s be honest – it’s not going to be
without pain for all of us,” he said.

How sensible.

Then he rallied in Huntersville with Maricopa County (Ariz.) Sheriff Joe Arpaio, a Melvillian character on a never-ending crusade against Latinos. The only
thing that energizes Arpaio more than stroking his ego is profiling Hispanics. The U.S. Justice Department found Arpaio led “a pervasive culture of
discriminatory bias against Latinos” and one expert in the report said Arpaio led the worst racial profiling in U.S.

That makes how he would act in
Congress a mystery.

Peacock, Killian strong

Republican voters have at least two better choices in Tuesday’s primary. Former Charlotte City Council member Edwin Peacock brings a thoughtful, moderate
approach to issues. He seeks to solve problems rather than be paralyzed by partisanship. And state Rep. Ric Killian brings broad experience in public office
and the military. A colonel in the Army Reserve who has spent significant time in Afghanistan, Killian understands security matters. He is earnest and
forthright and would bring a sensible conservatism to Congress.”

“N.C. unemployment improves to 9.7 percent in March”

“Despite Ashe County’s early year jobs slide, the unemployment numbers across the rest of the state improved between February and March according to seasonally adjusted data released by the N.C. Department of Commerce last week.

N.C.’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell by .2 percentage points to 9.7 percent from February’s revised rate of 9.9 percent. The number of unemployed also decreased over-the-month, falling by 12,092 to 451,657.

“Since the start of the year, the rate has dropped three consecutive months,” said N.C. Department of Commerce Deputy Secretary Dale Carroll. “Over the year figures continue to show improving numbers with the private sector gaining more than 37,000 jobs. Finding North Carolinians work through our programs and services available at our local offices remains our priority.”

The number of people employed, seasonally adjusted, increased by more than 4,000 to 4,228,180 between February and March, and by 63,805 since March 2011. Year-over-year, the NC unemployment rate fell by .7 percent, from 10.4 percent in March 2011.

Over the month, the number of persons unemployed declined by 12,092, or 2.6 percent. The civilian labor force was relatively unchanged at 4,679,837.

Nationally, March’s unemployment rate decreased by .1 percent from February to 8.2 percent. The number of persons unemployed fell by 133,000, or 1 percent, while the civilian labor force declined by 164,000, or .1 percent.”

Charlotte NC Democratic Convention 2012, Obama on ballot?, Governor Beverly Perdue lauds decision, Hillary Clinton runs?

Charlotte NC Democratic Convention 2012, Obama on ballot?, Governor Beverly Perdue lauds decision, Hillary Clinton runs?

“Why has Obama, for over 2 years, employed numerous private and government attorneys to avoid presenting a legitimate birth certificate and college records?”…Citizen Wells and millions of concerned Americans

Charlotte, NC has been chosen as the site for the 2012 Democratic Convention. I wouldn’t bet on Obama being on the ballot. The question is, will Hillary Clinton be too tainted by the Obama scandals to be a viable candidate?

From the Charlotte Observer February 1, 2011.

“Charlotte finally grabbed the brass ring today, beating out three rivals for the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

“I am thrilled to make sure you are the first to hear some very exciting news,” First Lady Michelle Obama said in an email to key Democrats. “Charlotte is a city marked by its Southern charm, warm hospitality, and an ‘up by the bootstraps’ mentality that has propelled the city forward as one of the fastest-growing in the South.

“Vibrant, diverse, and full of opportunity, the Queen City is home to innovative, hardworking folks with big hearts and open minds. And of course, great barbecue.

The DNC picked Charlotte over Cleveland, Minneapolis and St. Louis.

Charlotte leaders hailed the selection.

“We’re honored that the Democratic National Committee chose Charlotte,” Mayor Anthony Foxx said in a statement. “We have an unmatched opportunity to show the world what a beautiful, energetic, innovative and diverse city we are building in Charlotte.”

