Jobless claims rise, Unemployment rate, Real truth about economy

“Winston dialed “back numbers” on the telescreen and called
for the appropriate issues of the Times, which slid out of
the pneumatic tube after only a few minutes’ delay.  The
messages he had received referred to articles or news items
which for one reason or another it was thought necessary to
alter, or, as the official phrase had it, to rectify.  For
example, it appeared from the Times of the seventeenth of
March that Big Brother, in his speech of the previous day,
had predicted that the South Indian front would remain quiet
but that a Eurasian offensive would shortly be launched in
North Africa.  As it happened, the Eurasian Higher Command
had launched its offensive in South India and left North
Africa alone.  It was therefore necessary to rewrite a
paragraph of Big Brother’s speech in such a way as to make
him predict the thing that had actually happened.”…George Orwell, “1984”

I had a conversation with a savvy friend of mine yesterday, who keeps up with news and gets it about the economy. I told him that I had been watching the jobless claims reports and that I was curious about the next report, which came out this morning. I applied some common sense and questioned what the real unemployment numbers are when the new college graduates are factored in. We both agreed that the real unemployed figure was far greater than the 9.7 % figure offered by the federal government.

This morning one of my questions was answered.

“In the week ending June 12, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 472,000, an increase of 12,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 460,000.”

https://citizenwells.com/2010/06/17/jobless-claims-rise-june-17-2010-us-labor-dept-12000-increase-initial-claims-472000/

This probably does not factor in recent college grads but it is, however, a best case scenario from the government. I continue to read the fairy tales about the economy while truth reporters such as Rush Limbaugh warn that much of the business activity is geared to putting income in 2010 and not later years when Obama tax increases will be non business, non economy friendly.

76 responses to “Jobless claims rise, Unemployment rate, Real truth about economy, College graduates and summer jobs

  1. The unemployment numbers would be over 17% if they were still reported the same way they had been before all the gov’t statistical changes since the LBJ administration.

You might also be surprised to know what the inflation rate would be if they still reported it the same way as it originally was reported, before they made all the changes over the years.
    It would be over 9%.

  2. They took people who have “stopped looking for a job” out of the unemployment numbers, so as to make unemployment seem not as bad, and thereby take some pressure off of politicians.

They finagled the inflation rate so

1 indexed payments for retirements and such wouldn’t be as big.

2 gov’t could borrow money more cheaply, since the bond market is tied to the inflation rate.

  3. Kentucky’s seasonally adjusted preliminary unemployment rate fell to 10.6 percent in April 2010 from a REVISED 10.7 percent in March 2010, according to the Office of Employment and Training.

The April 2010 jobless rate is .2 percentage points HIGHER than the 10.4 percent rate recorded in April 2009 for the state.

“Kentucky’s economy continued to stabilize in April 2010,” said Dr. Justine Detzel, OET chief labor market analyst, “however, TEMPORARY, RATHER THAN PERMANENT jobs are fueling the employment growth.”

Unemployment statistics are based on ESTIMATES and are compiled to measure trends RATHER THAN ACTUALLY COUNT PEOPLE WORKING.(THEREFORE, ALSO NOT ACCURATE FOR THOSE NOT WORKING???)

Since April 2009, employment in the manufacturing sector has fallen by 5,400 positions, which is indicative of the malaise resulting from the automobile slump impacting Kentucky, according to Detzel.

The government sector, which includes public education, public administration agencies and state-owned hospitals, gained 1,400 jobs in April 2010. The sector has 2,000 more jobs compared to April 2009. (SURPRISED??)

Since April 2009, employment in the construction sector has fallen by 6,200 jobs.

Employment in the mining and logging sector dropped by 100 jobs in April 2010. The sector has lost 1,700 workers since April 2009. (THANKS TO ILLEGAL SOETORO??)

    All emphasis mine. Patooey!!

