Citizen Wells has been informing and warning you for months about the decimation of jobs for White Americans and millennials and the fact that 75 percent of jobs under Obama went to Hispanics and Latinos.

From Citizen Wells May 12, 2015.

“I have been warning you about the decimation of white American jobs under Obama.

Reported here recently:

There were 167,000 fewer white Americans employed in April.

There were 316,000 fewer white Americans employed since January.

There were 875,000 more white Americans not in the labor force since January.

The labor force participation rate for white Americans dropped .4 percent since January.

It has dropped 3.3 percent under Obama.

There are over  2.3 million fewer white Americans in the labor force than when Obama took office in January 2009.

I have also reported about what Jim Clifton of Gallup accurately called a Big Lie, the stated unemployment rate.

The real unemployment rate, that is, real humans not employed, could well be 23 percent.

From Shadow Government Statistics.

“The seasonally-adjusted SGS Alternate Unemployment Rate reflects current unemployment reporting methodology adjusted for SGS-estimated long-term discouraged workers, who were defined out of official existence in 1994. That estimate is added to the BLS estimate of U-6 unemployment, which includes short-term discouraged workers.”

“The ShadowStats Alternate Unemployment Rate for Aprile 2015 is 23.0%.””

Real unemployment rate 23 percent, 2.3 million fewer white Americans in labor force under Obama, 316k fewer white Americans employed since January 2015, 44 percent of Americans work 30 hours per week, Average age of minimum wage worker is 36, More than 100 million not working

Zero Hedge does a great job of reporting the real economy and jobs situation.

I was pleased to find the following.

“The “Illegal Immigrant” Recovery? The Real Stunner In The Jobs Report”

“Traditionally, when it comes to job numbers reported by the BLS’s Establishment (the source of the monthly nonfarm payrolls change) and Household (the source of the monthly unemployment rate data) surveys, there is a substantial discrepancy. However, in May’s far stronger than expected report, the two for the first time were almost identical: the Establishment Survey reported an increase of 280K jobs, while according to the Household survey 272K jobs were added.

Impressive numbers in a month in which only 215K jobs were expected to be added.

There were the usual kinks, of course. Two thirds of all jobs, according to the Establishment survey, were low-paying, low-quality jobs, primarily teachers, retail, temp help and waiters (something even CNBC has been forced to acknowledge):”

May2015Jobs

“There were other curiosities: the vast majority of jobs added in May, over 200K, were in the 20-24 age group, and the number of self-employed workers mysteriously soared by 350K to 10 million.

But the biggest surprise came from Table 7, where the BLS reveals the number of “foreign born workers” used in the Household survey. In May, this number increased to 25.098 million, the second highest in history, a monthly jump of 279K.”

May2015foreign born workers

“Assuming, the Household and Establishment surveys were congruent, this would mean that there was just 1K native-born workers added in May of the total 280K jobs added.

Alternatively, assuming the series, which is not seasonally adjusted, was indicative of seasonally adjusted data, then the 272K increase in total Household Survey civilian employment in May would imply a decline of 7K native-born workers offset by the increase of 279K “foreign borns.”

But while all of these comparisons are apples to oranges, using the BLS’ own Native-Born series, also presented on an unadjusted basis, we find the following stunner: since the start of the Second Great Depression, the US has added 2.3 million “foreign-born” workers, offset by just 727K “native-born”.”

“Note: this article is not meant to side on either side of the illegal immigration debate: the upcoming presidential elections will do enough of that. It merely seeks to fill a gaping hole in economist models which are unable to explain or rationalize why America’s seemingly “booming” jobs recovery, which is “firing on all fours” according to the BLS, is not manifesting itself in either inflationary pressures, or broad economic productivity.”

Did you know that as of the April jobs report there were over 2.3 million fewer white Americans in labor force since Obama took office?

That there were 316,000 fewer white Americans employed since January?

Only if you have been reading Citizen Wells.

The White House and media have been lying to you.

