There are numerous variations of the AP January 2015 jobs report from around February 7, 2015.

The Greensboro News Record regurgitated their own version in print. I could not find an online version so the print edition is provided in full below.

The News Record has been diligent in fact checking the employment data and record of the NC Republicans in power but when it comes to Obama and the national economy, anything goes.

I am disappointed that instead of fact checking the AP article and presenting the truth, they regurgitated it.

From the Greensboro News Record February 7, 2015.

“Job gains reflect growing recovery
WASHINGTON — A resurgent job market in January signaled that the U.S. economy is finally regaining the kind of strength typical of a healthy recovery — with hiring accelerating, wages rising and people who had given up their job hunts starting to look again.
Freer-spending consumers and steady economic expansion have boosted hiring for the past three months to the most robust pace in 17 years.
In January, employers added 257,000 jobs, after 329,000 in December and a sizzling 423,000 jobs in November, the government reported Friday. The November and December gains were much higher than the government had first estimated.
“The labor market was about the last thing to recover from the Great Recession, and in the last six months it has picked up steam,” said Bill Hampel, chief economist at the Credit Union National Association. “The benefits for the middle class are now solidifying.”
The average hourly wage rose 12 cents to $24.75 in January, a jump of 0.5 percent — the sharpest since 2008. In the past year, hourly pay, which has long been stagnant, has risen 2.2 percent. That’s well above inflation, which rose just 0.8 percent in 2014.
The accelerating job and pay growth now make it more likely that the Federal Reserve will begin raising the short-term interest rate it controls by midyear.
Paul Ashworth, chief U.S. economist at Capital Economics, predicts that the Fed will raise rates from record lows in June.
Investors responded to the better-than-expected figures by selling U.S. Treasurys, sending yields up, a sign that many think a Fed rate hike might be more imminent than they thought before. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 1.94 percent from 1.81 percent shortly before the jobs report was released.
Stock investors appeared nervous about a Fed rate increase, which could pull down stock prices. The Dow Jones industrial average closed down 60 points, or 0.3 percent, to 17,824.
The unemployment rate rose last month to 5.7 percent from 5.6 percent. But that occurred for a good reason: More than 700,000 Americans — the most in six years — began looking for jobs. Not all of them found work, which swelled the number of unemployed. The influx of job hunters suggested that Americans have grown more confident about their prospects.
Fueling the burst of hiring has been a pickup in economic growth and falling gas prices that offered Americans more money to spend. The economy expanded at a 4.8 percent annual rate during spring and summer, the fastest six-month pace in a decade, before slowing to a still-decent 2.6 percent pace in the final three months of 2014.
There are now 3.2 million more Americans earning paychecks than there were 12 months ago. That additional cash tends to boost consumer spending, which drives about 70 percent of economic growth.
Americans are feeling better about the economy. Consumer confidence jumped in January to its highest level in 10 years, according to a survey by the University of Michigan. And consumers increased their spending during the final three months of last year at the fastest pace in nearly nine years.
A more confident, free-spending consumer could lend a spark that had been missing for most of the 5½-year-old recovery. Americans have been largely holding the line on spending and trying to shrink debt loads. Signs that they’re poised to spend more have boosted optimism that the economy will expand over 3 percent this year for the first time in a decade.
Retailers added 45,900 jobs in January, hotels and restaurants 37,100.
Though jobs in those industries typically offer lower wages, companies have boosted pay as they have scrambled to fill openings. Hourly pay has risen 3 percent in the past year for retailers and 3.4 percent for hotel and restaurant employees.”

The employment numbers used below come straight from the US Labor Department.

It is important to note that every January the Labor Dept. rectifies ( A term used in “1984” ) the data.

Beside each January you will find “1 : Data affected by changes in population controls.”

First lie/inaccuracy: There were 3 million not 3.2 million more people working since last January.

Error of omission: Over 1.3 million of those gains in employment in the last year went to Hispanic/Latinos.

Misleading: “The labor market was about the last thing to recover from the Great Recession, and in the last six months it has picked up steam,” “The benefits for the middle class are now solidifying.”

Misleading:  “More than 700,000 Americans — the most in six years — began looking for jobs. Not all of them found work, which swelled the number of unemployed. The influx of job hunters suggested that Americans have grown more confident about their prospects.” That is all conjecture. Remember from above: “1 : Data affected by changes in population controls.”

Did you know?

Of the approx. 6 million new employments since Obama took office in January 2009, 4,511,000 were Hispanic/Latino!