Hope all is well in your Kentucky County. It sure ISN’T well in Jefferson and Spencer Counties. The tax rate in Spencer was raised again, and anyone owning a home having a market value in excess of $150,000 is going to feel the bite of another 4% being attached to the already “past reasonable” assessments. There is a really big inventory of homes now for sale in Spencer County. It is sad that the same thing is happening in Jefferson County, which you probably know includes greater Louisville. The ever increasing TAX MANIA throughout a large part of the state is LARGELY a product of the Liberal people in office. They seem to think that they are the owners of everybodies property, and that as such they can shake everybody down every few months for MORE,……..MORE………MORE…..
Perhaps it is now time for the property owners to tell the tax commissioners to go straight to HE## they should REFUSE to pay such exhorbitant taxation, whether in Kentucky or anywhere else. It is really nothing more than a RACKET! People need to see it as such. I don’t advocate zero real estate taxes, only a JUST taxation. When in the hands of HONEST government, and taxing entities it helps our educational systems, and the infrastructure. In dishonest government a very disproportionate amount of the funds finds it’s way into the personal bank accounts of the people who are charged with the handling of those funds. Often they are caught, but in Jefferson County, they are RARELY even prosecuted . They lay low for a while then start doing it all over again. Sadly it seems to have become a game in which everybody tries to steal more money than the next person. Jefferson has become one of the most corrupt counties in Kentucky.

    O/T Oil Gusher Information

Here is some data I promised to research yesterday:

Oil reservoirs at miles of depth (like this one) are HOT – typically 300-350 degrees Farenheit. (Make your own French Fries!) This one is no different. BP has measured the temperature at the well-head to be 140 degrees F.

There is no indication or suspicion that this well is in any way connected to a magma chamber or volcanic structures.

When I have referred in the past to “poking a hole in hell”, I hope I didn’t mislead by that fiery analogy. I was just trying to express that the well is huge, under high pressure, and with no sure way to stop it, it could blow for months or years. In which case the environmental and economic impact will be ‘hell’.

On the other hand, we could get lucky and get it stopped soon. And make no mistake about it – luck will play an important part. All the tools, equipment, processes, and techniques are untried and “experimental”. A lot of stuff is being made up on the fly.

The best people seem to be working on it and I cannot fault BP or others who are trying to stop the blow. They are working diligently.

The big issues that are looming are:

    1. What, who, when, how of the cause. But there is time to figure that out later.

    2. Cleanup efforts – both preventive and remediation. To early to tell on the remediation but the Government has totally failed to undertake prevention or mitigation. Somebody ought to be raking them over the coals, as opposed to the “high and mighty” government excoriating BP!

  11. Folks,

Does anyone know whether or not tha Arzonia State Senate Bill 1024, the so called Birther Bill, passed or not?

I am getting conflicting stories on the internet.

If not, I believe I have come up with an excellent idea… Reason I need to know.

Ps. Oldsalt, I responed to your NM Hwy 60 question a few posts back if you have not revied it yet.

