Easter March 31, 2013, Resurrection of Jesus Christ, Shroud of Turin, Luke 24:1-53, Strips of linen lying by themselves

“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.”…Jesus, John 8:32

In case you are still a doubting Thomas, the Shroud of Turin evidence confirms the passage from Luke:

“Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves”

Luke 24:1-53

“Jesus Has Risen

24 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Manmust be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” Then they remembered his words.

When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. 11 But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. 12 Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.

On the Road to Emmaus

13 Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles[a] from Jerusalem. 14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; 16 but they were kept from recognizing him.

17 He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”

They stood still, their faces downcast. 18 One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”

19 “What things?” he asked.

“About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. 20 The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; 21 but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place.22 In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning23 but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. 24 Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.”

25 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?”27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. 29 But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.

30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”

33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34 and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” 35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.

Jesus Appears to the Disciples

36 While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”

37 They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. 38 He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”

40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. 41 And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate it in their presence.

44 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”

45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them,“This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,47 and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

The Ascension of Jesus

50 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. 52 Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. 53 And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.”

    God bless.

  2. Happy Easter Everyone!

  3. Mr. Bill(ms. helga)

Thank you CW and Zach. I too wish for everyone here and every where a most Blessed Easter.

  4. Good morning CW, Zack et al.,

    Happy Easter to all….. 🙂

AP Propaganda again? Article headlines: “As more Republicans give in to Obama’s health Care plan..”?

I don’t know of a single Republican that has come out in public and “Agreed” with Obamacare? Does anyone? Perhaps I missed it.

On another note, looking at North Korea photos in the news, I wonder how all those Generals and other officers receive those medals they wear? For what?

  5. NBC_Vic_Hern

Gods Blessings to all here at CW for this Easter and always.

    More of Judge Roy Moore

  6. Has anyone heard of this? True?

“WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Justice Antonin Scalia dropped a bombshell on the Supreme Court today, announcing his decision to resign from the Court “effective immediately” and leave the United States forever.

Calling this week “by far the worst week of my life,” Justice Scalia lashed out at his fellow-Justices and the nation, saying, “I don’t want to live in a sick, sick country that thinks the way this country apparently thinks.”

Justice Scalia said that he had considered fleeing to Canada, “but they not only have gay marriage but also national health care, which is almost as evil.”

He said the fact that nations around the world recognizing same-sex marriage are “falling like deviant dominoes” would not deter him from leaving the United States: “There are plenty of other countries that still feel the way I do. I’ll move to Iran if I have to.”

Throwing off his robe in a dramatic gesture, Justice Scalia reserved his harshest parting shot for his fellow-Justices, screaming, “Damn you! Damn each and every one of you to hell! You call yourself judges? That’s a good one. You’re nothing but animals!”

Breathing heavily after his tirade, he turned to Justice Clarence Thomas and said, “Except you, Clarence. Are you coming with me?”

Justice Thomas said nothing in reply

  7. citizenwells

My take on Scalia is that he was just venting.
    Not sure.

  8. William @ 9:24,

Goodness gracious! Even if he was only venting, it definately shows where the rest stand on gay marriage. It’s looking bad….

How did the opinion of the country change so quickly? Scary!

  9. God Bless all. Have a wonderful Easter.

  10. Honestly? I don’t think the opinion of the country has changed. I think that most who tweet or go on facebook are young females. And the gay agenda seems to be a hot button issue for them. I KNOW! I have 4 daughters. And from what they tell me, they are contually being called bigots by their peers for their traditional views. It’s getting sickening.

  11. I need to calm down. This is a wonderful day! I am celebrating the ressurection of Jesus Christ. And I appreciate your article, CW.

  12. SueQ,

I agree with you. The U.S. is made up of over 76% that consider themselves Christians and the real non-biased polls show that the vast majority of the public is not in favor of gay marriage, including the highly liberal State California. Only the bias news continue to report that the majority of citizens support it, which is not true.

It is for this reason they want the Supreme Court to make it legal, they know they can’t do it any other way. Like you, I am concerned with Justice Scalia as it sends a signal to me that the majority of the court have abandoned their duties to play politics with the public.

  13. Air Force Brat!

It appears the Borowitz piece may well be satire. See the FR link below, especially Comments #3, 5, 8 and 12:

  14. Air Force Brat!

Another of the FR commenters pointed out the proximity of April Fool’s Day, possibly as a reminder to guard against automatically believing everything that appears on the Internet.

  15. A Blessed Easter to CW and all friends here!

CW, thanks for posting those wonderful scripture passages which especially thrilled my heart today. This blog is the first I go to (out of two, or so) every morning, and to begin by reading Bible is the best there could be.
The story of the disciples on the road to Emmaus is one of my favorites and always brings tears. “He is risen; He is risen indeed!”

The next two weeks are extremely busy for me work wise helping people meet their IRS obligations.

Carl Gallups and Mike Zullo on CPAC meetings:

Carl Gallups and Mike Zullo on Allen West:

  17. I feel the same way Justice Scalia feels…..I’m damn sick and tired of the homosexuals ( the 5%) telling the 95% what to do and not do….

