Mark Robinson, a lifelong citizen of Greensboro, NC, gives an unscripted, from the heart speech about his gun rights and the ultimate safety of his family before the Greensboro City Council.

From the News & Observer.

“‘Come hell or high water,’ citizens will keep gun rights, NC man vows in viral video”

“A North Carolina man’s 4-minute take on gun laws echoed well beyond the city council chambers where he shared it Tuesday afternoon.

Greensboro resident Mark Robinson’s speech went viral after U.S. Rep. Mark Walker of North Carolina shared it on Facebook on Wednesday morning. By Friday, the clip had been viewed more than 3.2 million times.

Robinson spoke during a public comment period in which several people shared thoughts on a gun and knife show slated for late summer at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex.

Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan previously proposed canceling the show in response to the Parkland, Fla., high school shooting that killed 17 people in February.”

“Robinson asked city leaders “when are you all going to start standing up for the majority?” – a group he said includes himself, as “a law-abiding citizen who’s never shot anybody, never committed a serious crime, never committed a felony.”

“I’ve never done anything like that, but it seems like every time we have one of these shootings, nobody wants to put the blame where it goes, which is at the shooter’s feet,” Robinson said at the meeting. “You want to put it at my feet.”

Robinson, who is black, is among the minority of male gun owners. Only 24 percent of non-white males said they owned a gun, while 48 percent of white men said they own a gun in 2017, making them the most likely demographic to own a gun, according to the Pew Research Center.

Robinson said he would turn in his guns if a new law required it, but said the law wouldn’t deter criminals from keeping their weapons.

“And guess who’s gonna to be the one that suffers? It’s gonna be me,” he said. “ … Our rights are the ones that are being taken away – that’s the reason why I came down here today. Gun show or no gun show, NRA or no NRA, I’m here to stand up for the law abiding citizens of this community.””

From the BBC a few minutes ago.

“US school shooting: Gunman dies after being shot in Maryland

A gunman who shot and injured two students at a high school in the US state of Maryland has died of a gunshot wound, police say.

The two students are being treated in hospital. One is critically ill.

The attack happened on Tuesday morning before lessons at Great Mills High School in St Mary’s County, 65 miles (104km) south-east of Washington DC.

It comes a month after a high school shooter killed 17 in Parkland, Florida.

An armed campus guard exchanged gunfire with the attacker – who has not been identified – but it is unclear if the gunman was hit by the guard’s gunfire or shot himself.

St Mary’s County Sheriff Tim Cameron said the shooting began in a hallway at the school.

The gunman fired at a female and then a male student, hitting them both, he said.

“Our school resource officer who was stationed inside the school was alerted,” he told reporters.

“He pursued the shooter, engaged the shooter. During that engagement he fired a round at the shooter.”

School security lessons from history, Guns protect weaker forces from attack, American Revolution then Second Amendment, General Greene and my Quaker ancestors fought invaders with guns

School security lessons from history, Guns protect weaker forces from attack, American Revolution then Second Amendment, General Greene and my Quaker ancestors fought invaders with guns

I recently discovered that my Wells ancestors were Quakers and that another one of them fought the British during the American Revolution. This pleases me greatly.

Yesterday, the Battle of Guilford Courthouse was reenacted in Greensboro, NC. The patriots were led by one of George Washington’s most trusted generals, Nathanael Greene, a Quaker. You know, pacifists.

“The Battle of Guilford Courthouse Begins

Lt. Col. Henry Lee opened the battle with an advance guard action against the British near the Quaker settlement of New Garden, 3 miles west of the American position. This skirmish resulted in no advantage to either side. The Americans retired, and the British continued to advance along the New Garden Road toward the courthouse.”

https://www.nps.gov/parkhistory/online_books/hh/30/hh30h.htm

This is a very interesting battle with Lord Cornwallis being the technical victor but being so damaged that it soon led to his surrender at Yorktown.

General Nathanael Greene biography.

“One of the most trusted generals of the Revolutionary army was Nathanael Greene, Washington’s friend and comrade-in-arms. The Greene family was among the earliest settlers in Rhode Island and helped establish the colony. John Greene was the founder of the family in the new colony. Nathanael Greene was born July 27, 1742 (old style, which is August 7, 1742 new style). His education was limited but he received a thorough training in the books which were available at his time, especially the Bible, upon which were built his habits of living, moral ideals and purposes.

