Obama school speech, September 8, 2009, NC breaking news, Local school policy, NC counties decide, Contact your local school board

I just got off the phone with the NC Board of Education. I asked them 2 questions about the Obama speech to school students scheduled for September 8, 2009.

1. Will the state of NC participate in this?

2. Will opposing opinions be allowed?

The answer to both questions is that this will be handled at the local level. In NC this means the county school boards or other local governing body.

I am requesting that all NC citizens contact their local school boards, ask the above questions and voice your concern about allowing Obama to influence your children.

I am also requesting that citizens in other states contact your state board of education and find out what their policy is and likewise voice your concerns.

Exercise your First Amendment Rights and protect our children and our country.

Some guy came to my house from “Project Porchlight” to give me one of those cfl bulbs. On the box it says “Change Within Reach”. Weird. Wonder who’s paying for this? I went to their website. They have a b.o. video on it, although it is not a govt. site. Anyone else get one of these?

A man with a megaphone kept walking up and down our ranks encouraging us to “Hold the Line!!”

That’s what we have to do each and every day my brave, patriotic fellow Americans! Hold the line against tyranny, against those who would enslave us.

  10. Hubby is a teacher here in our county. He received a letter, as did all county teachers, from the county administrators notifying them of the “president’s” speech.

He said that he threw it away. “My students aren’t watching that,” was his response.

    Go hubby……

  16. Only one absent on Sept 8 in our schools will be OBAMA! Flooded with calls and e-mails, our district will not be showing the speech. This is as of 8:30 am. Just yesterday morning the Superintendant was calling it a “historical event.” Today it is “too controversial to get in the middle of.” Amen. Concerned parents make your calls. E-mail your board members info on the need for curriculum review and approval- they don’t want the heat.

  17. Prarie that is awesome! What state do you live in?

  18. This is what the Obama White House suffers from, hence all this tracking, spying, shutting down dissent (an obligation under the Constitution) speeches for help from children (desperation) , one insane thing after another.
Yes we are out to get them. Get them to obey the law, any law. Not be a law unto their own selves (made-up as they go along) .
We Chicagoans did not like mob rule (corruption) , why do they think the rest of the nation would? Without the Constitution, that is what we have mob rule, law of the jungle.
Paranoia is an unfounded or exaggerated distrust of others, sometimes reaching delusional proportions. Paranoid individuals constantly suspect the motives of those around them, and believe that certain individuals, or people in general, are “out to get them.” All they really need is a mirror, they are deluded enough to think that the dissenters think like them. Wrong. We want to save the Constitution-no more no less.

  20. Nancy // September 3, 2009 at 9:57 am

    Morning Nancy,

CFL bulbs contain mercury so if you break one, it’s a different procedure than if you break an incandescent bulb (which I’m hoarding right now). I don’t want CFL bulbs in my house.

Here’s the procedure from the NY Dept. of Environmental Conservation in case you bust one:

    *****************************************

What do I do if a CFL breaks in my house?

It is important to minimize the exposure, by contact or inhalation, of humans and pets to mercury. These simple (HUH?) clean-up instructions will help to ensure safe handling of broken CFLs:

Before clean-up make sure you ventilate the room. Make sure that people and pets leave the room, and don’t let anyone walk through the breakage area for 15 minutes. Be sure to open a window and shut off the forced-air heating or air conditioning system.

Clean-up on hard surfaces. Using stiff paper or cardboard, carefully scoop up glass fragments and powder and place them in a container, preferably a glass jar with a metal lid (such as a canning jar). Use sticky tape (such as duct tape) to pick up any remaining small glass fragments and powder. Wipe the area clean with damp paper towels or disposable wet wipes and place them in the container. DO NOT use a vacuum or broom to clean up the broken bulb on hard surfaces, since this will spread the particles around the room.

Clean-up on carpets or rugs. Carefully pick up glass fragments and place them in a container, preferably a glass jar with a metal lid (such as a canning jar). Use sticky tape (such as duct tape) to pick up any remaining small glass fragments and powder. If vacuuming is needed after all visible materials are removed, vacuum only the area where the bulb was broken. Remove the vacuum bag (or empty and wipe the canister) and put the bag or vacuum debris in two sealed plastic bags. It is important to discard the bag and wipe out the canister with a damp cloth before using the machine again.

Disposal of clean-up materials. Immediately place all clean-up materials outside the building in a trash container or outdoor protected area for the next normal trash disposal day. Wash your hands after disposing of the jars or plastic bags containing clean-up materials.

  21. sandy, get in line.
I will be ahead of you.

