Location: Senator Ben Nelson’s Office
Organized By: Stubborn_Facts
Event Description:
NOTE ADDED 12/20 @7:00AM RALLY IS STILL ON!

For much more detail, visit THIS POST on the Grassroots in Nebraska website.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid is pushing for a vote on health care before Christmas.

**So YES, it is rather NUTS to try to do a rally on 12/22 in <32 degree weather…in the evening.**

BUT…if there is ANY chance we can impact this bill, it really comes down to US in Nebraska –

Senator Ben Nelson, by all accounts is the KEY vote on this bill and has voiced his unwillingness to vote for it in its present form, including federal funding for abortion.

Sen. David Vitter (LA) an executive member of the Senate Republican Steering Committee, advised on a 12/17 conference call with grassroots organizers from several states that some large, visible rally in Nebraska with media attention may well have some impact on Senator Nelson. He is already under a lot of pressure.

He also said if we could get national media attention that would be very helpful.

The other organizers on the call offered their support by way of encouraging whoever could possibly come from their states, spreading the word, gathering national media contact information they have, and by donating money for us to run an ad campaign about the rally (see below).

Chris Comeaux from Tea Party of Louisiana has made plans to travel to Lincoln to help on Monday and Tuesday. I have heard from a couple of other organizers that they are trying to work things out so they can come also.

PLEASE – DRESS WARMLY!!

We already have….
Lights
Sound system
Gary!

So we need YOU and for you to drag as many people along as you can – and could use HELP, especially in getting the word out, and participating in flyer distribution we are arranging.

IF you want to help, leave a comment below.

If you need sign ideas, see this POST.

  1. And all the while I see now that Orly, while constantly flattering me about my “intelligence,” and “scholarship” and “intellectual capacity”, avoided as much as possible any use of my brains which might have cautioned hesitancy or restraint of any kind. This is how she has gotten herself into so much trouble. Her modus operandi is speeding, in cars and in courts. Her constant counter-plea, whenever I asked for time to sift through the legal or factual material, was that to wait even a moment to engage in reflective thought or analysis would be to lose her followers, her supporters, and it was for their sake that I had to write without thinking, without adequate research or time, without allowing thoughts to sink in or mature.

This is why we lost (no, it was not because of Carter’s conceivably but unlikely compromised Law Clerks….)-like the proverbial fools we rushed in where Angels might fear to tread. Orly then, embarrassed by her setbacks, embarrassed by Lucas Smith’s incomprehensibly malicious initial disclosures (Orly knew he was staying in my house in September and could not help but notice that she was there and coming out of the shower before anyone else was up….day-after-day-so don’t accuse ME of incaution here!) But despite her rashness and impetuousity and lack of caution or care, Orly and now her supporters blame ME for the explosion of all this. I suspect it would have been a mild and trivial sideline if Orly had merely, appropriately and honestly, separated from her husband during this time period, but she chose to try officially to keep the lid on something she lacked the care to keep secret in reality. We wandered around every city in the country together-I very proud to be with this wonderful, passionate, and yes quite beautiful woman.

  3. Those who would like to see Newt in 2012, wasn’t Newt just backing Scozzafina in NY23? Didn’t Newt think Obama’s speech to the school children was good for America?
    How about this one:

    There is much, much more!
Please, people, think again about Newt!

  4. Kim – right on! Newt? C’mon, there are so many good and decent conservatives who lack the baggage that man brings to the Party. His worth is flame throwing. His worth is keeping the base fed. His worth is a party man NOT a President. His philandering ways pretty much sucked the air out of his chances to lead this country long ago.

  5. Here ya go – how about Beck and Palin or Dobbs and Palin? Now that would get my attention! Not sure they’d get my vote, but by george, they could certainly work for it.

  6. This is just a part of an email I just received from a fellow AGJ member……check it out at…

Harry Reid and his co-horts are in complete violation of the Constitution and they are criminals. He bribed Mr Nelson from Nebraska and others with taxpayer money.
Article I section 8……The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States; so any bill they pass must be uniform……… also see Art. I section 9 and 10, the Declaration of Independence and the federal papers. We also need to look very close at the 9th and 10th Amendments. These bribes violate the equal protection clause of the Constitution. I guess what we have to say is what part of the Constitution hasn’t this congress and Senate violated.

Barack Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and all the other politicians in DC have no respect for Our Constitution or any of our Laws, they believe they are exempt.

Pat Cadell (Democrat pollster) on Sean Hannity’s show right now:

His analysis of the mood of the country right now:

“Stop the machine in 2010, get rid of them all in 2012!”

  9. The 2010 Tax Revolt is well underway. These Democrats have no idea what’s about to hit them.

A few practical ideas to get started:

    1) do not file until roughly 11:45 of 4/15. Overload their system with as much to do in as short a time as possible. If you’re planning on a tax refund, budget responsibly as you won’t be getting that money for some time (one could argue if at all)

    2) file with all paper forms; do not use e-file…that’s less work for them. Remember, these are liberal, union-minded bureaucrats, people who hate to work. Flood them with it.

    3) Claim as many exemptions as you can. I personally plan on claiming 1,000 dependents.

    FINANCIAL SHOCK & AWE.