In due course Greene used every possible moment to read books and saved his money to buy books so that eventually he acquired a large library. Greene had also been taught blacksmithing and the milling work. His father purchased a mill in Coventry which was assigned to Nathanael to manage. He took an active part in community affairs. He knew the value of education and helped establish the first public school in Coventry. He also added books on military science to his library which he studied diligently.

When the pacifist Quaker authorities discovered his interest in military affairs, he was called before the main committee for examination. Greene stated firmly that though he was a Quaker, he would not be turned from studies which interested him and the case was dropped.”

http://www.ushistory.org/valleyforge/served/greene.html

My ancestor, John Wells, my 5th great grandfather, signed the Tryon Resolves  in August 14, 1775 and fought in the Battle of Kings Mountain.

I recently learned that he was raised a Quaker.

I also recently learned that his father, Joseph Wells Sr. and his brother Joseph Wells Jr. and their family settled in the Snow Camp, Cane Creek area of Alamance County NC near Greensboro. They were founding members of the Cane Creek Friends Meeting, Quakers.

John Wells, son of Joseph Wells Jr., fought in the battle of Lindley’s Mill aka Battle of Cane Creek, September 13, 1781.

“On the morning of September 13, as the unsuspecting vanguard of struggling Loyalists crossed the branch, a volley tore into their ranks, instantly killing McNeil and pinning down Capt. Archibald McKay’s company of Highlanders. After securing the prisoners in the rear at Spring Friends Meetinghouse, Fanning rode forward to organize a flanking attack on the Whig position. Under assault from both front and rear, the Whigs stubbornly held their ground for several hours but were finally driven from the field. When he was seriously wounded in the arm late in the battle, Fanning gave the command to McDugald, who safely reached Wilmington with the prisoners. The killed and wounded, more than 250 on both sides, were buried and cared for by Quakers in the surrounding community. The hard-fought battle was the bloodiest of the war in North Carolina, with more casualties for the numbers engaged than the Battle of Guilford Courthouse.”

http://eachstorytold.com/2018/03/17/battle-of-lindleys-mill-aka-battle-of-cane-creek-september-13-1781-hillsborough-militia-fought-loyalists-john-wells-son-of-joseph-wells-jr-of-snow-camp-participated-despite-quaker-background/

This John Wells was kicked out of his Quaker meeting house for fighting and marrying a non Quaker.

So, Quakers, considered to be pacifists, took up guns and defended their families and friends during the American revolution.

It’s no wonder we have a Second Amendment.

The Quakers and other who fled Europe due to religious persecution knew tyranny. They knew what would happen if they did not defend themselves.

This is ancestry and history.

And once again history teaches us that guns protect weaker forces from stronger forces.

It can be a situation as simple as a woman protecting herself from a man with a knife, a superior force.

This lesson applies to securing our schools and children.

More guns, not less are the solution. In the right hands of course.

Don’t get sucked into the debate about guns and gun control.

That has nothing to do with the school tragedies. It has all to do with the Democrat Party far left agenda.

It not only has gotten us nowhere with securing our schools, it has made the situation far worse with gun free zones and the illusion that the absence of guns in an area makes it safer.

The problem in Florida, Sandy Hook and other school shootings was not guns, but the absence of guns in responsible hands.

The biggest problem is not making school security a top priority and following through with it.

One of my classic replies to anti gun fanatics, those wanting gun free zones is:

“Would you rather the crazies use explosives?”

The worst school disaster happened in Bath Township, Michigan May 18, 1927. 38 elementary school children and 6 adults were killed and at least 58 others injured. Dynamite was used.

And just yesterday….

From Zero Hedge March 6, 2018.

That was pure luck!

Guns protect good people and weaker forces from superior forces of evil and crazy people, regardless of the weaponry.

There are many steps that can be taken to secure schools and other areas. Here are some.

From Citizen Wells January 16, 2013.

1. Monitor the areas outside the buildings. This would include monitored security cameras and some combination of walk arounds by staff and or security personnel.

2. Security alarms for illegal entry.

3. Buffered entry ways. i.e. double entry ways. The first door should set off the alarm and the second would slow down intrusion.

4. Stronger doorways.

5. Regular drills for emergency preparedness. We had those when I was in grade school.

6. As many armed school personnel as possible. “Good guys with guns to stop the bad guys with guns.” Each armed person should be psychologically evaluated.