  12. This morning I listened to the BP CEO try to make a statement as requested . Within seconds after he began a woman who appearred to be some sort of vagabond, with a painted face, etc began to yell and interrupt the CEO. To me such behavior is getting much worse in our country. It occurs at many public events, even at private FUNERALS. This seems to translate to people who have lost touch with reality, and live in their own little vacuums,in which they fancy themselves as the almighty supervisors over all people on earth. In reality these people are MENTALLY DISTURBED.
In no way do I side with BP,however if we are to ever accomplish anything meaningful we need to explore the entire event sensibly, and logically, and hopefully in a spirit of MUTUAL coooperation, and NOT IN A PROLIFERATION OF INSANE DEMANDS MADE BY PEOPLE WHO HAVEN’T THE SLIGHTEST IDEA HOW OIL DRILLING IS DONE.. IN SUCH AN ACCIDENT THERE IS OFTEN PRECURSORS. THERE IS A NEED TO GET AN ROV DOWN TO THE WRECK AND TRY TO ACCURATELY DETERMINE WHAT REALLY HAPPENED..We should not go off the deep end and make unfounded, and unproven allegations against BP. There was also a company involved called TRANSOCEAN, who along with Haliburton were doing the actual drilling. When the truth comes out it could be very possible that it was they who actually screwed up the detail. Just two weeks before the explosion Hayward had publically stated that they had discovered a great deal of incomtetency both within BP,and TRANSOCEAN. I personally think that in the final analysis TRANSOCEAN will be identified as the culprit, but BP will have to pay the TAB,because it was THEIR PROJECT. However Transocean, and Haliburton should NOT be left OUT OF THE HEAT,or OFF THE HOOK. If there is any blame to be placed I would think that the best place to begin an investigation would be with getting the sworn testimony of ALL of the engineers who survived the accident. Bear in mind that they worked for TRANSOCEAN not BP. I too sympathise with everybody who has no longer an income because of the accident. HOWEVER I BELIEVE THAT BP SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY REPARATIONS TO ANYONE WHO WAS LAID OFF FROM THE SHALLOW WATER DRILLING OPERATIONS. THE MORITORIUM WAS ANOTHER OF SOETORO’S MORONIC ACTS. SHALLOW WATER DRILLING IS A SAFE,AND ESTABLISHED TECHNOLOGY. There was no reason for a TOTAL drilling moritorium. I can see a moritorium on deep water drilling. This is still a technology “IN DEVELOPMENT”. As such there is a strong possibility, and even a probability that this will occur again somewhere in deep water drilling. It is a fact of life, but is deep water drilling worth the risk? We do have options.

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – Federal authorities announced Thursday that they had busted a large network of local “mortgage fraudsters” – some of which were allegedly operating out of Union and Mecklenburg counties.
The operation, called “Stolen Dreams” is being called the largest collective enforcement effort ever brought to bear in confronting mortgage fraud and focused on several prominent neighborhoods including Firethorne and Piper Glen, federal officials said.
A federal indictment charged ten people with various criminal counts including mortgage fraud conspiracy and bank bribery conspiracy was unsealed today upon the arrests of most of the defendants, authorities said in a press release.

  18. Citizen Carlyle(FUBO)

After my statement on a previous thread regarding the possibility of a hotspot having developed nearby the wellhead, I several times re examined the plume. As you stated I now think that it is the background yellow color of the capturing body which is reflecting through the plume intermittently, and seems to appear as occasional flame at the well head. However such an argument could be valid and certainly seemed worth looking at. The Gulf has in the past developed HOTSPOTS, and we usually pay the price in a higher rate of evaporation from the surface because the surface water temperature has increased substantially. This puts more water vapor in the atmosphere and when it hits a cold front ….voila heavy rain. Because of the massive distribution of the crude on the surface there is STILL a possibility that the crude could heat up the Gulf water enough to cause some really catastrophic rainfall to the northeast of the gulf, and even locally.
I fully agree with all that you have said so far. Most is engineering logic, and some sounds as though it is from a voice of EXPERIENCE. My experience lies mostly with the behavior of #6 Navy special (bunker oil) the consistency of which is nearly the same as crude before it is heated for use in the WW2, and Korean war era steam ships upon which I served, as an engineer.
I don’t think that this spill is going to doom deep water drilling in any way, but it certainly will be a LEARNING experience.

  35. Barack Obama: the most unpopular man in Britain?

What a difference 18 months and an oil spill makes. In January 2009 Barack Obama was hugely popular on this side of the Atlantic, and could have walked on water in the eyes of the British media, the political elites, and the general public. In June 2010 however he probably qualifies as the most despised US president since Nixon among the British people. In fact you can’t open a London paper at this time without reading yet another fiery broadside against a leader who famously boasted of restoring “America’s standing” in the world.
When even Obama’s most ardent political supporters in Britain, including Boris Johnson, are on the offensive against the White House, you know the president’s halo has dramatically slipped. It’s hard to believe that any politician could become more disliked in the UK than Gordon Brown, but Barack Obama is achieving that in spades. And as Janet Daley noted of the British press, the love affair with Barack is well and truly over.

