Al Franken, MN senate election, Minnesota judge declares uncounted absentee ballots open to public inspection, January 8, 2010, Norm Coleman Republican opponent, Recount and court battle 312 votes

The MN senate race between Democrat Al Franken and Republican Norm Coleman smelled from start to finish. Recounts and a court decision handed Al Franken the senate seat with a margin of 312 votes.

From the Star Tribune, January 6, 2010.

“Minn. judge grants access to rejected ’08 ballots”

“ST. PAUL, Minn. – Six months after Democrat Al Franken tardily joined the U.S. Senate, a Minnesota judge has declared that uncounted absentee ballots from the drawn-out 2008 election should be open to public inspection.
The New Year’s Eve ruling from Ramsey County Judge Dale Lindman granted a media outlet’s request to inspect absentee ballots rejected as flawed, potentially giving a new glimpse into a Senate race that stretched well into 2009. Franken outlasted Republican incumbent Norm Coleman in a recount and court battle and won by 312 votes.
The ruling has its limitations and could be appealed. And there doesn’t appear to be any legal avenue for Coleman to change the election’s outcome.
For now, the decision applies only to Ramsey County, Minnesota’s second most populous. KSTP-TV and other Hubbard Broadcasting Corp. affiliates sued for access to the ballots there and have begun the legal process in Douglas, Olmsted and St. Louis counties, said Mark Anfinson, an attorney for the stations. No political interest is a party to the lawsuit.
Anfinson said he hopes Minnesota’s other 86 counties voluntarily defer to Lindman’s ruling. The goal of the ballot examination is to fully understand what worked and what didn’t in Minnesota’s election so policymakers can consider law changes, he said.
But even if as many as 10,000 uncounted ballots are eventually opened, it won’t be as simple as adding to each candidate’s tally.
“There’s no doubt that under any scheme of absentee ballot regulation some of those would be rejected,” Anfinson said. “There’s considerable effort that’s going to have to be invested in understanding why certain ballots weren’t accepted and others were.”

Rejected absentee ballots were a point of contention in the protracted election. Franken’s lawyers fought to get them re-examined and have some included in the count. During an election trial, Coleman’s attorneys tried to get more added by arguing that standards were inconsistently applied, with some counties taking a tougher stand than others.
For absentee ballots to count in Minnesota, voters must be registered, have a qualified witness, mail their signed ballot envelopes back before to Election Day and not cast a replacement ballot at the polls.”

We have so much on our plates already. However, this procedural catastrophe, which I consider to be chicanery, should be investigated further.

Thanks to the great commenter and patriot Joyce.

  2. One of our commenters the other day said there is a National Silent Prayer for our country every night at 9:00PMEST. This issue in Minn. is a good one to pray for. Also for Scott Brown in Mass.

There’s a reason why JFK wanted to destroy the Unions, they are corrupt. Obana is in bed with the Unions, lobbyists, bankers, Clintons, and more. He is in the process of destroying American piecemeal. I have recently noticed that his army of blogbots, and they are vicious, are responding to posts in the foreign papers, in every imaginable language. They threaten, harass, intimidate until the entire screen is loaded with their nonsense. They will do anything to attempt to counteract “truth.” They will even send horrible emails to the posters themselves “through” the internet newspaper staff. We’ve been collecting some of them. An interesting theme occurs, not unlike the Sally, cpr1200r, and “Anonymous” posts on other sites, or make up generic names. One of their main causes consists of accusing the poster of not posting even “one fact.” That theme seems to be their most effective because it creates a maze of B.S. smoke screens equivalent to quick sand because “their” facts don’t exist, but the poster’s facts do. Honorable individuals usually out of courtesy (big mistake) may try to respond and/or substantiate their postings by way of explanation: MY ADVICE: Don’t. Ignore them because they can’t stand being ignored. They should be blocked off these sites immediately so they are deprived of the forum to communicate.

Those Obama blog bots are on the payroll and that payroll is vast. In fact, you have no idea how sophisticated that network of bloggers actually is. THEY ARE one of our biggest problems in the upconming election.

Those Obama blog bots have a vested interest in getting paid and looking good to their leader Barack Hussein Obama II. They are suck ups and they are also masters at diversion. That is, they divert attention and RESOURCES away from good places for GOP leaders and supporters to post genuine comments.

They make it bad for all of us and they have changed the rules of engagement in the “open communication” departments.

PLEASE DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THEM. They are a cancer. They have the power to eat us up.

Some of the Obama Blogbots sayings are repetitious, here’s a few: ***He’s [Obama] damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. ** What’s the president to do? *** go cry us a mountain about your damn [plug in] *** you cry and moan about [plug in] *** get a life ***where are the facts in your post, you haven’t used one fact [of course, they are referring to “their” facts, not the poster’s] ***loser! ***you’re [the GOP] are a bunch of losers ** He’s [Obama’s] just cleaning up George Bush’s mess

Obama has lost the public relations war, the same public relations war that he boasted won him the election. Nevermind that he employed young voters by the million, who have been indoctrinated in our stupid school systems to believe that America is bad and the majority of its citizens are poor and should be supported through “redistribute the wealth” programs. Anyone against this Communist President is immediately branded “racist.” Nevermind, that the real racist is in the Oval Office.

Question about the Mass. Senate race: Will Joseph Kennedy (I) be a “spoiler”? And, if so, whose votes will he be siphoning off?

  6. Patriot Dreamer: The other day, SueK was thinking he would siphon off Coakley’s votes. I said it would be Teddy’s penance!!! Ha, ha!!

