“A federal judge says he’ll keep the names of jurors at the upcoming retrial of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich secret until 9 a.m. the day after proceedings end – brushing aside arguments from media groups that there’s a public interest in releasing them sooner.
In a six-page opinion, Judge James Zagel cites some reporters repeatedly knocking on the doors of jurors’ homes just hours after Blagojevich’s first trial ended, as well as a TV station helicopter hovering over a house where another panelist was staying.
“The conduct of some media after the names were released was improper and, in some cases, abusive,” Zagel wrote in an opinion posted late Monday.
Among the remedies he could employ to ward off journalists after the retrial, Zagel wrote, was passing out “No Trespassing” signs to jurors to put up on their doors or in their yards.
At the retrial, set to start April 20, Blagojevich faces charges including that he tried to sell or trade an appointment to President Barack Obama’s vacated U.S. Senate seat. At the first trial, jurors deadlocked on all but one count, convicting Blagojevich of lying to the FBI. The former governor denies all wrongdoing.
The Chicago Tribune and other media groups had asked Zagel to release the jurors’ names immediately after the retrial ends. Their attorney, James Klenk, said Tuesday that he was disappointed in Zagel’s ruling, adding he hadn’t yet discussed the possibility of an appeal with his clients.
At a recent hearing on the issue, Zagel used unusually tough language to chastise reporters. Zagel said that as a consequence of what he described as “harassment” by reporters at the first trial, otherwise qualified potential jurors may be leery about serving at the second trial “because they fear an onslaught of a rapacious media.””

I would welcome a Ron Paul candidacy, but NOT under the banner of the Republican Party, which is at least as corrupt as the Democratic Party.
Run Independent, Ron, and exemplify the truth — the US Government is systemically corrupt and beholden to Wall St. (Democrats) or Energy and Defense (Republican).

If he runs as an independent, he will be 10x more likely to get the liberal vote…I know a lot of my fellow dems like him and his ideas but still can’t get past the thought of voting for a republican. There are a LOT of dems who are beyond frustrated with the Obama administration and the party in general, and there is a lot of talk about the possibilty of forming a third party, or even a primary challenge to Obama.
Dr. Paul needs to clearly draw the distinction between himself and the other 2 parties-the contrast will be night and day. Running as an independant will free him of the baggage of both parties and as soon as people hear what this man has to say he will have this in the bag.
I posted this comment and the ones above at the previous thread…..they are mostly for the LURKERS who come here and don’t post…..hopefully they are not as narrow minded as some of you here…..

The great Dr. Ron Paul changed my life forever in 2008. I was your average, apathetic, uninvolved American. Now I contact my representatives regularly demanding accountability and respect for their constituents. I will never forget the first time I saw Dr. Paul in a debate. I remember jumping around and screaming because I was so blown away by everything he said and how much sense it all made. I was thinking I have never heard any politician talk like this with actual logic and the constitution in mind. The R3volution will never die!!!!
I am speaking for at least 50 people I personally know!! If you run you will not only get our votes, but we will put our lives on hold again to devote every free moment we have to campaigning for you. Thanks for everything !!!!

In the spirit of doing something different, understanding our enemy before we randomly poke about, and pushing a button that might actually work, consider this name:
There have been rumors swirling forever that she is the brains behind the dimwit Obamessiah. Even more so than was Rove Bush’s brain. And if not the brains, then most certainly THE conduit to that brain.
Now all this could be bunk and VJ may be nothing more than a family friend. But the rumors are so deep and the evidence while inconclusive is piling up.
NOBODY, not even the more excitable “right wing” media ever talks about her. It is almost as if she didn’t exist. Which may be OK, but suppose she were really important? Then who is watching her? Might not this qualify as an OH MY GOD!?
Rather than a majority of what passes for sane dialog on this blog, don’t you think this would be a more fruitful avenue to explore? Perhaps even a write-in or call-in campaign against the right and left media would not be rebuffed like the Birther topic(s).
We also ought to focus harder on getting His background investigated. Independent of and decoupled from his birth. Not that his birth circumstances are not important, but the rest of it is equally important. Perhaps if we crawled out from under the birther-only rock we would be taken more seriously?

