Barack Obama has no real experience in the  world of business.

Is anyone surprised at the failure and cost of the Obamacare website?

As Rush Limbaugh has stated, Obama is incompetent.

From Gateway Pundit October 18, 2013.
“Bombshell: Obamacare Website Company Was Fired by Canadian Government for Poor Performance”

“Oh well. It only cost $634 million.
The Canadian government fired the parent company of CGI Federal, the prime contractor for the problem-plagued Obamacare health exchange websites, last year for poor performance.

So it only makes sense that the Obama Administration would be working with them.
Heck, it’s not their money.”

“Canadian provincial health officials last year fired the parent company of CGI Federal, the prime contractor for the problem-plagued Obamacare health exchange websites, the Washington Examiner has learned.

CGI Federal’s parent company, Montreal-based CGI Group, was officially terminated in September 2012 by an Ontario government health agency after the firm missed three years of deadlines and failed to deliver the province’s flagship online medical registry.”

“Oh… And the company used 10 year-old technology to build the Obamacare website.
USA Today reported, via Guy Benson:”

Obamacare is increasing healthcare premiums in 45 states.

A 27 year old in Virginia will see an increase of over 252 percent.

And one of the biggest under reported Obama scandals is the skyrocketing deductibles under Obamacare.

From the Heritage Foundation October 16, 2013.

“Enrollment in Obamacare’s health insurance exchanges has proven to be a somewhat difficult process amidst technical glitches and delays. Aside from the issues associated with actually purchasing health care, once an individual gets a quote for health insurance on an exchange, is the premium higher or lower than before?

“Our research finds that for many states, the insurance on health exchanges will cost more than existing insurance. This study illustrates that the general experience for individuals shopping on the exchange is that of increasing premiums from what was available to them prior to implementation of the exchanges. Many families and individuals will face this reality as they apply for coverage, and the implications of experiencing sticker shock are important to consider if enough people choose not to sign up for coverage for various reasons.”

Individuals in most states will end up spending more on the exchanges. It is true that in some states, the experience could be the opposite. This is because those states had already over-regulated insurance markets that led to sharply higher premiums through adverse selection, as is the case of New York. Many states, however, double or nearly triple premiums for young adults. Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Kansas, and Vermont see some of the largest increases in premiums.”

From Politico October 16, 2013.

“Senate reaches deal to end shutdown, avert default”

“Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell will soon announce an agreement to reopen the government and avert default on U.S. debt, according to several sources familiar with the talks.
The leaders are expected to unveil the accord on the Senate floor at noon.

The House is prepared to move on the Senate’s bill first, sources say, a move that would clear a path to end the first government shutdown in 17 years and avoid an economy-shaking default on U.S. debt. House Republican leadership said there’s no decision yet on whether to move the bill first.
“No decision has been made about how or when a potential Senate agreement could be voted on in the House,” said Boehner spokesman Michael Steel.

It remains unclear when a final vote would occur in the Senate. If no senator blocks action there, that chamber could hold a vote before the House.
Sen. Ted Cruz, who led the crusade to dismantle the health care law in the government funding bill, declined to answer repeated questions from reporters Wednesday morning about whether he would block the deal.
But Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said he felt lawmakers were ready to end the fiscal crisis that has consumed Capitol Hill for more than two weeks.”

From the Rhino Times October 10, 2013.
“The federal government is shut down, but I have to admit I don’t miss it. According to Forbes, the shutdown only effects 13 percent of the federal government.

It appears that President Barack Hussein Obama is using his power as president to make the shutdown look as dire as possible. Not only are national parks closed, but in Florida the federal government has closed the ocean. Florida Bay, 1,100 square miles of ocean, is closed to fishermen. The US Park Police, which doesn’t have time to leave the bay open and let people fish, has rangers out enforcing the closure and making sure that people don’t fish.

It is incredible but along the same lines as closing the World War II Memorial, which is an open air memorial that normally people can visit 24 hours a day unassisted. There appear to be a couple of reasons for closing the memorial. One is that Obama seems to hate the military, and the other is because it is supposed to create bad publicity for the Republicans who, according to Obama, closed down the government.