Kennedy assassination documents 2017 release, Deja vu increases, Dorothy Kilgallen and Kymberley Suchomel died in sleep, Info destroys narrative of lone gunman, No one saw Lee Harvey Oswald or Steven Paddock pull trigger

“I had a Lee Harvey Oswald deja vu moment earlier today.”…Citizen Wells October 2, 2017.

“It is my personal view that there were two lone nuts who assassinated the president—Oswald and this other fellow,”…Congressman L. Richardson Preyer, November 1980

“2. Scientific acoustical evidence establishes a high probability that two gunmen fired at President John F. Kennedy. Other scientific evidence does not preclude the possibility of two gunmen firing at the President. Scientific evidence negates some specific conspiracy allegations.

3. The committee believes, on the basis of the evidence available to it, that President John F. Kennedy was probably assassinated as a result of a conspiracy. The committee is unable to identify the other gunman or the extent of the conspiracy.”…Select Committee on Assassinations in the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy

The Kennedy assassination documents are about to be released.

Irony of ironies.

No one saw Lee Harvey Oswald or Steven Paddock pull a trigger.

In both events a narrative of a lone gunman developed quickly.

In both events there is strong evidence of multiple gunmen.

In both events a person with contradictory evidence mysteriously dies in their sleep.

From the Columbus Dispatch.

About a week after surviving the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas, Kymberley Suchomel has died.

Suchomel, 28, who was not injured during last week’s shooting, died early Monday at her Apple Valley home, according to her grandmother, Julie Norton, the co-founder of the High Desert Phoenix Foundation.

Norton found Suchomel just after 8:30 a.m. when she arrived to care for her 3-year-old great-granddaughter, Scarlett. She believes Suchomel may have died in her sleep after her husband, Mike, left for work at 4:30 a.m.

From the Kymberley Suchomel Facebook posting, Oct. 4, 2017 (retrieved from Wayback Machine)

“From about 50 feet in front of us, and a little to the right, fire crackers were set off. Let me repeat that… FIRE CRACKERS WERE SET OFF. I verbally stated “some asshole just shot of fire crackers in close proximity to so many people”. I was literally pissed off. You could see Jason Aldean look to his left kind of startled by it, but he was also clearly irritated. I would say about 15 seconds later, the first volley of gunfire was released. It was a shorter volley than any of the others, and the gunfire was not as close together either. EVERYONE looked up, down, around. We thought it was more fire crackers at first, but then Ricky reached over, told us all to put our boots on, quickly. And the volley ended. Then people started to panic. The gentlemen behind me looked at me as I was putting on my boots, half laying down, and said “calm down crazy, its just fireworks, jeez”. That is when the 2nd volley went off, Ricky yelled at us all to get down, flat, & we immediately knew there was someone shooting at us. I remember getting down, but I didn’t lay flat for some reason, thinking- oh my gosh, I need to get flatter than I am now, but my body just wouldn’t let me. That was the 2nd volley. At the end of that volley ( I am still struggling to get my boots on), we turned and tried to run, but the people behind us still weren’t moving. I yelled at the lady “RUN! ITS GUNFIRE! RUUUUUUUUUNNNNN!!!” The look on her face was pure terror, but she finally dropped her stuff and turned to begin running…. But then the 3rd volley hit… and it was close. Very, very close to us. I could physically see the impact of the bullets on the astro-turf, I could feel the warmth & the passing of bullets. Once that 3rd volley was over, Casie linked her arm into mine, and we decided at that moment we weren’t stopping- we were getting the Hell out of there. And I do mean Hell. We were in literal Hell. The gentlemen that mocked me stating it was just fireworks fell to the ground, and he never got back up. The lady behind me (who was now in front of me) who was terrified as I told her to run, never got back up. I actually had to physically step over her body to run (something I am still struggling with, so please don’t attack me. I was absolutely in flight-or-fight mode). There was another person to my right who also wasn’t moving. We ran. I don’t know what direction we ran, I don’t know towards which landmark we ran. We just ran. It was at this time our group got split up. Casie & I were together. Ricky, Cassie & Mendy were together.