  22. Thanks Jenna.
Get everyone you know to call them.
    Don’t stand for this!

  23. OK. Just called my grandson’s school. They said they are looking into it, but don’t know if the new computer system can get sound with the video to all the classrooms. I told her I hope not, that I find it very disturbing. She said “well, he is the president & I think he just wants to welcome kids back to school & encourage them”. I told her he is trying to use the kids to push his agend & I if I want to view it with him & discuss what he says, I will, but his politics should be left out of the classroom. I told her about the celebrity “pledge” video. About pledging to be a servant to the president. She did not know anything about that, but they definitely would not show that. I said “good, leave my kid alone”. She did say that they are getting calls from other parents. She took my phone number & will call me to let me know what is going to happen. They probably have me on the terrorist list now.

  26. Sandy- Remember the movie Erin Brockovich when she went head to head with the liars. All she could do was keep looking for the truth and exposing it, for the people who were sickened and died due to these toxic chemicals, which they denied existed. A lie cannot be converted into the truth. Keep telling the truth as you know it to be.
My investigation eventually established that the health of countless people who lived in and around Hinkley, California, in the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s had been severely compromised by exposure to toxic Chromium 6. The Chromium 6 had leaked into the groundwater from the nearby Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s Compressor Station. In 1996, as a result of the largest direct action lawsuit of its kind, spearheaded by me and Ed Masry, the giant utility paid the largest toxic tort injury settlement in U.S. history: $333 million in damages to more than 600 Hinkley residents.

  28. I just talked to the principal at my son’s Lutheran school. She said it was up to the Social Studies teacher whether they show the speech. But that they probably would.
I told her that polling shows 94% believe it is propaganda, that no leader since Stalin and Hitler have tried this: circumventing the parents and going directly for the children. That the speech is political in nature. That it is a big controversy and that many parents are thinking about attending with the child. That it is not about the country, but asking for support of the president.
She seemed to be unaware of all of this.
How can people not be questioning anything the government is up to at this time in history?

  33. Obama and his goons have become Bull Connor with tactics to match.
1963 was a pivotal year for both Connor and Birmingham. Martin Luther King organised a civil rights march in the heartland of a city that was openly segregationist. It could only lead to trouble – and trouble duly followed. Connor saw the move by King as being a direct challenge to his authority within the city. Those who demonstrated faced high pressure hoses and police dogs. The images were shown around the world – of unarmed demonstrators who were non-aggressive being attacked by the police. It could have only done the civil rights cause a great deal of good and brought international and national shame on Birmingham. The irony is that the black population of Birmingham was wary of supporting the march as they knew that it was likely to provoke a response from Connor. They also knew that they would still be in the city when the likes of King had left and that it would be the black community that would have to suffer the long term consequences. Many of those on the march were ‘imported’ and the dearth of adults was such that King used children on the demonstration to give the appearance of bolstered numbers. However, the images of children being attacked by those who were meant to maintain law and order did a great deal to damage Connor. It has also been argued that J F Kennedy was so outraged by what was seen on television, that what Connor led helped to accelerate what was to become the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

  38. This is why what Obama is trying to do now sounds eerily familiar.
“Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
Who did these boys pledge to be of service to?
The Hitler Youth Movement succeeded in mesmerizing an entire generation of idealistic German boys with the NAZI ideology of racial and national superiority. These boys were the ones who carried out without question the barbarities of aggressive war and the Holocaust.

At the end of nearly every inspirational rally, the audience is entreated to take a collective oath. In the midst of a crowd of thousands of brethren, we are to pledge our support.
Unfortunately, we are not in a position to rationally consider what we are doing. Hitler went so far as to threaten his followers with punishment for noncompliance…

  42. This is from Dr. Orly’s web-site. This could not work retroactively? An admission by Obama that he is not eligible?
You are doing a great job of representing Mr. Keyes, despite the negatives that are being circulated about you on the Internet. I am neither Republican nor Democrat, but, rather, a believer in the proper application of law, and, as such, am a firm believer in abiding by the supreme law of the land. I’m sure you have heard that Obama would love to convene a Constitutional Convention in order to try to change the natural born citizen requirement in the U.S. Constitution. That would be a severe travesty. I wish you the best in your legal endeavors.

  44. A commenter at americasright…..writes the following….maybe we should all contact the Secretary of Education…Duncan and give ’em hell>>>>Please read below…
    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I raised my concerns about this to my school board, they responded by sending me this letter going out to all principals:

    ————-

Some of you may have received an e-mail from Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education, outlining details for a live web address by President Obama scheduled for Sept. 8. This information is also attached for your reference as not all schools received the e-mail. We have contacted Secretary Duncan’s office, and we were told that the speech is approximately 20 minutes in length. Secretary Duncan’s office was not able to provide the written text of the message.

