Tryon Resolves, Declaration of Independence, NC Hornets Nest in Revolution

Almost a year before the US Declaration of Independence was signed, a group of patriots in Tryon County NC, just west of Charlotte, signed The Tryon Resolves. The Tryon Resolves, signed in August 14, 1775, was a list of grievances against the British government in response to the battle of Lexington. During the revolution, the area around Charlotte was referred to as a hornet’s nest because of the fierce opposition the british encountered. In fact, one of the worst defeats the british suffered was at the Battle of Kings Mountain, just west of Charlotte. Here is the text of The Tryon Resolves, followed by a photo of the signatures.
The unprecedented, barbarous and bloody actions committed by British troops on our American brethren near Boston, on 19th April and 20th of May last, together with the hostile operations and treacherous designs now carrying on, by the tools of ministerial vengeance, for the subjugation of all British America, suggest to us the painful necessity of having recourse to arms in defense of our National freedom and constitutional rights, against all invasions; and at the same time do solemnly engage to take up arms and risk our lives and our fortunes in maintaining the freedom of our country whenever the wisdom and counsel of the Continental Congress or our Provincial Convention shall declare it necessary; and this engagement we will continue in for the preservation of those rights and liberties which the principals of our Constitution and the laws of God, nature and nations have made it our duty to defend. We therefore, the subscribers, freeholders and inhabitants of Tryon County, do here by faithfully unite ourselves under the most solemn ties of religion, honor and love to our county, firmly to resist force by force, and hold sacred till a reconciliation shall take place between Great Britain and America on Constitutional principals, which we most ardently desire, and do firmly agree to hold all such persons as inimical to the liberties of America who shall refuse to sign this association.

Enron, US president, media bias, NY Times

I have seen this email before and I received it again yesterday and thought it was worth posting. You won’t read about this in the mainstream media. You will read malicious, smear stories about an honorable man, John McCain, in the NY Times.

How Enron Worked the President!

(This is an interesting bit of information that you don’t hear much about.)

1. Enron’s chairman did meet with the president and the vice president in the Oval Office.

2. Enron gave $420,000 to the president’s party over three years.

3. It donated $100,000 to the president’s inauguration festivities.

4. The Enron chairman stayed at the White House 11 times.

5. The corporation had access to the administration at its highest level and even enlisted the Commerce and State Departments to grease deals for it.

6. The taxpayer-supported Export-Import Bank subsidized Enron for more than $600 million in just one transaction.

Scandalous!!


BUT…the president under whom all this happened WASN’T George W. Bush.

It was President Bill Clinton!

Declaration of Independence, July 4 1776, We hold these truths to be self evident

 Ever since I first read the US Declaration of Independence as a child, I have loved the message, wording and spirit of this incredible declaration. I still have a copy that I framed as a child and I still look upon it with reverence. I especially love the paragraph beginning, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” We should treasure these words and the entire document, never take it for granted and reread it as often as possible. My ancestor was a signer of the Tryon Resolves, almost a year before the US declaration. That fact makes the US declaration even more special for me. Here is the US Declaration of Independence:

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America

When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.

He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.

He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their Public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.

He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.

He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected, whereby the Legislative Powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.

He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.

He has obstructed the Administration of Justice by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary Powers.

He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance.

He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.

He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil Power.

He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.

He has plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.

He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation, and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & Perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.

He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.

He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.

In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our British brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.

We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these united Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States, that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. — And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.

Castro, Cuban Missle Crisis, nuclear war threat

I can remember, as many people over 50 can, the Cuban Missle Crisis. We were all glued to the tv sets listening to president Kennedy make his announcements and waiting for the reaction of Soviet Premier Nikita Krushchev. These were very tense and scary moments. In school, we had been drilled to prepare for nuclear attack. I doubt if our preparations would have made any difference, but I suppose it made some feel better. Many people had built or considered building bomb shelters and stocked them with supplies. Where I grew up, we were considered to be in the top 20 sites for attack due to our vast fuel tank farms. It was not a reassuring thought.

