Thank you for your recent letter regarding President-elect Barack Obama. I appreciate your comments and welcome the opportunity to respond.
The Constitution of the United States requires that all candidates for the office of President must be at least 35 years of age, natural born citizens, and residents in the United States for the previous 14 years. As you know, stories have circulated that call into question President-elect Obama’s citizenship. To this end, lawsuits have been filed allegging that Obama is not a natural born citizen of the United States, and therefore is constitutionally ineligible for the office of President.
One of the most highly publicized suits was filed by Philip Berg on August 21, 2008, in the U. S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. This suit was dismissed on October 24, 2008, and Berg subsequently filed an appeal. The decision to hear the case is still pending before the United States Supreme Court. A related suit, filed by Leo Donofrio, was recently submitted to the Supreme Court. On December 8, 2008, the court declined to hear Donofrio’s suit.
Senate ethics rules preclude me from becoming personally involved in pending litigation. I sincerely hope this matter can be fully and promptly resolved by the courts. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me in the future should you have a question regarding an issue over which I have jurisdiction.

Thank you for your response to my questions. I would appreciate it if you could clarify one more thing for me. Since you are the Senator and are more familiar with our Constitution, could you please explain why in your letter you said “every child born in the United States is a natural-born United States citizen” and relating that to the fact that Obama is eligible to be President.
I was under the assumption that just being born on U.S. soil made the person a US citizen or a native born citizen (dependent on parents’ status) but not a natural born citizen (unless both parents were citizens) Since his father was not a US citizen does the article below not mean anything?

On Obama’s own campaign website, it states and affirms that Barack Obama at birth was born with dual nationalities, because his father Barack Obama Sr. was a Kenyan native whose citizenship status was governed by The British Nationality Act of 1948. That same act governed the status of Obama.

I think a broad impeachment will be necessary to any and all Senators and Representatives who were willing to undermine the country by knowingly allowing a usurper to gain control of the highest position in our government.
The question is, how can this be done by Patriots legally, without force, and without having to rely on the Judicial System to do so? Is it in our Consitutional right to demand forfeiture of seats through public trial or some other means?
I think the threat based on the Hall of Shame is the resounding answer that We the People appear to have absolutely no say in this matter. Congress completely understands the issue, and past attempts to redefine “Natural Born Citizen” through recent legislature clearly shows this. We already know this and so do they.

A one page note from a doctor stating he is okay is not sufficient. My daughter needs more than that to be admitted back into school after a 3 day absence!!!
It is a requirement per our Constitution that anyone wishing to be POTUS must be a “natural born citizen”. To date no one has seen Mr. Obama’s birth certificate except for two people in Hawaii who say it exists. Now Obama has ordered this information to be sealed. As an American citizen and registered voter I have a vested interest in learning the truth here and we need you to act and act NOW!!!!!!!!!

Dear Senator Reid,
Though the question of the authenticity of Senator Obama’s birth certificate is still in question – Sen. Obama has ties to the “non-partisan” factcheck.org” cited in your correspondence – even had he been born in Hawai’i, the federal law at the time would have caused him to have assumed the citizenship of his father. His father was born in Nigeria, a British colony at the time; therefore, Barry was born a British citizen as the USA did not allow dual citizenship in 1961.
One would think that you, with all of your resources and experience, would be aware of this. Perhaps if you were a bit more enlightened and more desirous of the truth rather than political gain, you might try and represent your constituents and put this issue to rest before a grave injustice is done and Barry is sworn in as POTUS.
Once again, I am disappointed in the “Democratic” process that you and your ilk feign to carry out.