Still not alarmed?

From Zero Hedge May 11, 2015.

“Did you know that 89 percent of all minimum wage workers in the United States are not teens?  At this point, the average age of a minimum wage worker in this country is 36, and 56 percent of them are women.  Millions upon millions of Americans are working as hard as they can (often that means two or three jobs), and yet despite all of their hard work they still find themselves mired in poverty.  One of the big reasons for this is that we have created two classes of workers in the United States.

“Full-time workers” are entitled to an array of benefits and protections by law that “part-time workers” do not get.  And thanks to perverse incentives contained in Obamacare and other ridiculous laws, we have motivated employers to move as many workers from the “full-time” category to the “part-time” category as possible.  It may be hard to believe, but right now only 44 percent of all U.S. adults are employed for 30 or more hours each week.  But to get any kind of a job at all is a real challenge in many parts of the country today.  As you read this article, there aremore than 100 million working age Americans that are not employed in any capacity.  And according to John Williams of shadowstats.com, if the federal government was actually using honest numbers the unemployment rate would be sitting at 23 percent.  That is not an “employment recovery” – that is a national crisis.””

Once again the media and the White House will prop up Obama and lie to the American people.

They have not been reporting the real jobs and economy situation in this country.

They especially are not reporting that White Americans have been decimated in the job market under Obama.

Don’t take my word for it. Go to the US Labor Dept. site and look for yourself.

From Market Watch June 3, 2015.

“Wall Street was poised for a positive session on Wednesday, with futures inching higher ahead of private-sector jobs data that could hint at the strength of the closely watched nonfarm-payrolls report.”

“Wednesday’s data: Investors will get a first sense of how the labor market performed in May with the ADP employment report, due at 8:15 a.m. Eastern Time. Economists polled by FactSet expect that 200,000 private-sector jobs were added in the month, up from a disappointing 169,000 in April.

The ADP figure is seen as a bellwether for the top-tier nonfarm-payrolls report due on Friday, although the private-sector data can at times veer substantially from the U.S. government’s report.”

Even if 200k jobs are added, it does not begin to make up for the massive losses of full time jobs under Obama, especially for White Americans and millenials.

Do not be fooled by the stated unemployment rate.

Jim Clifton, CEO of Gallup accurately called it a big lie.

Most of you reading this know that the economy, i.e., main street is not doing well.

That over 30 percent of millenials live with family members.

From Citizen Wells May 28, 2015.

“At least 9 million native born Americans being added to the labor force and immigrants taking native born American jobs.

There was an increase of over 12 million not in the labor force since Obama took office.

The youngest members of the workforce, 16 and above will be hit the hardest by immigrant workers.

And all of those jobs that Obama bragged about and Janet Yellen and others referred to….

Of the approx. 6 million new employments since Obama took office in January 2009, 4,511,000 were Hispanic/Latino!

We have barely, if at all,  recovered all of the jobs lost during the recession and 75% of the job growth went to Hispanic/Latinos!!””

“Millennials are a bit of a mystery to Janet Yellen.

The head of the U.S. Federal Reserve said Tuesday that the behavior of millennials — which typically refers to a generation of people born in the 80s and 90s — has top economists scratching their heads.

“I think we’re just beginning to understand how the millennials are behaving,” Yellen said before the Senate Banking Committee. “They’re certainly waiting longer to buy houses; to get married. They have a lot of student debt. They seem quite worried about housing as an investment. They’ve had a tough time in the job market.”

  • The large increases since 2007 in the unemployment and underemployment rates of young college graduates, and in the share of employed young college graduates working in jobs that do not require a college degree, underscore that the current unemployment crisis among young workers did not arise because today’s young adults lack the right education or skills. Rather, it stems from weak demand for goods and services, which makes it unnecessary for employers to significantly ramp up hiring.
  • The long-run wage trends for young graduates are bleak, with wages substantially lower today than in 2000. Since 2000, the real (inflation-adjusted) wages of young high school graduates have dropped 10.8 percent, and those of young college graduates have dropped 7.7 percent.
  • The erosion of job quality for young graduates is also evident in their declining likelihood of receiving employer-provided health insurance or pensions.
  • Graduating in a bad economy has long-lasting economic consequences. For the next 10 to 15 years, those in the Class of 2014 will likely earn less than if they had graduated when job opportunities were plentiful.”