We have barely, if at all,  recovered all of the jobs lost during the recession and 75% of the job growth went to Hispanic/Latinos!!

The large numbers of young people entering the labor force are the reason that the percent of population working has dropped under Obama. I will examine this more in detail and report soon.

Approx. 9 million people net have entered the population counted by the BLS for employment population since Obama took office. That is the people turning 16 years old subtracted by deaths. That is the reason for the increase in those not in the labor force, not baby boomers as some would have you believe.

There was an increase of over 12 million not in the labor force since Obama took office.

According to Gallup CEO Jim Clifton, the unemployment rate is a big lie.

“The Big Lie: 5.6% Unemployment”

“Here’s something that many Americans — including some of the smartest and most educated among us — don’t know: The official unemployment rate, as reported by the U.S. Department of Labor, is extremely misleading.

Right now, we’re hearing much celebrating from the media, the White House and Wall Street about how unemployment is “down” to 5.6%. The cheerleading for this number is deafening. The media loves a comeback story, the White House wants to score political points and Wall Street would like you to stay in the market.

None of them will tell you this: If you, a family member or anyone is unemployed and has subsequently given up on finding a job — if you are so hopelessly out of work that you’ve stopped looking over the past four weeks — the Department of Labor doesn’t count you as unemployed. That’s right. While you are as unemployed as one can possibly be, and tragically may never find work again, you are not counted in the figure we see relentlessly in the news — currently 5.6%. Right now, as many as 30 million Americans are either out of work or severely underemployed. Trust me, the vast majority of them aren’t throwing parties to toast “falling” unemployment.

There’s another reason why the official rate is misleading. Say you’re an out-of-work engineer or healthcare worker or construction worker or retail manager: If you perform a minimum of one hour of work in a week and are paid at least $20 — maybe someone pays you to mow their lawn — you’re not officially counted as unemployed in the much-reported 5.6%. Few Americans know this.

Yet another figure of importance that doesn’t get much press: those working part time but wanting full-time work. If you have a degree in chemistry or math and are working 10 hours part time because it is all you can find — in other words, you are severely underemployed — the government doesn’t count you in the 5.6%. Few Americans know this.

There’s no other way to say this. The official unemployment rate, which cruelly overlooks the suffering of the long-term and often permanently unemployed as well as the depressingly underemployed, amounts to a Big Lie.

And it’s a lie that has consequences, because the great American dream is to have a good job, and in recent years, America has failed to deliver that dream more than it has at any time in recent memory. A good job is an individual’s primary identity, their very self-worth, their dignity — it establishes the relationship they have with their friends, community and country. When we fail to deliver a good job that fits a citizen’s talents, training and experience, we are failing the great American dream.”

The consumer spending noted in the AP report is inaccurate as well, but after seeing the jobs misportrayed, you will not find that surprising.

Reread the article above and see if it squares with the facts and let those reporting this Orwellian crap know that you do not appreciate it.

As noted above, there are millions of young people entering the labor force each year and getting disproportionately clobbered by the economy and jobs market. More on this to come.

***  Footnote added 9:45 AM  ***

The Labor Dept. shows approx 15 and a half million more people added to the employment population since Jan 2009.

Obviously some of those are aliens, legal or illegal.

***  Update Feb 23, 7:40 AM  ***

I meant to include this important “rectification” to the AP article.

“The labor market was about the last thing to recover from the Great Recession, and in the last six months it has picked up steam,”
There were approx. 1.8 more people employed in the last 6 months. 50 percent of those, approx. 900,000, were Hispanic/Latino.

75 percent of Obama jobs added since Jan. 2009 have gone to Hispanics and Latinos.

Don’t take my word for it.

Look it up on the BLS website.

Of the total of 6,049,000 more Americans employed since January 2006, 4,511,000 was for Hispanics and Latinos.

Why is this not being reported?

The Wall Street Journal reported on December 5, 2014.

“The economy has 5.7 million more jobs today than when Mr. Obama took office in January of 2009. That puts his total job creation ahead of presidents John Kennedy,Gerald Ford, and George H.W. Bush, who each served one term or less. It also puts him well ahead of President George W. Bush, whose final year in office also comprised the beginning to the longest and deepest recession since the Great Depression.”

“The labor market is clearly improving, but due in large part to the terrible economy when Mr. Obama took office, his presidency will probably be unable to catch up with those who presided during job booms.”

Why is the WSJ making excuses for Obama?

