“On Monday’s CBS This Morning, Cheesecake Factory CEO David Overton spotlighted the looming economic impact of Obamacare’s implementation, especially on small enterprises: “For those businesses that don’t cover their employees, they’ll be in for a very expensive situation.” Overton also warned that the cost of the law would be passed on to customers.
Anchor Norah O’Donnell raised the issue of the still-controversial health care law: “One of the things that’s going to change, of course, in the new year is ObamaCare, or the Affordable Care Act. How do you implement that at Cheesecake Factory, and how will you pay for health care for all of your employees?”
The restaurant chain executive pointed out that, unlike many businesses, The Cheesecake Factory is “already…paying a great deal in health care. So, we’re not sure how much more it will be – or how much less – or what exactly we’ll do. So, for us, it won’t be as bad as it will be for others, which it will be very costly.”
O’Donnell followed up by asking about the possibility increased prices for customers: “When you say it will be very costly, it will be passed on to who – the customers?” Overton confirmed that this would be the case: “Well, I believe most people will have to do that or cheapen their product.”
It’s surprising that the liberal morning newscast would bring on a critic of ObamaCare. The decision could be explained by anchor Charlie Rose mentioning ex-Al Gore adviser Dr. Atul Gawande’s compliment of The Cheesecake Factory in a recent article in The New Yorker.
Rose later rephrased his co-anchor’s earlier question: “Are you worried about this – ObamaCare – and how you provide the health care?” The CEO replied by again pointing out the high cost to businesses:
DAVID OVERTON: Not worried yet – and, when I hear the numbers, I might be. But, again, because we spend millions and millions of dollars today on health care, we don’t know exactly how much more we’ll pay. For those businesses that don’t cover their employees, they’ll be in for a very expensive situation.
When Papa John’s CEO John Schnatter sounded the same warning earlier in 2012, liberals called for a boycott of the pizza chain. Conservatives responded by organizing a National Papa John’s Appreciation Day online. It shouldn’t be a surprise if left-of-center activists target The Cheesecake Factory next.

NORAH O’DONNELL: I have a really important question for you: one of the things that’s going to change, of course, in the new year is ObamaCare, or the Affordable Care Act. How do you implement that at Cheesecake Factory, and how will you pay for health care for all of your employees?
DAVID OVERTON, CHEESECAKE FACTORY CEO: Well, that – that’s a big question. We are working on that right now. We – we have been waiting to see what people will do and what’s really happening and what the – the different requirements will be. However, we do cover everyone that works over 25 hours today. So, unlike a lot of businesses, we already are paying a great deal in health care. So, we’re not sure how much more it will be – or how much less – or what exactly we’ll do. So, for us, it won’t be as bad as it will be for others, which it will be very costly.
O’DONNELL: But – but when you say it will be very costly, it will be passed on to who – the customers?
OVERTON: Well, I believe most people will have to do that or cheapen their product-
O’DONNELL: And how much do you think you will have to raise prices in order to pay for health care?
OVERTON: Well, as they say, we don’t know what – we don’t know what it is right now. We don’t know if what we’re actually paying is very, very close – and we won’t have to raise prices. So, we’ll see. I’d love to answer that for you – maybe in a year, I could.
CHARLIE ROSE: Okay. And so, and that point, a year from now, what would we be able to learn from you, you think, because The New Yorker magazine wrote this article saying that you had a lot of things that you could teach – from your experiences with health care.
OVERTON: I think – yeah – I think Doctor [Atul] Gawande. It’s not that I teach. He’s looking at us as a model. He thinks we’re the gold standard of the restaurant business. We do so many things right. We train; we innovate; we cut cost; and we – and we completely change the menu twice a year. And he’s never had a bad meal, and he says, how can we cook a thousand meals a day and get consistency? Wouldn’t that be a great model for the health care industry? So, he’s taking us and not linking us, as much as saying, these guys know what they’re doing. Over the years, they’ve really built a model that works. Why can’t we be more like them?
ROSE: Are you worried about this – ObamaCare – and how you provide the health care?