I do not know how many jobs would have to be created each month to catch up with the huge losses under Obama.

But remember, many of the so called jobs created were part time and low wage. Another reason the immigrants have fared better.

My best SWAG would be double the current number with a much higher percentage of full time jobs.

Actually I do have the background to calculate a more accurate number but that requires a reliable starting point & getting that number would be a real challenge

April 2015 employment down 167,000 for white Americans, up 35,000 for Hispanic/Latino.

321,000 white Americans dropped out of the labor force in April and almost 900,000 this year!!

Bet you are not hearing that from the mainstream media!

Contact them now.

*********************************************************

It does not matter what the the April unemployment rate and jobs data is.

You have been lied to by the media and White House.

I am always sickened by the regurgitation of jobs data reporting by the media. Even conservative talk radio media.

Doesn’t anyone care enough to examine the data and not accept the reports at face value.

God bless Jim Clifton, the CEO of Gallup who recently called the unemployment rate a big lie.

He is correct!

I was pleasantly surprised to read the following on Market Watch this AM.

“Obama’s policy failures are not merely matters of public perception, but matters of economic reality as measured by his own administration. President Obama’s policies have resulted in slow economic growth and a chaotic web of foreign policy. We all know the data. The economy is growing at just over 2%. The first quarter of 2015 will likely show a shrinkage in gross domestic product. The unemployment rate is at a low 5.5% because millions of prime-age workers have left the labor force, leaving participation rates at 1978 levels. New employment data will be released on Friday that will indicate how the economy performed in April, the first month of the second quarter.

Young Americans, often known as millennials, are bearing the brunt of the stagnant economy. Youth unemployment, at 10.5%, is more than twice the unemployment rate of those age 25 and up, at 4.4%. If Clinton wants to attract large numbers of millennials, she needs to explain how her policies will be both different from Obama’s and helpful to young people. That explanation has not been forthcoming.”

Also from Market Watch May 6, 2015.

For the first time in about two years, the U.S. created fewer than 200,000 private-sector jobs for two months straight, payrolls processor ADP said Wednesday.

The report will heighten fears that jobs creation — which had been the bright spot of late in the U.S. economy — is continuing to decelerate.

The U.S. created 169,000 private-sector jobs in April, ADP said, after a downwardly revised 175,000 jobs were created in March. From a peak of 284,000 jobs in November, job creation has slowed for five months in a row, ADP says.

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/adp-reports-fifth-straight-slowing-in-jobs-creation-2015-05-06

Another big lie:

“jobs creation — which had been the bright spot of late in the U.S. economy”

Only if you are an immigrant.

If you are a white American, which was 70 percent of the population, you have lost millions of jobs since Obama took the White House in January 2009 and those jobs have not been recovered.

That is why 30 percent of millenials live with family or friends and we have record food stamp use and hunger.

From Citizen Wells April 9, 2015.

“he Obama Ministry of Truth

Tell the big lie and repeat it.

Obama’s White House Council of Economic Advisers crafts the big lie, that a large portion of the drop in labor force participation is due to the aging of the population.

And WhiteHouse.org, in a report crafted by one of the advisers, Jason Furman, a member of the 2008 Obama campaign team, repeats the big lie.

So why was it necessary to devise the big lie and divert attention away from something?

Here is the rest of the story:”

“First let’s address the “February’s strong report “.

From Citizen Wells March 7, 2015.

“Nonfarm payrolls increased 295,000 last month”

“Yet, if you simply look at the data from the US Labor Department you find:

43,000 fewer Whites employed in Feb!!!

