“The debate on the House floor comes as President Obama prepares to make a rare visit to Capitol Hill aimed at closing the deal, a move that reflects the do-or-die stakes.”
“The House kicked off what is expected to be a tense day of debate Saturday leading up to a final vote on legislation acting on President Obama’s call for a sweeping overhaul of the health care system.
The debate on the House floor comes as Obama prepares to make a rare visit to Capitol Hill aimed at closing the deal, a move that reflects the do-or-die stakes.
The historic House vote, planned for late Saturday, was expected to be tight and Democratic leaders hoped Obama’s late-morning visit would tip the balance in their favor.
In the opening moments of debate, Democrats hailed the legislation, which would extend insurance to tens of millions of Americans and enact dramatic changes to the country’s medical system, as an advance for the nation’s social fabric and a moral and economic imperative.
Republicans said it would be a government takeover of the health care system that would damage the economy and erode the doctor-patient relationship.
Late Friday, House Democrats cleared an abortion-related impasse blocking a vote and officials expressed optimism they had finally lined up the support needed to pass Obama’s signature issue.
“We expect it to come to a vote. We expect it to have 218 votes,” House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said Saturday.”
“With Democrats’ command of the necessary votes looking tenuous in the final hours, Obama threw the weight of his administration behind the effort to round up support. He and top administration officials worked the phones to pressure wavering lawmakers.
Rep. Jason Altmire, D-Pa., said he heard Friday from Obama, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Education Secretary Arne Duncan.
Their message: “This is a historic moment. You don’t want to end up with nothing,” said Altmire, who remained undecided.
Democratic leaders hoped to hold the vote Saturday evening, but Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said it could slip.
Democrats hold 258 seats in the House and can afford 40 defections and still wind up with 218, a majority if all lawmakers vote. But all 177 Republicans were expected to vote “no,” and Democratic leaders faced a series of complications trying to seal the needed votes for their complex and controversial legislation that would affect one-sixth of the economy and touch the lives of countless Americans.”
“Democrats have little room for error, with the prospect of the 2010 midterms looming large and a some of their own moderates already declaring their opposition.”

I caught something one of the members of the committee (his name escapes me) said yesterday that really brought it all home for me.
Speaking very “matter of factly” responding to questions from a rep from California (who was in favor of the bill passing) he said, “we have to do something if we’re gonna get this world government thing…”
No one even scoffed or flinched or gasped at his statement. He didn’t even try to cover it up, regroup or redirect.
SO, THEY ALL KNOW THIS IS THE GOAL OF THIS BILL. Dems and Repubs are complicit in the demise of the sovereignty of this country.
It is, and never was about healthcare for the uninsured people.

The “pink slips” WND have sent, the petitions, the fantastic Rally Michele Bachman held Thursday, The millions of letters and telephone calls, the inter net articles, Fox news discussions on the evils of this bill have all been put forth. For those of you who still they can calls, faxes, e-mails or what in a last horrah against this bill do so. At this stage, it may be our last resource is visualization and prayer. So my day is one is silence and focused meditation.

I would like to share my experience this morning with a husband and wife friends of mine.
I was siiting in my favorite coffee shop this morning writing the latest article and they
came in. They were in the process of calling their congressmen to inform them they are
definitlely against this health care bill. I wish that I had had my video camera with me.
It was beautiful.
These are hard working average Americans that care about this country.
They are also urging their friends and associates to speak out.
Another topic that came up was revisionist history and lies being taught in
public schools. This is a subject of great concern to me and will be revisited
often in the future.
Another point that was made was that there are many organizations out there,
many that are good, requesting money. There is nothing wrong with that.
However, the point that my friend made was that it costs nothing to contact
your congressmen and urge those around you to learn more and become more
involved.
Everyone: In the dedication of the USS New York, many of the speakers are talking about the resilience of America…how we may be thwarted, but we COME BACK!
Whatever happens in the Health Care debate or even passage of this obnoxious bill, America is resilient, and we will COME BACK!
We will hold those who BETRAY us accountable; we will succeed in our effort to make those who defy us pay for their misdeeds.
We shall overcome! Carry on Patriots!