The Republicans in the House offered a number of compromises, but the Democrats, who control the Senate, and Obama refused to compromise. The last compromise offered by the Republicans was to delay the individual mandate for Obamacare for a year. Obama already delayed the mandate for employers with over 50 employees, so some parts of Obamacare are negotiable.

According to Forbes, 80 percent of nonmilitary funding involves taking money from taxpayers and giving it away. These programs, such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, unemployment and disability, are not affected by the shutdown.

So 80 percent of the work of the government continues shutdown or no shutdown.

It seems that as most of what goes on in Washington, this shutdown is mostly just rhetoric. How bad can it be for nonessential government employees to go home? Most businesses sent their nonessential employees home a long time ago, if they hadn’t already been shown the door. The economy since 2008 has forced companies to get rid of deadweight to stay in business. While government has simply continued to grow.

A president who really cared about the American people would do everything he could as the chief of the executive branch to make the shutdown as easy on the American people as possible. It wasn’t the World War II veterans who tried to visit the World War II memorial that caused the shutdown, but they are among the ones paying the price because Obama has ordered the memorial to close. It takes more personnel to close the memorial than to leave it open.

The National Park Service not only closed Yellowstone, it locked guests in a hotel on the property. And when they were allowed to leave, the park service refused to allow the bus to stop at a privately operated facility in the park for a bathroom break. They were also denied the opportunity to get out of the bus and take photos of a herd of bison because the park rangers said they were not allowed to “recreate” on park property. Is refusing to let a group of senior citizens use restrooms on a two-and-a-half-hour drive really necessary because the House won’t do what Obama told them to do?

But Obama went one better on the government shutdown.

According to Congressman Tim Huelskamp’s office, a priest was denied access to a military chapel at Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay in Georgia. The priest has a contract with the Department of Defense to say Mass for Catholics on the base, but when he arrived to say Mass there was a sign on the door of the chapel that read: “Shutdown: No Catholic service until further notice.”

This is a coup for Obama because it allowed him with one blow to attack two institutions he has no use for – the military and the Catholic Church.
Unfortunately, that was not an isolated incident and priests have been told that they can be arrested if they perform Mass or hold other religious services on military bases.
So a military couple based overseas who want to have their child baptized risk arrest for doing so. Does that make any sense and is that what we want the federal government to be doing – shutdown or no shutdown.

It is clear from his actions that Obama has set out to punish the American people because he is mad with the Republicans in the House of Representatives.
He’s angry with the Republicans in the House because they will not allow him to do whatever he wants to do. Obama wants Obamacare and he wants all the money he can possibly spend. The Republicans simply said, “We’ll give you one, but you can’t have both.”

Obama is probably also mad because due to the shutdown he has suspended his weekly golf outings and that must be killing him.”

“Rising medical costs, “combined with the costs associated with the Affordable Care Act, have made it increasingly difficult to continue providing the same level of health care benefits to our employees at an affordable cost,””…UPS memo

“Can we stop calling ObamaCare the Affordable Care Act now?”…Guilford College student

We told you so.

Obamacare is causing huge increases in health care premiums as well as higher deductibles.

And some of the groups being hit the hardest are young people. The core of Obama’s support.

From Last Resistance October 5, 2013.
“Americans Shocked At Obamacare Premium Increases”

  • ““Obama promised would see $2,500 in annual savings as far as the eye could see…Between 2014 and 2022, the increase in national health spending (which the Medicare actuaries specifically attribute to the law) amounts to $7,450 per family of 4.” – Forbes
  • “The study says 27-year-old men in Nebraska will see a whopping 279 percent increase in premiums and 27-year-old women in Nebraska will get an also-shocking 227 percent increase in rates.” – watchdog.org
  • “Based on a Manhattan Institute analysis of the HHS numbers, Obamacare will increase underlying insurance rates for younger men by an average of 97 to 99 percent, and for younger women by an average of 55 to 62 percent. Worst off is North Carolina, which will see individual-market rates triple for women, and quadruple for men.” – Avik Roy

The above quotes are just three of many describing the premium increases average Americans will suffer under Obamacare. During his campaign, President Obama promised that families would save an average of $2500 a year under the affordable care act. However, for months, data has been pouring in, telling us otherwise. In addition to that, basic sense tells us that socialized medicine is a dangerous idea.