There were 354,000 more people not in the labor force!

There were 180,000 more people not in the labor force who want a job now!

There were 250,000 more Hispanic/Latino workers employed since December 2014.

It is worse than that.”

Data from the US Labor Dept. for March 2015.

From Citizen News April 3, 2015.

Also from the same website, historical tables.

There were 106,000 fewer whites employed in March.

You already know by now that one of the reasons for the drop in the labor force participation rate is the drop in employment of younger Americans.

The other big reason, that is not being reported (except here):

From Citizen News April 8, 2015.

“Why is the Obama White House erroneously blaming older workers for the drop in the labor force participation rate?

The answer is simple.

A diversion.

Why is this diversion necessary.

To hide the fact that younger and white American workers are being decimated by the Obama policies which include allowing so many illegals to stay in this country and work.

This is important.

The drop in labor force participation is significant despite the attempts by Obama et al to obfuscate the reasons.

However, perhaps even more significant is the number that are not in the labor force and therefore prevent the participation rate and unemployment rate from being worse.

Let’s focus on white Americans, since at the time the youngest members of the workforce were born, approx. 70 percent of the US population was white.

When Obama and the media lie about the job situation the implication is that all the so called jobs being created are dispersed proportionately.

That is not so.””

“From Pew Research March 26, 2015.

“In a reflection of changes in the overall economy since the Great Recession, the U.S. unauthorized immigrant workforce now holds fewer blue-collar jobs and more white-collar ones than it did before the 2007-2009 recession, but a solid majority still works in low-skilled service, construction and production occupations, according to new Pew Research Center estimates.”

“Unauthorized immigrants made up 5.1% of the nation’s labor force in 2012, numbering 8.1 million who were working or looking for work, according to previously published Pew Research estimates (Passel and Cohn, 2014). But as this new analysis shows, they account for a far higher share of the total workforce in specific jobs, notably farming (26%), cleaning and maintenance (17%), and construction (14%).

The unauthorized immigrant share of the work force peaked at 5.4% in 2007, when the two-year Great Recession began.

The number in the labor force has ranged from 8.1 million to 8.3 million since 2007. The relative stability of the size of the unauthorized immigrant labor force since 2007 contrasts with a marked decline in the overall U.S. unauthorized immigrant population, which peaked at 12.2 million in 2007, dropped through 2009 and stabilized after that, to total 11.2 million in 2012 (Passel and Cohn, 2014).””

The US Labor Dept. BLS reports a drop in initial claims.

There is no one left to lay off.

During Obama’s tenure, there were over 12 million more Americans not in the labor force and over 8 million fewer whites.

Of the mostly part time lower wage jobs added whites gained only 1 percent compared to almost 23 percent for Hispanics.

We have not even caught up with jobs lost during Obama’s 6 years, especially when you factor in the folks aging in to the labor force.

It is important to note that initial claims do not include everyone.

“While the UI claims data provide useful information, they are not used to measure total unemployment because they exclude several important groups. To begin with, not all workers are covered by UI programs. For example, self-employed workers, unpaid family workers, workers in certain not-for-profit organizations, and several other small (primarily seasonal) worker categories are not covered.

In addition, the insured unemployed exclude the following:

  1. Unemployed workers who have exhausted their benefits.
  2. Unemployed workers who have not yet earned benefit rights (such as new entrants or reentrants to the labor force).
  3. Disqualified workers whose unemployment is considered to have resulted from their own actions rather than from economic conditions; for example, a worker fired for misconduct on the job.
  4. Otherwise eligible unemployed persons who do not file for benefits.

Because of these and other limitations, statistics on insured unemployment cannot be used as a measure of total unemployment in the United States. Indeed, over the past decade, only about one-third of the total unemployed, on average, received regular UI benefits.”

Also noteworthy.

From January 24, 2009 of the initial claims history there was a covered employment of 133,886,830.

The latest number is 133,397,155.

