The Typical Household, Now Worth a Third Less
Economic inequality in the United States has been receiving a lot of attention. But it’s not merely an issue of the rich getting richer. The typical American household has been getting poorer, too.
The inflation-adjusted net worth for the typical household was $87,992 in 2003. Ten years later, it was only $56,335, or a 36 percent decline, according to a study financed by the Russell Sage Foundation. Those are the figures for a household at the median point in the wealth distribution — the level at which there are an equal number of households whose worth is higher and lower. But during the same period, the net worth of wealthy households increased substantially.
The Russell Sage study also examined net worth at the 95th percentile. (For households at that level, 94 percent of the population had less wealth and 4 percent had more.) It found that for this well-do-do slice of the population, household net worth increased 14 percent over the same 10 years. Other research, by economists like Edward Wolff at New York University, has shown even greater gains in wealth for the richest 1 percent of households.
For households at the median level of net worth, much of the damage has occurred since the start of the last recession in 2007. Until then, net worth had been rising for the typical household, although at a slower pace than for households in higher wealth brackets. But much of the gain for many typical households came from the rising value of their homes. Exclude that housing wealth and the picture is worse: Median net worth began to decline even earlier.
“The housing bubble basically hid a trend of declining financial wealth at the median that began in 2001,” said Fabian T. Pfeffer, the University of Michigan professor who is lead author of the Russell Sage Foundation study.
The reasons for these declines are complex and controversial, but one point seems clear: When only a few people are winning and more than half the population is losing, surely something is amiss.

Here’s another, in a series of posts on this forum, about the Washington DC that exists behind the curtain. And it is not pretty.
Recently, the President’s intense fundraising schedule has been in the news. Given that his time is limited, Americans, and a surprisingly interested media, have begun to ask questions as to why he needs to attend so many fundraisers at the expense of nearly everything else?
Despite the White House claims, this is how it really works. The administration wants you to believe that the President’s travel itinerary is guided by a need to see Americans, up close and personal, all across the country, and that the fundraisers are just additional add-ons to these “I’m here for you” trips.
Here’s the reality. The fundraisers ARE THE REASONS for the trips. In order to ensure that we, the tax-payers, pay for these trips, the White House travel office will find a factory or college for the President to visit (near the fundraiser site), when the real purpose of the trip is only the fundraiser. If the “factory visit” wasn’t added to the schedule then the political group holding the fundraiser would have to pick up the expensive tab for the President’s travel.
The “factory visit” and subsequent photo-op is a ruse to bill the tax-payers for an “official-visit” when the real purpose is to fill political-party coffers.
Here’s the bottom-line, your hard earned tax-dollars are being used to subsidize wealthy political groups who may, or may not, share your political leanings. And, to be clear, (for the “blame Bush” crowd), this has been happening for decades, regardless of the political party in power.
Sunshine is the best disinfectant and the Washington DC cesspool will never be drained until the American people are informed about what’s really going on. As Clint Eastwood’s character William Munny said in the movie “Unforgiven”, “We all got it coming, kid.” And, he was right. All of us have let this go on for too long, but it’s never too late to turn the car around. Today is your day to grab the steering wheel and take your country back.