  36. Why We’ll Never Run Out of Oil

    by Curtis Rist

American civilization as we know it appeared to be in grave peril a quarter century ago. When Arab nations cut off oil shipments to the United States during the 1973 war in the Middle East, gasoline prices abruptly rose 40 percent and panic ensued. Motorists idled in long lines at gas stations, where creeping tensions led to fights and even occasional shootings. Automakers scrambled to retool their assembly lines to manufacture miserly compacts rather than gas-guzzling behemoths. Entrepreneurs poured millions into upstart solar-energy and wind-power companies. Politicians pontificated about the need for collective belt-tightening and offered income tax credits to homeowners for energy-saving insulation. Meanwhile, doomsday scenarios predicted ever-increasing shortages of fossil fuels and $100-a-barrel oil prices by the year 2000.

Surprise. Doomsday is nigh and oil has been selling at $10 to $15 a barrel, not $100. Adjusting for inflation, gasoline is cheaper today than it was before the Arab oil embargo. Indeed, the world seems to be awash in oil.

Concerning that NUTCASE on the BP Hearings.

I was watching c-span call in this am and a caller called in and said that there was a whole new culture starting out in front of the hearing rooms. Young people stand in line for hours to get money from those from the Media who are too lazy and “busy”. This was a great idea that started in Moscow many years ago when McDonalds opened the first on in Russia. Russian students would stand in line for hours and place orders for hamburgers and sell them to the lazy but starved tourists.

However, to the trained person knowing, lived and familar with the terrian, it is as simple as a stroll. One needs not see 5 ft in front of them with a known trail to accomplish such task.

  43. Ok, I am ready to propose my suggetion with the Arz. State Senate Bill 1024.

This Bill was introduced by State Rep. Judy Burges, the so called birther bill which would have required the Arz. SOS to verify the qualifications of any Presidential canidate on the ballot. This was turned down and critized as an attack on Obama and many, even on the Reblican side, claimed it was an embarresment as every knows, as they said, Obama and the State of Hawaii has verified.

In my opinion, and maybe Free Speech or otheras will have to correct me, but any State proposed legislation can 1) be reintroduced, 2) can call upon expert or knowledgable witness that justify said Bill, and 3) can have such experts or knowledgable persons testify on the floor under oath, along with a Q&A sessions from all sitting committee members for review.

Having said that, would it not be worth the time to get in touch wiith Arz. State Rep. Judy Burges and have her reintroduce senate bill 1024 with the witness testimony of Tim Adams to support her Bill?

Think about it. This would accomplish many things.

1). Tim Adams testimony would be under oath and on Arz. State record to support the Bill.

2). It would show that those in doubt are highly wrong.

    3) it would allow and open forum for doubters and deniers to question themsleves and Mr. Adams

“Looks like we have huge reserves in the Gulf of Mexico that bo is trying to cover up.”
After month one, we are now in month 2-I was starting to wonder if this was sabotage, did they accidentally hit the mother lode and that is what they are really trying to hide, due to their fondness to get cap and trade passed like they tried to hustle thru Obama Care in dark of night, and many other nefarious schemes.
More and more will be investigated, more folks on the water-in daily contact with the residents near-by, I think we are in for more interesting developments. I hope the media will wake-up and try to stay somewhat alert.
    *************************************

Everything that I have read leads me to the conclusion that it was sabotage by bo & his Terrorist Pals on the eve of earth day (too cute by half). Everything points to the fact that bp knew they had an awesome gusher. No doubt bo’s Terrorist spys got wind of it and then conspired to blow the well, not knowing how it would backfire on bo’s cap & trade scheme & off-shore drilling moratorium scheme.

This can turn out to be a blessing in disguise if Patriots will gear up the Grand Juries and get bo out of our White House and start prosecuting all of the boCohorts.

According to the best experts, we need to drill many more than 2 wells into that oil reservoir to relieve the pressure. If we can end our energy dependence on bo’s Terrorist Pals, we will have a much better World for all but the boTerrorists.