I found that interesting.

***  UPDATE BELOW  ***

The January 2015 employment data for NC was announced March 17.

Several days ago I attempted to access the LAUS, Local Area Unemployment Statistics, for North Carolina.
I got this message :

“Due to maintenance this site is temporarily unavailable.

You can access our data using one of our other available applications:
AccessNC OR NCWorks

If you need to contact us please call 919.707.1500.”

The next day I called, was transferred to a specialist & left a message.

I have received no return call.

From the US Labor Department BLS.

“What does the LAUS 2015 Redesign entail?

The 2015 LAUS Redesign includes improved time-series models for the census divisions, states, select substate areas, and the balances of those states; an improved real-time benchmarking procedure to the national Current Population Survey (CPS) estimates; an improved smoothed seasonal adjustment procedure; and improved treatment of outliers.

Non-modeled area estimation improvements include: updated Dynamic Residency Ratios (DRR); more accurate estimates for all-other employment; more accurate estimation of agricultural employment; and improved estimation of non-covered agricultural unemployment. Handbook estimation is now done at the county level instead of at the Labor Market Area (LMA) level, which better reflects local conditions. The Redesign also introduces estimation inputs from the American Community Survey (ACS) to replace inputs that were previously obtained from the decennial census long-form survey.

In addition, 2010 Office of Management and Budget (OMB) delineations for metropolitan areas, metropolitan divisions, and micropolitan areas and new LAUS small labor market areas will be implemented with the 2015 LAUS Redesign.

How often does LAUS conduct major redesigns to its methodology?
Typically every 10 years.

When will the LAUS 2015 Redesign changes be implemented?
The 2015 Redesign is being implemented with the publication of January 2015 estimates.”

“Why is LAUS making these program improvements?

Some issues have been identified with the 2005 methods of estimation at the state and substate levels that affect accuracy and analysis of the estimates. Because LAUS is committed to producing high-quality data, it must conduct research and improve its methods and procedures. Moreover, when data sources cease to exist, it must find new sources to replace them. The 2015 state and substate estimation approaches generate more accurate and reliable estimates.”

“How will the LAUS 2015 Redesign affect historical comparisons?

For the census divisions, states, and balance of states, the entire historical series from January 1976 forward will be replaced with estimates based on the redesigned models. For the five modeled metropolitan areas and divisions, the plan is to re-estimate back to 1990. For the remaining substate areas, the re-estimation with the new methodology will be carried back to 2010. Hence, many areas can be expected to display breaks in series between 2009 and 2010.”

I can’t wait to see the “rectifications.”

I have criticized NC Governor Pat McCrory as well as Obama.

From Citizen Wells February 5, 2015.

From the State Of the State speech February 4, 2015.

“As I said, two years ago, our unemployment rate was the fifth highest in the nation. So we all rolled up our sleeves, made the tough decisions, and as of today, the private sector has created nearly 200,000 new jobs. We went from the 5th highest in unemployment to the 23rd lowest, and now we’re even beating South Carolina. Despite this tremendous accomplishment there are still a lot of communities, small businesses, and individuals that are hurting, and there is still much work to be done. Therefore, my administration’s focus will be on five areas that have the greatest impact on our people. ”

“Much of the drop in the unemployment rate in NC came from people dropping out of the labor force.

From Citizen Wells December 21, 2014.

“Despite what you may have read from the low information mainstream media, baby boomers retiring are not the cause of the drop in the labor force in NC or US.

Do the math or read prior articles at Citizen Wells.

Lack of jobs is the problem.

From May of 2008 to November of 2014, the labor force participation rate plummeted 5 percent in NC. The unemployment rate is the same.””

“Greensboro News Record February 5, 2015.

“The unemployment rate in the Greensboro-High Point metro area decreased to 5.3 percent in December 2014, compared with 6.9 percent in December 2013, according to a report from the N.C. Department of Commerce.”

