Blagojevich trial, Rod not called to stand yet, Rezko and Levine not called by prosecution
Rod Blagojevich was not called to the witness stand yesterday. Tony Rezko and Stuart Levine were not called by the prosecution. This still smells badly to me and I believe the fix was in on this trial years ago. Blagojevich attorney comments from yesterday, July 20, 2010.

“But in a stunning twist as his time to take the witness stand came, Blagojevich’s attorneys told U.S. District Judge James Zagel on Tuesday that the ex-governor would not testify and that they were prepared to rest their case without calling a single witness, sources told the Tribune. After conferring that message privately to Zagel and prosecutors in a lengthy sidebar, the defense team was told by the judge to mull the decision overnight.
The decision means Blagojevich won’t be able to play any undercover recordings that he felt backed up his denials of wrongdoing. Last week, the judge took parts of two days to decide what recordings could be played for the jury by the defense, though he blocked many of the ones it sought to air.
A number of sources said several factors went into the sudden reversal of course.
Blagojevich’s lawyers believed prosecutors had held back part of their case against the former governor to use against him in what promised to be a bruising cross-examination by Assistant U.S. Attorney Reid Schar, who glared toward the defense table after learning of the decision.
The attorneys also were operating under the belief that if Blagojevich testified, convicted fundraiser Antoin “Tony” Rezko, who has cooperated with the government, was likely to be called as a powerful rebuttal witness by prosecutors. Sources have said Rezko, who allegedly helped Blagojevich scheme to make money by leveraging the powers of his office, had not been prepared by prosecutors to testify but was on notice that he could very likely be called to the stand on short order.”
“”Listen, they told us they were going to bring on Rezko,” Adam Sr. said of the prosecution. “They told us they were going to bring on (convicted political insider Stuart) Levine. They told us they were going to bring on all these witnesses and they didn’t do it. They did not bring them on.””

My experience with the media reporting of courtroom drama is that they rarely get it right. I have watched many examinations of witnesses in criminal trials and when I read a reporter’s version of what occurred on the witness stand most times it was like he or she was watching a different trial.
I have a hard time believing reporters’ versions of what exactly is occurring in a trial. I need to observe the proceedings for myself in order to determine what exactly is going on.
It may well be that prosecutors have held back counting on Blago to testify.
It is true that in a case this big with a highly educated and experienced defendant, the jury likely draw a neg. conclusion about Blago not testifying.
I believe I heard on Hannity that the Judge would not allow Blago to call witnesses before testifying himself. Has that been verified?
I do believe that the prosecution is trying to protect Obama.

I still believe that the prosecutioned rested because they knew Obama’s name would come up and further expose him in this case. Also it would have allowed a cross examination by the defence exposing the same.
Cherry picking recordings is only done for one reason, to hide the real information which would skew the outcome. When an engineer does this, we terminate their employment, when a judge or lawyer does it its called strategy.

Taking free shots at their evidence in the media since his arrest. All the while knowing they would go for the knock out , he faked them out with his bravado.

I am not an engineer …. my degree is in Economics and Commerce. However, my husband is an aeronautical engineer.
My feel on the subject of Stephen Chu having anything to do with the Macondo well happened to be that he should have been kept out of it. However, the great Nobel Prize winner for doing nothing, put Chu who had also won a Nobel Prize in charge of the operation. The Richard Cranium knows absolutely nothing about engineering, and this article shows that the O regime has been interfering in such a way that the capping of the well has taken longer than necessary, and the resultant damage from the oil spill was also unnecessary.

You once said to me, there is no such thing as a dumb question.
Having said that, I have a question.
In a case such as Blago, a ring of crimes consisting of many ring leader participants and recorded of such crimes, why would a judge not allow all evidence such as in this case, all the tapes and recordings, into the court room? That makes no sense to me, unless of course corruption is in play.
In my non-legal analysis, I compare this case to that of a drug ring case. If the FBI or ATF busted them and had recordings, would they allow only small parts of the evidence released that only was limited to the defendant and not all those involved? In my opinion, not only would they release all evidence, they would have already arresrted all those involved.
Maybe its just my way of thinking as I have never heard of such in the past.

