Secure schools not empower criminals, Gun control does not protect children, Sandy Hook poorly prepared, CT strict gun laws failed, Keep criminals and insane away from buildings

Gun control has never worked and never will work. It is the solution of dictators and those lacking reason and accountability.

We secure our businesses with armed guards and security cameras. Rational and responsible members of society protect their families with security systems and weapons. Why have we not protected our schools?

Focusing on gun control is a knee jerk reaction that does not work and does not address the real issues of protecting our children.

Guns are not the issue, school security is.

There are many ways to commit mass murders of children, including explosives as simple as molotov cocktails, fire, poisoned air, poisoned water, poisoned food, crashing vehicles, etc.

The worst school disaster happened in Bath Township, Michigan May 18, 1927. 38 elementary school children and 6 adults were killed and at least 58 others injured. Dynamite was used.

Elementary and Kindergarten aged children are the most vulnerable and should receive the most protection. Here are some common sense based remedies that will greatly improve the security for these children.

1. Monitor the areas outside the buildings. This would include monitored security cameras and some combination of walk arounds by staff and or security personnel.

2. Security alarms for illegal entry.

3. Buffered entry ways. i.e. double entry ways. The first door should set off the alarm and the second would slow down intrusion.

4. Stronger doorways.

5. Regular drills for emergency preparedness. We had those when I was in grade school.

6. As many armed school personnel as possible. “Good guys with guns to stop the bad guys with guns.” Each armed person should be psychologically evaluated.

As strange as it may sound, we have been fortunate that only guns have been mostly used. The Sandy Hook tragedy could have been much worse.

Thank God some people are waking up, purchasing weapons and taking advantage of free training.

Thank God also for the Tenth Amendment which allows for state autonomy.

Despite the idiotic Gun Free School Zones Act of 1990, many states allow weapons in schools under controlled circumstances.

Too bad they did not at Sandy Hook.

“With the debate over gun violence reshaped by the shooting deaths of 20 children and six adults at a Connecticut elementary school last month, lawmakers across the country are pushing proposals to arm teachers in the classroom. But many of them may be wasting their time.

More than a third of the states already allow teachers and other adults to carry guns to school. In most cases, all you need is the equivalent of a note from the principal — you usually don’t even need law enforcement approval.

NBC News reviewed the firearms and education laws in all 50 states and found that 18 of them allow adults to have a loaded gun on school grounds, usually as long as they have written permission.

That’s for pretty much any reason; the list doesn’t include states that generally ban guns but carve out narrow exceptions for specific activities like safety demonstrations or military formations and parades.

The families of the children murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary School, as well as other Newtown, Conn., community members, are demanding change. NBC’s Anne Thompson reports.

During a Tea Party forum in Fort Worth, Texas Gov. Rick Perry became one of the first prominent officials after the Dec. 14 shootings to call for teachers to be allowed to carry firearms to work — even though Texas already allows any qualified adult to do so as long as the principal OKs it.

Since then, lawmakers in several states have jumped on board with proposals that mirror laws already on the books.”

“The Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990 prohibits anyone from having a firearm in a school zone. But that law includes the same exception recognized by the states identified in NBC News’ survey: It doesn’t apply if the weapons are “approved by a school in the school zone.”

And in any event, Reps. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., and Steve Stockman, R-Texas, have introduced measures in the new Congress that would repeal the federal law altogether.

Here are the 18 states that allow adults to carry loaded weapons onto school grounds with few or minor conditions:

  • Alabama (which bans possessing a weapon on school grounds only if the carrier has “intent to do bodily harm”)
  • California (with approval of the superintendent)
  • Connecticut (with approval of “school officials”)
  • Hawaii (no specific law)
  • Idaho (with school trustees’ approval)
  • Iowa (with “authorization”)
  • Kentucky (with school board approval)
  • Massachusetts (with approval of the school board or principal)
  • Mississippi (with school board approval)
  • Montana (with school trustees’ permission)
  • New Hampshire (ban applies only to pupils, not adults)
  • New Jersey (with approval from the school’s “governing officer”)
  • New York (with the school’s approval)
  • Oregon (with school board approval)
  • Rhode Island (with a state concealed weapons permit)
  • Texas (with the school’s permission)
  • Utah (with approval of the “responsible school administrator”)
  • Wyoming (as long as it’s not concealed)”

    This is THE issue that Americans should be most worried about.

