We have the freedom of speech in America…….but when somebody, or an entity invents blatant lies against someone with the intent of creating distrust in him/her by others is called “defamation of character”. Such activity can, and often does invite civil lawsuits. Unfortunately many judgements that are awarded are overturned by the appellate court. Occasionally one is upheld.