  46. Aristotle the Hun @ 4:04 pm
Aristotle, I have been reading you forever. I love the Steady Drip. I really liked the video of Bunny and her bike, looks like my family, excited over the simple things in life. If it wasn’t so hot here in South Florida I would take a ride myself.
I re-read the article I know I read it in 09. How does anyone live in a state of perpetual crisis, that’s not normal, and what would they do with a real one? Guess we are seeing that in the Gulf, maybe to them all crises are the same, stubbed toe, hit thumb with hammer, Gulf Oil Spill. They remind me of Soap Opera insanity, many people love them, I hate soap opera’s so stupid, unreal and phony. Real life can be difficult at times, but that is how everyone learns. I know the folks in the Gulf are out in the heat and humidity doing the best they can with what they have got. Had they known how inept the reponse from Obama/BP they would have done their own thing earlier. I think Obama just proved the Republican point of view smaller government is much better therefore he should fire himself first, all his czars and 75 per cent of the Federal Government. Congress we will redecorate.

  47. I never thought I would live to see the day that we would have a President who was so corrupt that he would HAVE to run and win the presidency to escape all forms of punishment. I am ashamed for this country. There, I said it and ONLY GOD can save this country now.

Now everyone go and watch the US OPEN

I am smelling a rat too. However, I think it is the old left wing tactic of taking advantage of a crisis rather than outright sabotage.

    Please consider these points:

    1) In over 100 years of drilling in bodies of water, this is the 1st disaster of this magnitude.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_platform

    2. The explosion happened on the eve of earth day. (too cute by half)

    3. bo’s 1st response was to send in SWAT teams. Why if not to cover up investigation of the cause of the explosion?

    4. A curious false story was floated through Russia Press that a North Korea sub torpedoed the well. Why the story was obviously false?

    5. Regardless of cause it was immediately used to invoke a moratorium on off-shore drilling.

    6. Regardless of cause it was immediately used to seize control of BP.

    7. Regardless of cause it was immediately used to promote Cap & Trade.

    8. bo has yet to call for an investigation of the cause of the explosion.

    9. bo continues to coverup all facts about the size of the oil reservoir. Why?

  49. The administration’s “Justice dept.” is going to sue Arizona:

Don’t forget James Carville is from LA, can you imagine what he is hearing from family, friends, former business acquaintances?
South Side of Chicago everyone is warned away from there, has been like that for years, since it is so dangerous-mob rule by drug dealers, murderers, thieves and every kind of vice that is known. They still have not figured out why no business of any kind would want to locate there. The people who lived there shopped in our suburbs.

  52. Prairie @ 4:47 pm
I thought he only owned 18 per cent? so he can only get lippy 18 per cent worth and he should speak for himself.

  53. I have a theory – One day the CIA said to the KGB (or the other way around) “If the people think there is no problem between us they will cancel our jobs. “OH NO!” they said to each other. “Let’s keep up the good act!!”

With this group anything/everything is possible, but I think the equation has changed. So many people, ships are now out on the water, some of which are experienced (that would not be me), they will see things and hear things and will be able to deduce what really is going on, I wonder what the families of the men who were killed are going to do. If it was an accident, it was an accident. If it was sabotague in any way it is murder, plus I’m sure they had insurance policies, so I wonder if the insurance companies will investigate or if that is part of standard operating procedure?

Adams

    4) as this ]ill gained some national media attention, so would Tim Adams new relavations testimony, thus would also gain national media attention.

5). There would be no court, no filing period to wait for and no judge to claim lack of standing. It’s there and now on record.

No; I have told the reader on my blog, where the idea originated, this law is ‘unlawful’ on its face.

The laws that states have passed which could be in play, are the ones that require all candidates whose names appear on the ballot, must be eligible for the job. So far, we have identified these states have these ballot eligibility laws: GA, HI, MD, SC, TX, and VA.

In all states, the law requires the official overseeing the proper carrying out of the election process, usually the SoS, to promulgate rules and regulations to carry out this task. So, first, get a state law that only opens up the state ballot to candidates eligible for the job.