They mention the fact that congress is more responsible but fail to mention that the Democrats took control of both houses in Jan. 2007 and that is when the economy began going downhill.

Why doesn’t the WSJ mention that 75 % of the jobs added went to Hispanics and Latinos?

Here is a good article about the growth in the Hispanic workforce.

From the Center for Immigration Studies June 2014.

“Government data show that since 2000 all of the net gain in the number of working-age (16 to 65) people holding a job has gone to immigrants (legal and illegal). This is remarkable given that native-born Americans accounted for two-thirds of the growth in the total working-age population. Though there has been some recovery from the Great Recession, there were still fewer working-age natives holding a job in the first quarter of 2014 than in 2000, while the number of immigrants with a job was 5.7 million above the 2000 level.”

What I am about to report to you comes straight from the US Labor Department BLS.

I do not make up numbers and I endeavor to report the facts.

A big lie is being repeated.

The impact of baby boomers on employment.

The baby boomers have zero impact on the percent of population employed.

Zero!

The mainstream media, including CNBC has done their best to protect Obama and obfuscate the employment  situation.

Last Friday, after the January jobs data was released, Chief Economist at Goldman Sachs Jan Hatzius was interviewed.

Mr. Hatzius referred to the 4 percent drop in the percent of population working since 2006.

He stated that the baby boomers could account for 2 percent of that.

I carried on an email exchange with Jan Hatzius over the weekend.

He stayed with his 2 percent assertion but did state that we need jobs.

From Citizen Wells February 9, 2015.

“The problem is clearly not baby boomers.

The problem is that the Obama administration has been focusing on trying to recover jobs lost during the recession.

What is not being addressed or reported is the number of new workers being added.

Each year since 2006 we have added a net average of approx. 1.5 million workers over age 16.

Each year we have added approx 3.9 new 16 year olds.

Each year we have averaged approx 2.4 million deaths.

That nets to 1.5 million.

That totals approx. 12 million new workers since 2006.

And God only knows how many new illegal alien workers we have.

Choose your own number.

This easily explains the drop in the percent of population working.

I would bet it is even worse.”

https://citizenwells.wordpress.com/2015/02/09/drop-in-percent-of-population-working-easily-explained-not-baby-boomers-1-5-million-net-new-working-age-each-year-illegal-immigrants-not-enough-jobs-added-trying-to-replace-jobs-lost-not-keeping/

It is worse!

Since 2006, the Hispanic/Latino employed number has skyrocketed 26 percent!

The black employed number has jumped 10 percent.

Are you ready?

The white employed number has not increased!

In fact it has dropped slightly.

There were 118,148 employed in January 2006.

There were 118,035 employed in January 2015.

From the Citizen Wells article above we learn that approx. 12 million people were added to the labor force via the net of the population becoming 16 and those dying each year.

Approx 1.5 million were added each year excluding immigration.

This accounts for much of the drop in the percent of population working since 2006.

It also adds credence to the following.

From the Center for Immigration Studies August 2014.

“An analysis of government data by the Center for Immigration Studies shows that, since 2000, all of the net increase in the number of working-age (16 to 65) people holding a job in North Carolina has gone to immigrants (legal and illegal).
This is the case even though the native-born accounted for 61 percent of growth in the state’s total working-age population.”

She warns about the impact of illegal immigrants on black employment.

“People 55 to 64 years old, the first forget-about-retirement generation, are staying in the labor force to an ever greater degree. In 1992, only 56.2% were still in the labor force, in 2012, 64.5% were. Similar for older folks. The participation rate for people 65 to 74 years old jumped from 16.3% to 26.8%. Was anyone paying attention surprised when Brian Williams of NBC was caught in a lie?

No!

It is what we have come to expect from the mainstream media.

The mantra of the left.

The end justifies the means.

Just yesterday Goldman’s chief economist Jan Hatzius appeared on CNBC.

From Zero Hedge February 6, 2015.

“Following the January jobs report, Goldman’s chief economist Jan Hatzius appeared on CNBC but instead of joining Steve Liesman in singing the praises of the “strong” the report (which apparently missed the memo about  the  crude collapse), he decided to do something totally different and instead emphasize the two series that none other than Zero Hedge has been emphasizing for years as the clearest indication of what is really happening with the US labor market: namely the recession-level civilian employment to population ratio and the paltry annual increase in average hourly earnings.

This is what Hatzius said (2:40 into the clip):

The employment to population ratio is still 4% below where it was in 2006. You can explain 2% of that with the aging of the population that still leaves quite a lot of room potentially, and the wage numbers are telling us we are just not that close, although we are getting closer.””