We were rounding some sort of corner maybe- and I looked to the right and I saw this large cowboy sitting down with his legs spread, holding a blood-soaked woman. I thought to myself “we NEED to hide”, but as I looked quickly for somewhere to go, the gunfire once again got closer and closer. We couldn’t hide because they (and I do mean THEY) were chasing us. That exact moment is when I started to really panic. That is the exact moment in which I thought this was it, I was going to die, I was never going to see my family again. So, as we are running, we approach this fence where men are throwing women over, and we ran up to it as they had knocked It down, so we were able to get out. As we crossed the threshold of the venue, my mind went straight to other mass shootings and hearing the victim’s families in my head talk about how they never got to say goodbye. I did not want this for my husband (who was at work) & my grandma (who had my daughter, Scarlett). So, at 10:07pm I called my husband franticly leaving him a voicemail- telling him that I loved him and was in the middle of a shooting & I wasn’t sure if I would make it out alive. Next, while still running, I called my grandma to tell her the exact same thing. But the gunfire wasn’t stopping this whole time. It wasn’t ceasing. It wasn’t slowing down. And It was directly behind us, following us. Bullets were coming from every direction. Behind us, in front of us, to the side of us. But I know, I just know, that there was someone chasing us. The entire time I felt this way. The farther we got from the venue, the closer the gunfire got. I kept looking back expecting to see the gunmen- and I say MEN because there was more than one person. There was more than one gun firing. 100% more than one. ”

From Fox News January 30, 2017.

“The Manhattan District Attorney’s office is looking into the mysterious death 51 years ago of newspaper writer and “What’s My Line?” star Dorothy Kilgallen, who was investigating the JFK assassination, The Post has learned.

The stunning development comes after a new book, “The Reporter who Knew Too Much,” suggests Kilgallen was murdered to shut down her relentless pursuit of a Mafia don linked to JFK and Lee Harvey Oswald.”

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/01/30/manhattan-das-office-probing-death-reporter-with-possible-jfk-ties.html

From the NY Post December 4, 2016.

“Journalist’s tell-all on mobster tied to JFK might have gotten her killed”

“The glamorous, razor-sharp Kilgallen delighted viewers, but behind the scenes, the dogged and courageous reporter was hot on the trail of the biggest story of her life: the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

The morning after that show, on Nov. 8, 1965, the 52-year-old newspaper columnist hailed by The Post as “the most powerful female voice in America” was dead in her Manhattan town house. Her body was found sitting up in a bed, naked under a blue bathrobe, with the makeup, false eyelashes and a floral hair accessory she had worn on TV still on.

After an autopsy, the city’s chief medical examiner, James Luke, put on Kilgallen’s death certificate: “Acute Ethanol and Barbiturate Intoxication, Circumstances Undetermined.” Luke ruled her death accidental, caused by a combination of sleeping pills and booze.”

“Shaw makes a compelling argument that Kilgallen was the victim of foul play, likely orchestrated by New Orleans Mafia don Carlos Marcello, who feared the results of her 18-month investigation for a tell-all book that would accuse Marcello of masterminding the JFK and Lee Harvey Oswald assassinations.

The possibility that Marcello was responsible for JFK’s death came up in the 1991 Oliver Stone movie “JFK,” but New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison, who launched a probe, dismissed the idea. “He missed it,” Shaw says. “He didn’t have access to Kilgallen’s research.”

Kilgallen died weeks before a planned second trip to New Orleans for a meeting with a secret informant, telling a friend it was “cloak and daggerish.”

“I’m going to break the real story and have the biggest scoop of the century,” she told her lawyer.

Her death brought all that to a halt. “The killers won, because she was eliminated and erased from any historical record about the JFK assassination,” Shaw says. Her JFK book was never published.”

“Kilgallen, who called “laughable” the Warren Commission’s conclusion that Oswald acted alone, launched her own probe. She compiled a thick file of evidence, interviews and notes, always keeping it close or under lock and key.

After her death, the dossier was nowhere to be found.

“Whoever decided to silence Dorothy, I believe, took that file and burned it,” Shaw says.”

Chicago crime rate drops, Illinois concealed carry applications surge, Robberies down 20 percent, Homicide rate at 56 year low, Guns protect weaker people from stronger people armed or unarmed

Guns protect weaker people from stronger people, armed or unarmed.

A point missed or ignored by the media and the left.

The police officer in Ferguson, MO was protected from further harm by a gun.

From the Washington Times August 24, 2014.
“Chicago crime rate drops as concealed carry applications surge

An 86-year-old Illinois man with a concealed carry permit fired his weapon at an armed robbery suspect fleeing police last month, stopping the man in his tracks and allowing the police to make an arrest.