We recognize that this live broadcast is on the first day of school, and that the broadcast time does not work well with opening-day activities. The web-cast will be archived (www.whitehouse.gov/video) so that students may view the President’s message along with their families at home if they choose to do so.

Following standard procedures for resources utilized in the classroom, and after the message has been broadcast, additional guidance will be provided to schools.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me at 898-0409.

    ———-

I responded by saying that I expect to be contacted in advance if and when any additional guidance is provided to schools so that I can make a decision about my childrens’ participation in any activities related to this address.

  45. Can you imagine our CIA, Secret Service, FBI, Military taking orders from something like this.

    From Lame Cherry-
If Mr. Obama is going after the CIA for fiction, then Eric Holder must go after Mr. Obama for the reality of his murderous threats which were real against United States bankers.

That is the reality and I know there are CIA agents, FBI agents and Justice Department agents who are well aware of this and other Obama misdeeds who are biding their time for the tide to turn, so that when a new order comes to Washington, it will be Mr. Holder and Mr. Obama who will be having the full weight of justice on them.

Have principals and teachers received any advise, recommendation, announcement, or other communication regarding the speech, if so she would like to know or see what went out. If not, are principals, teachers, students and school personnel going to be allowed to opt out? How is the administration handling this matter?

Mrs. Thurman said she is getting calls from concerned parents and would like to know our position so she can answer their questions.
    _________________________________

HCDE does not have a “position” on the Back to School Message that President Obama will be delivering next Tuesday, September 8, at 1:00 p.m. on the White House website http://www.whitehouse.gov.

Secretary of Education Arne Duncan sent a back-to-school message to share with all principals. That message was sent by HCDE Announcements. It does not advocate any particular position; it provides information from Secretary Duncan regarding classroom activities, etc.

No mandate was given to school administrators, teachers, parents or students. They may certainly participate or not. Parents should be directed to call their school administrator with any questions or concerns regarding this.

The Secretary of Education noted that this is the first time a President of the United States has spoken directly to students asking them to work hard and set educational goals so they can compete in a global economy. Please see the message reprinted below.

    Thank you,

    Jim Scales

    Dear Principal:
In a recent interview with student reporter, Damon Weaver, President Obama announced that on September 8 – the first day of school for many children across America – he will deliver a national address directly to students on the importance of education. The President will challenge students to work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for their learning. He will also call for a shared responsibility and commitment on the part of students, parents and educators to ensure that every child in every school receives the best education possible so they can compete in the global economy for good jobs and live rewarding and productive lives as American citizens.

Since taking office, the President has repeatedly focused on education, even as the country faces two wars, the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression and major challenges on issues like energy and health care. The President believes that education is a critical part of building a new foundation for the American economy. Educated people are more active civically and better informed on issues affecting their lives, their families and their futures.

This is the first time an American president has spoken directly to the nation’s school children about persisting and succeeding in school. We encourage you to use this historic moment to help your students get focused and begin the school year strong. I encourage you, your teachers, and students to join me in watching the President deliver this address on Tuesday, September 8, 2009. It will be broadcast live on the White House website http://www.whitehouse.gov at 1:00 p.m. eastern standard time.

In advance of this address, we would like to share the following resources: a menu of classroom activities for students in grades preK-6 and for students in grades 7-12. These are ideas developed by and for teachers to help engage students and stimulate discussion on the importance of education in their lives. We are also staging a student video contest on education. Details of the video contest will be available on our website http://www.ed.gov in the coming weeks.

On behalf of all Americans, I want to thank our educators who do society’s most important work by preparing our children for work and for life. No other task is more critical to our economic future and our social progress. I look forward to working with you in the months and years ahead to continue improving the quality of public education we provide all of our children.

    Sincerely,
    Arne Duncan

    Menu of Classroom Activities
President Obama’s Address to Students Across America
    (PreK-6)

Produced by Teaching Ambassador Fellows, U.S. Department of Education

    September 8, 2009

    Before the Speech
    • Teachers can build background knowledge about the President of the United States and his speech by reading books about presidents and Barack Obama. Teachers could motivate students by asking the following questions:
Who is the President of the United States?
What do you think it takes to be president?
To whom do you think the president is going to be speaking?
Why do you think he wants to speak to you?
What do you think he will say to you?
    • Teachers can ask students to imagine that they are delivering a speech to all of the students in the United States.
If you were the president, what would you tell students?
What can students do to help in our schools?
Teachers can chart ideas about what students would say.
    • Why is it important that we listen to the president and other elected officials, like the mayor, senators, members of congress, or the governor? Why is what they say important?
    During the Speech
    • As the president speaks, teachers can ask students to write down key ideas or phrases that are important or personally meaningful. Students could use a note-taking graphic organizer such as a “cluster web;” or, students could record their thoughts on sticky notes. Younger children could draw pictures and write as appropriate. As students listen to the speech, they could think about the following:
What is the president trying to tell me?
What is the president asking me to do?
What new ideas and actions is the president challenging me to think about?
    • Students could record important parts of the speech where the president is asking them to do something. Students might think about the following:
What specific job is he asking me to do?
Is he asking anything of anyone else?
Teachers? Principals? Parents? The American people?
    • Students could record questions they have while he is speaking and then discuss them after the speech. Younger children may need to dictate their questions.