I sent the following email to  Jan Hatzius.

I have not yet received a response.

Hi.
I have a math, computer science & business background.
I am also one of the baby boomers.
You recently appeared on CNBC & stated:

The employment to population ratio is still 4% below where it was in 2006. You can explain 2% of that with the aging of the population that still leaves quite a lot of room potentially, and the wage numbers are telling us we are just not that close, although we are getting closer.”

Would you elaborate on:

“You can explain 2% of that with the aging of the population”

I am preparing an article

 and want to be accurate.

Thanks

Wells

Many in the mainstream media have incorrectly attributed the large drop in the percentage of the population employed to baby boomers. I awarded the Washington Post Orwells for their misleading report.

From Citizen Wells January 20, 2015.

I am going to make this real simple.

Let’s ignore immigrants increasing our work force for the moment.

The baby boomer generation is known for it’s size. However, due to the growth in the US, recent generations are even larger.

Let’s take the example of those turning 65 in 2014, born in 1949 and those turning 22 in 2014, born in 1992. I chose age 22 to account for college even though some of them entered the work force earlier, if they could find a job.

There were  3.56 million people born in the US in 1949. 85 % or 3.026 million are alive.

There were 4.08 million people born in 1992. Probably at least 4 million still alive.

Let’ assume that all of the people who turn 65 next year retire.

That is still a net gain of about a million potential workers.

As we all know, all of those people do not stop working unless they cannot find a job.

From the CBO.

“The resulting rise in the projected rates of labor force participation for older people is noteworthy. For men ages 62 to 64, CBO projects that the rate of labor force participation will rise from about 52 percent in 2012 to about 55 percent in 2022. For men ages 65 to 69, the projected rate rises from about 37 percent in 2012 to about 41 percent in 2022. The changes for women are similar: The projected rate of labor force participation for women ages 62 to 64 rises from about 44 percent to about 48 percent, and for women ages 65 to 69, the projected rate increases from about 28 percent to about 32 percent. In 2022, the FRA will be 67 only for people age 62 or younger in that year. As that group ages and the FRA gradually becomes 67 for all older people, CBO projects that the labor force participation rate for older people will continue to increase, although at a slower pace.”

http://www.cbo.gov/publication/43834

That’s right. You read it correctly.

Men ages 62 to 64:  rate of labor force participation  about 52 percent in 2012.

Men ages 65 to 69:   37 percent in 2012.

Once again I am compelled to award the Washington Post 4 Orwells.

https://citizenwells.wordpress.com/2013/11/09/washington-post-lies-about-baby-boomer-impact-on-labor-force-participation-rate-more-young-people-enter-job-market-than-retire-older-folks-continue-working-intentional-lie-sloppy-reporting-or-cove/

Zero Hedge nails it again.

“A few days ago we disproved, in what we hoped would be the last time, any insinuation that the collapse in the labor force is due to demographics (a topic we had covered before) when we showed that it was just 10 short years ago that the Bureau of Labor Statistics itself was forecasting an increase in the overall participation rate – here we assume logically that America’s demographic profile was known to its labor market experts in 2004 – only to slowly at first, then very fast, revise it ever lower… and still it was unable to catch up to the unfolding gruesome reality.

Yet somehow, so called finance experts, econ PhDs, central planners and other ivory tower dwellers still refuse to let this topic go, and continue to reference the participation rate and demographics in the same sentence. So to truly end any speculation that the plunge in the labor force is due to “old people”, defined as workers 55 and over, retiring, here is a chart (which in an update of a post we didfirst in October 2012 and it took the rest of the media world only 14 months to catch up) of the cumulative job gains broken down by “young”, or those 16-54, vs “old”, those 55 and over.

Spot something wierd?

It seems that the “old” age worker group – that which is supposed to be bleeding workers to retirement – has had zero job losses since the start of the Depression in December 2007, while it was the “younger” workers who according to the BLS’ Household Survey, have hit the labor cliff and seen their number collapse, dropping as much a 6 million, and only slowly rising, with another 3.5 million jobs left to catch up before pre-recession levels are met.”

https://citizenwells.wordpress.com/2014/01/20/labor-force-participation-collapse-from-younger-dropouts-not-retirees-zero-hedge-nails-it-more-younger-people-born-to-replace-older-labor-force-should-be-increasing-not-decreasing/

I would love to hear Mr. Hatzius’ explanation for the baby boomers affecting the percent of population working by 2 percent.