Law enforcement authorities described the man as “a model citizen” who “helped others avoid being victims” at an AT&T store outside Chicago where he witnessed the holdup. The man, whose identity was withheld from the press, prevented others from entering the store during the theft.

Police said the robber harassed customers and pistol-whipped one.

Since Illinois started granting concealed carry permits this year, the number of robberies that have led to arrests in Chicago has declined 20 percent from last year, according to police department statistics. Reports of burglary and motor vehicle theft are down 20 percent and 26 percent, respectively. In the first quarter, the city’s homicide rate was at a 56-year low.

“It isn’t any coincidence crime rates started to go down when concealed carry was permitted. Just the idea that the criminals don’t know who’s armed and who isn’t has a deterrence effect,” said Richard Pearson, executive director of the Illinois State Rifle Association. “The police department hasn’t changed a single tactic — they haven’t announced a shift in policy or of course — and yet you have these incredible numbers.”

As of July 29 the state had 83,183 applications for concealed carry and had issued 68,549 licenses. By the end of the year, Mr. Pearson estimates, 100,000 Illinois citizens will be packing. When Illinois began processing requests in January, gun training and shooting classes — which are required for the application — were filling up before the rifle association was able to schedule them, Mr. Pearson said.”

CT gun owners defy registration law, Connecticut tax and control, 100k citizens face felony charges?, Registering firearms would not have protected Sandy Hook

Guns are not the problem, they are part of the solution.

Registering firearms would not have protected Sandy Hook or any other school or any other innocent and vulnerable person.

It does put money in the state coffers and give Connecticut more control over their citizens.

Any rational person knows that the criminals and crazies get the guns anyway without registration.

From the Daily Caller February 13, 2014.
“Law-abiding Connecticut gun owners may face FELONY CHARGES for failing to register weapons”
“Connecticut’s gun control deadline requiring gun registration has come and gone — putting tens of thousands of law-abiding citizens at risk of felony charges, should officials decide to crack down on what one gun owner called a stand of “civil disobedience.”

Last January after the Sandy Hook shooting, Connecticut passed a stringent new gun control laws, and in April, Gov. Dannel Mallory approved restrictions which redefined the definition of an “assault weapon” to ban 100 more types of semi-automatic weapons. The law’s grandfather clause allowed gun owners already possessing AR-15s and similar weapons to keep them, but they must submit their personal information to a statewide registry. A photo taken by George Roelofson depicting long lines of gun owners waiting to register their weapons and ammunition went viral in December as the law’s deadline approached:”

“Now, as Connecticut’s The Courant estimates, as many as 100,000 gun owners with 350,000 unregistered weapons have yet to come forward, making state officials uneasy. Furthermore, estimates concerning banned magazines holding more than ten rounds — which have no serial numbers and are impossible to track unless registered — show that only 36,932 have been entered into the state’s databases, while over two million remain on the market.”

“I hold it that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical. Unsuccesful rebellions indeed generally establish the incroachments on the rights of the people which have produced them. An observation of this truth should render honest republican governors so mild in their punishment of rebellions, as not to discourage them too much. It is a medecine necessary for the sound health of government.”…Thomas Jefferson

“It is my personal view that there were two lone nuts who assassinated the president—Oswald and this other fellow,”…Congressman L. Richardson Preyer, November 1980

“Just because something is a Conspiracy Theory does not mean it’s not true”

I played Little League Baseball with the son of L. Richardson Preyer.

He was a judge at the time. Both he and his wife were very nice and down to earth people.

L. Richardson Preyer was the grandson of Lunsford Richardson, inventor of Vicks VapoRub.

Mr. Preyer becamce a US congressman in 1968 and was a member of the House Select Committee on Assassinations.

He believed, as I do, that there were 2 gunmen and a conspiracy in the assassination of President Kennedy.

From the Star News November 24, 1980.

“Preyer, a Democrat from Greensboro, said he still considers the Kennedy assassination on Nov. 22, 1963, to be the nations biggest unsolved murder case.

“I think the Justice Department should go forward with this matter until we get to the point where we can say there is nothing else to do and that we know all we will ever know,” Preyer said in a recent interview. “I don’t think we are at that point yet.”

