NC Obama Democrat party God country and common sense, Charlotte sells soul to devil?, Democrats destroy jobs and economy boo God and Jerusalem

“Guilford (Large NC County) appears on it’s way to a third consecutive year with annual jobless rates in double digits. Economists say that likely hasn’t happened since the Great Depression.”…Greensboro News Record December 2, 2011

“Most college students are in the peak of health. Hence, covering their health care is usually a pretty easy thing to do. A number of colleges—particularly small, private liberal-arts institutions—offer their students what are called “limited-benefit” plans, which cover health expenses up to a defined cap, such as $10,000. Because expenses are capped, these plans are extremely inexpensive, with premiums ranging from $150-500 per year.

However, Obamacare prohibits capping insurance payouts, causing premiums to skyrocket. For 2013-2014, the law prohibits caps below $500,000 per year; after 2014, caps are banned entirely.”…Forbes June 5, 2012

“We tried our plan—and it worked. That’s the difference. That’s the choice in this election. That’s why I’m running for a second term.”…Barack Obama

My ancestral roots go back to the early 1700’s in NC and though my recent ones do not include participation in the NC Democrat Party, the old conservative Democrat Party of NC, which did not shun God, country and common sense, would have been easier to embrace.

This is not your father’s Democrat Party!

For example.

You have heard Barack and Michelle Obama and other democrats lie about job creation, inheriting a mess and blame George Bush.

The Democrats took control of both houses of congress in January 2007 and Obama took control of the White House in January 2009. A perfect storm of incompetence.

From the 2012 Democrat Platform.

“When President Obama took office, the economy was in the deepest economic crisis since the Great Depression. His Recovery Act represented the largest education investment since President Johnson, the largest infrastructure investment since President Eisenhower, the single largest clean energy investment ever, and the broadest tax cut in American history. It helped keep teachers, police officers, nurses, and firefighters on the job. It ensured that as we re-built our country, we bought American-made iron, steel, and manufactured goods wherever feasible, consistent with our international obligations. It helped the President stop the bleeding and reverse the free fall.”

“We’ve come a long way since 2008. The President took office in the middle of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression; that month 800,000 Americans lost their jobs – more than in any single month in the previous 60 years. On Day One, he took immediate action to stop the free fall and put Americans back to work. In the midst of the crisis, President Obama knew what Democrats have always known: that American workers are tougher than tough times. Since early 2010, the private sector has created 4.5 million jobs, and American manufacturing is growing for the first time since the 1990s.”

Let’s examine for a moment a microcosm economy, Greensboro, NC, the third largest city in NC, the home of UNCG, where Michelle Obama recently bragged about jobs and what they had done for college students.

In January 2007, when the Democrats took control of congress, the unemployment rate was 4.6 to 5.2 percent (looks like somebody has been “tweaking” the numbers).

In December 2008, after 2 years of Democrat control, the rate was 8.2 percent. In January 2009, when Obama entered the White House, the rate was 9.6 percent. Did the rate jump actually jump 1.4 percent in one month (to maybe help Obama)? Since the Democrats were in control anyway, who cares.

The rate for July is listed at 10.2 percent.

So, with the efforts of the Democrats beginning in January 2007 and Obama working with them beginning in January 2009, the unemployment rate went from 4.8 – 5.2 percent to 10.2 percent.

That is certainly change!

From the 2012 Democrat Platform.

“These values are why we enacted historic health care reform that provides economic security for families and enacted sweeping financial reform legislation that will prevent the recklessness that cost so many their jobs, homes, and savings.”

“They’re why we helped American families who are working multiple jobs and struggling to pay the bills save a little extra money through tax cuts, lower health care costs, and affordable student loans.”

“We’ve already made historic progress. States have more flexibility to raise standards and reform schools, more students are receiving grants and scholarships, and young adults can stay on their parents’ health insurance plans as they finish their education and enter the workforce.”

From Citizen Wells September 4, 2012.

“I just spoke with a young man a few minutes ago who attends Greensboro College, a private college in NC. He mentioned that his health care costs had just almost doubled. This insurance premium has been charged to your student account.”

Why the increase? “Our student health insurance policy premium has been substantially increased due to changes required by federal regulations issued on March 16, 2012 under the Affordable Care Act.”

“Student healthcare choice has been replaced with expensive ObamaCare mandates.”

“Registration cancellations rising at UNCG, A&T”

“UNCG about two weeks ago canceled the registrations of about 1,300 students because they had yet to pay their tuition bills — the highest number of cancellations since fall 2009, university officials said.””

“Amid chants of protest from about 100 students, the UNC Board of Governors this morning approved President Tom Ross’ proposal for tuition and
fee hikes over the next two years.”

“The cost of health insurance will climb from a range of $61 to $77 monthly to a range of $118 to $133 monthly, according to a memo sent from UNC President Tom Ross to the UNC Board of Governors. On an annual basis, most students will pay about $500 to $700 more in 2012-13, depending on the campus.”

It gets worse folks.

From Forbes June 5, 2012.