You are reporting that initial claims were the lowest in 15 years with a straight face and  you are not on drugs , you really believe it and you are not part of the Obama camp Orwellian media.

How about giving the public the damn truth!

Just this morning I wrote.

“NC labor force participation rate plummets 5.3 percent since May 2008, Reason for unemployment rate drop, Reason for drop in claims, No more employees left to lay off, NC ninth most populous state”

“Do not be fooled by low information biased media.

Those folks dropping out of the labor force are not mostly older baby boomers.

They are younger people who have given up on finding jobs.

Many of them are not drawing unemployment pay and are not counted in the unemployed numbers.

They also cannot be laid off.

NC is the ninth most populous state and is representative of what is taking place in the US.

Many states have been hit even harder.

From Citizen Wells January 15, 2015.

“Forget the unemployment rate. If you remove enough people from the labor force you will achieve full employment and a low unemployment rate. We have that scenario now. In fact one state, West Virginia, has a labor force participation rate below 50 percent yet the unemployment rate is 6.3 percent.

See what I mean?

The plummet of the labor force participation rate in NC, other states and the US is big news and should be more widely reported.

The percentage of the population working is also important and in some ways more significant.

Since the big news today was the lowest so called initial claims number in 15 years let’s go back to January 2000 and compare the employment to population percent from then to now.

US

Jan 2000     64.6

Dec 2014      59.2

That’s a plummet of 5.4 percent!

NC

Jan 2000     65.1

Dec 2014      56.5

That’s a plummet of 8.6 percent !!!

So much for the improved economy and jobs situation.

I warned you we were in the age of Big Brother and “1984.”

Big Brother

I began warning you in early 2008.

We are living “1984” by George Orwell.

In almost every way that Big Brother lied to the people, we are being lied to.

From The Burning Platform January 16, 2015.

“NO INFLATION UNLESS YOU EAT FOOD, USE WATER, LIVE IN A HOUSE OR APARTMENT, HEAT YOUR HOME, GET SICK, TRAVEL, PAY CAR INSURANCE, GO TO SCHOOL, MAIL LETTERS, OR DO YOUR TAXES”

“Government data reports are so funny. The blaring headlines today tells us that prices dropped in December. We are all saving billions from the drop in oil and gas. Hallelujah!!!

The corporate MSM never digs into the numbers to get the real truth. These reports and their distribution to the sheep are designed to keep you sedated and calm. Facts are not necessary. How this data pertains to your everyday life is not important to the .1% who control the flow of information.

Here is a link to the detailed inflation numbers by category. We already know they massage these numbers to achieve a happy ending, but even the massaged numbers tell an entirely different story than the one peddled to the masses by the government and corporate media.

http://www.bls.gov/news.release/cpi.t07.htm

Below are the annual price increases for items that might impact your life on a daily basis:

Food at home – 3.7%

Food away from home – 3.0%

Meat – 12.7%

Fish and seafood – 5.6%

Eggs – 10.7%

Milk – 5.2%

Fruits & vegetables – 4.1%

Coffee – 4.2%

Butter – 22.5%”

“The credibility of their numbers is highly questionable in that they say health insurance accounts for .75% of a person’s annual budget. They actually have the balls to say health insurance fell by 0.5% over the last year. I’d love to hear from anyone out there whose health insurance premiums fell in the last year. Mine went up by 20%.

Your government keepers will continue to drown you in propaganda and misinformation. But the average person should know they are being lied to.”

NO INFLATION UNLESS YOU EAT FOOD, USE WATER, LIVE IN A HOUSE OR APARTMENT, HEAT YOUR HOME, GET SICK, TRAVEL, PAY CAR INSURANCE, GO TO SCHOOL, MAIL LETTERS, OR DO YOUR TAXES

From Citizen Wells December 30, 2014.

“For weeks I have been preparing articles on the real state of the economy, the non dumbed down, non Orwellian information about jobs, incomes and our national debt crisis and subsequent impending doom.

If I do, how many will read and comprehend it?

It continues to be frustrating, why bother.

Afterall, as I have been reporting here since early 2008, the real problem is our society, dumbed down and spoon fed what to think by our Orwellian government and media.

Orwell nailed it.”

Consider this from “1984.”