Gov. Bev Perdue called the decision “fantastic news for North Carolina regardless of your political party. A national political convention is a keystone event that will boost North Carolina’s economy, while showcasing Charlotte and our state to the nation and the world.”

The convention is expected to bring more than 35,000 delegates, media and other visitors to the city and generate more than $150 million in economic benefits. It also will bring international attention to a city that has long aspired to be “world-class.”

Foxx had called the convention “a game-changer, bringing new jobs, new spending and new businesses to our city, region and state.”

The convention will start on Labor Day, Sept. 3, 2012.

DNC Chairman Tim Kaine called it “a tough choice.”

“This process offered some great choices,” he said in an email to the DNC.

Republicans announced last May that their convention would be in Tampa the week before Democrats convene in Charlotte.

The convention will bring President Obama to a city and county that helped him become the first Democratic presidential candidate in 32 years to carry North Carolina and drive a wedge into an often solid-red South.

His 100,000-vote margin in Mecklenburg County helped him carry North Carolina by a scant 14,000 votes out of 4.3 million.”

Jeff Katz show, WFTL, Talk radio, Fort Lauderdale FL, Broward County, WBT Talk radio, Charlotte NC

”This above all: to thine ownself be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.”…William Shakespeare “Hamlet”
“Journalism died in 2008.” …Sean Hannity

NC has lost a voice for truth and FL has gained one.
Jeff Katz was the voice for truth in NC. Katz spoke out against Barack Obama and warned what an Obama administration would do to the country. He did not tap dance around issues and was not politically correct. He was a breathe of fresh air in the midst of the mainstream media and the likes of the biased pro Obama Charlotte Observer. Jeff Katz and WBT radio parted ways about a year ago.

Citizen Wells, May 12, 2008
“I caught part of the Jeff Katz show today, Monday, May 12. 2008. Jeff just mentioned that if Obama wins the presidency, it may be the end of the country. I could not agree more. Jeff is bringing up aspects of Obama that the MSM is not covering. I commend Jeff Katz for the job he is doing.”
On December 4, 2008, the Citizen Wells blog got the following responses after the parting of the ways between Jeff Katz and WBT.

“I think Jeff Katz is the best thing to ever happen to talk radio in the Southeast…

He tells you what the leftist mainstream media will not…”

“People have the right to know about the truth. It is unfortunate most Americans are too dumb to think for themselves and hear the truth. Too bad Katz had to be fired. We just live in a society that is too politically correct. I’m going to talk about Obama and I always seek the facts before I judge. Too bad the idiots of America don’t see it that way.”

“I totally agree with you Citizen Wells…..Jeff Katz was the ONLY news person in the Charlotte area brave enough to tell the truth or even look for the truth concerning Obama. I listened to Jeff every day…loved his show…someone should have some explaining to do about this.”

Here is Jeff’s bio from the site:

“Jeff Katz grew up in the blue collar Oxford Circle neighborhood of Philadelphia.

He worked on his first political campaign at the age of 12. Much to his parents’ chagrin, Jeff decided to become a police officer in Philadelphia’s rough and tumble public housing projects.  After several years of dodging bullets, he traded his badge and gun for headphones and a microphone.

Jeff went on to host award winning talk shows on some top radio stations in some of America’s great cities; KNEW, San Francisco, WRKO, Boston, KNXT, Las Vegas, WPHT, Philadelphia, and most recently WBT, Charlotte.

He has appeared on many network television programs including; FOX News/The O’Reilly Factor, MSNBC/Chris Matthews, CNN/Morning Edition, ABC/Nightline, and CNN/Showbiz Tonight.

TALKERS Magazine has consistently ranked Jeff Katz as one of the 100 most important Talk Radio hosts in America. Radio & Records named Jeff an “All-Star” when the readers of R & R voted him one of the 5 best local hosts.  Jeff also won the Achievement in Radio Award for “best talk show host.”

