“Canada’s Oil Sands Are a Jobs Gusher”
“For all its soaring rhetoric, President Obama’s “jobs speech” last week didn’t demonstrate a lick of insight into why economies grow or how wealth is created. It was merely trademark Obamanomics: using government diktat to move money that’s over here, over there.
Having spent an hour the day before with Ron Liepert, the energy minister from the Canadian province of Alberta, I found it especially disturbing to hear nothing in the speech about reversing the administration’s anti-fossil-fuels agenda. Canada has recovered all the jobs it lost in the 2009 recession, and Alberta’s oil sands are no small part of that. The province is on track to become the world’s second-largest oil producer, after Saudi Arabia, within 10 years. Meanwhile Mr. Obama clings to his subsidies for solar panels and his religious faith in green jobs.
U.S. unemployment is high because capital is on strike. Short-term offers to coax investors into taking new risks aren’t going to cut it when they have been forewarned that the president intends to pay for it all by raising taxes in the out years. The market dropped over 300 points the day after Mr. Obama’s speech.
On the regulatory front the picture is even gloomier. Much of America’s vast untapped energy potential lies dormant because Mr. Obama’s regulatory watchdogs have spent the past three years throwing sand in the gears of the permitting process for exploration and exploitation on federal lands. Separately, TransCanada has been trying since September 2008 to get a permit to build the Keystone XL pipeline from Alberta to the Gulf Coast. The Environmental Protection Agency has so far blocked it.
TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline could mean 118,000 American jobs, if the U.S. government ever issues the permit.
A glimpse of what all this has cost the U.S. economy can be seen by looking north to Canada, where animal spirits have been unleashed in the energy sector. Canada’s close economic ties to the U.S. have traditionally meant that when the U.S. gets the sniffles, Canada gets swine flu. This time it’s been different. Part of the reason is that Canada’s housing market was not poisoned by a federal government push to put unqualified borrowers into homes they could not afford. After the 2008 collapse of the housing bubble in the U.S., the Canadian financial sector remained strong.
That alone was not enough to protect Canada from the effects of the U.S. recession. The manufacturing sector was hit hard, and in the first quarter of 2009 the economy contracted by an annualized 7.9%.
Yet Canada has outperformed the U.S. since then. In 2010, according to the International Monetary Fund, Canada grew at 3.2% versus 2.9% in the U.S. In 2011, the IMF estimates Canada will grow at 2.9%; unemployment is now 7.3%. The IMF’s U.S. growth forecast is 2.5% this year, and U.S. unemployment is 9.1%.
One explanation for Canada’s more robust growth is its strong commitment to energy, which has become more valuable in U.S. dollar terms under Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke’s inflationary policies. Alberta is now producing two million barrels per day but expects that number will grow to four to five million within a decade.”

If you’re thinking the Canadian advantage must be due to exchange rates, think again. The Canadian dollar has actually caught up to the U.S. dollar in recent years.
“These are not 60-cent dollars, but Canadian dollars more or less at par with the U.S. greenback,” Globe and Mail’s Michael Adams writes.
To add insult to injury, not only are Canadians comparatively better-off than Americans, they’re also more likely to be employed. The unemployment rate is 7.2 percent—and dropping—in Canada, while the U.S. is stuck with a stubbornly high rate of 8.2 percent.
Besides a strengthening currency and a better labor market, experts credit the particularly savage fallout from the financial crisis on the U.S. economy and housing market, which torpedoed home values and gutted household wealth. According to the report, real estate held by Canadians is worth more than $140,000 more on average and they have almost four times as much equity in their real estate investments.”

To Old Salt, RMinNC, eddie h., coldwarvet, and Dean M., and all of the other vets who read or/and post here, it overwhelms and humbles me when you share your war experiences and comments about military issues, as well as other topics. Actually it brings tears to my eyes, because we all owe so much to our military, regardless of whether or not they actually saw combat.
Having lived during the World War II, Korean, and Viet Nam eras, I am perhaps, more sensitive than some in the younger generation to the debt of gratitude we owe those who have made the ultimate sacrifice as well as to all others who served and are presently in the armed forces.
I know you all don’t feel special in any way and don’t feel that you should be given any special attention, but please for just this moment, and always, accept our sincere thanks.

Consequently, the Democrat National Committee does NOT have to pay a cent for all of this extravagant ‘campaign’ spending.