“‘Comrades!’ cried an eager youthful voice. ‘Attention, comrades! We have glorious news for you. We have won the battle for production! Returns now completed of the output of all classes of consumption goods show that the standard of living has risen by no less than 20 per cent over the past year. All over Oceania this morning there were irrepressible spontaneous demonstrations when workers marched out of factories and offices and paraded through the streets with banners voicing their gratitude to Big Brother for the new, happy life which his wise leadership has bestowed upon us.”

“Best food investment strategy for average person”

“The average person in the US today is struggling to pay bills and from recent reports is unprepared for an emergency.

One paycheck away from being homeless in many cases.

So for many people, the concerns about where to invest money are nonexistent.

But one of the best investments today is one that requires purchasing or growing one of the necessities of life.

Food.

From Stellar Solutions for Business, IT, Energy and Home January 8, 2015.

“What is your best investment in today’s scary financial markets and economic circumstances?

The answer may be food.”

“My food investment strategy is as follows:

1. I keep a many months supply of food.
2. I purchase as much “free” food as possible. I stock up with buy one get one free and especially buy 2 get 3 free. Hard to beat free food.”

Real employment news from US Labor Department January 9, 2015, Non Orwellian version, Truth from Citizen Wells and Zero Hedge, 456K more not in labor force, Labor force participation drop of .2 percent accounts for unemployment rate, Continuing unemployment claims surge

“Over the last six months, of the net job creation, 97 percent of that is part-time work,”…Keith Hall, former BLS chief

“The number of persons employed part time for economic reasons (sometimes referred to as involuntary part-time workers) was little changed in September at 7.1 million. These individuals, who would have preferred full-time employment, were working part time because their hours had been cut back or because they were unable to find a full-time job.”…US Labor Dept. September 2014

“Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.”…George Orwell, “1984″

You are being bombarded by the “good news” about employment from the Orwellian mainstream media, low information market news reports and I am certain the White House.

Now for the truth.

The real employment news.

The unemployment rate dropped to 5.6 percent and jobs are being added? Right?

From the US Labor Department data:

There were 456,000 more people not in the labor force in December!

There were supposedly 111,000 more people employed in December???

Hardly cause for celebration, if true, especially with the numbers of part time jobs.

The drop of .2 percent in the labor force participation rate accounts for the .2 percent drop in the unemployment rate.

The  labor force participation rate has plummeted 3 percent since Obama took office.

The number of people who could only find part time work is up 756,000 since Obama took office.

From Zero Hedge January 8, 2015.

“Continuing Claims Surge Most Since 2009 Over Last 6 Weeks, Initial Claims Miss”

“Initial claims dropped 4k on the week but missed expectations, printing 294k (vs 290k exp). This is a level first seen in July 2014 as the trend of improvement has ended for claims (the biggest 3 month rise in over a year). Layoffs were dominated by MI where manufacturing and waste management industries suffered (and Texas saw fewer layoffs but a shortened workweek). Perhaps more worrying, the continuing claims data surged by over 100k to 2.452 million (stunningly on a non-adjusted basis continuing claims surged 407k).”

The rate was as high as 69.2% in the fourth quarter of 2004. For those younger than 35, the rate has fallen noticeably faster. It slipped to 36.2% in the first quarter, from 36.8% in the fourth. Despite what you may have read from the low information mainstream media, baby boomers retiring are not the cause of the drop in the labor force in NC or US.

Do the math or read prior articles at Citizen Wells.

Lack of jobs is the problem.

From May of 2008 to November of 2014, the  labor force participation rate plummeted 5 percent in NC. The unemployment rate is the same.

From NC Spin December 20, 2014.

“North Carolina’s jobless rate fell to 5.8 percent in November, the lowest since May 2008, as the state’s economy gains force in the second half of the year.

The state’s jobless rate fell from 6.3 percent in October and has dropped from 7.4 percent one year ago, even though today’s wages have not caught up to pre-recession pay levels.

North Carolina’s unemployment rate, which has lagged the national average, matched the U.S. rate in November, but the nation as a whole dropped below 6 percent two months ahead of North Carolina.

The job market data was issued Friday by the Labor & Economic Analysis Division within the N.C. Department of Commerce.

North Carolina gained 16,400 jobs in November and 110,700 in the first 11 months of the year. The last time the state gained jobs at this rate was in 2006, when 129,500 jobs were added.”

“The state’s labor force shrunk 0.2 percent in November, losing 13,534 people. Over the past year, the labor force has shrunk 0.7 percent, for a reduction of 31,665 people.

A shrinking labor force will drive down the unemployment rate because fewer people are looking for work.

