“Senate reaches deal to end shutdown, avert default”

“Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell will soon announce an agreement to reopen the government and avert default on U.S. debt, according to several sources familiar with the talks.
The leaders are expected to unveil the accord on the Senate floor at noon.

The House is prepared to move on the Senate’s bill first, sources say, a move that would clear a path to end the first government shutdown in 17 years and avoid an economy-shaking default on U.S. debt. House Republican leadership said there’s no decision yet on whether to move the bill first.
“No decision has been made about how or when a potential Senate agreement could be voted on in the House,” said Boehner spokesman Michael Steel.

It remains unclear when a final vote would occur in the Senate. If no senator blocks action there, that chamber could hold a vote before the House.
Sen. Ted Cruz, who led the crusade to dismantle the health care law in the government funding bill, declined to answer repeated questions from reporters Wednesday morning about whether he would block the deal.
But Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said he felt lawmakers were ready to end the fiscal crisis that has consumed Capitol Hill for more than two weeks.”

  1. OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO CUT FOOD STAMPS – “100,000 Affected in Utah (Video) Posted by Jim Hoft on Wednesday, October 16, 2013, 9:01 AM Can you say mass rioting? The Obama Administration are being told to stop the supplemental nutrition assistance program for the month of November. This will create a huge hardship on local communities… and cause possible rioting.”

FOX 13 Now reported: States across the country are being told to stop the supplemental nutrition assistance program for the month of November, pending further notice.

That’s according to a letter from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Fox 13 obtained a copy from the Crossroads Urban Center in downtown Salt Lake City. Crossroads says if Utah families don’t get food stamps, they’ll turn to the local food pantries, which are already strapped due to the government shutdown. Homeless people Fox 13 talked to, some who use SNAP, say losing food stamps would mean going hungry.

“This is going to create a huge hardship for the people we serve here in our food pantry,” says Bill Tibbits who is the Associate Director at Crossroads Urban Center. They posted a letter from the USDA on its Facebook page. It says in part, “in the interest of preserving maximum flexibility, we are directing states to hold their November issuance files and delay transmission to state electronic benefit transfer vendors until further notice.”

“What this means if there’s not a deal, if Congress doesn’t reach a deal to get federal government back up and running, in Utah about 100,000 families won’t get food stamp benefit,” says Tibbits. In other words, tens of thousands of Utah families may not be able to feed their children come November. People out on the streets like Richard Phillips says, “It could impact us and it’s going to cause problems because you’re going to come to find out that people are going to steal and do what they have to do to survive.”

  2. WILLIAM…

This one’s for you…..a friend sent me an email today telling me he bought a new truck…..he’s how he described the deal.

    Subject: Bought a new truck

    I bought a new Ford F250 Tri-Flex Fuel Truck
Go figure: it runs on either hydrogen, gasoline, or E85.
I returned to the dealer yesterday…
Because I couldn’t get the radio to work.
The service technician explained that the radio was voice activated.

‘Nelson,’ the technician said to the radio.
The radio replied, ‘Ricky or Willie?’

‘Willie!’ he continued and ‘On The Road Again ‘Came from the speakers.
Then he said, ‘Ray Charles!’, and in an instant’ Georgia On My Mind’replaced Willie Nelson.

I drove away happy with my modern marvel, and for the next few days,
    Every time I’d say, ‘Beethoven,’
I’d get beautiful classical music, and if I said,
‘Beatles,’ I’d get one of their awesome songs.

Yesterday, some guy ran a red light
And nearly creamed my new truck ,
But I swerved in time to avoid him.
    I yelled, ‘DUMB ASS!’
Immediately the radio responded with,” Ladies and gentlemen,
The President of The United States”

    Damn, I love this truck….

  3. This is horribly disgusting but business as usual. McConnell should be sent packing, but when he “brings home the bacon”……..
