From Fox news, December 19, 2009.
“Reid Unveils Health Compromise, Wins Nelson’s Support”
“With a self-imposed Christmas deadline at stake, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid engineered a last-minute compromise that has won the support of the lone Democratic holdout and clinched the required 60 votes to pass a sweeping overhaul of the U.S. health care system.
Democratic leaders offered Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska a deal similar to the $300 million in Medicaid aid Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana got for her support, numerous sources told Fox News.
When asked about this, Sen. Kent Conrad, a key Democratic leader involved in the negotiations with Nelson, said, “Oh, it’ll be much more.”
The conservative Nebraska Democrat announced his support in a news conference Saturday, adding that he reserves the right to vote against the final bill if substantial changes are made by House and Senate negotiators.
Marathon negotiations with the White House and Senate Democratic leaders produced fresh concessions that will mean additional abortion restrictions in the legislation.
The compromise package Reid released Saturday also puts new limits on insurance company profits.The measure would require insurers in the individual market to spend 80 percent of premiums on medical care. The requirement for group policies would be 85 percent.
That would limit overhead and profits. Children could not be denied coverage for health problems.
On abortion, the measure would let states disallow coverage in new insurance exchanges.”
“With Nelson’s vote, Obama’s Senate allies would have the 60 needed to overcome a filibuster by Republicans.
That gave Nelson enormous leverage as he pressed for concessions that included stronger restrictions on abortions to be covered by insurance policies offered in a newly overhauled health care system. Officials said he was also seeking to ease the impact of a proposed insurance industry tax on nonprofit companies, as well as win more federal funds to cover Nebraska’s cost of treating patients in Medicaid, the state-federal health care program for the poor. These officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the talks, said the administration and Democratic leaders had offered concessions on those points.
The Nebraska Democrat has already rejected one proposed offer on abortions as insufficient, and the presence in the talks of Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., indicated additional changes were on the table.”
“Gone is a government insurance plan modeled on Medicare. So is the fallback, the option of allowing aging baby boomers to buy into Medicare. The major benefits of the bill won’t start for three or four years, and then they’ll be delivered through private insurance companies.”

America has been sold out by a bribe. SHAME on you Ben Nelson!!!
This email about Mary Landrieu was forwarded to me. I wonder how many pieces of Silver Ben Nelson got? Well at least we got to keep the military base.
Patriots:
At our Town Hall Event – the “Voice of the Citizens” – we promised Mary Landrieu’s District Coordinator that we were going to run a commercial comparing her to Judas for accepting Harry Reid’s 300 million dollar bribe.
We asked for donations that night and you guys chipped in $1025.00!!!!
Here is the commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2vwqymXEcU
It is also now on the Homepage of our website. http://teapartyoflouisiana.net/Home/tabid/38/Default.aspx
PLEASE, send it to EVERYONE you know and encourage them to donate. We want this commercial to be HUGE.

Well, CWers, it’s becoming abundantly clear that incumbent politicians are more interested in taking bribes than keeping their jobs.
They think we’re bluffing. They’ll see we’re not come next November.
Time to take the trash out…
SueK
Amen.
Well, I totally agree with my colleague bloggers
above. Nelson sold out like the rest. How utterly disappointing—I thought he wouldn’t.
As SueK above says and I will follow suit–
it is time to TAKE the TRASH OUT!!!!!!!!
And, no, we ARE NOT bluffing, as SueK also says here!!!!
KICK THEIR BUTTS OUT!!!!!!!
I believe that the Democratic Party has cut their own throats with this one. They have gone too far and mistaken the American people’s tolerance for corruption and bribery. The majority of us don’t want to live in a country where votes for important issues are bought. This has shown us clearly that the system is broken. The idea that someone in California should be paying for a bridge in Illinois is ridiculous and unconstitutional. The whole earmark system must be stopped.
As for this healthcare debacle, it is so clearly unconstitutional that either it will be thrown out by the courts, or inspire a revolution.
My Question?….
Could there be something hidden in this bill where they can’t be voted out of congress?
I just don’t trust any of them… !!!!!!!!!
There has to be something hidden that is protecting them. Otherwise why would they be willing to ignore the majority of the American People. Something doesn’t smell right!!!!!!
Maybe I am just being overly picky….. BUT, I think I AM RIGHT. THEY HAVE THEIR PROTECTION IN PLACE.
~~~I DO HOPE I AM WRONG, thou!~~~
“I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse!”
He knew what he could get if he held out. Was there any question he would fold?
And…if there was a threat, he would deny it so we cannot go to court.
It there a new game in town…Play and We’ll Pay?