N.C. State University economist Michael Walden said the labor force shrinkage is a national issue caused by a trifecta of factors. Baby boomers are retiring. Students are staying in college longer before entering the workforce.”

“Additionally, private sector earnings and household income in the state, adjusted for inflation, are down since 2008.

“People are poorer today than they were on average before the recession,” Walden said.”

I hope that N.C. State University economist Michael Walden was misquoted about baby boomers.

The same dumbed down low information people who believe the lies about the Ferguson incident believe the lies being told about the economy and jobs situation.

Sadly, even so called more educated folks believe and regurgitate reports on the economy and jobs provided by the BLS and mainstream media.

Once again, thanks to Zero Hedge for this article.

“Should You Believe What They Tell You? Or What You See?”

“Sometimes I wish I could just passively accept what my government monarchs and their mainstream media mouthpieces feed me on a daily basis. Why do I have to question everything I’m told? Life would be much simpler and I could concentrate on more important things like the size of Kim Kardashian’s ass, why the Honey Boo Boo show was canceled, the Victoria Secret Fashion Show, whether I’ll get a better deal on Chinese slave labor produced crap on Black Thanksgiving, Black Friday, or Cyber Monday, fantasy football league standings, the latest NFL player to knockout their woman and get reinstated, Obama’s latest racial healing plan, which Clinton or Bush will be our next figurehead president, or the latest fake rape story from Rolling Stone. The willfully ignorant masses, dumbed down by government education, lured into obesity by corporate toxic packaged sludge disguised as food products, manipulated, controlled and molded by an unseen governing class of rich men, and kept docile through never ending corporate media propaganda, are nothing but pawns to the arrogant sociopathic pricks pulling the wires in this corporate fascist empire of debt.”

“The level of data massaging by the government and their co-conspirators on Wall Street and in the corporate media is a futile attempt at a happy ending that will never come to fruition. The intensity and relentlessness with which the state and its quasi-state minions attempt to paint a false picture of economic recovery is equal parts arrogance and desperation. The arrogance is a function of successfully pulling off the greatest heist in world history from 2003 through 2008 with no adverse consequences, no criminal charges, no penalties for their crimes, and more power and wealth than they had prior to 2003. The only way to stop sociopaths is to throw them in jail or kill them. In our dystopian paradise of greed, they were rewarded with trillions in rescue packages by their cohorts in crime at the Federal Reserve and in Congress. They’ve paid themselves billions in bonuses for gorging at the Federal Reserve trough of QE and ZIRP. The desperation is borne from the fact that after $7.5 trillion of debt added by the Federal government and $3.5 trillion of debt created by the Federal Reserve since 2009, the Greater Depression for average Americans deepens by the day.

The men pulling the strings behind the scenes are drunk with power and their hubris allows them to believe their own infallibility and blinds them to the dire consequences for our country when their debt Ponzi scheme fails. But, as we grow ever closer to the day of reckoning, they will use every means at their disposal to paint a positive picture, regardless of the facts and reality for the average person. The examples of twisting, distorting and outright lying about the economic reality of our times are endless. These are some of the major false storylines peddled by our benevolent corporate fascist leaders:

The BLS reported 321,000 jobs added in November and the unemployment rate at 5.8%. Jobs are plentiful, based upon these statistics.

A skeptical critical thinking individual might ask a few questions or point out a few inconvenient facts the government purveyors of propaganda might not want us to ponder:

  • The non-manipulated, non-seasonally adjusted number of jobs in November FELL by 270,000. The BLS added 600,000 jobs as an adjustment to achieve the headline grabbing result.
  • If the jobs market is so good, why is the labor participation rate at a 30 year low of 62.8%?
  • Since 2007 the number of working age Americans has risen by 17 million, while the number of employed has risen by less than 1 million, but the unemployment rate is about the same.
  • Why would almost 14 million working age Americans leave the labor force since 2007 if the economy is booming and jobs plentiful, with 1.2 million leaving in the last 12 months?
  • Why would payroll tax receipts be flat with last year if millions of new jobs have been created?
  • If the country has really added 8 million jobs since 2010, how could real median household income FALL by 2.3%?”

“According to the government reported figures, the economy hasn’t been this strong since 2007. GDP has supposedly grown at greater than 4% over the last two quarters.