  10. After reading about Dr. Orly and Charles Lincoln…..I would like to thank Orly and Mr. Lincoln for all the hard work they have done to expose O. Had it not been for Orly and judge Land in Columbus Ga. the majority of the local citizens would be ignorant of the fact of eligibility. The news opened eyes and minds…For that I will always be grateful to Orly, no matter the outcome the exposure was necessary and needed. Yes, as O takes a dive I will always be grateful to Orly…God bless

John…Why even file unless you are getting money back??? If you file then you are admitting you owe them something……do not file!!!

Carmen…..Just like Tiger Woods…..Orly’s personal life is her own…..she has to answer to her family….NOT US!!

  13. GW crossed the delaware on christmas eve!! Well lets hope for some more magic this year

  14. John Feeny, We are going into 7 wks. of not paying taxes on our business. After 21 yrs. of business. We are claiming as many exemptions possible for employees and they are fine with it. Money talks! The only time we will never need money is when we are in heaven…..

  15. JS, Orly’s personal life is between her and her husband I so agree. Her efforts and fearlessness are greatly appreciated.

    Sticking Up For Our Constitution

GOP senators to force vote on constitutionality of health care reform bill

I just received a release from someone in South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint’s office. Apparently, he and Nevada Sen. John Ensign plan to force a Senate vote on the constitutionality of the Democrats’ health care reform legislation.

You know me — I’m a big fan of DeMint, and of any lawmaker who looks at a piece of legislation regardless of where it originates and asks, before anything else: “Where, exactly, in the Constitution does the federal government have the authority to do this?” It’s a responsible and patriotic mentality we need more and more right now, and it’s an attitude we’ll need just the same–if not more so–once the GOP has retaken the majority.

It came as no surprise to see DeMint’s name attached to this effort. That, in my opinion, says more about Jim DeMint than any single vote or speech or interview or appearance. Anyway, I’ve said enough — here’s the press release:

December 22, 2009 – WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) and John Ensign (R-Nevada), raised a Constitutional Point of Order on the Senate floor against the Democrat health care takeover bill on behalf of the Steering Committee, a caucus of conservative senators. The Senate will vote tomorrow on the bill’s constitutionality.

“I am incredibly concerned that the Democrats’ proposed individual mandate provision takes away too much freedom and choice from Americans across the country,” said Senator Ensign. “As an American, I felt the obligation to stand up for the individual freedom of every citizen to make their own decision on this issue. I don’t believe Congress has the legal authority to force this mandate on its citizens.”

“Forcing every American to purchase a product is absolutely inconsistent with our Constitution and the freedoms our Founding Fathers hoped to protect,” said Senator DeMint. “This is not at all like car insurance, you can choose not to drive but Americans will have no choice whether to buy government-approved insurance. This is nothing more than a bailout and takeover of insurance companies. We’re forcing Americans to buy insurance under penalty of law and then Washington bureaucrats will then dictate what these companies can sell to Americans. This is not liberty, it is tyranny of good intentions by elites in Washington who think they can plan our lives better than we can.”

Americans who fail to buy health insurance, according to the Democrats’ bill, would be subject to financial penalties. The senators believe the bill is unconstitutional because the insurance mandate is not authorized by any of the limited enumerated powers granted to the federal government. The individual mandate also likely violates the “takings” clause of the 5th Amendment.

The Democrats’ healthcare reform bill requires Americans to buy health insurance “whether or not they ever visit a doctor, get a prescription or have an operation.” If an American chooses not to buy health insurance coverage, they will face rapidly increasing taxes that will rise to $750 or 2% of their taxable income, whichever is greater.

The Congressional Budget Office once stated “A mandate requiring all individuals to purchase health insurance would be an unprecedented form of federal action. The government has never required people to buy any good or service as a condition of lawful residence in the United States.”

A legal study by scholars at the nonpartisan Heritage Foundation concluded: “An individual mandate to enter into a contract with or buy a particular product from a private party, with tax penalties to enforce it, is unprecedented– not just in scope but in kind–and unconstitutional as a matter of first principles and under any reasonable reading of judicial precedents.”

Obviously, it’s not going to pass. But this is exactly what I was talking about when I came up with the Doctrine of Constructive Obstructionism. It’s one thing to say “no” and maintain that stance, but it’s more effective to say “no,” to offer alternatives, to maintain that position of “no,” and consequently to force the opposition to own whatever it is they’re selling.

In this case, Jim DeMint and John Ensign are putting the Democrats in the place where they will directly countermand the very same United States Constitution which they have sworn to uphold. They will either have to argue that forcing Americans to carry health insurance or face fines and imprisonment is somehow constitutional–good luck–or they will have to agree that the measure runs afoul of the Constitution, and yet support it anyway.

This is exactly the kind of thing we need to see from the Republican Party. On one side, it’s a great political move, as it goes a long way to show that the GOP can be a political vehicle for constitutional conservatives. More importantly, however, it’s the right thing to do — and that’s something we don’t see a whole lot of on Capitol Hill.

As you call your own senators about health care reform, put a call in or send an e-mail to the offices of Jim DeMint and John Ensign. Sticking up for the Constitution is more than deserving of a “thank you.”

  17. BTW…..Ensign is my Senator……he works for the people…..unlike “Dirty Harry Reid”…..I could care less what he does in his personal life as long as it doesn’t affect me and my family!

  18. Jim DeMint and John Ensign woohoo!! We will remember you two!!