“Obamacare Increases Costs of College Health Plans by as Much as 1,112%”

“Last March, I wrote a detailed pieceon why Obamacare will dramatically increase the cost of insurance for young people. Yesterday, Louise Radnofsky of theWall Street Journal reported that some colleges are dropping their student health plans for the new academic year, because the new law increases the cost of those plans by as much as 1,112 percent. And no, that’s not a typo.

I just spoke with a young man a few minutes ago who attends Greensboro College, a private college in NC. He mentioned that his health care costs had just almost doubled. Of course I just searched for more information.

“Health Insurance Costs Skyrocket For College Students Due To ObamaCare”

“Can we stop calling ObamaCare the Affordable Care Act now?

A Young America’s Foundation activist forwarded an email from the Vice President for Finance at his school, Guilford College (Greensboro, NC), informing him that, “For the 2012-13 academic year, the annual cost of the student health insurance is increasing from $668 to $1,179. This insurance premium has been charged to your student account.”

Why the increase? “Our student health insurance policy premium has been substantially increased due to changes required by federal regulations issued on March 16, 2012 under the Affordable Care Act.”

Guilford College has been forced to raise their student premiums 76 percent, yet this administrator still insists on calling it the Affordable Care Act.

Seems a bit ironic, to say the least.

Guilford joins a long list of colleges raising their premiums. Virtually all current student insurance plans do not meet ObamaCare’s mandates, and Forbes reports colleges have been forced to drop their plans or raise their premiums rates as much as 1,112% (and no, that’s not a typo).

Most students like their current healthcare, but they can’t keep it.

In the email to Guilford students (available in full here), the VP of Finance lays out exactly why they were forced to hike costs:

“As a result, all collegiate student health plans with an effective date of July 1, 2012 or after must provide a minimum benefit of at least $100,000 per policy year, have no limits on benefits deemed essential by the Act, and provide a preventative care benefit with no deductible, co-pays or co-insurance. In compliance with these mandates, (emphasis added) the following changes have been made to the College’s student health insurance policy.

“For the 2012-13 academic year, the annual cost of the student health insurance is increasing from $668 to $1,179.”

For those who don’t understand insurance mandate regulation jargon, this means catastrophic health insurance plans (primarily covering accidents only) have been banned for students. Students, who often don’t need luxury plans, prefer lower cost policies with fewer benefits. This allowed for much more affordable premiums.

Student healthcare choice has been replaced with expensive ObamaCare mandates.

That’s why it’s not just happening at Guilford (a small liberal arts college with around 2,700 students). Some of the most egregious cost hikes include:

The State University of New York in Plattsburgh raised their premium from $440 per student to between $1,300 and $1,600;
Lenoir-Rhyne University (Hickory, NC) raised theirs from $245 to $2,507; and
· The University of Puget Sound (Tacoma, WA) raised theirs from $165 to between $1,500 and $2,000.
Young Americans are already dealing with record-smashing college debt and unemployment, and the Obama administration should answer for these added costs to students.

President Obama will be traveling to campuses across the nation this week trying to sell ObamaCare to young people. Students on campus–or any conservative leaders visiting campus–need to call the Obama administration’s bluff.”

Obama lies versus Obama reality.

From the front page of the Greensboro News & Record August 20, 2012.

“Registration cancellations rising at UNCG, A&T”

“UNCG about two weeks ago canceled the registrations of about 1,300 students because they had yet to pay their tuition bills — the highest number of cancellations since fall 2009, university officials said.

N.C. A&T is also seeing an increase in the number of students facing cancellation. The schools’ officials attribute their numbers to a variety of factors, including tuition increases and cuts and other changes in state and federal financial aid programs.

“Every lost soul is unacceptable to me, and it really hurts when we have to cancel that many registrations,” said Steve Roberson, UNCG dean of undergraduate studies.

By Friday, UNCG had managed to whittle that number to just 500, according to preliminary data.

But administrators are concerned about the large number of students who are having trouble paying this year.

UNCG Vice Provost Alan Boyette said recently that some students ran into problems because they did not apply for financial aid on time, or their financial aid had not yet been packaged. So, he expected that initial number would be reduced.

He said enrollment this year is “really unpredictable.” The university is gauging payments and registration on a near daily basis to get a feel for what the final number will be, he said.

“We think the timing is clearly related to the current economy,” Boyette said of the number of students paying late.

Sarah Carrigan, UNCG director of institutional research, said Friday that UNCG canceled 1,300 student registrations between July 31 and Aug. 8.

That’s an increase of about 500 over last year at that same time, she said.

As of Friday, about 800 of those students had paid to register again, Carrigan said.

A&T has also had a slight increase in the number of students who risk having their registrations canceled, said Akua Matherson, the university interim associate vice chancellor for enrollment management.

As of late Friday afternoon, the university was scheduled to cancel the registrations of 541 students, Matherson said.

That’s a 2.5 percent increase from last year, she said.

Those students had until the close of business Friday to make some kind of arrangement to keep their registration.

Staff from both universities spent much of the summer reaching out to students who were eligible to return to school but had not registered to find out what their problems are and to offer solutions.