Exactly. With you 110% on this one. This bill was dropped right after 1070 was passed, and we were told it was too controversial now that 1070 had passed…. After the primaries (Aug 24 I think), I hope it becomes a campaign issue and that voters put all candidates on notice that we expect 1024 to be reintroduced and PASSED!!!

And I really like your idea about having Tim Adams testify. I would consider him a hostile witness, but in some ways that just reinforces the credibility of his testimony. His opinions are moot; but his facts are invaluable. Would definitely empower the AZ house and senate.

I grew up by O’Hare and worked for an aircraft company, I don’t even want to think about what could happen if a person who was not a pilot or very inexperienced one could do. The results could be beyond sickening.

  65. I’m still working on different legal angles; so yet another question for the legal eagles please:

The Hawaii COLB that Obama posted has been examined and declared a fraud by at least two digital forensic experts (possibly more). Does anyone know if they’ve also examined the Kenyan birth documents to determine if they are also forged? And if they did, and found no traces or evidence of fraud in the Kenyan docs, would that be enough for a court to indict Obama, Gibbs, Piglosi, et al, for fraud/forgery? Or enough to demand state AGs to investigate? Would it have to be a federal court? Criminal or civil or either one?

Thanks. I really appreciate the insight!

Are you saying the SoS has complete control over a state’s election laws? If so, where is this written — state constitution? Federal constitution?

jbjd: “first, get a state law that only opens up the state ballot to candidates eligible for the job”
AZ already requires a sworn affidavit from all candidates that they are eligible; is this what you meant? (or something similar)

jbjd: “have the SoS write the provisions to ensure candidates are eligible, using authority s/he already possesses, under the law which created that position!”

AZ already requires eligibility by law; would this mean the SoS now must make their own regs to require proof of eligibility, not just an affidavit?

If the legislature cannot do so, does this preclude even a ballot proposition by citizens to require the SoS to do so?

IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN THE “KENYAN BC” THAT ORLY TRIED TO SUBMIT IN COURT WAS PROVEN TO BE A FORGERY, BUT I AM NOT CERTAIN.

And if they did, and found no traces or evidence of fraud in the Kenyan docs, would that be enough for a court to indict Obama, Gibbs, Piglosi, et al, for fraud/forgery?

THE KENYAN BC OR LACK THEREOF IS IRRELEVANT. bo’s AGENT GIBBS HAS ALREADY ADMITTED THAT HE PUT THE COLB ON THE INTERNET PURPORTING IT TO BE TRUE & EXACT. SO HE IS GUILTY OF FRAUD AS IS bo FOR CONSPIRING TO HAVE GIBBS COMMIT SAID FRAUD.

Or enough to demand state AGs to investigate?

    YES.

Would it have to be a federal court? NO! bo WANTS IT IN FEDERAL COURT WHERE HE APPOINTS THE JUDGES & US ATTORNEYS & WHERE HE WOULD CERTAINLY BE ACQUITTED REGARDLESS OF THE EVIDENCE ALA OJ IN LA OR MAYOR MARION BARRY IN DC. THAT IS WHERE bo WOULD BE TRIED IN DC.

Criminal or civil or either one? CRIMINAL

    *********************************************

The SoS in AZ already required that sworn statement BO submitted, to run in the primary. But this does not entitle anyone to make him prove he is a NBC. Some states require anyone wanting to run in a party primary to submit papers through the party. (SC, for example.) In this way, the SoS could go after the party. ‘You signed this paper swearing BO is qualified to get his name on the ballot. Could you please show us what documents you accessed as the basis for that Certification?’ But the state only has the right to ask, when being eligible is a condition of getting the state to print his or her name on the ballot.

Call your SoS tomorrow. Ask this question: ‘Could you please refer me to the state laws that spell out the job of the SoS?’ Because citizens like you enacted these laws. Otherwise, how does the SoS know what is the job description? (The law that set up the office is called the “enabling” statute.)
