Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysberg Address

“Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate — we can not consecrate — we can not hallow — this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us — that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion — that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain — that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom — and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

  4. Several years ago my brother-in-law from Berlin, Germany, not Maryland, came to visit us. His dream was to go to Gettysburg to see the spot where Lincoln gave his speech. On a warm Virginia Sunday we packed into the car a set off. After several hours we arrived and drove to the Information Center which is walking distance from the original site. We walked over and my dear BIL gave the speech, first in English and then in German. The few visitors there applauded and I asked how many of even know it in English?
    My BIL was in Berlin when the USURPER gave his infamous speech there. He said -“Do you know how effective his speech was? The French surrendered just in case!!”

    Speculation about the origin of “BAR” is NONSENSE.

    It also stands for a place people go to drink. It also stands for the bar that separates the spectator area in a courtroom.

    How is this “news”? Why is this NONSENSE posted on threads about meaningful discussion of crimes committed by bo?

But why won’t lawyers come clean now. It’s a subject they don’t talk about. Why not make peace their neighbors who they injured by maintaining the Washington D.C. corporation. It will all come out in the wash anyway.
    On the second question, this reporter had one response by a researcher stating BAR this does not stand for British Accredited Registry. No firm information has been found to refute that, although British influence has returned to America as “Inns of Court”. Inns of Court may have darkside.”

  13. One of the poems that my mother spoke of was, “In Flanders Fields”, by John McCrae. This was very popular during WW I. Last evening I had occasion to read this:

    “We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields.” (middle verse)

    The last verse is:

    “Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.”

    It says, “Take up our quarrel with the foe”. Have we ever had more of a “quarrel” to deal with right here in the homeland than we do today??

    “To you from failing hands we throw the torch; be yours to hold it high….” Could there ever be a greater challenge to us who recognize what is happening to our beloved country?

    “If ye break faith with us who die…”
    We cannot; we must not!! It will take Divine intervention and infusion of God’s power to enable us to keep that promise.

    Thanks for sharing that great story about your brother-in-law and his recitation of the Gettysberg Address. Those people who heard that will never forget it, and rightly so.

    From what I read of European sentiments, BHO is much more understood for what he really is, or, should I say, for what he is not!

    As you know it has always been my hope that We Patriots could resolve this Constitutional Crisis by acting upon our rights to form citizen Grand Juries.

    If civil war breaks out in one or more of the hot spots (Chicago, Nashville, New Orleans, Phoenix, Detroit, Memphis etc.) then I expect many States will secede from the Union.

    Frankly, I hope Tennessee does not secede right away so that we Patriots can continue to work on a peaceful Constitutional solution to the bo crisis by Citizen Grand Jury indictments.

    Obama Declares June Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, And Transgender Pride Month

    The Sestak memo wasn’t the only document the White House dumped last week as everyone in Washington scurried out of town for the long weekend. On Friday, the White House released a presidential proclamation in which Obama declared June 2010 to be ‘Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month’:

    Much work remains to fulfill our Nation’s promise of equal justice under law for LGBT Americans. That is why we must give committed gay couples the same rights and responsibilities afforded to any married couple, and repeal the Defense of Marriage Act. We must protect the rights of LGBT families by securing their adoption rights, ending employment discrimination against LGBT Americans, and ensuring Federal employees receive equal benefits. We must create safer schools so all our children may learn in a supportive environment. I am also committed to ending “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” so patriotic LGBT Americans can serve openly in our military, and I am working with the Congress and our military leadership to accomplish that goal.

    As we honor the LGBT Americans who have given so much to our Nation, let us remember that if one of us is unable to realize full equality, we all fall short of our founding principles. Our Nation draws its strength from our diversity, with each of us contributing to the greater whole. By affirming these rights and values, each American benefits from the further advancement of liberty and justice for all.

    NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2010 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month. I call upon all Americans to observe this month by fighting prejudice and discrimination in their own lives and everywhere it exists.