Despite all the evidence and the decades of history backing up the claim that Obamacare was a very bad idea, average, low-information Americans continued to allow themselves to be deceived. Now that Obamacare has officially hit the streets, those same Americans have become indignant about the cost increases.

On the Obamacare Facebook page, numerous people posted angry comments regarding cost increases:

  • I am so disappointed…These prices are outrageous and there are huge deductibles. No one can afford this!””

“What did these people expect? Are they living in an alternate universe where information is inaccessible? How do they go about their days without sussing even a modicum of factual information from the world around them regarding Obamacare?

This is just so sad. We are a country of empty-headed followers. King Obama issues edicts from on high, and we just eat it up like so much food. We are a peasant class. We have a King making false claims—otherwise known as telling lies—and we simply take him at his word, because we believe him to be benevolent.”

Great News!

The Rhino Times, formerly The Rhinoceros Times, is back in print in NC.

John Hammer, the editor, will continue to reveal the truth about local politicians as well as Obama, et al.

I met with John this morning and congratulated him.

Roy Carroll, a local real estate developer, is the new owner.

“Roy Carroll Takes On New Job”

“As the publisher of the new Rhino Times, a position I’m not yet completely comfortable with, I was asked to say a few words about the vision of our publication. First, let me assure my high school English teachers I will not be contributing weekly to the paper’s content.
I would like to emphasize that this is a new venture and regular readers of The Rhinoceros Times will see dramatic differences between that paper and the Rhino Times.”

“My job at the Rhino Times is not to manipulate the news but to give our seasoned staff the resources they need to produce a quality weekly publication that is hard hitting and also entertaining. I will not be dictating the day-to-day content of our paper, though at times I intend to toss John ideas on stories that I think might be interesting to our readers – just as anyone else has the right and is encouraged to do.

In the end, John will decide which stories to cover. I will not have any say when it comes to local political endorsements. I have made clear to the staff that they are to make endorsement decisions in a “vacuum” without outside influence, including from me. This includes my commitment to refrain from funding the campaign of any local candidate. I am not comfortable with the idea of the publisher of a paper that makes political endorsements also funding local candidates, so I will not contribute to any local political campaigns.”

From John Hammer October 3, 2013.

“President Barack Hussein Obama drew a red line in the sand and made it clear that if Syria used chemical weapons there would be reprisals. He then said that the US would attack Syria and that it would not be a pinprick. Then he decided he would ask Congress if it thought it was a good idea to attack Syria. Then he decided not to ask Congress and then he decided to essentially do nothing and let the Russians handle it by pretending to inspect.

So the next time Obama gives an ultimatum to a country is there any reason for that country to pay any attention to him? If he follows through the next time, the country will claim discrimination because he didn’t follow through on Syria.”

“Obama was never vetted by the press for a host of reasons, but a contributing factor was that once he appeared on their radar screens he was the apparent Democratic nominee and they didn’t want to find out anything bad about him because that might hurt his chances of beating the Republican in the fall.
What the Republicans should have learned is that they are not going to get a moderate elected president. The Republicans need to nominate someone so conservative that the mainstream media cringe when they have to say his or her name. The Democrats learned their lesson. Obama is not even close to being a moderate. He is as far left as any Republican even being considered is to the right.”

“One huge cause of the problems with Obamacare that seems to be somewhat lost in the current implementation is that nobody expected the Obamacare bill as it originally passed to become law. The normal route for a sweeping bill of this nature is for one house of Congress to pass a bill and then for the other house to pass a similar bill, and then there are endless negotiations between the two until they come up with something that both sides can pass. Later, revisions are made as the bill is honed into something workable.