Congressman at border: ‘Obama begging to be impeached’
….“For all I know, Obama is preparing to process five million illegal immigrant kids and teenagers into the United States,” Stockman said upon observing border operations near McAllen, Texas.
“He wants us to impeach him now,” Stockman theorized, “before the midterm election because his senior advisors believe that is the only chance the Democratic Party has to avoid a major electoral defeat. Evidently Obama believes impeachment could motivate the Democratic Party base to come out and vote.”
Accompanied by a WND film crew, Stockman began the evening by stopping at a massive Department of Homeland Security detention facility a mile or two north of the Mexican border, only to be encountered by seven or eight armed Border Patrol agents who approached Stockman and WND for questioning.
Though polite, a Border Patrol supervisor speaking from behind the chain-link fence that surrounded the facility refused to allow Stockman to tour the facility.
Through the chain-linked fence, the WND film crew took video of an active hanger-like open building cooled by two massive fans in which teenage illegal immigrants were being searched for concealed weapons as they were being processed into the detention facility.
Within minutes, as Stockman began asking questions of the Border Patrol supervisor, the hanger-like intake facility was shut down and emptied of illegal immigrant teenagers being processed by more than a dozen Border Patrol agents.
“We release all detainees under 14 years of age without taking any biometric identification, including no fingerprints,” the Border Patrol agent explained to Stockman. “We are prevented by law from taking fingerprints or other biometric information on these kids.”
The Border Patrol supervisor could not identify for Stockman the law in question.
“Then how do you know who these children under 14 years old are?” Stockman asked. “How do you know if you are releasing these kids to people who are truly family members in the United States or to pedophiles or other criminals posing as family members?”
“We only know who these children are by what they tell us,” the Border Patrol supervisor admitted. “Truthfully, we don’t really have any idea who they might be or where they came from other than what we can observe from questioning them. You’re right. If they give us false information, we have no way to know it or to follow it up without biometrics.”
Stockman asked what information the Border Patrol has on the people in the United States who claim to be relatives.
“That’s not what our department handles,” the Border Patrol supervisor again admitted.
Back in the vehicle, frustrated at seeing the facility going into rapid shutdown mode once he and the WND film crew set up to film, Stockman expanded on the impeachment theme.
Stockman observed that rather than begin impeachment proceedings now, what the House of Representatives should do is to take away money from the Obama administration.
“The only way we’re going to stop Obama from opening the border is to take away the money he needs to operate,” Stockman concluded. “What we should do is shut down the White House.”

Troop leader: Customs and Border agent held Boy Scout at gunpoint
A Boy Scout troop from the nation’s heartland is demanding answers and a U.S. senator is expressing outrage after a group of scouts was detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents, with one child allegedly held at gunpoint.
Jim Fox, the leader of the Mid-Iowa Boy Scout Troop 111, said the incident occurred earlier this month at a checkpoint along the Alaska – Canada border. The scouts and their leaders were on a 21-day trek from Iowa to Alaska – a trip that had been three years in the planning.

As their vans were moving through a checkpoint into the United States, one of the scouts snapped a photograph. Agents stopped the van and ordered all the passengers to get out. They told the underage photographer that he had committed a federal crime. It was unclear which agency with the Department of Homeland Security’s CBP agency was involved in the incident.
“The agent immediately confiscated his camera, informed him he would be arrested, fined possibly $10,000 and ten years in prison,” Fox told Des Moines television station KCCI.
During the search, one of the scouts tried to retrieve a bag from the roof carrier. When he turned around, Fox said an agent had a loaded pistol pointed at the child.
“He heard a snap of the holster, turns around, and here’s this agent, both hands on a loaded pistol, pointing at the young man’s head,” Fox told the television station.
The scoutmaster wrote a detailed account of the incident on his Facebook page. He said he tried to watch the agents search the van but was ordered to return to his vehicle. An agent followed him and told the youngsters “that the next one to leave the van would be handcuffed and detained.”
“The agent in charge informed me of the potential charges against (the) scout and informed me it is a violation of federal law for any American to take a picture of a federal agent or any federal building,” Fox wrote.
Fox said he and another member of the troop were interrogated by agents – forced to answer questions about their background.
They also wanted to know why the Boy Scouts were hauling “excessive amounts of lighters, matches and knives,” Fox said. After a lengthy delay, the Scouts were released without any charges being filed.
“The boys were unnecessarily frightened and intimidated,” Fox wrote. “When do we Americans decide enough is enough? The TSA and border guards are a valuable asset to the safety of this country, but to have such Gestapo tactics against a teenage scout is uncalled for.”
Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, agrees.
“It’s outrageous that a border patrol agent would point a gun at a boy scout just for taking a picture,” he told the television station. “It just doesn’t make sense.”
The senator’s office said they are looking into the matter.
Robert Hooper, the scout executive for the Mid-Iowa Council of the BSA, told me they, too, are upset and disturbed by the allegations.
“The guys were in scout uniforms,” he said. “I would like to know what caused this to happen. It does sound pretty extreme.”
Indeed, it does. It’s not like they were attempting to cross into the United States illegally.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said they’ve had a chance to investigate – and they can’t find anything out of the ordinary.
“CBP takes any allegations of wrongdoing very seriously,” read their official statement. “CBP’s review of this group’s inspection, including video footage review indicates that our officer did not un-holster or handle his weapon as stated in the allegation. The review revealed nothing out of the ordinary. We have reached out to the Boy Scout troop for additional information in reference to the allegation. The video footage has been referred to CBP Internal Affairs for further review.”
So, what we have here is an old-fashioned case of he said, he said – or to be more accurate – the Boys Scouts said, the feds said.
In cases like this, the quickest way to determine who is being truthful is to look at the video. So I emailed U.S. Customs and Border Protection and officially requested a copy of the video.
My request was denied.
I also asked for a copy of the statute that criminalizes Photography 101. I’ve yet to receive a reply.
Fox is still fired up over how his scouts were treated – and I can’t say I blame him.
“This was an illegal search and intimidation of Americans returning to their home country,” he said.
So let’s review, good readers.
While hordes of illegal immigrants are stampeding across our southern border unimpeded, federal agents along our northern border detained and harassed a group of law-abiding American Boy Scouts.