Have they gone from Chicago Thuggery to Washington Thuggery? Might be…since they do everything backwards in DC.
Oh well…we’re making a list and checking it twice. We already know who has been naughty and the nice list is not very long, either.
Happy Day…Linda
Another Day, Another Disappointment!
joyceaz:
Wouldn’t put it past them…it is a concern, and you are right to be concerned.
They do act like they have nothing about which to worry, though.
I hope you are wrong, too, but I do not trust them either.
Happy Day…Linda
Well they finally did it!! They have enslaved America. There is only one honest action left for American citizens–revolt. Revolt from this tyrannical government that picks and chooses what laws to obey and which not obey as if they are choosing from a Chinese menu. We have all been thoroughly betrayed by a cowardly, deceitful, self serving Congress & Senate who all should be arrested and tried for their endless crimes against America beginning with the usurper and his wife Evita.
And all the king’s horses and all the king’s men will never put America back together again. Revolution, chaos, and loss of good American lives are in store. This is what the usurper wants because there will never agains be another presidential election again. From health care control to dictatorship. May God–not allah–have mercy upon us all.
Kidmon:
Maybe so…we have lost a battle, but we will WIN the WAR…I am sure of that!
Don’t worry; Be Happy!
Peace…Linda
Look around you, it’s still happening. Congress is out of control! We must throw out all those A@#Hs who are voting for this piece of crap.
To quote Howard Beale (Howard Beale Memorial Society).
I’m going to my window, open it, and yell ” Im mad as HELL and I’m not going to take it anymore…. and I’ll keep yelling til they arrest me!”
The tax revolt is on…..come April no one should pay…..let them fund their own corrupt government….this is no longer our government….of the people, by the people and for the people!!!
Take a few minutes and read the article concerning the investigations of the Clintons. Looks like criminals in the White House is nothing new.
US government isn’t about “We the People” anymore. Every persons pet project has become an excuse to expand government and and remove individual freedom. Ben Nelson is just next in a long line of payoff’s and personal interest over the well being of the country.
The 2010 elections are an opportunity for “We the people” to control our government. Denial of that event will end in violence, so be prepared.
Jacqlyn:
I believe there is a Tax Day Protest in progress already…so it looks like people could refuse to pay.
Sure hope so…
Happy Day…Linda
Linda from NY -“but we will WIN the WAR…I am sure of that!”
As I was reading re: all the dissension about Copenhagen, I came to realize the reason they are having such problems is that no country, no individual trusts anyone else. Could the reason be that they are untrustworthy along with their bogus science? Now there is more time to reveal more of the bogus science. I will bet you same problems exist in Congress-they cannot trust one another-WE THE PEOPLE know what to do. I think the 2010 elections are going to be very interesting to say the least. It is as if the folks in Congress are saying Please vote me out. OK-we got it. We will. We will also remember those who fought valiantly against an out of control government and tried their level best to stop the insanity. The Dems don’t know how to read polls?
Climate ‘deal’ confusion
By Fiona Harvey, Ed Crooks and Andrew Ward in Copenhagen
Published: December 19 2009 02:00 | Last updated: December 19 2009 02:00
The United Nations climate change summit in Copenhagen ended in apparent disarray last night with some world leaders hailing a “meaningful agreement”, while others said no deal had been struck.
The US, China, Brazil, India and South Africa claimed, after a four-hour meeting, to have secured a partial pact. But their optimism was quickly undermined by a string of more pessimistic assessments.
Barack Obama, US president, acknowledged that the deal was “not sufficient to combat the threat of climate change but [was] an important first step” on cutting greenhouse gases
Michelle:
You are right on…the bickering is beginning; children always fight for the biggest piece of pie.
Unlike them, however, we are fighting for our country…they are not [obviously].
When push comes to shove, the American people will revolt. They will not accept what is being shoved down their throats; everyone will suffer so everyone will have a say [except, of course, those who are happy to live on handouts].
Besides, as Jacqlyn points out, what will they do if we refuse to pay for their ambitious programs?
Put us all in jail…oh…that’ll work; you cannot get money from a person in jail or their family if they are all in jail with them.
If they think the Town Halls were bad, they haven’t seen nothin’ yet!
Where there is a WILL, there is a WAY, and we will find the way!
Happy Day…Linda
http://biggovernment.com/2009/12/18/climate-deal-reached-sort-of/
President Barack Obama declared Friday a “meaningful and unprecedented breakthrough” had been reached among the U.S., China and three other countries on a global effort to curb climate change but said much work was still be needed to reach a legally binding treaty.
“It is going to be very hard, and it’s going to take some time,” he said near the conclusion of a 193-nation global warming summit. “We have come a long way, but we have much further to go.”