Because in the midst of the Obamacare debacle the Democrats lost their filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, the only way to pass the bill was as it passed the first time with no amendments or changes. So the bill that is supposed to reform health care in the United States is unfinished and wasn’t read by the people who voted for it. The truth is they didn’t know what they were voting for but there was tremendous pressure to get it done because it was the only chance they had to pass the bill. The death of Sen. Ted Kennedy and the special election to replace him is what changed everything. No one expected Kennedy to be replaced by a Republican, ending the Democrats unchallenged rule in the Senate so quickly. Obama and the Democrats can’t admit that even they don’t want the entire bill to go into effect because they don’t have the votes to go back and amend it. So they are forced to support a law that they know is going to have to be changed, but the Republicans aren’t going to pass any amendments, so the Democrats are stuck defending a bill they know to be terribly flawed.

Obamacare as it is being implemented may be enough to put the final nail in the coffin of a struggling economy. It encourages businesses to hire people for less than 30 hours a week and avoid the cost of providing health insurance. It’s a no-brainer for small businesses that employ a lot of people in low-level positions, like restaurants.

We could become a part-time economy where it is typical for people to have two and three jobs. It is also going to be a huge drain on the economy because it isn’t going to be cheaper, as Obama promised, and the smart thing for young people to do is nothing until they need health care and then sign up.
Health insurance is a huge mess, but it’s hard to see how this is going to make things better.”
“The American people never find out what was really going on in a presidential election until long after the votes are counted. But now we are learning how Obama outwitted Mitt Romney and the Republican Party during the election. While Romney was campaigning in a traditional fashion, traveling around the country making speeches, Obama was doing the same, but he was also quietly working on two fronts that brought in enough votes to get reelected.
One was that Obama was using his power as president to buy votes. All presidents do this to a certain extent, but Obama took it to new levels in a number of areas, including food stamps and cell phones. A voter who just received an Obama phone is far more likely to remember to go to the polls and vote for the man who is responsible for providing that phone. Obama more than doubled the amount of money spent on providing Obama-phones to a staggering $2.1 billion. The same for food stamps. Obama increased the number of people on food stamps by 70 percent.”

“Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.”…George Orwell, “1984″

I began referring to Obamacare as a tax and control bill by at least March 26, 2010. It is certainly that.

But it is also another glaring example of Obama crony capitalism.

Obama rewarded his top 2008 industry contributor, lawyers and law firms, and one of his his largest crony groups, with no tort reform.

From Citizen Wells July 30, 2012.

“Doctor Shortage Likely to Worsen With Health Law”

“In the Inland Empire, an economically depressed region in Southern California, President Obama’s health care law is expected to extend insurance coverage to more than 300,000 people by 2014. But coverage will not necessarily translate into care: Local health experts doubt there will be enough doctors to meet the area’s needs. There are not enough now.

Other places around the country, including the Mississippi Delta, Detroit and suburban Phoenix, face similar problems. The Association of American Medical Colleges estimates that in 2015 the country will have 62,900 fewer doctors than needed. And that number will more than double by 2025, as the expansion of insurance coverage and the aging of baby boomers drive up demand for care. Even without the health care law, the shortfall of doctors in 2025 would still exceed 100,000.”

“The American Medical Association recognizes there are shortages in certain geographic areas and in certain specialties. Part of that is due to the aging population and a stagnant number of medical-school applicants.

But there are other significant reasons. They include the increasing costs of medical malpractice coverage, higher practice costs, lower insurance reimbursement rates and insurance-company restrictions resulting in less autonomy over how patients are cared for.”

“Cost of malpractice insurance forcing doctors to leave high-risk specialties

Lawyers benefit from huge damage awards”

“In New Hampshire, many physicians are leaving as malpractice insurance costs soar. Specialty physicians have experienced a 50 percent increase in premiums from five years ago. The average premium is now close to $100,000 for obstetricians and neurosurgeons.”

I was surprised and pleased to find the following article from CNN October 5, 2012.