It’s a disgrace the Supreme Court has taken a week listening to these sick people in the first place.

It’s a good thing Putin of Russia isn’t running this country…he has no love for gay people…..all the homo’s would be looking for another country to infect, or would be occupying a gulage in Siberia somewhere.

All the LGBT people should have been in church this morning thanking God that they live in America, but something tells me they weren’t….

  18. William — The Borowitz Report in the New Yorker is satire. It is evil, making fun of Justice Scalia, sensing what he truly feels.

The sodomite thing is very incidious. If you haven’t read The Harbinger by Messianic Jewish Rabbi Jonathan Cahn or seen the video, it says a lot concerning God’s judgment on this nation for turning away from God. Promoting immorality is one of the defiant ways to turn away from God.

Rabbi Avraham Twerski points out that as long as a nation’s laws are moral, there is room for repentance. But when the laws are made corrupt, then God’s judgment must descend.

At the time of Noah and the time of Sodom, the people corrupted their laws. That is why they were exterminated by Divine Judgment. Same with the Canaanites Israel was sent to exterminate.

The Borowitz satire, intended to make fun of an honorable judge, will bring dishonor to the writer and the magazine that published it. God will not be mocked, and that article and person is trying to mock God by dishonoring a righteous man.

  19. Could this be the legal case everyone has been waiting for?

Newly elected state chief justice has expressed doubt about qualification

Many cases challenging Barack Obama’s presidential eligibility have come and gone, but now an appeal has been filed with a state Supreme Court led by a newly elected chief justice who has expressed doubt about Obama’s qualification for office.
Roy Moore was elected chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court last November, a decade after he defied a federal order to remove a Ten Commandments monument from the state Supreme Court building.
Now, 2012 Constitution Party presidential nominee Virgil Goode and Alabama Republican Party leader Hugh McInnish are asking the state’s highest court to force Secretary of State Beth Chapman to verify that all candidates on the state’s 2012 ballot were eligible to serve.
Attorney Larry Klayman, founder of the Washington, D.C.-watch dog Judicial Watch and now head of Freedom Watch, filed the appeal Tuesday with the Alabama Supreme Court, asking for oral arguments.
“We are hopeful that Chief Justice Moore and the rest of the jurists on the Alabama Supreme Court will follow the law,” Klayman told WND.

Go to THE STEADY DRIP website for the full article…..here on CW we have all expressed a hope that a case would get into Judge Moore’s cuort….now it has….

  20. Glorious Easter to all.
The battle to save our country continues.

    Muslim Brotherhood President

  21. This is what I was going to post this morning…..then I got distracted by the Scalia stuff…….and then I went to church……

I have often pictured in my mind the scene of the empty tomb, and when I
think about it……….the two angels……….one at where His head was, and the other at where His feet were……….I am reminded of the Ark of the Covenant…. with the 2 Cherubim. For all those years, it seems to me like the Jews were carrying around a casket(!) that clearly pointed towards our Messiah’s death and resurrection. No wonder God demanded that it was to be treated with utmost respect.

These are my thoughts only, and many may disagree with my interpretation. That’s OK. I could be wrong. Anyway……

Enjoy this day! Though it may not be THE day (historically speaking) that Christ was resurrected, it is nonetheless the day most celebrate it.

Just like many disagree about the Sabbath day, I think God invites us to celebrate His Son’s resurrection EVERYDAY!

    PS, Dean M,

I think you are right that the article was satire and intentended to make fun of probably the only two on the SCOTUS that don’t worship Baal.

  22. Beckwith at “The Obama File”:

“Bullies: How the Left’s culture of fear and intimidation silences America”

“Jamie Glazov says Frontpage Interview’s guest today is Ben Shapiro, an attorney and writer and a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the David Horowitz Freedom Center. He is the author of the new book, Bullies: How The Left’s Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences America.

FP: Ben Shapiro, welcome to Frontpage Interview and congratulations on your new book.

FP: How can we fight back? What can we do to make a change? As you reveal in your book, Andrew Breitbart had some of the best ideas and tactics in this regard, yes?

Shapiro: Andrew was a warrior. He recognized that if we’re going to win, we have to walk toward the fire. The left will attack us no matter what. We have to embrace that and tell them that their slings and arrows mean nothing. When they call us racist, sexist bigots, they have no arguments — they are showing their weakness. All we have to do is turn those arguments back on them. If they lie about us, we will tell the truth about them. …

    FP: Final thoughts?

Shapiro: We cannot win unless we see this as a war. The left does. We’ve seen this as a hobby, because we always figured that the status quo of capitalism and family values would carry the day. That’s no longer the status quo. William F. Buckley famously said that it was our job to stand athwart the rails of history yelling stop. That’s no longer true. The train ran us over awhile back. Now it’s our job to get another train — a bigger train — and run it down those tracks at higher speed. We have to derail the left’s agenda, and then push the country back in the right direction.”

We can read, we can voice opinions, and we can think our thoughts, but without any CORRECTIVE action by ALL Americans to restore our republic to the values set down in our Constitution we might as well be shoveling manure against the tide.