Anyone who is sentient knows consumer spending accounts for 68% of GDP. Capital investments that lead to long term prosperity continue to decline as a percentage of GDP from 20% in 2000 to 16% today. We’ve chosen consumption and financialization over savings and investment. This fact leads to some observations:

  • If GDP has actually grown by 20% since 2008 how does this correlate with a 6.9% decline in real median household income?
  • GDP has been goosed by a $69 billion increase in government spending, with the majority going to the military industrial complex. ISIS has been a godsend for our GDP and arms dealer profits.
  • GDP was increased retroactively by $500 billion last year based on a new way the government accounts for intangibles.
  • The surge in consumer expenditures over the last two quarters has been in the purchase of services. The higher costs for Obamacare are a boon for GDP. Are they a boon for your bank account?
  • The trade deficit has fallen as exports of petroleum products have temporarily provided a boost to GDP. The collapse in oil prices will reverse that trend rapidly.”

Rhino Times John Hammer rips liberal Greensboro News Record, NC a red state not purple, North Carolina rejected Obama in 2012 and went Republican again in 2014, News Record rubber stamped Obama and Hagan

“On October 1, 2014 the Greensboro News Record presented one of the most irresponsible and apparently party line editorials that I have read recently. They rubber stamped Obama’s policy of accepting illegal alien children from Central America without proper medical screening and dispersing them throughout the US.”…Citizen Wells

Catching up on my reading this morning.

The Greensboro News Record, part of the liberal mainstream media, has rubber stamped the policies of and endorsed Obama and Kay Hagan.

From John Hammer of the Rhino Times November 13, 2014.

“I love that the liberal mainstream media in Greensboro, i.e., the News & Record, has declared North Carolina a purple state.

Let’s count the reasons why North Carolina is not considered a red state.

One, it is because North Carolina just elected a Democratic senator to go along with Republican Sen. Richard Burr. Oh no, that can’t be right, because beginning in January, North Carolina will have two Republican senators. Republican Speaker of the state House Thom Tillis defeated Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan. But perhaps the N&R hasn’t heard about the results of the election yet.

Maybe it’s a purple state because the Democrats picked up enough seats that the congressional delegation is evenly split. No, that can’t be it because the Democrats lost a seat in the North Carolina congressional delegation and it now stands at 10 Republicans and three Democrats. So that’s an increase from nine Republicans and four Democrats, which would seem to make the state more red.

I know, it’s because in this election the Democrats took over the state Senate and state House so that, even though there is a Republican governor, the state government will be split. That isn’t it either, because the Republicans picked up one seat in the Senate, so it is now 34 Republicans to 16 Democrats.

For those in the mainstream media, that means there are more than twice as many Republicans in the state Senate as there are Democrats. More than two to one. More than double. In other words for those bad with numbers, a lot more.

Then there is the state House. Maybe the Democrats sneaked up and took over the state House while everybody was watching the Senate race. No, that’s not the case either. But maybe this is what everyone is talking about because the Democrats did pick up three seats in the state House, and instead of Republicans having a 77-to-43 majority, the Republicans now have a 74-to-46 majority.

It’s the only place where the Democrats made any gains in state government. The North Carolina governor is a Republican, the North Carolina state House has a comfortable majority of Republicans, the state Senate has a huge majority of Republicans, the state Supreme Court has a majority of Republicans, the state now has two Republican US senators, and 10 Republicans out of 13 US congressmen.

In 2012, North Carolina voted for the Republican candidate for president and elected a Republican governor, majorities in both houses of the state legislature and a Republican majority on the state Supreme Court. So all of this is not brand new.

It would seem that as long as there is a Democratic elected official in North Carolina it will be listed as a purple state because it is hard to imagine how much more Republican North Carolina could get.

It’s funny what the mainstream media do instead of reporting the news. They just makes stuff up. There is a good reason to consider North Carolina purple if you happen to be far left-wing liberals like most of the folks at the N&R, and that is because if Democrats think that North Carolina is a red state, meaning that Republicans are going to win, then fewer Democrats will vote. It is a self-fulfilling prophecy. But what is really unfortunate for the liberals, like those at the N&R, is that North Carolina is a red state and it is really hard for them to accept.

In 2008, Barack Hussein Obama won North Carolina by 14,000 votes, which is nearly nothing. If there had been a recount Obama might easily have lost the state. But there was no need for a recount because it didn’t make any difference – Obama was elected president by a wide enough margin that North Carolina wasn’t an issue. But he won by slimmest of margins and Obama had coattails. It’s not unusual, but it was a one-time event. The country will never elect its first black president again. That has been done. But because six years ago some Democrats won doesn’t make North Carolina in 2014 a purple state.”