“Health care act’s glaring omission: liability reform”

“But for all of the Obama administration’s work in creating this 906-page federal law, there is one glaring omission that could decrease the costs of health care and help relieve the upcoming physician shortage.

Medical liability reform.

How could the Obama administration create such a comprehensive overhaul of health care without addressing this issue? Although not a panacea for the health problems in the United States, the need for physicians to practice defensive medicine in order to avoid potential litigation has far-reaching consequences.”

“It’s a well-known fact that family medicine physicians and even obstetrician-gynecologists are giving up the practice of obstetrics because of the excessive cost of malpractice insurance and the fear of potential lawsuits.”

“So why hasn’t the Obama administration included medical liability reform in the Affordable Care Act? I suspect that it comes down to dollars. Not health care dollars or insurance dollars but campaign donation dollars.

According to OpenSecrets.org, since 1990, the American Association for Justice, previously known as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, has given 92% of its $36.8 million in contributions to Democrats.

The association is also a large contributor to President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign. It is opposed to malpractice tort reform, for obvious reasons, and I suspect that it may have played a significant role in the absence of malpractice liability reform in the Affordable Care Act.”

From Zero Hedge September 28, 2013.

“Barack Obama promised to fundamentally transform America, and when it comes to health care he has definitely kept his promise.  Thanks to Obamacare, health care spending is up, health insurance premiums are up, the number of hours Americans are working is down and employer-based health insurance is becoming an endangered species.  Of course employer-based health insurance will not disappear completely any time soon, but it has been steadily shrinking for over a decade, and Obamacare will greatly accelerate that decline. “

“And this is a huge reason why the shift from full-time work to part-time work in America has accelerated this year.  Obamacare creates an incentive for companies to have more part-time workers and less full-time workers.  In fact, almost all of the jobs that have been “created” by the U.S. economy in 2013 have been part-time jobs.

But it is incredibly difficult to try to support a family on a part-time job.  Sadly, the quality of our jobs continues to decline rapidly and only 47 percent of all adults have a full-time job in America today.  This is only going to continue to get even worse under Obamacare.

As a result of these trends, more Americans are going to be forced to go out and buy health insurance “on the individual market”.  When they do, they are likely to be in for a really nasty surprise

Andy and Amy Mangione of Louisville, Ky. and their two boys are just the kind of people who should be helped by ObamaCare. But they recently got a nasty surprise in the mail.

“When I saw the letter when I came home from work,” Andy said, describing the large red wording on the envelope from his insurance carrier, “(it said) ‘your action required, benefit changes, act now.’ Of course I opened it immediately.”

It had stunning news. Insurance for the Mangiones and their two boys, which they bought on the individual market, was going to almost triple in 2014 — from $333 a month to $965.

The insurance carrier made it clear the increase was in order to be compliant with the new health care law.”

California health care costs higher than reported, Obamacare impact, Produce price increases, $ 5000 deductible, College students already doubled tripled and more nationwide

“The cost of health insurance will climb from a range of $61 to $77 monthly to a range of $118 to $133 monthly, according to a memo sent from UNC President Tom Ross to the UNC Board of Governors. On an annual basis, most students will pay about $500 to $700 more in 2012-13, depending on the campus.”

“Mallette said the insurance increases are due to the health care usage of UNC system students during the past couple of years, plus federal regulations on preventive care and pharmacy services issued in March. The process is complicated, he said, by the new provisions of the Affordable Care Act.”…Charlotte Observer May 1, 2012

One cannot escape the lies from the Obama camp, mainstream media and low information voters.

I recently observed a pro Obamacare protestor touting the health care savings in California.

Since I am a well informed, high information voter I knew that was a lie.

For example.

From Forbes May 30, 2013.

“Rate Shock: In California, Obamacare To Increase Individual Health Insurance Premiums By 64-146%”

“Last week, the state of California claimed that its version of Obamacare’s health insurance exchange would actually reduce premiums. “These rates are way below the worst-case gloom-and-doom scenarios we have heard,” boasted Peter Lee, executive director of the California exchange. But the data that Lee released tells a different story: Obamacare, in fact, will increase individual-market premiums in California by as much as 146 percent.