More than 80 percent of A&T students qualify for need-based aid. Staff members have talked to families whose financial situations have changed, such as one parent losing a job.

“Some of our students are looking at some real challenges,” Matherson said.

Deborah Tollefson, UNCG financial aid director, has heard similar stories of parents’ stretched incomes.

She said that counselors steer students away from private loans.

Instead, they inform them of such options as federal loans, part-time campus employment and tuition payment plans if they are having trouble paying.

Tollefson said that UNCG has received a lot of late financial aid applications this year. Students who didn’t have to take out loans two or three years ago are now having to but are unfamiliar with the process, she said.

A&T had 10,590 students enrolled as of Wednesday, the first day of classes.

UNCG’s latest enrollment figures showed an enrollment of 17,800. Students there start classes today.”

When I first received notification about the alleged AP story about Occidental College releasing Obama’s transcipts, as I always do, I checked it out and found no reference to it with the Associated Press. I believe it was a clever diversion.

The question is, who created it.

The Obama camp is masterful at diversions and preemptively disarming controversies such as Obama’s drug use.

I believe this to be another example of attempting to disarm a story.

It is not going to work. The search for the truth will continue.

Here is some background on the controversy.

From the LA Times January 29, 2007.

“Occidental recalls ‘Barry’ Obama”

“U.S. Sen. Barack Obama is usually described as an alumnus of Columbia University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree, and of Harvard Law School.

But the Illinois Democrat began his undergraduate education at Occidental, and the 1,825-student liberal arts college in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles isn’t shy about claiming him as an alumnus for his two years there (1979-81) on full scholarship.”

“Obama records requests prove fruitless”

“On Friday, Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun-Times reported that she had asked Obama at a news conference: “Do your state senate papers still exist? If they do, just where are they? And would you ever intend to make them public to be responsive to some requests?”

Sweet wrote that he replied: “Nobody has requested specific documents.”

But the Chicago Tribune has reported that it “requested documents from his time in Springfield and never received a response.”

And Sweet wrote of her own paper, “The Chicago Sun-Times has also been asking about Obama’s papers.”

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1107/6821.html

As Obama began gaining in stature as a possible Democrat nominee, more questions were being asked about his past. Obama continued avoiding proving where he was born and providing records about his college years. He also minimized his contact with Tony Rezko, which was proven to be a lie during the Rezko Trial.

On August 21, 2008, attorney Phillip J. Berg filed a lawsuit requesting proof of Obama’s eligibility for the presidency and for copies of Obama’s records.

In Berg’s Motion for Expedited Discovery he requests:

“Any and all college applications and records, including but not
limited to Occidental College, Harvard College, Harvard Law
School, University of Chicago, Columbia and any other colleges
which Defendant Obama applied at;”

From the New American December 2, 2008.

“This story has gained credence, separating it from Internet rumors, because Obama has reputedly hired three law firms (firms, not lawyers) to make sure that
no one gets access to his birth records in Hawaii or his college transcripts from Occidental College and Harvard. (It is speculated that the transcripts will
show he applied for aid to foreign students.)”

“Alan Keyes, a presidential candidate of the American Independent Party, and Markham Robinson, a California elector, have now sued to see Obama’s birth
certificate (these men would definitely have legal “standing” to sue as plaintiffs in this case).”

Alan Keyes, et al attempt to subpoena Obama’s Occidental Records January 15, 2009.

Obama’s attorney.

The Fake AP article was dated April 1, 2009.

Snopes correctly debunks the article email as not originating from the AP and provides the following info.

“Barack Obama attended Occidental College in California for two years as an undergraduate from 1979-81 under the name Obama, not Soetoro (the latter is the surname of his Indonesian stepfather, Lolo Soetoro):

Jim Tranquada, Occidental’s Director of Communications, said: “Contemporary public documents, such as the freshman ‘Lookbook’ [a guide distributed to incoming freshman] published at the beginning of President Obama’s first year at Occidental, list him as Barack Obama. All of the Occidental alumni I have spoken to from that era (1979-81) who knew him, knew him as Barry Obama.””

http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/birthers/occidental.asp

FactCheck.org provided a very misleading if not false statement.

“Claim #15, foreign student aid. The claim that Obama got “foreign student aid” is untrue. That wild falsehood began as an absurd April Fools’ Day hoax in
2009, which we quickly exposed.”

http://factcheck.org/2012/07/obamas-sealed-records/

Wrong! Since FactCheck.org nor anyone else that I am aware of has seen Obama’s Occidental Transcripts, we do not know if he received foreign student aid. We only know that the alleged AP article was faked and that Obama continues to hide his records.

To this date Obama has used private attorneys such as Fredric Woocher and Robert Bauer to keep his records hidden.

More damning for Obama is that he has also used US Justice Department Attorneys, at taxpayer expense, to keep his records hidden.

Here is a list of some of the US Justice Department attorneys who have assisted Obama in keeping his records hidden. Their representation of Obama is a matter of public record. This list does not include the support staffs.

Many of the references to Obama’s birthplace leading up to 2008 stated that Obama was born in Kenya.