Jeff believes a successful Talk Radio host must be actively involved in the local community and plans to do just that now that he’s here in South Florida.  In the past, he has served as the Vice-Chairman of the California State Council on Developmental and Disabilities.  Jeff was also a Court appointed Special Advocate for children in the Superior Court system. He served on the Board of Advisors for the North Carolina Institute on Constitutional Law and is a Staff Officer for the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Twice saluted by the President of the United States for his volunteer service and honored by the Marine Corps League and Shomrim Society (A Fraternal Organization for Jewish Police Officers of the New York City Police Department), Jeff is very involved in his local community.

Mike Huckabee, Huckabee book tour, Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, Fox show, A Simple Christmas, Huckabee 2008 presidential run, Huckabee running in 2012?, Citizen comments for Huckabee, Republican candidate

“Oh, that God the gift would give us
To see ourselves as others see us”… Robert Burns

Mike Huckabee is on a 60 city tour to promote his new book, ”  A Simple Christmas.”  Friday, November 13, 2009, Governor Huckabee was at Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Charlotte, NC to sign copies of his book. I shook hands with Mr. Huckabee and shared a few brief comments with him about this blog.

MikeHuckabeeWells1

To Governor Mike Huckabee from the Citizen Wells blog, concerned Americans across the nation.

Mr. Huckabee, you do seem to be a very nice man, there is a consenus of agreement on that, but you have offended many concerned Americans with your uninformed opinion on Obama’s eligibility issues and your stance on illegal aliens and other issues. Upholding the US Constitution and rule of law is the highest priority of the good people reading this blog as well as millions of other Americans. These are hard working, sincere Americans that do not fit neetly into compartments of birthers and right wing conservatives. This blog, like the tea party movement, represents Americans of all political parties, economic strata and religious persuasions. Your Pelosi like insults of those questioning Obama and his natural born citizen status were not taken lightly. I suggest you do some homework and listen. Even Lou Dobbs of CNN, the Communist News Network, acknowledged that the suspicious COLB presented by the Obama camp was just a piece of paper that referred to another piece of paper.

Last year Fox was the only network presenting any realistic coverage of issues surrounding Barack Obama. Sean Hannity and then Glenn Beck asked probing questions that the MSM ignored or glossed over. However, I critized Fox then for not covering controversial issues surrounding Obama. Some of those issues have now been addressed and still Fox has been hands off on the eligibility issue. Bill O’Reilly has bragged about grilling Obama in an interview last year, and perhaps, compared to the MSM, he did. However, many well informed Americans, including myself, believe O’Reilly gave Obama a free ride.

So Governor Huckabee, it is somewhat understandable why you were ill informed regarding Obama’s eligibility. However, ultimately, you should not have insulted well informed, concerned Americans who rightfully believe that Obama is not a natural born citizen. It is not too late. Below are comments from the good Americans of this blog. Some retired military, some with legal educations, but all genuinely care about this country.

“Huckabee might be a nice man but he is still a hypocrite. You can’t condone ILLEGAL immigration and open borders during a time of war while there are laws on the books going unfunded and unenforced. I would have more respect for him if he advocated compassionately deporting the ILLEGAL immigrants ASAP and hitting the employers with hefty fines while simultaneously changing the immigration laws so that more are allowed to enter every year but from the back of the line. If the families don’t want to be separated, the families go too until they get back in. No more anchor babies. Also, the radical Islamic jihadists are the first to go and it is just fine if the door hits them in the butt on the way out!

Oh, don’t forget that Huckabee is on record saying Obama is a citizen and born in Hawaii. Huckabee is either complicit in covering for Obama’s crimes via silence or too incomprehensibly negligent to be a candidate for the office of the POTUS and not have a legal research team to definitively determine his opponents’ eligibility when in question as obvious as it was. Remember, the BC is not the issue; it is the dual nationalities which Obama publicly admitted to before the election.”