I come from Scandinavia, and I would just say that Ron Paul is right on all the economic issues, including not supporting dictators, even democracies that cannot defend themselves. If he should not become the president, I really do hope he inspires an army of young Americans to restore freedom to your great country, who sadly have become infected by socialism. Unless Americans do this, there is no way Europe is going to pull themselves out of their socialist mess, where the most incompetent morons run the show. Everything is rigged against truly smart people, because the stupid and unproductive are subsidized, and huge public sectors rip off taxpayers. They all love Obama, he is one of them.

I am a 42 year old man residing in Illinois. And I have never voted. I feel if I vote for individuals who say one thing and do another, I would have a part in the mess we are in. I have been researching Ron for about 10 years. My good friend John made a { MONEY } video for the freedom campaign. I do believe that Ron Paul really does care about our country and its people. I am very loyal to my personal beliefs , and I believe if Ron Paul runs for Pres. I will finally get my chance to participate in one of our countries greatest freedoms { voting }.

Ron is the only valid “electable” choice. He already has momentum, there is no 100% sure way to say he won’t sell out at any price, especially if his life becomes the asking price. SO I am going to put my money on Ron this time, but I am going to fight like hell to get the debate rules and ballots changed to allow 3rd party candidates. If you wan’t to spend your energy wisely, instead of working on campaigns for people who blow you a good wind, work on campaigning to overhaul our electoral system. I don’t believe Ron is going to change, he only says the same thing no matter what. His message is the solution to the reason we are all scared for our country. We should embrace great political change only if it takes us toward the constitution, stop embracing ‘hope and change’ sugar coated lies. The hard truth is the solution, the hard job of work against the FED is the only way out. Ron is telling you the truth, Obama wanted your vote to get the globalist agenda secured.

I have followed Ron Paul very closely since 2008, I have watched just about every you tube or posted video posted. I am sick and tired of cable news and the Neocons acting as if he hasn’t a chance. I can only hope and pray that what this country is going through now has finally woke people up to Ron Paul’s message. I watch the news and follow politics avidly since the market crash, and I have not seen anyone as genuine, caring, and devoted to the American people as Ron Paul. God bless you sir and everything you stand for.
P.S. Please let me know you opinion of GLOBAL free trade. I honestly think it is an farce. I believe in free trade in America, but internationally it is a lose lose for Americans where there really is no free and fair trade between nations. Any help here?

I have been a supporter of yours since 2007 and purchased your book The Revolution: A Manifesto. You have given me hope when all has been lost. Being 23 years old I have many fears and its a shame that one of my biggest fears is what the government is going to do next. I already have a lot on my plate and it would remove that burden knowing that we have an amazing constitutionalist like yourself in office. Yes, the Federal Government IS America!
Some say the turning point was in 1871 (if I remember correctly) when the Federal Government was “incorporated”. Many of us feel that is a mere formality and a legal fiction/convenience and not something sinister. But be that as it may, the constitution and the basic form of government was inverted in that time frame.
Even worse, there are 150 years of Supreme Court decisions and activities that further build on that. Almost everything coming out of the USSC is somehow about the 14th amendment. True statement (look it up): They don’t even teach the constitution in universities any more – especially not for “constitutional specialists”. What they are taught is 150 years of USSC precedence. The “paper” is now – in every practical sense – basically worthless. The Constitution IS whatever the USSC says it is. Or, more succinctly, the USSC is the constitution.
Consider this: Since the constitution was (is?) a charter FROM the states whereby the Federal Government was given certain jobs to do and certain exclusions to be sure and not do, what business does ANY arm of the Federal Government have interpreting the constitution? Wouldn’t you think that it would be a committee of the states, or selected individuals, etc.?
The Federal Government (and The Great American Experiment) is SO cocked up, it boggles the mind how to fix it. That is one key reason some of us remain frustrated that so many keep grinding on their little playground hobby horses, when the “real game” is on a totally different playground and using REAL horses – really big ones and really fast ones.
There is only ONE way to fix America. At a minimum, repeal the 14th amendment and every USSC precedent made upon it. That is where to start. All else is pretty much dog paddling just upstream of Niagra Falls. You gotta get the water turned off.
Any idea how to do that?