And recently we learned.

“Breitbart News has obtained a promotional booklet produced in 1991 by Barack Obama’s then-literary agency, Acton & Dystel, which touts Obama as “born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia and Hawaii.”

The booklet, which was distributed to “business colleagues” in the publishing industry, includes a brief biography of Obama among the biographies of eighty-nine other authors represented by Acton & Dystel.”

Next we will explore the type of full scholarship that Obama may have gotten to attend Occidental.

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command. His heart sank as he thought of the enormous power arrayed against him, the ease with which any Party intellectual would overthrow him in debate, the subtle arguments which he would not be able to understand, much less answer. And yet he was in the right! They were wrong and he was right. The obvious, the silly, and the true had got to be defended. Truisms are true, hold on to that! The solid world exists, its laws do not change. Stones are hard, water is wet, objects unsupported fall towards the earth’s centre. More PP, pedagogy platitudes from the Obama crowd, the folks who thrive on spending other people’s money.

From the Greensboro News Record July 8, 2012.

“Success comes down to a matter of degrees”

“UNCG officials say helping more people finish college will boost area’s economic vitality”

“Guilford County needs more people like Greta Germino . Lots of them.

Next spring, Germino — a 33-year-old single mom who dropped out of college at 19 — will finally graduate.

Getting a nutrition degree should help Germino financially.

“I decided to go back because I value education and I know you need a degree in this economy,” she said. “I could always make more money. Who couldn’t?”

Germino’s return to college also will help the local economy, provided that thousands of other Guilford residents join her in completing degrees they started but never finished.

Increasingly, economists, educators and business leaders have focused on the link between a community’s economic vitality and its college attainment rate.

Research shows that for every 1 percent a region improves its attainment rate, its per capita income jumps $763.

“It’s all about skills — who has them and who doesn’t,” said Dewayne Matthews , a vice president at the Lumina Foundation for Education in Indianapolis. “A lot of people knew that skills mattered, but it was not something that people focused on.”

Since the onset of the recession, that has changed.

And now that focus has come to Guilford County.

A group of UNCG officials want to significantly boost the county’s college attainment level in the coming years, a move they believe will significantly help the area’s struggling economy.

On Sept. 11 , they will call together 40 to 50 government, education and foundation leaders to look for ways to encourage people like Germino to go back to school and get their degrees.

“This is an economic thrust to help this community thrive,” said Steve Roberson , UNCG’s dean of undergraduate studies , who pushed the idea of the gathering. “We have to become known as a destination city for economic development. I don’t know any better way to do it.””

“Winners include such places as the Raleigh metro area, where 41 percent of residents have a college degree. The Charlotte region has a rate of 32.2 percent , which is about the national average for all metros.

But the Greensboro-High Point metro area, a three-county area that includes Guilford, Rockingham and Randolph counties, comes in at just 25.6 percent , well behind the rate for the nation and its two largest neighbors.”

“Initially, UNCG officials want local leaders to focus their efforts on Guilford County, which has a college attainment rate of nearly 42 percent , slightly above the national average.

Guilford’s rate far outpaces those of its metro partners, Randolph (22.3 percent) and Rockingham (21.8 percent).”

“Currently, Guilford has more than 67,000  people who started degrees but never finished college. That’s about 21 percent  of the work force.”

More college graduates will boost the economy of UNCG & other colleges. I am in favor of reality based education with real world based goals. However we are fundamentally funding college degree, ideological indoctrination mills.

What we need is less government and more entrepreneurs to create jobs.

The argument put forward in this article is flawed on several levels. First, and most hypocritical is their concern for people getting an education while they have spent like drunken sailors in recent years and raised both tuition and healthcare costs. I spoke to a UNCG student this morning who was just hit with the large healthcare cost increase on top of the tuition increase. He works and uses student loans to support his family. This is creating a hardship.

From Citizen Wells February 12, 2012.

“Amid chants of protest from about 100 students, the UNC Board of Governors this morning approved President Tom Ross’ proposal for tuition and
fee hikes over the next two years.

Ross’ plan would raise tuition by an average of 8.8 percent across the system and keeps increases below 10 percent on every campus.

UNCG’s in-state undergraduates would see a $423, or 7.5 percent, increase in tuition and fees under Ross’ plan. Trustees had sought an increase of 7.8
percent.”

“The state mandates that at least 25 percent of the money from the tuition dollars go toward financial aid for needy students. Some board members recently have spoken out about that requirement, saying it essentially calls for students, who themselves may be struggling, to subsidize the education of other students.”

“Welcome to the world of socialism, redistribution of wealth. In a way I am glad this is happening. A real world example of taking from the “rich” and giving to the “poor.””

“Obama spoke recently at UNC, The University of NC, and presented more of his Orwellian lies about education costs and helping students.

Obama and the Democrats have a problem in NC.

UNC system schools recently announced tuition increases.

The unemployment rate in NC is among the highest in the nation. Those about to  graduate face bleak prospects.

And despite Obama’s lies about Obama Care reducing the cost of health care, UNC students just found out that their health care insurance is increasing significantly.”