  5. I do not believe we are on the brink of gun control…rather, I believe we are on the brink of civil war.
    By moving forward so rapidly on these statist issues, the executive has tipped it’s hand as to their ultimate intentions. This overall, rapid/rabid shift to the political left has gone beyond what it will take to commit the middle class to action.
    I don’t really understand what people hope to accomplish by joining the NRA other than to support a possible final peaceful resolution to this political crisis while averting the inevitable.
    I am a firm believer that, even if Obama is not aware of the exploitable power that resides in the executive office of this country, his handlers and lieutenants most assuredly do.
    As in the foregoing statements, I refer to the executive in the plural, as all the activity displayed to present is the result of a collective of legal minds. Make no mistake, this agenda is not new. It is a virtual copy of global communist activity designed to topple entire governments.
    While outright military insurgency would have been considered unthinkably risky, the penetration of our government politically would be the next most obvious route. I can promise you these people KNOW the meaning of the 2nd Amendment, and why it was placed in our Constitution.. We need not continue to ask ourselves whether or not this is true. Recently, they have overtly hammered away at various other of our protected rights with limited success recognizing all the while that because of the 2nd Amendment, Americans do not necessarily need to take our politicians too seriously.
    Today, however, should be considered to be the beginning of the end, either of the Obama administration….. or the United States. Indeed, they have taken the first step across the invisible line in the sand so-to-speak, and made their initial political assault. If we allow the 2nd to be nullified now, the next 4 years will be something we will regret for the rest of our lives…and most likely the lives of all our successive generations.

    Larry Hyatt, owner of Hyatt Gun Shop in Charlotte, N.C. The nation’s biggest arms store, Charlotte, N.C.’s Hyatt Gun Shop, is calling on gun owners to revolt against President Obama’s new gun control move, warning that Washington has its eyes on trashing the Second Amendment and stealing gun rights.

    Hyatt has turned part of its retail webpage over to the plea for action: “Whining to other gun owners and giving up on dialogue with your representatives in Congress is how you GIVE AWAY your gun rights! Remember to contact your representative and senator TODAY and keep contacting them. We cannot stress this enough!”

    Owner Larry Hyatt told Secrets, “People are outraged. They hate the government. I don’t think we’ve seen this much divisiveness since the Civil War.”

    Hyatt’s store is big. Secrets toured it during the Democratic National Convention. He describes it as America’s largest gun store and it sells many of the weapons the president wants to ban, like assault-style rifles and high-capacity magazines.

    He is urging gun owners to beg their House and Senate members to temper the president’s effort. “Don’t waste your time with the president,” he said, adding: “The American people are the most scared of the government and what it might do next.”

    He said that his store has been flooded with customers since Obama began talking about gun control following the December Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in Newtown, Conn. New gun permits in his county have tripled to 260 a day and Hyatt’s classes for those seeking permits to carry a concealed weapon have jumped from 20 to 67. “There are so many people that we can’t get them in,” he said.

  8. It’s all very frustrating. The Sandy Hook massacre has nothing to do with guns, but a larger issue here in America and that’s mental illness.

    Whether its someone offing children at a school, someone shooting people in a theatre, moms drowning their kids, the crazy homeless people I have to step over on the way to work, the only common thread with all of these tragedies is mental illness. This what the discussion should be about, not infringing on our rights as American Citizens.

    I know this is easy math for those that visit this blog, but I wanted to put it out there, so you can remind those who are so quick to take our guns, that they are missing the point and doing nothing more than filling the role of useful idiots.

    Believe it or not, there’s a Democratic Senator from NY that echoed the same point. I don’t say this often with Democrats, but Senator Ball hit the nail on the head. If you haven’t seen his comments the link is below.

    The line in the sand is being drawn. Pick your side, because there will be Americans killing Americans, before any sort of impeachment proceedings are put on the table.

  9. I have to ask, has anyone else viewed the YouTube videos that interview the people who were connected to the alleged Sandy Hook victims? I’ve seen a lot of family members and a teacher of the alleged victims being interviewed, and wow, they act just like actors! None of them are crying, in fact some are downright chipper. I thought I would see all distraught, disheveled persons being interviewed, that could barely speak due to the horrific nature of the tragedy, but no, they all faked their emotions, worse than Barry did when he was on TV, wiping away his fake tears! Please, take a look at some of these videos for yourself before asking yourself, could these be actors and actresses here? I know, it is very hard for me to fathom this also. View 5 or 6 of them and see if you detect something big and fishy in Sandy Hook.

    Thankyou for that powerful video! He has more guts than any Republican I’ve seen recently.