The president said there was a “fundamental deadlock in perspectives” between big, industrially developed countries like the United States and poorer, though sometimes large, developing nations. Still he said this week’s efforts “will help us begin to meet our responsibilities to leave our children and grandchildren a cleaner planet.”
The deal as described by Obama reflects some progress helping poor nations cope with climate change and getting China to disclose its actions to address the warming problem.
But it falls far short of committing any nation to pollution reductions beyond a general acknowledgment that the effort should contain global temperatures along the lines agreed to at a conference of the leading economic nations last July.
Read the whole article here.
No doubt the media will spin this as some important development and chalk up a point in Obama’s column. Make no mistake, however, this is a disaster for Big Green, Inc. Copenhagen had been planned to usher in legally-binding emission caps. An epic fail. A very Merry Christmas to all
Linda from NY -As you know from Chicago, this is basically an unenforceable law somewhat like Prohibition. I drink but not very much, due to Booze hates me. I’m allergic to sulfites (wine) and can barely even take the smell of hard liquor, so I’m limited-love Margarita’s but three of those and your stomach starts burning, but I digress. What did Prohibition accomplish? Al Capone, bath tub gin? I know many people think Obama is socialist, communist, nut, but I still think he is a common ordinary Mob boy from Chicago. What did the Mob do doing WW2, I’m sure it was business as usual. They used to say in Chicago, the Mob has tentacles everywhere, the gov’t put away Gotti, and many others. Maybe their new hiding place is DC. Hiding in plain sight.
On Healthcare
This act on their part will permanently split many from the Democrat party; these are the people who haven’t left already, the people who will become Palin Democrats in 2012. It’s clear to us Mitch McConnel is allowing Utopiacare to pass because he knows what a party-destroying disaster it’s going to be for Democrats in 2010 and 2012. We hope that means Republicans have a plan for eliminating this madness once they take Congress back next year. This will now be a solid part of the Republican 2012 presidential platform, so we will look with great anticipation for what Governor Palin has to say about the way forward.
There are a lot of Democrat Senators we like very much, on personal levels. Some of these people we got to know fairly well in the 2008 campaign. We don’t think, after this vote, that we’ll ever be able to help these people in any way going forward. We certainly won’t be able to stop the public backlash against them.
It’s going to take a revolution.
Victory is inevitable!! Things look bad, but the way it went in Copenhagen is very encouraging..I am thinking of the trip Mary and Joseph had to make to Bethlehem going to pay taxes, with a baby due any minute, I am certain they could have used that money. Things looked bad with nowhere to stay and give birth. The government was beyond corrupt. Things looked so bad, but things are not always the way they appear. Our awesome Heavenly Father intervened and used wise men to turn things around, they brought gold (gift for a king) frankensinse (gift for a priest) murrh (gift for a prophet)……..I don’t know how long it will take to undo the things O has done, but I do believe Victory for our country is inevitable and soon…God bless you all!!
This article put a smile on my face. I hope it does for you as well.
DeMint promises to delay health bill, force Christmas Eve vote
By Alexander Bolton – 12/17/09 03:15 PM ET
Sen. Jim DeMint said Thursday he is prepared to use every procedural tool to delay a vote on the Democratic healthcare legislation.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is planning to schedule votes around the clock over the next week to meet a deadline of passing the bill by Christmas. Without the cooperation of Republicans, the marathon schedule would end with a vote on Christmas Eve.
Reid hopes that Republicans will waive some of the procedural formalities so senators are not forced to spend the evening before Christmas milling about the Senate floor.
But DeMint (R-S.C.), chairman of the Senate Republican Steering Committee and a leader of the conservative opposition, told The Hill he will not yield back any time.
DeMint also said he would force the Senate to return to Washington after Christmas to vote on a $290 billion increase to the federal debt limit. Treasury officials told lawmakers that they need an increase of borrowing authority to keep the government solvent beyond Dec. 31.
Wondering? Is the SCOTUS sitting there will
all of Obama’s documents, records, and info. that we don’t have, just waiting for the “right time” to make a move (or is this just wishful thinking)?
God Bless You Carmen!
Your joyfulness is an inspiration.
Told you Nelson, like Lieberman, was grandstanding…..just those games they all play…….
God, please show us our Moses, please!!!
This will go-down in history as but a Pyhrric victory where political costs outweigh the benefits to the Democrats… if people weren’t pissed at the power-drunk Dems before, they likely are now…
These tools like Nelson will soon regret the day they did this for Obama, he’ll pull all these fools right-over the abyss with him… and the coming GOP majority will rescind it anyway