“On top of rising tuition and fees, those UNC system students who buy the university-sponsored health insurance plan will face steep premium increases in the next academic year.

The cost of health insurance will climb from a range of $61 to $77 monthly to a range of $118 to $133 monthly, according to a memo sent from UNC President Tom Ross to the UNC Board of Governors. On an annual basis, most students will pay about $500 to $700 more in 2012-13, depending on the campus.”

UNCG officials are urging people to graduate from college to boost the local economy. How does that square with the following.

From the Greensboro News Record June 18, 2012.

“It’s not often that our part of the world comes in first in anything . But economist Don Jud has found an example. And it’s a biggie.

In recent months, Jud says, the Greensboro-High Point metro area has far outpaced state and national averages for employment growth in goods production.

That means companies in Guilford, Rockingham and Randolph counties, which make up the local metro area, are hiring people to make stuff.

“That’s the best news I know,” Jud said.

But there’s just one problem: Jud and others can’t say with any certainty why we’re doing so much better than everyone else.

“I think I have spotted a trend,” said Jud, who defined goods-producing jobs as those in construction and manufacturing. “Why it is ongoing and how likely it is to continue, I really don’t know.”

Jud said that from April 2011 to April 2012, goods-producing employment in the area increased 6 percent. That compares to a 1.8 percent growth rate nationally and just 0.2 percent for North Carolina.

During those 12 months, Jud said, employment in the local metro has grown by 5,200 jobs, with more than 75 percent of that coming from the goods-producing sector.

Area people involved in economic development welcomed the surge.”

Recently I wrote about UNCG, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and other UNC state supported schools spending like drunken sailors and raising tuition. Here is another example. NC A&T is a UNC school also located in Greensboro, NC. Here is another example of questionable spending in the worst economy here since the Great Depression.
From the Greensboro News & Record print edition February 27, 2012.

“A&T debuts new website”

“A $ 400,000 grant funds redesign for vibrant, informative recruiting tool.”

” The new site (www.ncat.edu) launches today, and Martin said it clearly tells the Aggie story and will help the community to better connect and engage with the university.”

“The website was redesigned using $ 400,000 in grant money that helped pay for consultants that assisted university staff on the project.”

From the Greensboro News & Record 19, 2011.

“A&T trustees approve tuition hike”
“N.C. A&T students will see their tuition bills rise over the next five years under a plan the university’s board of trustees approved Friday afternoon.

A UNCG tuition and fee committee this week also recommended increases on that campus.

The tuition increases at A&T represent a 10 percent hike for undergraduates and 12 percent for graduate students.”

“Next year won’t be the last time A&T students feel the pain of a higher tuition bill. Under a plan to phase in increases, undergraduates will pay an additional $200 a year for another four years. Graduate students will pay an extra $300 a year during the same time period.

The UNC system has a 6.5 percent cap in place on tuition increases, but system leaders are allowing campuses this year to propose increases above that cap to help make up for money lost through budget cuts.”

““Literally, schools are in a position where we’ve got to figure out something else to do,” Akua Matherson, A&T’s assistant vice chancellor for budget and planning, told the trustees’ business affairs committee Friday morning in explaining the temporary lift on the tuition cap.

Matherson said the increases will help A&T maintain the level of funding needed to compete with its peer institutions.

The tuition money will generate nearly $5 million for the university. It will be invested in need-based financial aid, academic and student support, institutional support such as safety initiatives, and graduate assistantships.

Trustees unanimously approved the increases, but not without concern.

Once the increases kick in, trustee Pamela McCorkle Buncum said she would like to hear how they are affecting students.

She said she wants administrators to compile information such as how many are having to drop out to work and earn money for tuition.”

“Tuition would rise 10 percent for UNCG students next year according to a proposal the university’s tuition and fee committee presented Tuesday night to the Student Government Association.

In-state undergraduates would see a $660 increase in their bills next year — an extra $345 for tuition and $315 for fees, bringing total tuition and fees to $6,158.

The increase would generate $7.4 million, with half of it used to offset budget reductions. The rest of the money would be used for need-based financial aid and pay increases for faculty, who have gone without raises in recent years.”

The Greensboro News and Record on December 2, 2011 presented an interesting juxtaposition of insanity on the front page followed by a moment of clarity from an informed citizen.

Left front top.

“UNCG students would see a 10 percent increase in tuition next year under a plan the university’s board of trustees will vote on today.

But they could see additional increases as high as 10 percent annually for three years beyond that under a proposal the trustees are also considering.”

Later in the day we learn.

“Update: UNCG trustees approve tuition, fee hikes”

“UNCG’s trustees this morning unanimously approved a plan to increase tuition 10 percent next year, as well as a proposal that could boost tuition as much as 10 percent for three years beyond.

Following a recommendation from UNCG’s tuition and fee committee, trustees voted to raise tuition by $345 for in-state undergraduates and fees by $315 for 2012-13, bringing total tuition and fees to $6,153.

But they also approved a proposal from Chancellor Linda Brady that would allow her to seek additional increases of up to 3.5 percent for another three years. That supplemental increase would be in addition to any other campus- initiated tuition increase the university seeks.”