The days for impeachment have long passed AT THIS POINT. Stockman, I think, has it exactly right. Obama is behaving outrageously bad now in order to get impeachment started and thus smoke the Dems out of their nests to vote in Nov. This is one time when I agree with Boehner, but maybe not for the same reasons. Furthermore, if Obama is pushing for his impeachment – BEWARE. Don’t give him what he wants, at least, not now.

This is as bad as some other countries, e.g., Saudi Arabia. Some good friends of mine visited their son who was working in Saudi at the time. They were out in the desert driving around sightseeing, when a policeman came up, seized the camera, and took the man and his son to headquarters for interrogation, leaving the women sitting in the car out in the boondocks. They still to this day do not know what it was they were photoing that brought the police. Of course, all film was confiscated but they themselves were released. It is hard to believe that we are coming to that. Well, I guess not, considering all of the other stuff going on.

In such a way, every part of the body observes the fast.
Therefore, fasting is not merely physical, but is rather the total commitment of the person’s body and soul to the spirit of the fast. Ramadan is a time to practice self-restraint; a time to cleanse the body and soul from impurities and re-focus one’s self on the worship of God.

Bob, isn’t it scary that people in high places like Eleanor Holmes Norton are so ignorant of the functions of Congress? Oversight of the Executive Branch is one of them. Stupid is as stupid does. He was held for 48 hours,and the rental car was confiscated. Three CIVIL lawsuits are now pending against the police Department in behalf of J&J, the car rental agency,and the salesman……….I believe that it is in the amount $50,000,000.00. and includes punitive damages as well as compensatory damages.The sales person worked for Johnson and Johnson. He was subsequently fired from his position…..he did nothing agaist the law. He allegedly plans to sue J&J for unjust dismissal. The police also confiscated lis sample case,of J&J products.

Israeli Security sources say that Hamas had a plan to attack kibbutzim near the Hamas tunnel exits this coming Rosh Hashanah in a coordinated attack with an invasion force of over 200 terrorists and an objective to kill or kidnap as many Israelis as possible.
The information comes from captured prisoners who have constructed this most horrifying picture. Security sources say that Hamas plan was “lowering the State of Israel to its knees.” Prime Minster Netanyahu was reported by Israeli newspaper Maariv, as saying the goal was to use dozens of Hamas tunnels simultaneously. Tunnels have been found and dug under many kibbutzim that surround Gaza. One tunnel was even found to have its exit right next to the entrance to the dining hall of a Kibbutz.
Maariv’s sources in Israeli security confirmed Hamas had a plan to attack kibbutzim near the tunnel exits this coming Rosh Hashanah with an invasion force of over 200 terrorists. The plan was to launch the 200 terrorists at once, through dozens of tunnels, across six towns in the western Negev. In most cases the tunnel exited into the hearts of those Israeli communities. The coordinated attack would occupy the whole area and kill and/or kidnap as many Israeli civilians as possible, depending on circumstances. Abducted Israelis would be transferred via the tunnels to the Gaza Strip.

Now would be a very opportune time to invest in large properties having lots of CAVES. Before long Americans will pay top dollar to rent even a SMALL one. Many even have crystal clear running water!,which makes GREAT COFFEE! They stay about 55 degrees the year round so heating one shouldn’t be too difficult. Remodeling might only require a little skill with dynamite.(room addition). Making a front door needs only to be a large roll down garage type door,with a small door in it.For security you might consider a large size drop type gate made of iron bars.(a few old slammer doors welded end to end might be the ticket.)Adding a bathroom might be a problem,so either a prairie privvy,or a Porta Potty would probably have to suffice. Just keep a lot of old newspapers,and old REARS AND SAWBUCK catalogs handy. Ventilation isn’t usually a problem. Such domiciles could return 500%,on your investment. har har
……..if you are willing to add a vending machine to each cave filled with as many variations of POT,you would have a powerful incentive to attract customers. It will soon be legal in ALL states,and all your tennants can stay stoned 24/7.