“Great points, Pixel Patriot. Although there are
plusses with Huckabee, I did hear him go down
the complacent trail of citizen and Hawaii. I’m not hitching my wagon to anyone who does that.
Ba-bye Huck.”

“Huckabee was not my candidate in 2008 and I do not know if I could ever
vote for him.
However, he is intelligent and articulate and is not going away.
He appears to have opened his eyes on the Obama Camp and
he may be trainable.
Does he have the scruples he appears to have?
We will find out.”

“At the moment, my litmus test for the salvageableness of any office holder is the eligibility issue. If Huckabee today starts asking questions about o’s background and eligibility for office, I MIGHT move him from my “I want you our of our government immediately” list to my “okay, maybe not immediately, but you had REALLY better mean this” list.

Realistically, since, at the moment, no potential candidates seem to pass my test, I may have to revise my standards. Sigh. lol Story of my life.

I dunno, if we keep settling for the lesser of evils, will we ever get the good (with warts and all, of course)?”

I did NOT like his stance on illegal aliens.”

Then,he did the Wal-Mart thing with illegals..pushing for DREAM ACT…etc…
Snake-oil salesman in my book.”

“Huckabee is a likable guy; soft-spoken and not apt to “go off the deep end,” but not POTUS material IMHO.

If he is complicit in the eligibility issue as many of you have said, then I cannot trust him to lead.

The “lesser of two evils” vote never appealed to me…that expression just irks me.

I am looking for the man/woman who is a proponent of the “greater good.”

They have to be more than willing to “talk the talk;” they will have to demonstrate to me they can “walk the walk.”

We need to vote in those who are willing to “fight” for the Constitution to be upheld, and the Declaration of Independence to be respected.
I am certain that will be easy to determine from what we already know.”

“I’m not interested in Mike Huckabee in any way, shape, or form.

Firstly, he is much too soft spoken. He sounds like a therapist. A person either has leadership qualities, or he doesn’t. Mike doesn’t.

Secondly, he is a typical republican.

Thirdly, he looks like Gomer Pyle.

Fourthly, I support Sarah Palin.”

“@ Citizenwells:

Heh, sorry. Sometimes I can get carried away.

Since the 2008 elections. I find that my patience is very thin for certain republicans. What really bugs me the most is that the GOP seems incapable of producing conservative leaders. I am very bothered by what seems to be the GOP’s intention to run the exact same failed candidates from 2008 as if they have learned nothing at all.

If they try to nominate McCain, Romney, or Huckabee again, I think my head may explode.

From my standpoint, Sarah Palin was the only bright spot from 2008.

Ideally, what I would like to see in a candidate is a true conservative fighter, and I really mean a fighter. Mike just comes across as too passive to me. Perhaps I am wrong.”

“Huckabee is likable but disingenous to me. What specifically turned me against him was his denial about Obama’s ineligibility to be president.

The man or woman who would be our next president will do so if He/she runs on the platform of restoring America to the republic under the Constitution, promising to challenge Obama’s sealed documents, tightening the borders, repealing the health care plan –if Senate passes it and redefining America as a Christian/Judeo country. In my observations I think Palin has the guts to do this. It also may well depend upon who runs with her and if she stays with the Republicans or creates a third party.”

Palin and DeMint or Bachmann are my Top Choices and we shoudl start organizing for them strating NOW.
Forget the DISRUPTERS which is what The Huckster is right along with his running mate McCain.

We need someone with Strong Conservative Principles that clearly has the character and the guts to Stand Firm, communicate clearly and take decisive actions. Someone that we will follow without doubts or REGRETS.

Palin, DeMint, Bachmann NO BODY ELSE right now. Even Romney is too weak as a Conservative even though I like him economically, but he has disappeared and that isn’t good.
Romney should run for Kennedy’s Senate seat and maybe in 2020 run for President”

Mike Huckabee, are you going to be a Statesman or a Politician?

We want our representatives to be nice and exercise protocol to the extent that it protects the American public.