On the top right front of the December 2 edition we have:

“Jobless figures worst in 80 years”

“data released Thursday by the Employment Security Commission of North Carolina show that Guilford appears on it’s way to a third consecutive year with annual jobless rates in double digits.

Economists say that likely hasn’t happened since the Great Depression.

“I suspect we would have to go back to the 1930’s (to find that),” said Don Jud, professor emeritus at UNCG’s Bryan School of Business and Economics.”

I would provide a link but when I last checked this site was the only one that I found reporting this on the internet.

Anyone else see the irony, stupidity and connections to the Obama administration in this?

In the same December 2 edition of the News and Record on December 2 on the Opinion page the following astute observation was made:

“Athletic department drains UNCG”
“By Christopher C. Tew

Let’s examine Chancellor Linda Brady’s 10 percent solution to UNCG’s education costs:
Knowing that the new legislative majority wouldn’t sufficiently fund any level of education, UNCG proposed a 2011-12 tuition and fees schedule that has forced out several hundred students whose families couldn’t afford increases of more than $500, about what students must pay, after a 10.6 percent increase, to subsidize an athletic department of 250 athletes and 70 coaches and staff.
With incredibly poor timing, UNCG also limited enrollment “educational opportunities,” and thus income, to raise standards in an economic climate where college graduates have better chances of finding work.
To reconcile these incompatibilities, Brady proposes a 10 percent solution: increases raising $7.5 million; increases redistributing some families’ income to provide loans and grants for others; increases giving to UNCG’s athletic department, which teaches no credit courses, employs no one who addresses UNCG’s educational or research missions, and redistributes mainly North Carolina income to mainly out-of-state athletes because UNCG’s teams don’t generate enough interest and earned revenue to cover costs.
This 10 percent solution is typical of an administration that has botched the mergers of two academic divisions, demoralized and alienated its faculty and staff with heavy-handed arrogance, and plans to force students to pay for extravagant discretionary construction, most of it more suitably funded, accomplished and managed by free-enterprise firms, while the campus library goes without books and journals and is left to raise its own funds for a long-needed media center.
UNCG should simply disband its athletic department. The freed-up resources would exceed Brady’s 10 percent solution with no net increase in student costs. Long-term savings from salaries, benefits and NCAA obligations could fund ample intramural sports and improve neglected faculty compensation.
Brady might also augment the $324,000 compensation she apparently finds too meager.”

UNCG 10 percent tuition fee hike proposal, $660 increase in state, University of NC at Greensboro, Spending like drunken sailors, Out of control expansion

Drive through the campus of UNCG, the University of NC at Greensboro, on any day and you will notice a plethora of Obama stickers. Converse with the faculty and staff and the Obama, left wing support will be obvious. Therefore, what I am about to report will come as no surprise. The same kind of mentality that pervades the Obama camp, permeates UNCG and many other colleges and universities. Spending other people’s money.

Sadly this happens all too often in “institutions of higher learning,” where our young people are supposed to be prepared for life, to manage their own finances.

From the Greensboro News and Record November 16, 2011.

“UNCG proposes 10 percent hike in tuition, fees”

“Tuition would rise 10 percent for UNCG students next year according to a proposal the university’s tuition and fee committee presented Tuesday night to the Student Government Association.

In-state undergraduates would see a $660 increase in their bills next year — an extra $345 for tuition and $315 for fees, bringing total tuition and fees to $6,158.

The increase would generate $7.4 million, with half of it used to offset budget reductions. The rest of the money would be used for need-based financial aid and pay increases for faculty, who have gone without raises in recent years.

UNC leaders are allowing chancellors to propose increases above the 6.5 percent cap to help make up for budget cuts.

The universities’ boards of trustees and the UNC Board of Governors must approve any tuition increases.

The Board of Governors isn’t expected to vote until February but has asked campuses to submit their proposals by early December.

UNCG Chancellor Linda Brady said next year’s proposed increase is a temporary salve.

“That doesn’t restore the $26 million cut that we took at UNCG just this year,” she told students and faculty during the meeting in the Elliott University Center.

The meeting got off to a rocky start, with a group of about a dozen students interrupting it, calling the meeting a “sham.” They recited from slips of paper they held, demanding that there be no hike in tuition.

They also asked that the money UNCG is using to build student housing in the Glenwood neighborhood be used to close the budget gap.

Brady said housing fees will repay the debt on that project.

University police escorted the group from the room.

While the remainder of the meeting was mostly civil, students did ask some pointed questions, such as the amount of Brady’s salary and whether administrators would be willing to take a pay cut.

Brady, who answered that she makes $324,000 annually, said that employees have not been given pay raises in four years.”

I am infuriated and insulted on several levels by this move.