  7. Rep. Paul Gillmor, R-Ohio, was found dead in his apartment Wednesday, a Republican leadership aide says.

According to the AP story, the cause of death is unknown. He is survived by his wife and five children.

RightAngleBlog had the news first in the Ohiosphere, but several other blogs have picked up the story.

Gillmor was one of the few Congressman to truly embrace the blogsphere and actively maintained a blog of his own.

    Godspeed, Mr. Gillmor…

    twe, I hope so!

  9. Hi PD and twe,

I believe he’ll be Croakley’s spoiler because those who haven’t seen the debates, or aren’t paying much attention, will see ‘Kennedy’ on the ballot and fill in the black oval. Sheeples.
    John Feeny,

You asked where the one-point margin came from. I saw it on the BrownBrigade web site but darned if I can find it again.

Suffice it to say that it’s closer than the Dems ever thought it would get. the 7% of undecided Independents (or, ‘unenrolled’) may just make a huge difference.

  13. Hello everyone, just got a minute of sit down time and wanted to tell you guys I just spoke to Nathan Deal’s office in DC. The young man I spoke to says they have not recieved a reply from O as of yet…the letter was sent Dec. 1st….No signers except Deal….they do not know if they will publish the letter 202-225-5211…….God bless you all

  14. Jonah-

Isn’t it nice to see all of the LIBERAL Senators starting to JUMP SHIP. This isn’t because they want to retire, but because they have finally figured out that they will probably BE RETIRED by the public this year. I personally believe that there is even a chance that REPUBS might even retake control. Sadly it won’t be that we voted for them because of their PARTY affiliations, rather OUT OF NECESSITY to weed out the LIBERALS. Have a good day!.

    Another commenter talking about Croakley…..

It’s difficult to judge what a person will be like as a Senator (or any other job, really) before they have it.

Judging by her record, though, all I can say is this: a Sen. Martha Coakley might actually make Ted Kennedy look good.

I’m a Massachusetts voter, and I’m voting for Scott Brown on the 19th.

Maybe someone else has linked to this but reading it all the way through is VERY IMPORTANT. Remember when California government took a 10% increase in automatic payments from wage earners??? I thought, this could not be possible without legislation or full voting – right?? Well, guess what, starting in 2010 – our federal government has increased automatic deductions from ALL wage earners (and retired military) which, of course, you will get back with your next year’s tax returns. Get this, it is virtually a loan to the feds and NOT A WORD was spoken about it…. they just did it. Personally, I think someone many threads ago recommended changing your W4s to 9 deductions to eliminate the feds from getting the infusion of cash all year long. Who knows… next April, they could just say…… we are sorry but we cannot afford to return this money to all.

Nice to hear! Do you know anything regarding the rules of Congress? I ask this because I once read that if even only one member of Congress files a complaint in which they allege that they suspect criminal wrongdoing, or election fraud has been perpetrated by someone in either in their midst, or at a higher level Congress is bound by the rules to convene a complete investigation. I am wondering if this is a valid rule today. It would seem that Deal’s letter could spark such an investigation.

This is the strategy. They want to hold onto their power at all costs. BO & pals are hoping that voters will blame individuals, but not the party. Get rid of these problematic individuals (such as Sen. Dodd), and they hope that they will be able to continue to control one or both houses of Congress. They don’t care about principles, they only care about winning and maintaining their power. We must stop the O machine in 2010.

Where U.S. Health Care Ranks Number One
Isn’t ‘responsiveness’ what medicine is all about?

Data assembled by Dr. Ronald Wenger and published recently in the Bulletin of the American College of Surgeons indicates that cardiac deaths in the U.S. have fallen by two-thirds over the past 50 years. Polio has been virtually eradicated. Childhood leukemia has a high cure rate. Eight of the top 10 medical advances in the past 20 years were developed or had roots in the U.S.

The Nobel Prizes in medicine and physiology have been awarded to more Americans than to researchers in all other countries combined. Eight of the 10 top-selling drugs in the world were developed by U.S. companies. The U.S. has some of the highest breast, colon and prostate cancer survival rates in the world. And our country ranks first or second in the world in kidney transplants, liver transplants, heart transplants, total knee replacements, coronary artery bypass, and percutaneous coronary interventions.

    From previous thread:

Guiliani says “Obama has turned the corner” on terrorism.

Obama hasn’t turned the corner on anything, because he is constitionally incapable of doing so. He has no corner. The corner he understands is “do as we say or else”.

Expect more surprises from the man who indeed has been cornered.

    God works in mysterious ways.

In Revelation he says that he doesn’t want us to be luke warm. He wants us either hot or cold. Well we’ve had enough socialism crap shoved down our throats and we are HOT now! Everyone keep praying at 9pm EST to restore our nation.

  22. Why isn’t the Deal letter public? Someone from his state, carmen, needs to FOIA. Something doesn’t smell right about this. Deal is playing people. Be very careful on this one. It smells like a set up.

  23. And remember to pray for Nathan Deal.

In reply to your comment I have to first say that I too was once a member of of the TEAMSTERS UNION. Fortunately I discovered their corrupt behavior, early on. Organised labor is part and parcel to the reason why our industries can no longer compete with foreign countries. Everytime you purchase a US built automobile you are also buying about $1500.00 worth of an autoworker’s healthcare insurance costs, etc. Now we are going to be forced to pay a lot more of it even if we don’t purchase a car. If we don’t we can be FINED, and /or thrown in jail, or both. Since this is to be collected by the IRS then it is probable that they will also have the power to seize any real estate, or personal property that you might own to compensate for your inability to pay for your GOVMT health care insurance. We could face some really hairy stuff early on. MMMSSS Pelosi said “We have never had a more open and honest government. LOL
