Glenn Beck Boston bombing announcement, April 22, 2013, Saudi National Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi, Government sources, Documents, FBI informants, Alharbi given terrorist status

” the FBI reviewed its records and determined that in early 2011, a foreign government asked the FBI for information about Tamerlan Tsarnaev. The request stated that it was based on information that he was a follower of radical Islam and a strong believer, and that he had changed drastically since 2010 as he prepared to leave the United States for travel to the country’s region to join unspecified underground groups.”…FBI press release April 19, 2013

***  12:30 PM update below  ***

From Glenn Beck live Monday, April 22, 2013.

On Tuesday April 16, 2013, the NCTC issued an event file for deportation of Saudi National Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi.

212 3B status – proven terrorist status.

Solid evidence required.

Next John Kerry met with a Saudi representative in private.

Then the significance of Alharbi is downgraded.

Wednesday, the file on Saudi National Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi is modified with the 212 3B status being removed and the deportation order rescinded.

The Saudi National Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi had been on a terrorist watch list but was given a special student status.

The DHS told the media that the other Saudi being held was being deported.

The other Saudi had a student visa that allowed him to live in Finley, Ohio.

Beck just said that they are working on the family connections and there is more to come.

***  Update  ***

To clarify what was reported live as Glenn Beck spoke earlier:

“Background points:

  • A Saudi national originally identified as a “person of interest” in the Boston Marathon bombing was set to be deported under section 212 3B — “Security and related grounds” — “Terrorist activities” after the bombing
  • As the story gained traction, TheBlaze’s Chief Content Officer Joel Cheatwood received word that the government may not deport the Saudi national, originally identified as Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi
  • Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano refused to answer questions on the subject when confronted by Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) on Capitol Hill.
  • An ICE official said a different Saudi national is in custody, but is “in no way” connected to the bombings.
  • A congressional source, however, says that the file on Alharbi was created, that he was “linked” in some way to the Boston bombings (though it is unclear how), and that documents showing all this have been sent to Congress.
  • Key congressmen of the Committee on Homeland Security request a classified briefing with Napolitano
  • Fox News’ Todd Starnes reports that Alharbi was allegedly flagged on a terrorist watch list and granted a student visa without being properly vetted.  Sources close to the investigation also told him the Saudi is still set for deportation.
  • New information provided to TheBlaze reveals Alharbi’s file was altered early Wednesday evening to disassociate him from the initial charges
  • Sources say the Saudi’s student visa specifically allows him to go to school in Findlay, Ohio, though he appears to have an apartment in Boston, Massachusetts
  • Sources tell us this will most likely now be kicked from the DHS to the DOJ and labeled an ongoing investigation that can no longer be discussed.”

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, unlike his brother Dzhokhar, had a green card and was not a US citizen.

From the Chicago Tribune April 21, 2013.

“FBI’s handling of Boston suspect comes under scrutiny”

“U.S. lawmakers asked on Sunday why the FBI had failed to spot the danger from one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects, and they complained it was one of a series of cases in which someone the agency had investigated had later taken part in attacks.

House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul wrote to the FBI and other officials asking why Tamerlan Tsarnaev did not raise suspicions after Russia asked the bureau to investigate him two years ago.

“Because if he was on the radar and they let him go, he’s on the Russians’ radar, why wasn’t a flag put on him, some sort of customs flag?,” McCaul, a Texas Republican, said on CNN’s “State of the Union” program. “And I’d like to know what intelligence Russia has on him as well.”

The FBI interviewed Tsarnaev, the elder of two ethnic Chechen brothers suspected in the Boston bombing, in 2011 shortly after Russia’s Federal Security Service asked the agency to look into him as a possible Islamist radical who might soon travel to Russia.

Asked on Sunday about lawmakers’ concerns, the FBI said it had no further comment beyond a statement it issued on Friday night when it said it “did not find any terrorism activity, domestic or foreign” after speaking to Tsarnaev and checking his travel records and Internet activity.

Less than a year after the FBI interview, Tsarnaev did in fact travel to the volatile Dagestan region of southern Russia on a six-month trip out of the United States. Much of what Tsarnaev did on that trip is still a mystery to U.S. investigators.

Neighbors contacted by Reuters say Tsarnaev spent at least a few weeks in Dagestan, a predominantly Muslim region in the North Caucasus mountains where Islamist militants have long been a thorn in the side of governments in Moscow.

Republican Representative Peter King of New York told “Fox News Sunday” he wondered why the FBI did not take more action after Tsarnaev returned to the United States last year and put statements on his website “talking about radical imams.””

“One U.S. counterterrorism official urged perspective. “If we thoroughly investigated every one of these terrorism tips we get, we’d never get anything done,” he said.

A senior U.S. law enforcement source said that the number of tips received from Russian intelligence to the FBI each year is “not that many.”

But nationally, he said, the FBI receives at least 100 terrorism tips a day – from the public, local and state law enforcement, other federal agencies and the intelligence community.”

“The 26-year-old “appears to be the fifth person since September 11, 2001, to participate in terror attacks despite being under investigation by the FBI,” the pair said in a joint letter.”

From Breitbart April 17, 2013.

“TERRORISM EXPERT: SAUDI NATIONAL QUESTIONED OVER BOSTON BOMBS TO BE DEPORTED”
“Steven Emerson of the Investigative Project revealed on Hannity’s Wednesday evening cable show that an official at ICE told him the Saudi national first questioned by authorities about the deadly bombings at the Boston Marathon on Monday is set to be deported.”

“”Remember the Saudi that they had arrested or at least initially detained?” Emerson asked. “It was determined that he had no involvement and they made a statement about it to that effect? Well, I just learned from my own sources he’s now going to be deported on national security grounds Tuesday,” Emerson said, later adding, “This is the way things are done with Saudi Arabia. You don’t arrest their citizens. You deport them, because they don’t want them to be embarrassed.”

It is not known if this individual is a material witness, but questions remain as to whether or not the Saudi National, who was on a student visa, gave authorities any information to lead them to the suspects they are looking at now.”