The last major player in the potential nuclear disaster drama is resigning from offfice. Fidel Castro, on February 19, 2008, announced he is resigning. I would like to add one last thought regarding the missle crisis. The world owes Nikita Krushchev a debt of gratitude for responding to president Kennedy’s demand in a rational manner. Krushchev was known for slamming his fists down when he disagreed with something.

Fidel Castro, on February 19, 2008, announced that he is retiring. Castro, a major player in the cold war, cuban missle crisis and Bay of Pigs invasion, outlasted his contemporaries. Castro was also part of many conspiracy theories concerning the assasination of John Kennedy. Castro, it could be argued, was somewhat pro US in his early years and spent some time  here. Hillary Clinton and her presidential, or even candidate chance. Many of us are wondering the same thing. Is it over for Hillary Clinton. Obviously by the numbers, it is too early to tell. But, is the handwriting on the wall. I keep hearing people from diverse backgrounds say and discern the same thing, that Barack Obama my be more electable.

Andrew Sullivan of The daily Dish blog isn’t holding back, Here is a recent post of his headed, Why she’s losing, referring to Hillary Clinton losing ground to Barack Obama and why. Here is an exerpt:

“There is a huge desire among many independents and conservatives in this country to punish the GOP for their betrayal of core conservative principles and basic competence and decency these past few years. These folks are plentiful enough to jolt the Republicans toward McCain. But a lot of these conservatives and independents like Obama because he’s obviously a smart, decent guy, because electing him would kill off Jesse Jackson style racial politics for a while, and because he seems like a liberal pragmatist who’s interested in getting things done. A lot of people will tolerate a move back to the center, even the left, if it means an end to this awful period in history and a fresh start for the country.

That’s my sense of things anyway. The Democrats are beginning to realize their choice is between a loss and a landslide victory that could change American politics for a generation. Moreover, I don’t think Obama is an ideological figure who would govern in ways that would affront the center. I can’t know that, of course. But there is a reason George W. Bush was so dismissive of him. Bush also knows that Obama is a rebuke. Clinton, in contrast, is a peer.

There really is no reason to vote for the Clintons again. It’s all about them; and this time, it really should be about the country.

Rush Limbaugh, global warming, Al Gore, climate stations, global warming myths

If you only listen to Rush Limbaugh for one topic, global warming, it is well worth your time. Rush Limbaugh is one of a few credible sources of information on factual data concerning alleged global warming. As Rush says, follow the money. Just a few years ago the so called experts were warning of global cooling and everyday we are bombarded with more misinformation and exagerations. The temperature change increase seems to change daily depending on which expert or politician is speaking. It is the policy of fear mongering and using political platforms to save the helpless populace.

Listen to the Rush Limbaugh show as often as you can and of course go to his website and check out the links on the global warming myth. Here is an example of a recent link on Rush’s site:

I always recommend that people search for the truth and facts. Don’t believe everything you read or here, such as from Al Gore. Just for fun, about a year ago I checked on the average temperatures in Antartica. Check this out for yourself. Check out the average summer temperature in Antartica. Keep your eye on the truth.

Rush Limbaugh, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John McCain, Mike Huckabee, Carbonite

Most people either love or hate Rush Limbaugh. I love what he does. My experience has been that he attempts to base his opinions on facts. Is he biased, of course. Everyone is. Is he an entertainer. Yes by his own admission. I have listened to Rush Limbaugh for many years. I have also listened to NPR for many years.

If you want complete analysis of politicians like Hillary Clinton, Barrack Obama, John McCain or Mike Huckabee or want to find out about the latest and best quality products, listen to Rush. I find that most people who claim they don’t like Rush Limbaugh, have either not listened to his show or listened very little. Of course there are people out there that don’t care about the truth. They of course hate Rush and the truth.

I have been listening to Rush talk about Carbonite for awhile. Carbonite is an internet backup service for business and individuals. I glanced at the writeup and it sounds like a great idea. Off site backup is a great idea.
