Stuart Levine sentencing June 28, 2011, Rezko Blagojevich Obama crony, Levine among most valuable witnesses in 3 decades, Blagojevich arrest delayed

Stuart Levine, corruption buddy of Tony Rezko, Rod Blagojevich and Barack Obama is finally being sentenced on Thursday, June 28, 2012.

Honorable Amy J. St. Eve                    Courtroom 1241 (ASE)

1:05-cr-00691   USA v. Levine                          10:00   Sentencing

From the Chicago Tribune June 16, 2012.

“Prosecutors: Levine among ‘most valuable’ witnesses in 3 decades”

“Prosecutors called their key witness against former Gov. Rod Blagojevich and two top advisers “one of the most valuable cooperators” in three decades of public-corruption prosecutions in a late-Friday filing arguing for a light sentence.

Stuart Levine could have faced life in prison under federal sentencing guidelines but prosecutors agreed to recommend a sentence of 5 years and 7 months in exchange for Levine’s cooperation. Friday’s filing comes after U.S. District Judge Amy St. Eve, during a hearing in April, asked for a “lengthy recitation of Levine’s cooperation.”

Levine didn’t testify against Blagojevich, but prosecutors noted “the case against Blagojevich was made possible only by Levine’s cooperation.”

“The government not only used information provided initially by Levine in the case against Blagojevich, it was Levine’s decision to cooperate that set in motion the series of events that led directly to the government obtaining the evidence and witnesses it needed to prosecute Blagojevich,” prosecutors wrote.

Friday’s filing, in advance of Levine’s June 28 sentencing, recognizes both Levine’s cooperation and his extensive criminal history.

Levine testified against former Blagojevich fundraiser Antoin “Tony” Rezko, who is now in federal prison, and was the star witness against Springfield power broker, William Cellini, who is awaiting sentencing. During his testimony at Cellini’s trial, Levine described in detail the million-dollar bribes he tried to orchestrate and told of his extensive drug use and cocaine parties he attended.

“Levine’s cooperation has proven to be every bit as important as the government hoped it would be. As a result of (his) assistance, the government charged and convicted people of extremely serious crimes who otherwise would not have been caught.””,0,829553.story

Federal prosecutors have lauded Stuart Levine as a great, cooperative witness. Why then did they not prosecute Blagojevich first to protect the citizens of Illinois and then wait until after the 2008 election to arrest him?

Couple the value given to Levine by the prosecutors with the timeline. There is only one logical conclusion to come to. The prosecution of Rod Blagojevich was delayed to protect Barack Obama.

From Citizen Wells December 10, 2011.

“2006 is the pivotal turning point.

1. Blagojevich and his corruption buddies are in trouble.

2. Blagojevich, the presumptive presidential candidate, is out and Obama, the unknown, is in. So is the fix.

Rod Blagojevich was elected governor of Illinois in 2002.

From the Blagojevich Criminal Complaint.

“Since approximately 2003, the government has been investigating allegations
of illegal activity occurring in State of Illinois government as part of the administration of Governor ROD BLAGOJEVICH. As further detailed below, the investigation has developed evidence that: (a) beginning not later than in or about 2002, ROD BLAGOJEVICH has conspired with multiple individuals”
From the Washington Post December 22, 2008.

“The wide-ranging public corruption probe that led to the arrest of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich got its first big break when a grandmother of six walked into a breakfast meeting with shakedown artists wearing an FBI wire.
Pamela Meyer Davis had been trying to win approval from a state health planning board for an expansion of Edward Hospital, the facility she runs in a Chicago suburb, but she realized that the only way to prevail was to retain a politically connected construction company and a specific investment house. Instead of succumbing to those demands, she went to the FBI and U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald in late 2003 and agreed to secretly record conversations about the project.

Her tapes led investigators down a twisted path of corruption that over five years has ensnared a collection of behind-the-scenes figures in Illinois government, including Joseph Cari Jr., a former Democratic National Committee member, and disgraced businessman Antoin “Tony” Rezko.”

The following events leading up to 2006 are damning!