Prairie, thanks for the link to that article. Coburn’s strategy is brilliant: force the bill to be read aloud during deliberations. It is far from simply a stalling tactic, it is crucial to actually air and bring to light what is in the bill. Reid, Pelosi, et al. simply don’t want the American people to know what’s in this bill.
Also, any amendments will also have to be read on the House floor. Brilliant, and don’t back down. I’m all in favor of forcing reading of this bill, page by page if need be.

If this piece of sh*t bill passes, even if recinded in 2010 or 2011by a new congress- Barry would have the power of veto.

SueK-you just reminded me of something. I forgot what you have but I remember reading long ago about bee therapy re: numbness. The people that had that particular disease(s) had to get bit by a bee everyday-think nanotherapy. The way they could tell the therapy worked is after a period of time the person could actually feel the sting.

I received this email from a friend who went to Washington D.C………
What an incredible second journey to D.C.!
Altogether, we had about 40 people from MO who traveled to D.C. (and some are still there!). We had 9 in our mini van and when we left on Wed., we had a delightful experience. Our mini van had signs on the back that said, “D.C. or Bust,” “Send Congress a Pink Slip,” and “Don’t Tell Obama What Comes After a Trillion.” We had a Southern Baptist Minister “chase us down” in his truck on the highway, and gave us a $50 donation. He said he couldn’t be with us in
person, but wanted to donate to our cause. What an unselfish act of generosity! We had plenty of honks and thumbs up on our 15 hour trip (one way).
There were about 60,000-100,000 people at the Rally. Reports from the news networks (including Conservative ones) said 10,000 or 20,000, but trust me, there were more than that! Our group got up by the media and I got on camera by one of the major news networks. We all chanted, “Can You Hear Us Now?” at Congressmen gawking at us from the porch of the Capitol.
Most if not all the Republican Congressmen (and a few Blue Dog Dems including Joe Wilson) came down the Capitol stairs at shortly after 12pm, giving their “press conference” to us all. We greeted their remarks with chants like, “Kill the Bill,” “USA, USA” etc…Missouri’s own Roy Blunt and Todd Akin (who I later talked to) spoke to the crowd. I thought it was really neat that some of the Congressmen came down and shook our hands, thanking us for being there.
Michele Bachmann, who encouraged us all to come in the first place, gave a passionate speech saying, “Welcome to your house!” She thanked us all for responding in droves to her plea to come to D.C., but told us NOT TO LET UP
on the phone Calls to the Blue Dog Demorats, as Pelosi is pushing for a vote on Sat. Mark Levin gave a great speech, saying to the media, “Are you getting this down, this is brilliant stuff!” Love Levin’s sarcasm and humor. The guy from
“Cheers” and Jon Voight (Angelina Jolie’s father) also gave super speeches.
The Congressmen encouraged us to go to the three Congressional buildings after the rally and “storm the halls” so to speak, meeting with our Representatives. Someone even said that we were all meeting in Pelosi’s office and ripping up all 1900 pages of the Healthcare Bill. I’m sure it was a PIECEFUL event! The rally went an hour or two, and it was amazing to see thousands of people gathering outside the Congressional buildings afterwards waiting to get in. They were chanting as they waited in lines that extended way down the streets.
An 80 year old priest was praying outside Pelosi’s office, and he, along with three others, got arrested for doing so. Since the priest was not in good health, an ambulance took him away. (Our group saw him being loaded into the ambulance)
I hear that most of the Congressmen slinked out the back door, obviously afraid to meet with thousands of their constituents. Who has the courage on Capitol Hill, and who has the cowardice?
I pray that our efforts did indeed make a difference! Some of our MO group got to meet with McCaskill and a Rep. from Carnahan’s office. McCaskill was meeting with some business men from MO about another issue, and tried to cut the questions/comments about the Healthcare Bill short. She’s still trying to “skirt the issues.”