One of the most serious flaws with Obamacare is that its blizzard of regulations and mandates drives up the cost of insurance for people who buy it on their own.

This problem will be especially acute when the law’s main provisions kick in on January 1, 2014, leading many to worry about health insurance “rate shock.””

“For both 25-year-olds and 40-year-olds, then, Californians under Obamacare who buy insurance for themselves will see their insurance premiums double.”

From the NY Times August 20, 2013.

“Tacking Health Care Costs Onto California Farm Produce”

“On a recent morning, Jose Romero pulled weeds from a row of lush tomato plants. Mr. Romero, 36, arrived at the field around 5 a.m. and worked until sunset. Like many of the other workers in the tomato field, he was surprised to learn that his employer, Mr. Herrin at Sunrise Farm Labor, would have to offer him health coverage, and that he could be asked to contribute up to 9.5 percent of his wages to cover the costs.

“We eat, we pay rent and no more,” Mr. Romero said in Spanish. “The salary that they give you here, to pay insurance for the family, it wouldn’t be enough.”

There seems to be widespread agreement among agricultural employers, insurance brokers and health plans in California that low-wage farmworkers cannot be asked to pay health insurance premiums. “He’s making $8 to $9 an hour, and you’re asking him to pay for something that’s he’s not going to use?” Mr. Herrin said.

The minimum compliant health plan for employee coverage under the new law will cost about $250 a month in California’s growing regions, according to insurance brokers, and includes a $5,000 deductible for medical care, although insurers cannot charge co-payments for preventive visits. “It’s unacceptable,” Mr. Herrin said of the cost.”

You read that right.

$250 a month for health insurance with a $5,000 deductible.

College students across the country saw huge increases in their health insurance beginning in 2012 directly attributed to Obamacare.

I have tried to report the reality of the economy and jobs situation in the US and my home state of NC.

Even though I write about and comment about politicians, I am pretty much apolitical.

After all, what happens in this country is about people, their families and their lives.

I was touched recently by this ad in Craigslist.

“IM LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO TAKE OVER PAYMENTS ON MY WHITE 2008 KIA SPECTRA. THE PAYMENTS ARE AROUND $225 PER MONTH. IT IS IN GOOD CONDITION WITH AROUND 80,000 MILES ON IT. I RECENTLY LOST MY JOB AND CAN NO LONGER MAKE PAYMENTS. MAKE A REASONABLE OFFER AND IT IS YOURS!”

This is not a statistic.

It is a real person who has lost a job.

I know and I am certain that you know people who have been affected by the job market and economy.

I would like to thank Zero Hedge for this article.

“What Bernanke Did”

“What Ben Bernanke did by not Tapering was expose the fragility of the US economy for all to see. His actions, Mises Institute’s Peter Klein explains in this brief clip, based on the premise that the US economy was not capable of sustaining any reduction in the $85 billion per month stimulus free-money, means once again “the economy is so dependent on artificial stimulation from the central bank… that the economy is in another artificial boom just like the artificial boom we have been trying to get out of.” Critically, for all those proclaiming the US as a “cleanest shirt,” Bernanke proved them wrong (and exposed the fallacy of data such as the unemployment rate and jobless claims as having any value – as we have explained).”

“Between 2009 and 2012, the federal government recorded the largest budget deficits relative to the size of the economy since 1946, causing federal debt to soar. Federal debt held by the public is now about 73 percent of the economy’s annual output, or gross domestic product (GDP). That percentage is higher than at any point in U.S. history except a brief period around World War II, and it is twice the percentage at the end of 2007. “…CBO September 17, 2013

Anyone who believes that the US
economy is healthy and has improved under Obama and the Democrats is some combination of the following:

Illiterate
Crazy
Sleeping under a rock.
Gullible
Liberal Democrat.

Ok I know, the last one was redundant.
This has always been and will always be a group effort.