  • I am a lifelong resident of NC and this reflects poorly on the state.
  • Education and influences on young people is one of my concerns. Raising costs by 10 percent in the worst economy in my lifetime is an outrage.
  • I began college at UNCG and was on their first wrestling team and the golf team. Unlike Steve Jobs who made a conscious decision to leave a college curriculum and seek knowledge independently, I lucked into computer software classes taught by an IBM employee. I took several more classes at UNCG, other colleges as well as from the IBM Education Center in Washington, DC. I thank God that I was removed from the liberal arts atmosphere at UNCG, even though then they exercised more control over spending.
  • I taught college level computer science courses years ago (not at UNCG.) I have insights into the academic  and business worlds.
  • I have watched UNCG for years spending like drunken sailors. They seem to be more concerned about building and expansion than education and keeping it affordable for more students.

The article states:

“The meeting got off to a rocky start, with a group of about a dozen students interrupting it, calling the meeting a “sham.” They recited from slips of paper they held, demanding that there be no hike in tuition.

They also asked that the money UNCG is using to build student housing in the Glenwood neighborhood be used to close the budget gap.

Brady said housing fees will repay the debt on that project.”

The students ask a valid question. “will repay”. When?

I have watched UNCG spend enormous sums on athletic facilities, student housing and generally swallowing up property surrounding the campus, including the Glenwood area.

UNCG Chancellor Linda Brady stated that she makes $324,000 annually and that there have been no pay raises in four years. Where I come from, $324,000 is a lot of pay for poor performance.

Perhaps Chancellor Brady should be removed, with a savings $324,000, along with others responsible for this fiasco, and replaced for a while by a volunteer panel of business people.

Illinois high school graduation rates slump, Obama legacy, Obama Ayers Chicago corruption cronies, Obama doing to US what he did to Illinois

Illinois high school graduation rates slump, Obama legacy, Obama Ayers Chicago corruption cronies, Obama doing to US what he did to Illinois

“Why was Obama promoting Capri Capital and other investment firms at the same time that Rezko, Levine and Cellini were shaking them down?”…Citizen Wells

From the Chicago Tribune October 31, 2011.

“Illinois high school graduation rates slump”

“Despite its academic struggles, North Chicago Community High School could count on at least one piece of good news: Students were getting their diplomas. The school reported a 90.3 percent graduation rate in 2010.

But in 2011, the figure plummeted to 50.2 percent, a dismal picture created by a new formula that more accurately tracks how many ninth-graders graduate within four years. The new method, required by the federal government, was used for the first time this year in Illinois, with sobering results: Across the state, about 75 percent of high schools saw small dips to big drops in graduation rates, causing educators to adjust to a new reality.

“I think the school probably felt like they were doing things right because we were at 90 percent,” said Eric Gallagher, new principal at the struggling North Chicago high school. “It just took someone else to look at it from the outside.”

The new graduation rates are among the dozens of figures released Monday in the annual School Report Card data that provide information about everything from test scores to teachers’ experience to how much taxpayers spend on their schools.

Parents won’t see the changes in graduation rates in their school report cards because the state reports only this year’s figure with no comparisons to the prior year. The Tribune’s online database (schools.chicagotribune.com), however, shows 10 years of rates in addition to the regular report card data.

Educators who have seen comparative numbers often reacted with a mixture of criticism, concern and confusion over the new graduation rate formula.”

“In Lake Zurich, district officials corrected their figure twice after initially reporting a 100 percent graduation rate for Lake Zurich High School. The problem stemmed from misunderstandings about applying the formula, according to district spokeswoman Jean Malek. She said the accurate graduation rate is 92.8, up from 92.5 the year before.

Still, Lake Zurich is in the minority of high schools showing an increase in its graduation rate this year. It’s also a high performer — among about 30 percent of the more than 600 Illinois high schools that posted a graduation rate of 90 percent or higher this year.

Only 18 high schools, including Chicago’s Northside College Preparatory High School, attained a 100 percent graduation rate this year, compared with almost 100 high schools that did so last year. The statewide graduation rate slid from 87.8 to 83.8 percent.

The numbers are significant because graduation rates are one of the most important barometers in education, research shows.

“Because high school graduation is a strong indicator of social and economic well-being, this provides important information on the most basic measure of education success in the population,” stated a 2009 study by the Consortium on Chicago School Research at the University of Chicago. The report also cautioned that calculating graduation rates is fraught with technical issues and that no method is ideal.

The search for a better way to gauge how many students were getting their diplomas on time bubbled up from state governments.

“There was no consistency previously, and state governors were very interested in knowing how their particular schools and states were doing on getting students through high school within four years,” said Ryan Reyna, an education program director for the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices.

In 2005, the governors association for the first time came up with a common way to calculate graduation rates across states, leading the federal government to draw from that work and draft rules in 2008 on a new graduation formula.”

Just some of Obama’s contributions to education in Illinois.

October 23, 2011

“In 2000, after losing a Congressional race, Barack Obama was looking to revive his political fortunes. And he soon found a springboard — a group of black entrepreneurs also trying to break out.”

“In that push, Mr. Obama met with three state pension boards and introduced a bill on the executives’ behalf. He also worked closely with the state’s top legislative leaders to encourage the pension funds to increase the share of their investment portfolios managed by minority-owned firms. That share has risen to 12 to 20 percent now from 1 to 3 percent in 2000.”