N.Y. Rep. Louise Slaughter said “Thousands of protests showed up to threaten us into not voting in favor of this bill. If they expected us to run for cover or vote against this bill they are going to be disappointed. Hearing those extreme views only made most of us more confident that we are doing the right thing here today by approving this bill.”
Citizens traveled to Washington D. C. for the purpose of appealing to Congress that “We, the People” do NOT what this health care bill passed because it tromps upon freedoms guaranteed to us by the Constitution. It is appalling that Ms. Slaughter accuses these Patriotic Americans of threatening Congress when they are rightfully exercising their right according to the First Amendment……..

I still don’t have an MS diagnosis (they’re 90% sure, though) but once I do, you can bet that I’ll be looking at some alternative therapies.

The votes are not there yet, and quite possibly never. The struggle has never been as acute as today. One cannot negotiate healthcare reform that means signing up for an eventual and painful death. It can’t be done and everyone knows it.
There is a powerful anti-far left Dem movement afoot. Has been for several months, but mounting at an accelerated pace. With every vote that Pelosi secures, she loses in turn.
Pelosi et al. still don’t know they lost even if they win “the vote”. The insurgency will not end with “the vote”.
Keep up the resistance. The people are winning and they are terrified.

Ashamed to say Slaughter is my rep and I cannot believe her statements are so arroant and uninformed. She doesn’t reflect the people’s wishes and opinons here that I know. One of my friends is an aide in her office and she knows my opinion of her boss. I tell her all the time that I can’t believe she can work for this woman. Slaughter needs to be voted out as soon as possible. I think her age is starting to affect her ability to think rationally. Bye, Bye Louise next election if you choose to run again.

The way to defeat this bill is to have Republicans vote against the Stupak amendment that takes away public funding for abortions. Make the so called blue dog democrats vote for a final bill that has public funding for abortions. I think it would cause a defeat of the final bill!

I just called my rep.’s office. He said he can not say how he voted, or will vote, just look at his past voting record. As I do that, it looks like he will vote against the bill. I also said I plan on going to his office in the future to discuss other concerns, and I may have to work for the government myself to straighten things out. 🙂

I realize this sounds like a noble thing for Baby Bush and Laura to visit Ft. Hood, and may move some folks. But…last night I opened up a book I just rec’d titled “Muslim Mafia” – non-fiction.
I’m in shock at just how much the government knows and has known since 1992. They openly admit they don’t know what to do about it and thus have let it slide.
Our government is well aware of all of the goings on of the Muslim Brotherhood, including the infiltration of the military and our government. They do nothing. They don’t want to do anything. As far as I’m concerned they are complicit in these murders at Ft. Hood.
This group has mapped a very strategic plan to take over America, infiltrating every facet known to mankind. The weak link they’re abusing is our right to freedom of religion.
I urge everyone on this site to buy that book and read it. We must know how to defeat this movement and hold our government accountable.
The Democratic morons are still determined to ram their manure down the throat of every American. What they fail to understand is that it IS GOING TO BE RAMMED BACK, and when we are done ramming it back, many if not all of the Congress ional jacjasses are going to be experiencing severely stressed HEMMOROIDS.

the consensus of those in the field of virology that are following this are concerned, as well, about the Ukraine situation and the implications it may have for us here. That’s why I keep posting updates on it. It is NOT the H1N1 flu. It attacks a very specific area of the lungs and basically liquifies the tissue. Very similar to the 1918 Spanish pandemic.

An interesting exchange on Fox just now.
It showed Boehner and Rangle going at it earlier about a guarantee of inclusion of the Stupak amendment after the house vote. Rangle said he could not make a guarantee. SO – it is not a sure thing. Those dems need to just say NO.