June 7, 2004: Stuart Levine, a longtime Republican reappointed to the powerful Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board, abruptly resigns on the eve of several important hospital expansion votes. The revelation is the first indication that the Blagojevich administration is under federal criminal investigation.

June 27, 2004: The Tribune discloses that an official for one hospital seeking permission to expand was wearing a federal bug during meetings in an effort to expose extortion attempts by Levine and others for contributions to Blagojevich.

July 2, 2004: Levine resigns from his seat on the board of the state Teachers’ Retirement System. It remains undisclosed that federal authorities had secretly taped Levine’s conversations.

May 9, 2005: Levine is indicted on corruption charges. Federal subpoenas are issued to numerous administration sources, including top Blagojevich fundraiser Antoin “Tony” Rezko

May 20, 2005: The governor’s office acknowledges to the Tribune that Rezko has an ongoing eight-year professional relationship with Patricia Blagojevich’s home-based real estate brokerage, River Realty Inc.

Sept 15, 2005: Prominent Democratic fundraiser Joseph Cari and a former lawyer for the state’s teacher’s pension board pleads guilty in an extortion scheme that steered state pension business to favored companies in exchange for campaign contributions to a high-ranking public official described in court documents only as “Public official A.”

Oct. 25, 2005: The Tribune discloses a federal grand jury investigation into the alleged political hiring practices of the Blagojevich administration, including the governor’s top hiring aide, Joseph Cini.

Aug. 5, 2006: The Tribune reports that Levine is cooperating with the federal investigation of state government.

Sept. 10, 2006: The Tribune reveals that the FBI is investigating allegations by a one-time Blagojevich family friend that she had concerns her state job may have come in return for a $1,500 personal check her husband wrote to one of Blagojevich’s children.

Sept. 17, 2006: The Tribune reports that the Blagojevich administration skirted state hiring rules to give jobs to at least 360 people whose applications were sent through back channels by the governor’s offices and politically connected officials.

Oct. 11, 2006: Blagojevich confidant and top fundraiser Rezko is indicted on federal charges he sought millions of dollars in kickbacks and campaign donations from firms seeking state business.

Oct. 27, 2006: Political insider Levine pleads guilty in a scheme to squeeze millions of dollars from firms seeking state business. In court papers, federal authorities spell out allegations that Rezko and another schemer, identified by sources as Blagojevich confidant and top fundraiser Christopher Kelly, were using their influence for corrupt purposes.

Oct. 27, 2006: The Tribune reveals that Blagojevich’s wife, Patricia, earned more than $113,000 in real estate commissions in 2006 through a woman with a no-bid state contract whose banker husband–a major Blagojevich fundraiser–has business pending before state regulators. Both the FBI and the Cook County state’s attorney’s office begin investigations.”

Next examine what else happens in 2006.

“Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich has always been rumored to be interested in higher office. A single entry in a campaign-finance report he filed this week could add fuel to the speculation.

Blagojevich paid $7,500 in December to one of the top Democratic political strategists in Iowa, where contacts are important for anyone with presidential aspirations.”

“In the Summer of 2006, then-U.S. Sen. Obama backed Blagojevich even though there were serious questions at the time about Blago’s hiring practices.

At the time, numerous state agencies had had records subpoenaed, with U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald telling authorities he was looking into “very serious allegations of endemic hiring fraud” with a “number of credible witnesses.”

In an interview with the Chicago Daily Herald in July 2006, then-Sen. Obama said, “I have not followed closely enough what’s been taking place in these investigations to comment on them. Obviously I’m concerned about reports that hiring practices at the state weren’t, at times, following appropriate procedures. How high up that went, the degree at which the governor was involved, is not something I’m going to speculate on.

“If I received information that made me believe that any Democrat had not been acting in the public interest, I’d be concerned,” Obama said.

That said, Mr. Obama said, “If the governor asks me to work on his behalf, I’ll be happy to do it.”

Apparently the governor did. At the Illinois State Fair in August 2006, Obama spoke on Blagojevich’s behalf.