    A close friend of mine found herself in a very similar situation as that woman that the Senator mentioned. She has a son who was mentally ill and had threatened family members with violence. Because he was not a minor, she was unable to force him to take his medication. She sought help from authorities over and over to no avail. Finally, he snapped one day and attacked his mom, leaving her bruised and battered. She called the police, and because she had physical evidence of injury, he was taken to jail. That is not what she wanted. She wanted to get him help………..not punishment. He spent 9 months there and was labeled a “terrorist”.

    Finally a reasonable judge heard her plea and released him under a program that monitors his medication at home (weekly), and insures that he take steps to improve his job skills.

    As my friend points out, “Why couldn’t they have done that in the beginning? Why did it have to reach a crisis?”

    This is not the end of her story, but I have to say that he has greatly improved. Her family shared last Christmas with us and he was a joy to be around. He had only been released the day before Thanksgiving, but he was joyful, thankful and at peace. He was a blessing.

  12. Remember this…in an oligharchy, only those at the top will prosper. Those currently in power in Washington see the situation as being that they cannot lose. They, and their heirs, will end up being the owners of the means of production, and be at the virtual top of a bottom-up, pyramid style of economic system. In order for this plan to succeed however, they must eliminate the middle class, as they (the middle class) expect (and desire) too much, and besides, they own all those very expensive guns.
    Let’s face it, they (our representatives who see themselves as the ruling class) have seen us as nothing more that serfs (potential votes ) for years. At least if they are successful, they will not need to worry about votes any longer. It has now become far easier (and fashionable) to just steal them.

    I’m not sure about this Republican insider guy…or any of the others for that matter.
    While reading the narrative at Ulsterman, it makes me wonder if this purported character isn’t living in some sort of fantasy land. The Republican Party is in trouble. I don’t see that they did anything any more definitive than “posturing” over an issue as incredibly important as this, which doesn’t come as any great shock.. There were supposedly 23 EO’s and we aren’t even sure what was in them yet.
    There were a ton of negative things advanced by the administration concerning this issue.
    While we’re on the subject…what about all the impeachable offenses the Repubs are content to look the other way on? I don’t believe for a second that Obama was forced, or felt forced, to do anything. I believe that his handlers know exactly what they are doing and were more than eager to see what result this assault on the Constitution would produce. Based on what we can see, it will only make our lives more difficult, (as if that were possible) and provide the platform that they will undoubtedly build upon.
    I personally believe that the repubs need to actually DO something before beating on their chests.

    And then I heard Obama say that doing a back ground check on someone who wanted to purchase a gun, was common sense, but yet try to argue that point on voting, and see how far you get.

    A bunch of hypocrites.

    I predict that in 15 years, long after Obama is out of office, this administration will be shown to have been the most corrupt administration in history.

    I just hope that by then we have started to fix the problems WITH this Country. I fear we won’t be though, and things will be a whole lot worse than they are now.

    I need some advice.

    I will be taking the MA firearms safety course on 2/2 and then, apply for my concealed carry permit.

    After all that, which organization do you suggest I join: NRA, GOA, or another group? I’d like to be affiliated with one of them, but don’t know which one to join.

    I hear that the NRA isn’t what they advertise themselves to be and that GOA is a lot better.

    Any suggestions from the sharpshooters here at CW’s would be appreciated :).

    If you want to be a member of an organization with political clout and connections, go with the NRA.
    If you desire to be a shooting enthusiast and be well informed, go with GOA.
    None of this is to say that either of these organizations is perfect…they are not.
    The NRA has been around forever, and has many many venues for whatever you might want to do, especially if you are just getting started. It’s going to be a matter of personal preference.
    The main thing is to be safe, as you are now dealing with tools with extremely lethal capability and, as the Zimmerman incident in Florida will attest to, there is a liability aspect to carrying and USING weapons such as these that absolutely must be considered. You will now literally have the power of life and death over other people, and the ability to choose who will live and who will die. Even police officers, with all their training, must live with this reality daily, and with he sincere hope that they will never have to make these decisions…and for them it just keeps getting dicier (legally) every day. Just a little food for thought.

    That is why our Country was so much better than what the rest of the World has been. For the most part, we followed God’s model for civil government; other countries didn’t.

    The blessing which flows from God’s model is limited civil government which is under The Law. That is why our Liberty Bell quotes Lev. 25:10 – “Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the Land unto all the Inhabitants thereof.”

    In this paper, I will show you Six Principles which come from the Bible and how our Framers applied them. In a future paper, I will show you Six Biblical Principles Thomas Jefferson listed in the Declaration of Independence, and how those Principles are also incorporated into our Constitution.

