“Poll shocker: Scott Brown surges ahead in Senate race”
“Riding a wave of opposition to Democratic health-care reform, GOP upstart Scott Brown is leading in the U.S. Senate race, raising the odds of a historic upset that would reverberate all the way to the White House, a new poll shows.
Although Brown’s 4-point lead over Democrat Martha Coakley is within the Suffolk University/7News survey’s margin of error, the underdog’s position at the top of the results stunned even pollster David Paleologos.
“It’s a Brown-out,” said Paleologos, director of Suffolk’s Political Research Center. “It’s a massive change in the political landscape.”
The poll shows Brown, a state senator from Wrentham, besting Coakley, the state’s attorney general, by 50 percent to 46 percent, the first major survey to show Brown in the lead. Unenrolled long-shot Joseph L. Kennedy, an information technology executive with no relation to the famous family, gets 3 percent of the vote. Only 1 percent of voters were undecided.
Paleologos said bellweather models show high numbers of independent voters turning out on election day, which benefits Brown, who has 65 percent of that bloc compared to Coakley’s 30 percent. Kennedy earns just 3 percent of the independent vote, and 1 percent are undecided.
Given the 4.4-point margin of error, the poll shows Coakley could win the race, Paleologos said. But if Brown’s momentum holds, he is poised to succeed the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy – and to halt health-care reform, the issue the late senator dubbed “the cause of my life.”
Yet even in the bluest state, it appears Kennedy’s quest for universal health care has fallen out of favor, with 51 percent of voters saying they oppose the “national near-universal health-care package” and 61 percent saying they believe the government cannot afford to pay for it.
The poll, conducted Monday through Wednesday, surveyed 500 registered likely voters who knew the date of Tuesday’s election. It shows Brown leading all regions of the state except Suffolk County.
“Either Brown’s momentum accelerates and his lead widens, or this becomes a wake-up call for Coakley to become the ‘Comeback Kid’ this weekend,” Paleologos said.
And with 99 percent having made up their minds, voters may be hard to persuade.
The poll surveyed a carefully partitioned electorate meant to match voter turnout: 39 percent Democrat, 15 percent Republican and 45 percent unenrolled.”

UPDATE FRIDAY, 01.14.10: A just issued Suffolk University poll now puts MA State Senator Scott Brown at 50% v. 47% for MA AG Martha Coakley in their bid to become the next U.S. Senator from the Bay State. The margin of error is + or – 4.38%. http://www.suffolk.edu/39994.html (Note: check out the cross tabs. You will see, this poll groups Independents together with Unenrolled’s, producing a far more accurate prediction as to how independent minded voters, both registered Independents and registered Unenrolled’s, will vote. This contrasts with previous polls mentioned below, which find Ms. Coakley besting Mr. Brown by separating Independents from Unenrolled’s and then excluding the voting preferences of these Unenrolled’s from the totals.)

Read the Suffolk University summary. They got it right, even if the Boston Herald did not.

This morning, I took the letter, addressed the envelope to the union Prez, and tucked a shiny new ‘Scott Brown for U.S. Senate’ bumpah stickah in the envelope with the original letter. Put a stamp on the envelope and placed it the mailbox where my buds from the USPS will deliver it to Boston for me.
Done. Didn’t even have to write a word of rebuttal……
Peter and Denise: Just checked the MA flu stats for this past week (and also to date from the spring) and seasonal flu is at ‘0.’ Not one case in MA and Peter, you’re right-we should be seeing at least sporadic outbreaks by now.

Beck had a pollster insider on this morning- here is the jist of the analysis:
1. only internal polls right now are accurate.
2. best internal polls are Barky’s in the White House, who are watching this closely.
3. Barky will not go to MA if Cloakly is doomed to fail- they can’t afford another loss tied personally to the “Chosen One.”
Therefore, if you say he is not coming- I take that as good, if not great!
p.s.
If Barky did go it would be on Monday, Martin Luther King Day to rally the black voters, if the race was tight the African American vote may put Coakly over the top.

I heard on a radio talk show this morning that if the “internal” polls look bad for Coakley, then we won’t be seeing BO in Mass. So, if he doesn’t go up there to campaign for her, then that’s probably a clue to us that she’s not doing well. But, I think we all know she’s not doing well anyway. LOL!

Intensifying the gloom, the Democrat says, is the fact that the same polls showing Coakley falling behind also show President Obama with a healthy approval rating in the state. “With Obama at 60 percent in Massachusetts, this shouldn’t be happening, but it is,” the Democrat says.
Given those numbers, some Democrats, eager to distance Obama from any electoral failure, are beginning to compare Coakley to Creigh Deeds, the losing Democratic candidate in the Virginia governor’s race last year. Deeds ran such a lackluster campaign, Democrats say, that his defeat could be solely attributed to his own shortcomings, and should not be seen as a referendum on President Obama’s policies or those of the national Democratic party.

That video of Obama was a riot. It’s a fight he wants to have-Mr. Backroom deals cooked with insurance companies, big pharma-everything hidden or incomprehensible.

Haven’t gotten a call from ‘her’ camp yet but since I’m unenrolled, I expect it any day. I have my stock statement ready: ‘I’m voting for the same person Gerald ‘Tookie’ Amirault is voting for.’ After that, I plan to just put the phone down and walk away; they can’t make another call until I hang up. I use the same trick on obnoxious telemarketers, and it works.

He owns real estate in PuntaCona and the person who is legally representing him is a Ted Kheel . He is a 90 something year old lawyer who is mainly used for union disputes. NOW HEAR THIS. He was the prime developer of PuntaConda.