Preyer was chairman of the special House subcommittee which in 1977-78 conducted an extensive re-investigation of the Kennedy assassination. The committee concluded that a second gunman was involved in the killing, reversing the conclusion of the Warren Commission that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone.

Preyer said he is sticking by the subcommittee’s conclusion.

“It is my personal view that there were two lone nuts who assassinated the president—Oswald and this other fellow,” he said.”

“You talk o’ better food for us, an’ schools, an’ fires, an’ all:
We’ll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don’t mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow’s Uniform is not the soldier-man’s disgrace.
For it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Chuck him out, the brute!”
But it’s “Saviour of ‘is country” when the guns begin to shoot;
An’ it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ anything you please;
An’ Tommy ain’t a bloomin’ fool — you bet that Tommy sees!”…”Tommy”, Rudyard Kipling

From the Daily Mail September 24, 2013.
“British hero of the mall massacre: Ex Royal Marine with a handgun saved 100 lives as terrorists ran amok”

A former marine emerged as a hero of the Nairobi siege yesterday after he was credited with saving up to 100 lives.

The ex soldier was having coffee at the Westgate mall when it was attacked by Islamists on Saturday.

With a gun tucked into his waistband, he was pictured helping two women from the complex.

His story emerged as sporadic gunfire continued to ring out from inside the mall early today as Kenyan security forces battled Al Qaeda-linked terrorists into a fourth day.

Despite Kenyan police assurances that they had taken control of the building, a security expert with contacts inside the mall said at least 10 hostages were still being held by a band of attackers, possibly as many as 13.

The former soldier is said to have returned to the building on a dozen occasions, despite intense gunfire.

A friend in Nairobi said: ‘What he did was so heroic. He was having coffee with friends when it happened.

‘He went back in 12 times and saved 100 people. Imagine going back in when you knew what was going on inside.’

Sources said the soldier was in the Royal Marine and now lives in Kenyan. He cannot be named for security reasons.

From USA Today July 9, 2013.
“Illinois enacts nation’s final concealed-gun law”

“Illinois became the last state in the nation to allow public possession of concealed guns as lawmakers rushed Tuesday to finalize a proposal ahead of a federal court’s deadline.

Both chambers of the Legislature voted to override changes Gov. Pat Quinn made to the bill they approved more than a month ago. Even some critics of the law argued it was better to approve something rather than risk the courts allowing virtually unregulated concealed weapons in Chicago, which has endured severe gun violence in recent months.

The Senate voted 41-17 in favor of the override Tuesday afternoon after the House voted 77-31, margins that met the three-fifths threshold needed to set aside the amendatory veto. Quinn had used his veto authority to suggest changes such as prohibiting guns in restaurants that serve alcohol and limiting gun-toting citizens to one firearm at a time.

Quinn had predicted a “showdown in Springfield” after a week of Chicago appearances to drum up support for the changes he made in the amendatory veto. The Chicago Democrat faces a tough re-election fight next year and has already drawn a primary challenge from former White House chief of state Bill Daley, who has criticized the governor’s handling of the debate over guns and other issues.

Rep. Brandon Phelps, a Democrat from southern Illinois, predicted a history-making day in which lawmakers would dismiss Quinn’s changes as politically motivated.

“He’s trying to cater to, pander to Cook County,” Phelps said, referring to the nation’s second most-populous county, which encompasses Chicago. “And I don’t blame him … because that’s where his votes are.”

The law as approved by the Legislature permits anyone with a Firearm Owner’s Identification card who has passed a background check and undergone gun-safety training of 16 hours — longest of any state — to obtain a concealed-carry permit for $150.”

From Political Outcast July 11, 2013.
“Illinois was the only state in the U.S. to have an outright prohibition on concealed carry. Residents could own guns but only keep them in their house. They weren’t even allowed to carry an unloaded gun in public.

A couple years ago, a Democrat state Representative Brandon Phelps sponsored a bill that would have allowed concealed carry, albeit with many limitations. The Governor and Rahm Emanuel both lobbied against the bill, and it eventually failed 65 – 32.”

“It’ll be interesting to see what effect this will have on Chicago violence. Over the Independence Day weekend, 74 people were shot and 12 were killed there. The violence is so bad in Chicago that some Illinois reps are calling for the National Guard and state police to step in to try to stem it. Just what they would need. Military and police patrolling their streets. A lot of that could be prevented by having a well-armed populace.”