““The state’s labor force shrunk 0.2 percent in November, losing 13,534 people. Over the past year, the labor force has shrunk 0.7 percent, for a reduction of 31,665 people.

A shrinking labor force will drive down the unemployment rate because fewer people are looking for work.””

“From the Center for Immigration Studies August 2014.

“An analysis of government data by the Center for Immigration Studies shows that, since 2000, all of the net increase in the number of working-age (16 to 65) people holding a job in North Carolina has gone to immigrants (legal and illegal). This is the case even though the native-born accounted for 61 percent of growth in the state’s total working-age population.””

The primary reason that the unemployment rate has dropped is due to the plummet of the labor force participation.

“Of the approx. 6 million new employments since Obama took office in January 2009, 4,511,000, 75 percent, were Hispanic/Latino!”…Citizen Wells

“In February 2015 there were 43,000 fewer white Americans employed, 354,000 more not in the labor force, 96,000 more employed and we added 295,000 jobs? Was Common Core math used?”…Citizen Wells

“Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.”…George Orwell, “1984″

Don’t forget, each January the Labor Dept. “rectifies” the employment data.

From Zero Hedge March 17, 2015.

“Something Strange Is Going On With Nonfarm Payrolls”

“Let’s start with the basics: why is there a majority consensus that the Fed will hike rates after it removes its “patient” language tomorrow? One simple reason: non-farm payrolls. As reported earlier in the month, following the report of March’s expectations smashing 295,000 jobs added, there have now been a 13 consecutive months of 200K+ payroll months…”

“So a pattern emerges: we have an economy in which jobs and only jobs are acting as if there is a strong recovery, while everything else is sliding, disappointing economists, and in fact hinting at another contraction (whatever you do, don’t look at the Fed’s internal model of Q1 GDP).

To be sure, economists these days are better known as weathermen, and so they are quick to blame every economic disappointment on the weather. Because, you see, they were unaware it was snowing outside when they provided their forecasts about the future, a future which should be impacted by the snowfall that day, and which they promptly scapegoat as the reason for their cluelessness. Yet one wonders: why didn’t the harsh snow (in the winter) pound February jobs as well? Recall last year’s payroll disappointments were immediately blamed on the weather which was just as “harsh” as this year. Why the difference?

And yet, today this rising “anomaly” between Nonfarm Payolls “data” and everything else, hit a crescendo, and some – such as Jim Bianco – have had it with the lies anomalies, which prompted him to ask the following:
Why Are Construction Jobs and Housing Starts Telling Different Stories? Is The Problem Non-Farm Payrolls”

JobsHousingStarts

“So, instead of asking why everything else is showing an abnormal – and rapid – slowdown in the US economy (and blaming everything on snow) is it about time that everyone – the Fed included – finally asks:just what is going on with the “data” that is reported every month by the Bureau of Labor Statistics?”

From Citizen Wells March 14, 2015.

“You don’t have to be a rocket scientist or a math whiz to evaluate the data from the US Labor Department.

You just have to care and have basic math skills.

Sadly this is lacking in the mainstream media.

Even Fox News.

Some of the more blatant lies (yes Gallup CEO Jim Clifton was correct to call them lies), relate to the unemployment rate and it’s improvement and job growth.

For example, in February 2015 the Labor Dept. reported 295,000 jobs added.

However, there was only a 96,000  gain in employment.

And Whites had 43,000  fewer employments!

There were 354,000 more people not in the labor force!

There were 180,000 more people not in the labor force who want a job now!

Did you know?

5,205,000 full time employments were lost during the first year of Obama’s occupation of the White House from January 2009 to January 2010?

2.8 million white Americans fewer were employed during Obama’s first year.

During Obama’s term, from January 2009 to now, 75 percent of the employment went to Hispanics/Latinos.

Since it is PI Day and Einstein’s birthday, I present some new data and a math lesson. Math that I understood by the fifth grade.

Below are the changes in employment by race during the first 6 years of the Obama Administration.