TBI leads probe of Monroe County Election Commission official’s death

MADISONVILLE — A Monroe County deputy has been suspended in connection with the investigation into the case of an election official whose body was believed to be found in the trunk of a burning car.
Kenny Hope was placed on administrative leave with pay, according to Monroe County Sheriff Bill Bivens. He would not discuss the reason for the suspension or details of the case, in which a body believed to be that of county election commission chairman Jim Miller
was found in the burning car Saturday night.
Meanwhile, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has officially taken the lead in the investigation into the apparent slaying of Jim Miller, the Monroe County Election Commission chairman.
Family members believe Miller is the person who was found in the trunk of his burning car Saturday evening, although authorities have yet to confirm this to the public. Law enforcement are awaiting the results of an autopsy to confirm the identity.
A TBI spokesman issued the following statement: “The district attorney general requested TBI to begin investigating Monday. Our agent has been assigned the case and is beginning his investigation. No further details will be released until the investigation is continued. Thanks for your patience and understanding.”
Miller was a life-long resident of Sweetwater. For more than 20 years he was the president of Jim Miller Excavating Co., which did environmental remediation of underground petroleum storage tanks and other excavations. He served as 1st District chairman of the Republican Party.

Here you go again. Especially when pontificating on areas outside your expertise, you conflate multiple things.
What Aussie said was essentially true. What AT said was largely true. Neither of which in any way vindicates Matt Simmons. Neither of which supports the level of un-informed hyperventilation you have been posting.
Yes Obama and his administration are crooks and are in this thing up to their eyeballs. They are certainly culpable for an inept response, and PROBABLY for making the crisis worse on purpose. And they MAY be at least partially behind instigating the event in the first place.
BP may or may not be to blame. BP may or may not have done all they could with as much haste as necessary. One reason we don’t know how much blame to assign BP is that we don’t know to what extent they were/are passive patsys vs. active wrong-doers.
But right now, we need to focus more energy on the mitigation and cleanup and not so much on immature theories of well behavior and seabed leaks and other imaginary ghosts.
On the flip side, not to say the ghosts may BECOME real later, but not right now, today.

Amendment Slipped Into Health Care Legislation Would Track, Tax Coin and Bullion Transactions
Those already outraged by the president’s health care legislation now have a new bone of contention — a scarcely noticed tack-on provision to the law that puts gold coin buyers and sellers under closer government scrutiny.
Section 9006 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will amend the Internal Revenue Code to expand the scope of Form 1099. Currently, 1099 forms are used to track and report the miscellaneous income associated with services rendered by independent contractors or self-employed individuals.
Starting Jan. 1, 2012, Form 1099s will become a means of reporting to the Internal Revenue Service the purchases of all goods and services by small businesses and self-employed people that exceed $600 during a calendar year. Precious metals such as coins and bullion fall into this category and coin dealers have been among those most rankled by the change.

This video is word for word spot-on for the first 7 minutes. The last few seconds get lost in space, primarily because the video was from some days ago and the situation has changed now.

Why didn’t federal officials implement an oil spill clean up plan they’ve had on the books since 1994 as soon as possible after crude began pumping into the Gulf of Mexico following the explosion and sinking of BP’s Deepwater Horizon drilling platform 53 miles south of Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico?
The Mobile Register reports that Ron Gouget, who formerly managed the oil spill cleanup department of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, as well as a similar unit for the state of Louisiana, is criticizing the Obama White House’s failure to act according to existing government plans in the event of a spill in the area now being deluged with thousands of barrels of crude oil every day.

That means that there is de facto no right to privacy and a government bureaucrat decides what can and cannot be “reviewed” by the authorities. Currently, the records are maintained for a period of six months but there is a drive to make the retention period even longer.”