Ron Paul is the only politician I know who wants to: balance the Federal budget & start to pay off the Federal debt through DRASTIC budget cuts NOW, return to a much smaller & more Constitutionally limited Federal government, audit & eventually end the Federal Reserve & have Congress return to COINING our money (gold/silver)… which is what the Constitution says it should do, PHASE OUT/OPT OUT of Social Security & Medicare, secure our borders, bring our troops home & close many bases around the world, end “foreign entanglements”, restore our liberties & end the Unconstitutional ObamaCare & Patriot Act. Unfortunately, Ron Paul may be too late to save the USA from economic collapse. But without him, the collapse will be much worse & last much longer. The longer we avoid the hard choices economically now, the worse it will be in the end. LET’S FACE REALITY NOW!!

There are several problems with this blog right now:
CW has repeatedly said or shown an inclination to ignore #1 and #2. As blog denizens we can keep hoping, but it’s not likely to happen. In the end, it is CW’s choice. It is his blog.

But even worse, consider this. I do not know the numbers, but I sense they are mind-boggling. Perhaps some of our lawyer friends who post here from time to time can give some credible estimates?
How much case law (say, volumes of books) has been pushed out the door of the USSC in the last 150 years. What percentage of it do you think is intimately tied up with the 14th amendment?
Some knowledgeable person once said something that is clearly untrue in the extreme, but you might be surprised at how close to the mark it is. “The USSC does not do ‘constitution’ anymore, all they do is ’14th amendment’.”

I gave Ron the last $3.50 I have off of my unemployment card. I don’t agree with government handouts, but I used to have a good job before the bankers engineered bubble burst leaving my family to starve. I never wanted to be here, but I was thankful for my unemployment, but that is now gone along with any and all jobs in Southern Illinois. I voted for Obama, just like many many Paul supporters. I will NEVER vote democrat or republican again. I WOULD rather throw my vote away on a third party or abstain, so I will.
Mr. Paul you get the first republican vote I have ever cast, and the last republican or democrat vote I will ever cast. (I might make an exception for Rand Paul) I just gave my last loaf of bread and my word to Ron. There is nothing left but hope now.

At first I had alot of reservations about Dr. Paul but now after reading his books and listening to his speeches he makes sense. I plan to contact my congressional representatives today in support of HB 459. Ron Paul is the person which believes in following the US Constitution. The “Fed” should be ended.

I heard that Clarence Thomas gave a speech to young people, I think this past weekend, at a university possibly here in VA, in which he encouraged everyone to learn the Constitution and American history. He said your very future depends on it! He also stood up for his wife’s involvement in the Tea Party.

The Texas Republican had to push through sustained applause to deliver his broadside against the U.S. government’s decades-long support of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, criticizing the billions of dollars in U.S. aid to Egypt.
“The people don’t like us propping up their dictators,” Mr. Paul said. “No more than we would like it if a foreign country propped up a dictator in our country.”
“I’m still against foreign aid. For everybody,” he said. “Foreign aid is taking money from the poor people of rich countries and giving it to the rich people of poor countries.”
The Texas congressman also took aim at the USA Patriot Act, which he said “is literally the destruction of the Fourth Amendment.” The law, passed in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, gives the government broad surveillance powers.
Ron Paul disciples came out in full force at the convention again this year. After winning CPAC’s presidential straw poll in 2010, he’s widely expected to take first place again this year.
“I’m glad to see the revolution is continuing,” Mr. Paul said, as the crowd chanted, “We love Ron Paul!”

Aussie, we might as well brace for the long haul, as we certainly know. I happened to have been on several blogs since JS left CW the last time. In every instance where she maintained a steady presence, she got so obnoxious and contentious that she was asked to leave or was banned. It’s the same old, same old. This is her modus operandi, regardless of the “cause” she espouses. Unfortunately this will continue at least for another year unless something is done to curb it.