Good evening folks, OldSalt, IB, Cabby, SueQ, and all my many other friends of which I think of every day, even when I am not present on this site. All of you are still in my heart, thoughts and prayers daily.
I cannot possibly put into writing my perspective on this whole fiasco with the election, fraud, contracts, media and frankly BS from all of this we are witnessing, but I will ramble briefly – if I may.
The GOP doesn’t get it! And since becoming RINO’s with this “we have to reach across the Isle to the Socialist and meet in the middle” BS paradigm, they began losing their Party faith (such as me) awhile back.
I am of the opinion that the plummets of self-destruction escalated after the 2010 mid-term elections, when the Tea-Party put them in Congress as a show of Republican Conservative Citizens strength, then in turn, spit in our face – literally. Many of the GOP then began denouncing the Tea-Party to the liberal media under pressure, name-called and belittled their own voters that put them in power. This was over 70% of their own voting base they denounced.
If that wasn’t enough damage to their own voting base, the GOP (RINO’s) then bashed, trashed, belittled, name-called, their own voting base which wanted answers to BHO documents, which was also over 70% of their base voters.
It doesn’t take a PhD Rocket Scientist to figure out that if you bash your own party voters and call them stupid, morons, idiots, conspiracy theorists, extremists, ect., over and over again on National T.V. to the liberal media, that you should be “Shocked” that you didn’t win an election. Call me Fickle.
But they still don’t get it. The GOP can end this, and end it now, if they wanted too. Leading in fear of the Socialist Democrats and Obama, from the media and being labeled as Racists is what they did, and got them no-where.
So the question remains! Will the GOP turn over (bend over) and take it more and allow Obama and the Socialists to ruin this Country? Or will they finally listen and do what is right?
General Custer also made that same fatal mistake of not listening to his base, but his arrogance created a disaster, one of which he could not right for his self-denial of the problem. The Lakota assisted with that by ramming stick rods through his ears – so he could “Hear” better.

But to be honest and being a Monday morning quarterback, we should have seen this coming when McCain was nominated.
Talk about the Godfather of those who want to “compromise” only to be sold down the river by the Democrats NOT holding up their end of the bargain, and doing this over and over and over again.
It started with Reagan. He raised taxes under the “deal” that for every dollar taxes were raised, he would get two dollars in spending cuts. If I remember correctly this was negotiated with Tip O’Neal. The tax increases were right away with the “promise” over the upcoming years.
Never happened.
The Republicans are now simply treading water, the people “spoke” in 2010, and Reid and the Senate not only spat on the Republicans and TEA Party voters, they spat on the WHOLE of the Country, because their actions are NOT good, they are disastrous, and they know it, unless they are ignorant.
But then you have Republicans sitting right next to the Democrats doing the same thing.

One other issue that really, really pisses me off is the Benghazi investigations. It is not what you may think that irritates me, I’ll explain.
Why are we even investigating this to begin with? Why are the Republicans even involved in investigating this? Why are they asking questions, setting up hearings, demanding documents, calling people liars, putting people under oath for congressional testimonies? Why are they “Fishing” for the truth?
You see, that is what pisses me off. Why? I’ll tell you.
When it came to Obama’s documents for investigation, they refused. Instead they took the road of: “Well Obama said he was born there, so I believe him at his word”. And: “A public official has said so, so we believe them at their word.
So here is the moronic question. Why are the Republican hypocrites not taking the Presidents “word” for the Benghazi incident? Why are the Republicans not taking MANY elected and appointed officials “word” at it?
Why did the Republicans not take the “word” in testimony of America’s highest ranking Military officer? Why did the Republican’s not take the “word” of the highest ranking member of our Intelligence agency?
If taking the “word” of someone is good enough for them, then they should never question Benghazi, period.

It just seems to me that the media and Republicans will NOT educate the people that the SENATE has NOT passed a budget since Obama came in to office.
I believe the Senate passed a budget in Feb of 2009 right after Obama was sworn in, and hasn’t since.
This should be news EVERY day that it goes on.
The BIGGEST responsibility the Congress has is to pass a yearly budget (NOT continuing resolutions).
Since 2010, the Republicans have passed a budget and sometimes multiple bills and sent them to the Senate, and the Reid will NOT allow the bills to come to the floor of the Senate for a vote. One was even Obama’s OWN BUDGET that Reid wouldn’t allow to come to the floor for a vote (or maybe it went for a vote and it was 99-0 AGAINST it).
This is HUGE news to me, but seems to be pooh poohed off by the media and the Republicans.
Our Congress is elected to take care of the Country’s BUSINESS, and NOT to “take care” of it’s citizens. It is the citizen’s responsibility to take care of themselves FREE from Government restraints.
But yet UP is DOWN.

