I received an email today about Media Fail, a website that is devoted to “Expose the worst of American media.
Find it. Post it. Fail it. ”
I signed up at MediaFail.com and then posted two commemts about failings of the mainstream media.

ANYONE ON THIS BLOG WHO HAS SERVED IN THE US MARINE CORPS DURING THE VIET NAM WAR I am trying to locate a combat veteran who knows the military identity of ALL the Marine Divisions that were deployed to Nam. I am looking for what Regiment,and what Division. My objective is to either prove or disprove the words of Dick Blumenthal..(D) CT. He was a membr of a USMarine Corp,RESERVE UNIT for 6 years. Now keep the word Reserve in your mind while I add this He recently stated in PUBLIC FORUM that he was in Viet nam as a COMBAT MARINE. The New York Times has stated that he NEVER set foot in Viet Nam. Further he was given a 2H draft classification.This sort of thing if true angers me and dirties the memory of our fallen heros. To me for someone to lie about his Marine Corp duty assignment is tatamount to sombody wearing collar devices of rank identity,who have no right to wesr them. While I admire his RESERVE service, I strongly question his alleged Viet Nam combat duty. If he has LIED then he deserves to LOSE the election,in Connecticut. Better still ,be thrown out of politics. Liars have no place in the representation of WE THE PEOPLE. I am hoping that there IS a marine vet out there who will get back to me on this. It is important!

You have a very narrow view of the law and of proper human/official behavior. Just because it is not required does not mean it is unlawful.
I understand that mandamus lawsuits may fail against SOS’s unless their own state law dictates that they police eligibility – “Hey, you can’t sue me unless the law says I have to do it”.
However, there is the other issue that all SOS’s swear to uphold the constitution. This would seem, at a minimum, to give them a lawful reason to at least gather information and inform the public.
Further, one of the things that concerns many of us is the failure of the legal system to protect the constitution by not entertaining “dereliction of duty” lawsuits against officials who swear the oath and let obvious opportunities slide by.
Without a STRONG and PROACTIVE defense of the sacred constitution, a constitutional republic is pretty much a wet noodle.

Yes, at his news conference, he said that he meant to say that “he served during” the Vietnam war.
For myself, I would NEVER claim to have served “in” Viet Nam. I only served “during” Viet Nam. I was blessed by God and never had to go to Viet Nam.

It is an honorable thing to serve in the Marine Corps Reserves whether during the Viet Nam war or at any other time, but when you publically state that you are a COMBAT VETERAN,when in reality you were only a REESERVIST I would sure as hell expect the person making the statement to be exactly that. In addition how the hell can you THINK you MIGHT have been there,or maybe was not there. Was he so damned stoned that he can’t even remember anything about it.? If this is the case and he was there(which I doubt) it does seem to suggest at least part of the reason why everybody got their rear ends kicked by the North. They were stoned on drugs and couldn’t tell up from down. Not a good thing for an infantryman. When stoned you take too long to re act, and usually react incorrectly to a specific enemy action. Further most training is either forgotten,or completely inaccessible in drug fogged minds. Herein lies almost certain defeat,by a determined,and/or resourceful enemy. In combat action your mind must ALWAYS be focused on what is going on in front of you. You need to have PRESENCE of mind. In combat you make only ONE mistake. The enemy will see it and, it is probable that your mistake will cost you your life. None of our guys are HOUDINIs, and a resourceful,determined,and well trained enemy is what they faced in Viet Nam. The enemy knew about the terrain,and how best to use it. They were BORN there. Even with weapons that really were little more than JUNK, they did raise holy hell against our guys. I personally believe that those who were REALLY there will tell the same story. The enemy lost thousands of their soldiers,and SO did we, and to what end? When wars are micro managed by WH nitwits we usually LOSE.

Blumenthal isn’t the first one to falsely claim service in Vietnam. It used to infuriate me too. (I lost a cousin in Vietnam. Helicopter pilot). It seemed such an insult to his service and sacrifice. Especially for my aunt and uncle who lost their only child. But then I realized that these unsung heroes are finally getting some respect in a left-handed compliment sort of way; why else would someone pretend to be what these guys really are unless they actually respect and admire their service? Just like imitation is the greatest flattery… Of course they’re still snakes and vipers to do something so pathetic, but we already knew that!

I disagree with your interpretation of both the Constitution and the laws (generally) governing the role of the SoS. So, whose interpretation should prevail? Well, the Constitution set up 3 (three) branches of government (so as to check each other’s power), assigning the interpretation of laws to the judicial branch. So, consistent with the fundamental principle of governmental separation of powers that underlies the document, people who eschew the decisions of the judicial branch, insisting their own interpretations should prevail, have these fixed options. 1) They can join the judicial branch of government and issue their own decisions; 2) they can write new laws that will be interpreted more to their liking; or 3) they can stop representing themselves as ardent supporters of the Constitution.

Several posts in this blog have directly mentioned the effects of his substance abuse on his (erratic) behavior. They claimed to have “inside knowledge.”
Since I have no first hand knowledge, myself, I’m going by educated guess. A discussion on this blog supported the conclusion that one doesn’t just get over a drug addiction. That o. is an addict seems a reasonable conclusion to me.
I don’t know how common the knowledge is. Probably the whole Chicago crowd knows because probably they all partied together.

I didn’t hear so don’t know what they discussed. But there is a big ‘problem’ with Citizen Grand Juries. Whether they are the kind Leo promotes, RAP, or AGJ.
They are indeed called out in the constitution and are therefore allowed – as long as you do it correctly – which I think is Leo’s main point.
But the problem is they are not a part of our cultural fabric and not part of the current legal proceedings. Officialdom does not know what to do with them. You can provide all the presentments and indictments you want – you can hand deliver them with bells on them – there is just no common precedent for them. The officials will shrug their shoulders and set them aside. There seems to be no mechanism to force them to process them other than public outcry.
Given the current status of the MSM, it is hard to see how a loud enough outcry can happen. Heck, even the Tea Parties will not touch the subject matter with a ten foot pole – they are certainly not going to be part of the outcry.
I’m sure Leo will correct me if I;m wrong – but constitutionality be damned, I don’t know of a single successful Citizens Grand Jury ever being accomplished in my lifetime.

You are right in looking at the long-range picture! Everyone is happy to see Specter get his just dues, but his defeat now could well make it harder for the Repub. in general election. I am not overly party-minded, but after what we’ve seen over the last year I don’t trust any Dems – blue dogs or yellow dogs. They nearly all seem to follow the party line regardless. And the same can be said of too many Repubs nowadays also.
The problem is the Democratic Party has been hijacked by the radical left, so anyone still in the party that truly believes in the Constitution should not be affiliated imho.

Personally I feel the same way. Those CGJ that Leo is so confident in may well be constitutional,
that’s for sure, BUT the only real teeth they would have in this present judicial climate would be in the court of public opinion. That is not to be minimized, of course, but as far as seeing a direct indictment or arrest as some are talking about, it just isn’t going to happen UNLESS a present sitting judge decides to take a case, or, perhaps SCOTUS might be asked to intervene? Wouldn’t the thinking of the present Congress and SCOTUS be to just let this thing ride out, since we are already into BHO’s term? I DON’T