“We’ve got a governor in Rod Blagojevich who has delivered consistently on behalf of the people of Illinois,” Obama told the crowd.

In January 2007, Blagojevich’s office reserved the Old State Capitol for Mr. Obama’s presidential announcement at Obama’s request.”

Instead of protecting the citizens of Illinois as he has touted, Patrick Fitzgerald prosecuted Rezko, a businessman, instead of Blagojevich, the governor of Illinois.

From Patrick Fitzgerald’s Government Sentencing Memorandum.

“Antoin Rezko, …recently received a sentence of 126 months’ imprisonment for corrupt activity that he engaged in directly with Blagojevich or with  lagojevich’s tacit approval. Yet, Rezko: (a) held no elected office of trust;”

By prosecuting Rezko first and not calling him as a witness, they kept him incarcerated with no ability to rat on Obama.

They delayed the arrest of Blagojevich until after the 2008 election.

The prosecution botched the first Blagojevich trial and did not call Rezko as a witness.

Counts 1,2 and 4, the ones with the oldest corruption activity and the strongest ties to Obama, were dropped. The alleged excuse was to streamline and simplify the case. Of course if Blagojevich had been arrested by 2007 that would not have happened and Obama would not have been elected.

The second Blagojevich trial also did not call Rezko as a witness. This added to the delays. Blagojevich has just been sentenced.

The day of Blagojevich’s sentencing, we learn that Tony Rezko has filed an appeal. A Blagojevich appeal is sure to follow.

The Blagojevich and Rezko appeal process will go late into or past the 2012 election cycle. Once again protecting Obama.

This is simple enough even for a fifth grader, maybe even a congressman to follow.”

    Hey All,

Just listening to the “pundits” on the F&F scandal is interesting.

Isn’t it interesting that we know everything about Pat Tillman’s death which was a terrible friendly fire accident, then we do about Brian Terry’s death?

And they are saying that going after Holder is “political”.

It’s only “political” in their sick minds. To the rest of us it is seeking the TRUTH.

This kind of crap really bothers me.

“The most transparent Administration in history”, my behind!!!

  8. Mr. Bill(ms. helga)

The Rubio conundrum – While sitting around and wondering why Romney at first said he was not going to vet Senator Marco Rubio of Florida and then the next day said he would, I came up with this theory. Florida is one of the most important states for the Repubs to win in the next election. Marco would get a large percentage of the Latino votes. NOW EVERYONE ON THIS SITE KNOWS HE IS NOT ELIGIBLE since his parents did not become naturalized until after his birth. The Republican plan would be for the Democrats to say he was not eligible due to these facts OR WOULD NOT. This could be a brilliant strategy on the Republican’s plan. If the Dems said anything they would be hanging themselves. Obama would immediately be found out and the Repubs would find a new VP candidate.

  9. TX US Senate debate tonight Cspan 9est…Ted Cruz (Yeah) vs David Dewhurst (boo) Hope its good….Cruz was 1992 US and National debate champion and the Tea Party darling in Texas!

Mr. Bill, interesting take…..I absolutely love Mr. Rubio and think he is and will be a fantastic conservative Statesman. All geneology aside, at least his parents came to US for a better life. They were legal residents at the time of Marco’s birth and became US citizens a few years later. Unlike the usurper’s parents, they believed in and lived the American dream. It is also obvious, that they raised their son with the same belief system!

Yes. They just don’t seem to care. Very disturbing.

The program got stopped now due to the Sandusly verdict. Wonder if that is fate or a sign? Time will tell.

  19. Sorry for typo. Sandusky.

  20. Philo-Publius

FNC interrupted Hannity’s interview of Rubio to report Sandusky was found guilty in the Penn State sex abuse case. It’s been almost an hour and they are still going strong. The other cable news networks are doing the same.

Compare that to Holder being found in Contempt…little reporting by most networks and then only for a matter of minutes. Prime example of what the Obama media wants us to think is important.

  21. Truthbetold11

Look for colonel allen west. For vp. Florida is big electoral college votes

  22. West would be really great, but he called DWS a vile woman. While true, that may not play well with females. I like John Bolton too. He would be great in a debate with Biden. I also like Huckabee, if he would be interested.