My understanding is that Benghazi wasn’t even a consulate as reported by the news and Obama continues to call it.
Isn’t a Consulate a place where you can go to take care of US citizen issues such as marriage licenses, birth certificates, passports and the such?

Today is the Feast Day of St. Nicholas. A day millions of Christian children around the world will wake up to shoes filled with small gifts and candy. In some regions, the day includes elaborate festivities of symbolic rituals to honor and celebrate the goodness and generosity of a great man born centuries ago.
Who is St. Nicholas?
The St. Nicholas Center tells his story,
The true story of Santa Claus begins with Nicholas, who was born during the third century in the village of Patara. At the time the area was Greek and is now on the southern coast of Turkey. His wealthy parents, who raised him to be a devout Christian, died in an epidemic while Nicholas was still young. Obeying Jesus’ words to “sell what you own and give the money to the poor,” Nicholas used his whole inheritance to assist the needy, the sick, and the suffering. He dedicated his life to serving God and was made Bishop of Myra while still a young man. Bishop Nicholas became known throughout the land for his generosity to the those in need, his love for children, and his concern for sailors and ships.
Under the Roman Emperor Diocletian, who ruthlessly persecuted Christians, Bishop Nicholas suffered for his faith, was exiled and imprisoned. The prisons were so full of bishops, priests, and deacons, there was no room for the real criminals—murderers, thieves and robbers. After his release, Nicholas attended the Council of Nicaea in AD 325. He died December 6, AD 343 in Myra and was buried in his cathedral church, where a unique relic, called manna, formed in his grave. In Germany and Poland, boys dressed as bishops begged alms for the poor—and sometimes for themselves! Hundreds gathered at Seattle Center for a New Year’s Eve-style countdown to 12 a.m., when the legalization measure passed by voters last month took effect. When the clock struck, they cheered and sparked up in unison.
A few dozen people gathered on a sidewalk outside the north Seattle headquarters of the annual Hemp-fest celebration and did the same, offering joints to reporters and blowing smoke into television news cameras.
“I feel like a kid in a candy store!” shouted Hempfest volunteer Darby Hageman. “It’s all becoming real now!”
Washington and Colorado became the first states to vote to decriminalize and regulate the possession of an ounce or less of marijuana by adults over 21. Both measures call for setting up state licensing schemes for pot growers, processors and retail stores. Colorado’s law is set to take effect by Jan. 5.
Technically, Washington’s new marijuana law still forbids smoking pot in public, which remains punishable by a fine, like drinking in public. But pot fans wanted a party, and Seattle police weren’t about to write them any tickets.
In another sweeping change for Washington, Gov. Chris Gregoire on Wednesday signed into law a measure that legalizes same-sex marriage. The state joins several others that allow gay and lesbian couples to wed.
The mood was festive in Seattle as dozens of gay and lesbian couples got in line to pick up marriage licenses at the King County auditor’s office early Thursday.
King County and Thurston County announced they would open their auditors’ offices shortly after midnight Wednesday to accommodate those who wanted to be among the first to get their licenses.
Kelly Middleton and her partner Amanda Dollente got in line at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Hours later, as the line grew, volunteers distributed roses and a group of men and women serenaded the waiting line to the tune of “Going to the Chapel.”
Because the state has a three-day waiting period, the earliest that weddings can take place is Sunday.”

I just finished watching on TV a replay of the big celebration in Washington State over the legalization of marijuana and then came here and read more – also, gay marriage.
There is a deep haunting in the pit of my stomach, because it is pretty evident that the decadence in our land is gaining strength. I don’t see how anyone can be convinced that we are becoming a more spiritual and moral country.
We know that the Apostle Paul warned Timothy, “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.” (II Tim. 3:13)