I did not bother to read the FOX link but, let me tell you, the law in MA is clear. Civil rights extend to everyone regardless of sexual orientation. Thus, creating a hostile work environment by impugning the sexual orientation of a member of a protected class is illegal. No one has the right to proselytize in the workplace against the legal conduct of any member of a protected class, either. Massachusetts does not discriminate in marriage on the basis of sexual orientation. And the employer is liable for maintaining a non-hostile working environment.

OldSalt, we are here where the alleged harassment took place.
The gentleman was approached several times by the homosexual woman-she was talking about her ‘wedding.’
Finally when pressed, the guy said that he didn’t condone her lifestyle; that marriage was between one man and one woman.
That’s what happened. That’s his opinion…one that many share. There was no harassment here-the only harassment was the female trying to shove her lifestyle down someone else’s throat. If she was looking for a ‘congratulations on your wedding’ from him, she didn’t get it.
If the guy doesn’t condone homosexuality, that’s his business and nobody else’s. He did NOT harass her-all he did was to try to let her know he wasn’t interested in talking about it. Period.
It’s very much the same way with religion, or any other belief. People have their beliefs and they own them. For anyone else to try to impose their beliefs on someone else is just wrong.

sue k – realizing we got off on the wrong foot a couple of months back, i sincerely hope you are healing. if i may make a recommendation to help heal from such a trauma, if you have some arnica, draw a hot bath and put about 15 to 20 tablets in the water. then, soak for about 40 minutes. drink some warm milk (soy) w/honey and sleep like a baby. you’ll wake up tomorrow morning with little pain and much rest. was an herbalist in my former life and sware by arnica. it is a wonderful herb.

We can each buy a can of the competing brand (or store brand) of tuna, and send it along to her. Sorta like a Pepsi vs. Coke thing. The note could read ‘Here ya go, fish queen-this stuff stinks, too.’ Or something like that.
We could also send Bahney Fwank a ‘marijuana from seed starter kit’ since his boyfriend just got busted in Maine.

Something worth mentioning,
Webster Tarpley offered a word of caution on his program today. The Republican’s version of the healthcare bill is NO better than the Dems. He said we have to be in gridlock right now. NOTHING gets passed.
He said the Repubs are at war with tradition right now. He doesn’t believe they possess the conservative/constitutional values that are missing today. He said not to give them any leeway.
He was also surprised to see, at the recent rally in D.C., the only speakers were Repubs. He thought it was a noble effort and VERY necessary, but he would like to have seen a broader range of representation, ie., Constitutionalists, Libertarians, pro Clinton, Ron Paul, etc. He fears the tea partiers are being duped by Dick Armey for the purpose of Republicans.
I believe he may have a point. It’s one party with two heads. So, I’m giving you a heads up!

Listening to the debate, how can the majority of Americans be for and against the bill. Both sides are claiming the same thing. Something is wrong. They can’t even agree on poll numbers.

I predict if this health bill passes, there will be several states that really start pushing the 10th Amendment arguments, of states rights.
The Constitution does not give the Federal Government authority to do this. There will be several lawsuits emerge over the coming months.
You may even start to see states talking succession.
I predict that if it passes, there will be a TAX REVOLT!

Tarpley is accurate indeed. This supports our previous thesis that the war between the 2 factions (at the top) is mighty strong.
However having said that, the current administration has to be crushed. Right now all amunition has to be given to the opposing side.

I must disagree with this point……I watched only a little of a video……a senator showed the disastrous bill beside the Republican bill…….one 1990 pages and the rep, only 200 pages.

They’re able to reap huge profits in the form of patents. Don’t be fooled EVER by this claim. Which ultimately leads to higher medical costs in the form of new medications, new treatments, etc…

What you say may be true for a few (ie < 10) scientists. The vast, vast majority of biomedical research doesn't produce a product that could be patented.
I'm a scientist funded by the NIH. I make a good living, and I'm not complaining about my salary, but it's less than 6 figures, so I'm not rich. It's difficult to get this funding because so many are competing for it, and when one is funded it's generally just enough to do the research that was proposed.