  23. DWS is a vile woman. I don’t think anyone should hold that against him. I did send a very harsh email to Allen West the other day, however, for not standing up on the NBC issue. I don’t think that will stop him from trying to get me to send money. I guess him calling the b@stards a bunch of commies just isn’t enough for me. Must be why my wife calls me an old crotchety. But yes, Allen West over Marco Rubio. West just seems so much more mature. And he was US Army Ranger, too.

I saw Gretta fawning all over Rubio the other night. I supported him ($$$). Now he makes me sick with his new book, “An American Son”. He absolutely can not keep the smirk off of his face.

As much as I like Bolton, he would be a disaster and so would Huckabee.

I sent money to Bachmann to help get her elected, too.

I am fed up with all of these jerks. What has happened to all of the “conservatives” that we put in power two years ago?

  24. It seems as though nothing is real anymore. Everytime sombody even opens his/her mouth a bizarre fantasy land sort of LIE emerges. I am beginning to believe that the average intelligence quotient of many of those among us is less than 30, because it seems as though people really DO THINK UP IS DOWN. They do not seem to have the ability to even reason or use simple logic anymore. They BELIEVE ANYTHING,and everything they hear,or read about without even thinking about it. I guess what I am saying is that PT Barnum had it right when he said “there is a SUCKER born every minute.”

  25. oldsast79, I have to agree with you,to a certain extent. You would think that most people would know when they are given a $#!+ sandwich. But, I have to forgive all the hard working soles that I know, that go out and work their tails off all day and don’t have time to really investigate what is going on. My nephew is a prime example. He drives a tow truck, and is on call 24/7. I would bet that he couldn’t tell me who the VP is, without really thinking. But he is a good man that just wants to provide for his family. I would say that he does not know that he is being lied to by the media most of the time. And that is where the real crime comes is. The network news is not delivering the truth and they should all have their broadcast licenses stripped, if and when our “ship of state” is set right. I am just thankful that here in Texas, that for the moment, the conservatives still outnumber those that are in it for a free ride.

  26. In Mr. Fitzgerald’s comments at the December 9th, 2008 press conference:

“I will say this. As you guys know — you guys are in the information business, of getting it and publishing it, and we’re in the information business of getting it and using it. About eight weeks ago, before we had the bug installed and before we had the wiretap up, we were contacted by the Tribune to comment, or confirm or deny, the story that they were going to run. Had they ran that story, we thought we’d never have the opportunity to install the bug or place the telephone tap.”

The Chicago Tribune had the story a month before the election.

In the Tribune’s “Statement of Principles” of 2007, the Tribune declared:

“The Tribune places great emphasis on the integrity of government and of the private institutions and individuals who serve and lead society. It acts as a watchdog on government, protecting citizen interests in quarters where citizens themselves might not otherwise be represented. The newspaper does this in the belief that the people cannot consent to be governed unless they have knowledge of, and faith in, the leaders and operations of government. Always, the people are sovereign.”

“The editorial page has four essential roles: to serve as a check on the power of government, to set an agenda for the Chicago region and the nation, to make persuasive arguments for the enactment of that agenda, and to inform and guide its readers so they can make better decisions.“,0,3930081.story

    Good morning Zach, et al.

  28. Tina
IMO, regardless of who the idiots at Fox push for VP. It won’t be (ineligible) Rubio, he has a corrupt friend problem in Fla.

  29. Good Morning All; Rebel Mope, it was Rod’s friend John Wyma who tipped off the Chicago Tribune’s John Chase, he also tipped off his good friend Rahm Emanuel…John Wyma testified in both trials of Rod Blagojevich, the first trial he said that he went to the feds of his own free will…In the second trial he admitted that he was threatened with indictment if he didn’t cooperate, he agreed but refused to wear a wire…IF you go back and listen to the wire tap recordings, it is obvious that Rahm knows he is being recorded….