    1. The Civil Authorities are under the Law.

    The Bible: God is The Lawmaker – the kings are to apply God’s Law.[2]

    • Deut. 17:18-20: The king is to write out a copy of God’s Law. He is to have it by him and read from it all his life so that he may keep, observe, and apply it.

    • 1 Kings 2:1-4: King David on his deathbed tells Solomon he must conform to God’s ways, and observe his statutes, commandments and judgments, as written in the Law of Moses.

    The parallel in our Constitution is that the Constitution is the Supreme Law which the civil authorities are to obey.

    Noah Webster’s 1828 American Dictionary defines “constitution”:

    “…In free states, the constitution is paramount to the statutes or laws enacted by the legislature, limiting and controlling its power; and in the United States, the legislature is created, and its powers designated, by the constitution.” [boldface added]

    Our Constitution is the Standard by which the validity of all Acts of Congress, all acts of the Executive Branch, all judicial opinions, and all Treaties is measured and judged (Art. VI, cl. 2).

    Do you see? Law comes from a higher source than the civil authorities. The “Rule of Law” prevails when the civil authorities obey that higher Law – be it God’s Law or our Constitution.

    Tyrants, on the other hand, claim that they are the source of law. […]”

    “The future of our Posterity depends on a proper understanding of the Source of our Rights. I will explain four views; show you which one is True, and why the other three are False and lead inexorably to the destruction of any country which embraces them.

    1. Let us begin with what is True: Our Declaration of Independence says our Rights come from God. Our rights thus pre-date & pre-exist the U.S. Constitution. The Declaration of Independence says:

    We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…

    So these, then, are the foundational principles of our Constitutional Republic:

    · Our Rights are unalienable and come from God;
    · The purpose of civil government is to protect our God-given Rights;
    · Civil government is legitimate only when it operates with our consent; &
    · Since the US Constitution is the formal expression of the Will of the People, the federal government operates with our consent only when it obeys the Constitution.

    ===> Because the Declaration of Independence identifies The Creator as Grantor of Rights, we look to The Bible – or the Natural Law – to see what those rights are.

    ===> The Bible – or the Natural Law – reveals many rights, such as the rights to Life, Liberty, the Pursuit of Happiness; to inherit, earn, and keep property; the right of self-defense; the right and duty to demand that the civil authorities obey the Law; the right to speak; the right to live our lives free from interference from civil government; the rights of parents to raise their children free from interference from civil government; the right to worship God; etc.

    The distinguishing characteristics of all God-given or Natural Rights 1 are:

    · Each one may be held and enjoyed at NO expense or loss to any other person; and

    · We can look them up for ourselves! They are not subject to someone else’s interpretations.

    2. But many conservatives mistakenly believe that our rights come from the first Ten Amendments to the Constitution. So they speak of “our constitutional rights”, “the bill of rights”, our “First Amendment right to free speech”; “our Second Amendment right to bear arms”, and so forth. But it is a dreadful mistake to think that our rights come from the Constitution. I’ll show you two reasons why this is such a pernicious error:

    a) It is logically incoherent to say that our Rights come from the Constitution: Let us read the Preamble to the US Constitution:

    WE THE PEOPLE of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

    ===> WE THE PEOPLE established and ordained the Constitution. WE are the ones who created the federal government with its three branches: legislative, executive, and judicial. WE are the ones who gave the federal government permission to exist and told it exactly what it had permission to do, when WE assigned enumerated powers to each branch.

    ===> WE are the “creator” – the federal government is merely our “creature”. (Federalist No. 33 ( 6th para), A. Hamilton.)

    ===> So! The Constitution is about the Powers which WE THE PEOPLE delegated to the federal government. The Constitution is NOT about Our Rights, which come from God and thus pre-date & pre-exist the Constitution!

    b) Now look at Article III, Sec. 2, clause 1, U.S. Constitution:

    “The judicial Power shall extend to all Cases…arising under this Constitution…”.

    ===> Think carefully, for this is the hook: If our rights come from the first Ten Amendments or elsewhere in the Constitution, then they “arise under the Constitution”; and that clause is what gives federal judges power over our rights!

    ===> When judges have power to determine our Rights, our Rights are no longer unalienable – we hold them at the pleasure of five judges on the supreme Court. But because so many of us, for so long, have believed and said that our rights come from the “bill of rights”, those judges have seized on Art. III, Sec. 2, clause 1, to claim the power to determine the scope & extent of our rights!”