You are right! There is a lot of evidence which has begun to surface of late that a whole lot of local,county,and state law enforcement bodies are in fact IN BED with the Soetoro Club. We are also seeing our LOCAL YOKULS act like NAZI STORM TROOPERS while making arrests. A few months back a squad car carrying a couple of the GOONS stopped a woman with a 4 year old in the rear seat. The driver was seen talking on her cell phone.They ordered the driver out of the vehicle (she complied,and the other goon opened the rear door and yanked the toddler out of the vehicle, and literally dragged the screaming toddler to a squad car,and roughly put the child in the vehicle and closed the door. He returned to the child’s mother who was now screaming herself, and forced her to the ground face in the dirt,and put cuffs on her. There was absolutely no reason to justify such behavior of the police, and it was all captured by a bystander and he later provided it to the county prosecutor. There is action against both officers now pending. The child was taken to the hospital by a friend of the driver,and it was determined that she had some flesh injuries to her shoulder muscles and joint. I am praying the both of the BASTARDS are at least FIRED. There is absolutely NO JUSTIFICATION EVER for rough housing a 4 year old child. Hopefully the woman’s husband will begin civil action against the local A$$HOLE club, BIG TIME……they have something coming!

person known as “The One.”
He emerged from the vapors with a message that had no meaning; but He

with hope and Change. Go, therefore, and proclaim throughout the

Then he said, “I shall penalize employers who ship jobs overseas.”
And the people said, “Where’s my rebate check?”
Then “The One” said, “I shall bankrupt the coal industry and
electricity rates will skyrocket!” And the people said, “Coal is
dirty, coal is evil, no more coal! But we don’t care for that part
about higher electric rates.” So “The One” said, Not to worry. If
your rebate isn’t enough to cover your expenses, we shall bail you out.
Just sign up with the ACORN and you troubles are over!”
Then He said, “Illegal immigrants feel scorned and slighted. Let’s
grant them amnesty, Social Security, free education, free lunches,
free medical care, bi-lingual signs and guaranteed housing…” And
the people said, “Hallelujah!” and they made him king!
And so it came to pass that employers, facing spiraling costs and
ever-higher taxes, raised their prices and laid off workers. Others
simply gave up and went out of business and the economy sank like unto
a rock dropped from a cliff.
The banking industry was destroyed. Manufacturing slowed to a
crawl. And more of the people were without a means of support.
Then “The One” said, “I am the “the One”- The Messiah – and I’m here
to save you! We shall just print more money so everyone will have
enough!” But our foreign trading partners said unto Him. “Wait a
minute. Your dollar is not worth a pile of camel dung! You will have
to pay more… And “The One” said, “Wait a minute. That is
unfair!!” And the world said, “Neither are these other idiotic
programs you have embraced. Lo, you have become a Socialist state and
a second-rate power. Now you shall play by our rules!”
And the people cried out, “Alas, alas!! What have we done?” But yea
verily, it was too late. The people set upon The One and spat upon
him and stoned him, and his name was dung. And the once mighty nation
was no more; and the once proud people were without sustenance or
shelter or hope. And the Change “The One” had given them was as like
unto a poison that had destroyed them and like a whirlwind that
consumed all that they had built.
And the people beat their chests in despair and cried out in anguish,
“give us back our nation and our pride and our hope!!” But it was too
late, and their homeland was no more.
You may think this a fairy tale, but it’s not. It’s happening RIGHT NOW

Fact is the lady who had her arms outstretched looked an awful lot like the picture of the lady on the pancake mix box. Maybe that is the current driver of the Escalade.
I am thinking about taking a drive past our local food bank to see if the Escalade is parked nearby. I’m betting it will be! She usually has an entourage of at least 10 kids with her,and when they emerge from the foodbank they are each carrying a bag of groceries……200 lbs of groceries all for FREE, the kids will get 10 lbs and mama will consume the rest.
It wouldnot surprise me if one day I see her arrive in a 5 ton closed van with a 3000 lb forklift supported in the rear……….to lift her into the passenger side of the cab, and to place pallet loads of food in the box. As they drive away she will be singing “WE FINALLY GOT A PIECE OF THE PIIIIIEEEEEE”.