I have to run….I will be back in a little while…

  30. Pat1789,

Lets hope you’re correct. As I have said for a couple of months pertaining to Rubio, it would only be based on the latino votes “attempted” to gain and a hope of securing Florida. However, the republican party has many times in the past pandered to the latino votes only for it to backfire on them, it doesn’t work.

Mitt cannot be supported if he chooses a non qualified V.P.

  31. A simple test to see if the Constitution will survive:

If Romney picks Rubio for Vp, then we know that there is no difference in either party, they are both out to destroy the basic founding document of this country.

If that happens, I will not vote for Romney either.

  32. On another note,

I was reading where its rumored Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan may be considered a possible candidate for vetting by/for Mitt Romney.

I believe Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker would be an energetic addition to Romney’s campaign if selected as his V.P. and would certainly capture Wisconsin as a Red State. I believe Florida will already be for Mitt without Rubio.

Lastly, I view a “secret’ behind the scenes vetting for a possible candidate for V.P. would be self made millionaire businessman Tennessee Senator Bob Corker…. Don’t let him out of your sights for a possible surprise V.P. selection. He would make a great V.P. and President.

The reason I rationalize this is because it was rumored that if the Republican candidate lost in 2012, Senator Bob Corker was to run in 2016 as the Republican candidate (against Hillary). So why not consider him now for V.P.?

    Just food for thought…

“[… “Barack Obama”] may have actually asserted executive privilege once before to protect Attorney General Eric Holder from congressional scrutiny, documents and congressional records obtained by The Daily Caller indicate.

—-> During Holder’s 2009 confirmation hearings, Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn pressed Holder for details on the role he played in helping get Puerto Rican terrorists — members of the violent Armed Forces for National Liberation, who set off 120 bombs throughout the U.S. killing at least six Americans and permanently harming others — clemency during the Bill Clinton administration.

—-> According to the Los Angeles Times, Holder drafted an “options memo” that allowed Clinton to grant commutations to the terrorists in the late 1990s when several high-ranking Department of Justice officials opposed the move. That options memo effectively facilitated clemency for those terrorists. Holder went against the DOJ’s Pardon Attorney Roger Adams’ “strong opposition to any clemency in several internal memos and a draft report recommending denial” and pushed to get the terrorists’ sentences commuted.

—-> Shortly after Clinton granted the terrorists clemency, then House oversight committee Chairman Dan Burton — still a member of the committee now — launched an investigation into what happened. The “options memo” Holder drafted never was made public, and Clinton asserted executive privilege over many of the materials and figures involved, including that memo.

—-> After Clinton left office, though, he waived all executive privilege assertions over “testimony of his former staff concerning these pardons [of Marc Rich and other controversial figures], or to other pardons and commutations he granted [including the FALN figures].”

—-> Though that memo itself is still protected by Clinton’s executive privilege and has not been made public, members of Clinton’s administration, including Holder — were allowed to talk about it and anything else to do with the pardons, commutations and grants of clemency after Clinton waived the executive privilege after leaving office.”

“Look, any time that isn’t spent discussing the abysmal state of the American economy is, in a sense, time wasted for Republicans in terms of the election. In this “age of infinite distraction”, the astounding truthiness of this 15 minute speech is stunning from single-sentence summation of Europe’s convulsions that “when the entitled elect themselves, the party accelerates, and the brutal hangover is inevitable” he reminds us that Californians, and indeed all Americans, should take note. This article discusses a fierce debate between the CIA and diplomats. Unfortunately, the article is correct in that the “drones” have for the most part won. Let’s be surprised; the increase in drone use under Obama has led to severe “blowback” from the Pakistanis.

As America’s relationship with Pakistan has unraveled over the past 18 months, an important debate has been going on within the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad over the proper scope of CIA covert actions and their effect on diplomatic interests.

The principals in this policy debate have been Cameron Munter, the U.S. ambassador since October 2010, and several CIA station chiefs who served with him. The technical issue was whether the ambassador, as chief of mission, had the authority to veto CIA operations he thought would harm long-term relations. Munter appears to have lost this fight.