My answer for Romney? Call Obama’s bluff.
Romney should call a press conference and issue a challenge in front of the nation. He should agree to release more of his tax returns, only if Obama unseals his college records. Simple and straight-forward. Mitt should ask “What could possibly be so embarrassing in your college records from 29 years ago, that you are afraid to let America’s voters see it? If it’s THAT bad, maybe it’s something the voters ought to see.” Suddenly the tables are turned. Now Obama is on the defensive.
My bet is that Obama will never unseal his records because they contain information that could destroy his chances for re-election. Once this challenge is made public, my prediction is you’ll never hear about Mitt’s tax returns ever again.
Why are the college records, of a 51-year-old President of the United States, so important to keep secret? I think I know the answer.
If anyone should have questions about Obama’s record at Columbia University, it’s me. We both graduated (according to Obama) Columbia University, Class of ’83. We were both (according to Obama) Pre-Law and Political Science majors. And I thought I knew most everyone at Columbia. I certainly thought I’d heard of all of my fellow Political Science majors. But not Obama (or as he was known then- Barry Soetoro). I never met him. Never saw him. Never even heard of him. And none of the classmates that I knew at Columbia has ever met him, saw him, or heard of him.
But don’t take my word for it. The Wall Street Journal reported in 2008 that Fox News randomly called 400 of our Columbia classmates and never found one who had ever met Obama.
Now all of this mystery could be easily and instantly dismissed if Obama released his Columbia transcripts to the media. But even after serving as President for 3 1/2 years he refuses to unseal his college records. Shouldn’t the media be as relentless in pursuit of Obama’s records as Romney’s? Shouldn’t they be digging into Obama’s past–beyond what he has written about himself–with the same boundless enthusiasm as Mitt’s?

“There was a rather low-key confession made in the New York Times last week that deserves to be blared throughout this country so that every American understands what they are reading in the establishment’s ultra-controlled, government-managed “press” – and I use that last word loosely indeed.
The admission came in the form of a story by Jeremy Peters on the politics page of the Times July 16. I’ve been waiting for others to point it out, discuss it, debate it, express shock and exasperation over it. But I’ve waited for naught.
What this shocking story reveals is that even I – one of the kingpins of the new media and a refugee from the state-controlled spin machine – underestimated the utter and total corruption of the euphemistically called “mainstream press.”

“The quotations come back redacted, stripped of colorful metaphors, colloquial language and anything even mildly provocative.”

“Most reporters, desperate to pick the brains of the president’s top strategists, grudgingly agree. I remember my research quite some ago, that during the 60’s Ivy league schools began what was known as a “gentleman’s grade”, which granted C’s to any student that was either failing the course or simply a no show. This served 2 purposes. First, to insure the Ivy league student didn’t fail in order to avoid the student from being drafted into the military in Vietnam. Secondly, to maintain a “grade inflation” for the school itself.
If perhaps Obama camp release’s his grade’s alone, I am fairly confident it will show he accepted many “gentleman’s” C’s grades for various classes, which of course would be an embarrassment. However, and as you have correctly pointed out, his application and funding needs to also be evaluated as there is an extreme probability he accepted foreign student aid.
Grades and Application, both need to be requested. However, I doubt that happens.

We all know the grades alone would be an embarrassment to the Obama story but Trump was focusing in on just about everything that would deal with probable foreign citizenship…..college “entrance” forms, entering as what kind of citizen….and all past passports that should also contain such history. Good morning! I have a thought that might add a little emphasis upon the reasons for the college ENTRANCE records as opposed to Soetoro’s grades. The entrance records should reveal a great deal as to how he managed to gain entrance. That is to say such records would certainly verify if he used the name Soetoro at Occidental, and the Occidental records would also confirm if he received US money as a foreign student. While his academic acheivement is important I personally do not attach near as much importance to his academics as I do to the entrance facts.

With regard to Solyndra,we must keep in mind that they were ALL friends of Soetoro to begin with,and furnished considerable sums of money to the Soetoro campaign. So whether Solyndra became successful or failed it was immaterial, because the money given to them by Soetoro was really aimed at compensating the CEO of Solyndra.

In addition, do you remember when Obama stated at his recent college appearances, that his college loans took him over 10 years to pay off, and understands the difficulties today’s college students face with their loans as well? Of course we know that is a lie. What is really worse, is that the Media already knows of the connection financially with Harvard and Obama, yet said nothing.
They already knew, including the McCain campaign that al-Mansour associate Percy Sutton was raising money for Obama’s education, al-Mansour was the top financial advisor to mega-billionaire Prince Alwaleed (Alwalid) bin Talal of the Saudi royal family. And In 1987 Bill Ayers solicited Khalid Abdullah Tariq al-Mansour (a.k.a. Donald Warden) to raise money for Obama’s Harvard Law School education. This was public knowledge, and again, McCain camp said nothing, nor the media.
As for his most likely foreign student loans with Columbia and Occidental, they again, never questioned. In my opinion, when Obama claimed that he himself took out personal student loans and struggled to pay them back for his college years, the media and politicians should have jumped all over this clearly false statement. But they didn’t. Mitt’s team better get with it, least he will be taken down the same way the Clinton machine was.

Although I am aware my comment to you is not proof positive, It is a well accepted fact that Obama aka Barry Soetoro is still understood by Indonesians as a citizen of their country. The name Soebarkah is highly misunderstood on Ann’s Passport. It simply is a Muslim nickname in the Indonesian language which means, “Blessed by Allah”. Again, it is nothing more than a nickname, not a real name.