“During this period, campaign finance records show, executives from Ariel, Loop and two other leading Chicago investment firms, Holland Capital Management and Capri Capital, sharply increased their donations to Mr. Obama’s State Senate campaign fund. And once he began his campaign for the United States Senate, they quickly became a fund-raising core that has carried over into the presidential race.”

“Following Obama’s efforts, the Illinois Teachers’ Retirement System gave Ariel Capital $112.5 million to manage, and added hundreds of millions more over the next few years.”

“Three other minority-run firms — Holland Capital, Loop Capital and Capri Capital Partners — also saw hundreds of millions of assets turned over to them to manage after meeting with Obama and the state pension boards.”
“Cellini’s alleged crimes – essentially conspiring with others to force Capri Capital, also a real estate investment firm, and Thomas Rosenberg, a principal and part owner of Capri, to raise or donate substantial political contributions for Public Official A….”

The Annenberg challenge was supposed to improve Chicago schools but instead funded controversial groups like Acorn. Stanley Kurtz filed a FOIA request and after evaluating the Annenberg Challenge records has written his findings. Here are some of the highlights:

■Obama had most of his executive experience while working at the Annenberg Challenge. Obama does not refer to this fact.
■Chicago schools were not improved by the Annenberg Challenge. The money was instead spent on radical groups.
■Apparently Ken Rolling gave Bill Ayers a heads up in a possible cover up scheme.
■Obama and Ayers were on a committee together that created rules and bylaws.

2 links in the article above yield the following:

“During Obama’s time as Annenberg board chairman, Ayers’s own education projects received substantial funding. Indeed, during its first year, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge struggled with significant concerns about possible conflicts of interest. With a writ to aid Chicago’s public schools, the Annenberg challenge played a deeply political role in Chicago’s education wars, and as Annenberg board chairman, Obama clearly aligned himself with Ayers’s radical views on education issues.”

Steve Jobs Obama Headed For One Term Presidency, Huffington Post, Jobs Biography, Critical of administration policies, Obama not business friendly

“We need an educated citizenry that values hard evidence.”…Barack Obama

From the Huffington Post October 20, 2011.

“Steve Jobs Biography Reveals He Told Obama, ‘You’re Headed For A One-Term Presidency’”

“In one of the most hotly-anticipated biographies of the year, “Steve Jobs,” author Walter Isaacson reveals that the Apple CEO offered to design political ads for President Obama’s 2012 campaign despite being highly critical of the administration’s policies and that Jobs refused potentially life-saving surgery on his pancreatic cancer because he felt it was too invasive. Nine months later, he got the operation but it was too late.

Those are just some of the tidbits about Jobs’ life revealed in the upcoming biography, a copy of which was obtained by The Huffington Post. The publication date of the official biography of the notoriously-secretive Apple co-founder was pushed up after his death in October. “I wanted my kids to know me,” Isaacson quoted Jobs as saying in their final interview. “I wasn’t always there for them and I wanted them to know why and to understand what I did.”

Among other details unearthed in the book on the notoriously-secretive Apple co-founder:

Jobs’ Meeting With Obama

Jobs, who was known for his prickly, stubborn personality, almost missed meeting President Obama in the fall of 2010 because he insisted that the president personally ask him for a meeting. Though his wife told him that Obama “was really psyched to meet with you,” Jobs insisted on the personal invitation, and the standoff lasted for five days. When he finally relented and they met at the Westin San Francisco Airport, Jobs was characteristically blunt. He seemed to have transformed from a liberal into a conservative.

“You’re headed for a one-term presidency,” he told Obama at the start of their meeting, insisting that the administration needed to be more business-friendly. As an example, Jobs described the ease with which companies can build factories in China compared to the United States, where “regulations and unnecessary costs” make it difficult for them.

Jobs also criticized America’s education system, saying it was “crippled by union work rules,” noted Isaacson. “Until the teachers’ unions were broken, there was almost no hope for education reform.” Jobs proposed allowing principals to hire and fire teachers based on merit, that schools stay open until 6 p.m. and that they be open 11 months a year.

Aiding Obama’s Reelection Campaign

Jobs suggested that Obama meet six or seven other CEOs who could express the needs of innovative businesses — but when White House aides added more names to the list, Jobs insisted that it was growing too big and that “he had no intention of coming.” In preparation for the dinner, Jobs exhibited his notorious attention to detail, telling venture capitalist John Doerr that the menu of shrimp, cod and lentil salad was “far too fancy” and objecting to a chocolate truffle dessert. But he was overruled by the White House, which cited the president’s fondness for cream pie.

Though Jobs was not that impressed by Obama, later telling Isaacson that his focus on the reasons that things can’t get done “infuriates” him, they kept in touch and talked by phone a few more times. Jobs even offered to help create Obama’s political ads for the 2012 campaign. “He had made the same offer in 2008, but he’d become annoyed when Obama’s strategist David Axelrod wasn’t totally deferential,” writes Isaacson. Jobs later told the author that he wanted to do for Obama what the legendary “morning in America” ads did for Ronald Reagan.”