The ratio of employment added in 6 years over employment in Jan. 2009 is given with the resulting percent change over 6 years.

White

1,172,000 / 116,863,000 = .01 = 1 %

Black

1,590,000 / 15,481,000 = .103 = 10.3 %

Hispanic/Latino

4,511,000 / 19,794,000 = .228 = 22.8 %

Asian

1,934,000 / 6,606,000 = .293 = 29.3 %

How do you like those numbers?

Seen/heard them reported by the White House or mainstream media, Fox?

Our math capabilities have diminished in this country.

But our real problems are priorities and integrity.”

Recession over June 2009???

From Citizen Wells March 2, 2015.

“Here is the truth:

Job recovery of what jobs?

It is questionable if we have recovered the jobs lost prior to Obama taking office.

2.8 million white Americans fewer were employed during Obama’s first year.

During Obama’s term, from January 2009 to now, 75 percent of the employment went to Hispanics/Latinos.

New entrants to the labor market, those turning 16, netted by deaths yields at least 9 million new workers.

The US Labor Dept. states that we have approx. 15.5 million more in the labor force since January 2009.

4.7 million migrants were given work permits and God only knows how many more illegals entered the country.

There was an increase of over 12 million not in the labor force since Obama took office.

This is one reason that millennials are having a tough time.

Of the jobs touted in the article above for last year, 1.3 million went to Hispanic/Latinos. Almost as much as White Americans.”

https://citizenwells.wordpress.com/2015/03/02/job-recovery-a-lie-over-9-million-millennials-entered-job-market-2-8-million-fewer-white-americans-employed-in-obamas-first-year-4-7-million-migrants-given-work-permits-sloppy-reporting-bias-orw/

So, in 2009, Obama’s first year in office, we lost 5,088,000 jobs, added at least 1.5 million legal workers to the labor force and God only knows how many illegals.

Oh sure, the recession was over in June 2009 and the economy was well on the way to recovery….if you are on drugs,

Perhaps that explains it.

From IHS February 24, 2015.

“Hispanics Will Account for More Than 40 Percent of the Increase in U.S. Employment in the Next Five Years, IHS Study Says

Share of job growth will rise to more than 75 percent from 2020 to 2034”

“The Hispanic population will play an increasingly significant role in future U.S. employment growth, accounting for more than 40 percent of growth in the next five years and more than 75 percent between 2020 and 2034 – an increase of 11 million jobs out of an economy-wide gain of 14 million –according to a new study from IHS Inc. (NYSE: IHS), a leading global source of critical information and insight.

The IHS study, Hispanic Immigration and U.S. Economic Growth, projects that Hispanic employment growth will average 2.6 percent per year over the next 20 years. At the same time, growth of the non-Hispanic working age population will slow to near zero, and new non-Hispanic entrants to the labor force will barely offset retiring Baby Boomers. As a result, the Hispanic share of total U.S. employment will rise from 16 percent in 2014 to 23 percent in 2034.

Other key findings include:

  • Immigration will play a key role in future U.S. employment growth. By 2020, labor force growth is expected to slow to the point that the annual change in the labor force is roughly equal to the amount of net migration.
  • Despite a generally positive long-term economic outlook for Latin American countries, the U.N. projects continuing net outmigration from the 10 Latin American countries and Puerto Rico that are the primary countries of origin of the foreign-born U.S. Hispanic population.
  • According to U.S. Census Bureau assumptions about future Hispanic net international migration, the number of foreign born Hispanics will grow from 22 million in 2014 to over 29 million in 2034, and the foreign-born share of the Hispanic population will fall slowly over this period – from 39.7% to 34.8%.
  • The number of Hispanics that speak Spanish in the home will rise from 36.9 million in 2014 to 55.4 million in 2034.
  • Higher levels of immigration are conducive to stronger U.S. economic growth, and there are credible scenarios for higher levels of Hispanic immigration than assumed in the study’s baseline forecast.”