Regarding “The Big Short” – When the British pound collapsed and millions LOST money in the devaluation GEORGE SOROS MADE A BILLION IN ONE DAY! When the 29 stock market crashed Joe Kennedy made millions selling short. THE MARKET IS A TWOWAY STREET. THE BIG DIFFERENCE you make it quicker in a short sale and it is based on pessimism.
I will be interested in seeing what Dylan Ratigan from MSNBC is going to do now. He just wrote a book called The Greedy Bastards and had his last show yesterday.

  42. William……………
You have put forward the names of a few people who would probably do a hell of a lot better n the VP position, than the present NINCOMPOOP. At least Scott Walker has shown the American people that he does “PUT HIS MONEY WHERE HIS MOUTH IS”,and knows exactly how to handle adversity as well.

  43. Maybe it is time to start thinking about Ron Paul becoming a SPECIAL PROSECUTOR to investigate the horrible stench coming from the BOWELS of our so called FEDERAL RESERVE.

  44. Mr.Bill……………..
Joe Kennedy made as MUCH,IF NOT MORE running ILLEGAL Canadian whisky into the United States, just like another of his contemporaries did……his name was AL CAPONE. These BASTARDS were ALL FRIENDS. The only difference is that one crook was SHANTY IRISH, and the other was A WOP. NO OFFENSE AGAINST EITHER….JUST FACT!

  45. Honor First…………
There are a number of examples of fine statesmen who have emerged from immigrant heritage. I in no way condemn them. Rather ….I have stated several times that I think that Marco would indeed make such a statesman……..but his parents while having been granted REFUGEE status they were NOT citizens at the time of Marco’s birth. Whatever this makes him is the product of our laws which still exist as such. It is unfortunate, but the founders done what they had to do.

  46. OldSalt,

Your comments are true, true, and true again…

    Well said my friend..

  47. OldSalt,

I would second your nomination of Ron Paul becoming the lead special investigator to expose and prosecute those in the Federal Reserve…

Unfortunately, those that have had such integrity and honor to do just that, such as JFK, were eliminated…..

  48. William…………..
Sadly JFK was like his one sibling a womaniser. This was to me his “viewable” weakness. A predecessor of his sufferred from the same sort of attractions. He was Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Otherwise I very much admired JFK’s tennacity, and his overall view of world events. Once again SADLY he was forced to accept the blame for the STUPIDITY of military people in the BUNGLED Bay of Pigs action. At the time I myself had been out of the military only about 6 years. Such an ignorant corps of JACKASSES should never even be put in charge of catching a dog. The same applies to the botched rescue operation perpetrated by a pack of “BUNGLE WORSTS” relating to the Iran hostages. Jimmy Carter was like the NINCOMPOOPS that he delegated the operation to. I was a sailor ,yet even I could clearly see the HOLES in the Bay of Pigs operation. I have seen the Bay of Pigs first hand and it is the LAST PLACE that any KNOWLEDGEABLE military tactition would consider for landing an invasion force. Hell they might as well have started out the gates of Guatanamo, at least they were ashore as a viable force, and would have at least been able to run back onto Gitmo if they started getting their asses kicked. In those days Gitmo had a number of 3″ 50s along the land border which could be utilised to help repel a pack of DRUNKEN CASTRO soldiers. A few PHOSPHOROUS rounds would have done a real number on them. Nice and stickey, just like napalm.

  49. …………almost as good as anti personell mortars. When in a pinch you IMPROVISE.

  50. We need to counter Fox News’ and particularly Sean Hannity’s unabashed man-crush on Marco Rubio. Despite well knowing he is not constitutionally eligible, Hannity and other talking heads who fancy themselves king makers continue to openly gun for Rubio to get the VP slot. Please contact the Romney campaign today and let them know Marco Rubio is not a natural born citizen. Tell them that whatever Latino vote could be gained by such a move millions more would be lost by patriots who believe the U.S. Constitution still remains the law of he land.

  51. Ther is also one well known Marine officer who agrees with the IMPROVISE philosophy……….that is Ollie North, and the way he handled the investigations of the missle launchers going South. In the end Admiral Poindexter ended up taking the heat, and RETIRED.