    After the Speech
    • Teachers could ask students to share the ideas they recorded, exchange sticky notes, or place notes on a butcher-paper poster in the classroom to discuss main ideas from the speech, such as citizenship, personal responsibility, and civic duty.
    • Students could discuss their responses to the following questions:
What do you think the president wants us to do?
Does the speech make you want to do anything?
Are we able to do what President Obama is asking of us?
What would you like to tell the president?

    Extension of the Speech

Teachers could extend learning by having students:
    • Create posters of their goals. Posters could be formatted in quadrants, puzzle pieces, or trails marked with the following labels: personal, academic, community, and country. Each area could be labeled with three steps for achieving goals in that area. It might make sense to focus first on personal and academic goals so that community and country goals can be more readily created.
    • Write letters to themselves about how they can achieve their short-term and long-term education goals. Teachers would collect and redistribute these letters at an appropriate later date to enable students to monitor their progress.
    • Write goals on colored index cards or precut designs to post around the classroom.
    • Interview one another and share goals with the class to create a supportive community.
    • Participate in school-wide incentive programs or contests for those students who achieve their goals.
    • Write about their goals in a variety of genres, such as poems, songs, and personal essays.
    • Create artistic projects based on the themes of their goals.
    • Graph individual progress toward goals.

    Menu of Classroom Activities
President Obama’s Address to Students Across America
    (Grades 7-12)

Produced by Teaching Ambassador Fellows, U.S. Department of Education
    September 8, 2009

    Before the Speech
    • Conduct a “quick write” or “think/pair/share” activity with students. (In the latter activity, students spend a few minutes thinking and writing about the question. Next, each student is paired with another student to discuss. Finally, the students share their ideas with the class as a whole). Teachers may choose to ask the following questions:
What ideas do we associate with the words “responsibility,” “persistence,” and “goals?”
How would we define each term?
Teachers then may choose to create a web diagram of student ideas for each of the words.
    • Have students participate in a “quick write” or brainstorming activity. Teachers may ask students:
    What are your strengths?
What do you think makes you successful as a student and as a person?
    • Teachers may engage students in short readings. Teachers may post in large print around the classroom notable quotes excerpted from President Obama’s speeches on education. Teachers might ask students to think alone, compare ideas with a partner, or share their thoughts with the class. Teachers could ask students to think about the following:
What are our interpretations of these excerpts?
Based on these excerpts, what can we infer that the president believes is important in order to be educationally successful?
    • Create a “concept web.” Teachers may ask students to think of the following:
Why does President Obama want to speak with us today? How will he inspire us?
    How will he challenge us?
    What might he say?
Do you remember any other historic moments when the president spoke to the nation?
    What was the impact?
After brainstorming answers to these questions, students could create a “cause-and-effect” graphic organizer.

    During the Speech
    • Teachers might conduct a “listening with purpose” exercise based on the following ideas: personal responsibility, goals, and persistence. Teachers might ask pairs of students to create a word bank at the top of a notes page that has been divided into two columns. On the right-hand side, students could take notes (trying to capture direct quotations or main ideas) while President Obama talks about personal responsibility, goals, or persistence. At the end of the speech, students could write the corresponding terms from the word bank in the left-hand column, to increase retention and deepen their understanding of an important aspect of the speech.
    • Teachers might conduct a “listening with purpose” exercise based on the themes of inspiration and challenges. Using a similar double-column notes page as the one described above, teachers could focus students on quotations that either propose a specific challenge to them or that inspire them in some meaningful way. Students could do this activity individually, in pairs, or in groups.

    Transition/Quick Review
    • Teachers could ask students to look over their notes and collaborate in pairs or small groups. Teachers might circulate and ask students questions, such as:
What more could we add to our notes?
What are the most important words in the speech?
What title would you give the speech?
What is the thesis of the speech?

    After the Speech

    Guided Discussion:
    • What resonated with you from President Obama’s speech? What lines or phrases do you remember?
    • Whom is President Obama addressing? How do you know? Describe his audience.
    • We heard President Obama mention the importance of personal responsibility. In your life, who exemplifies this kind of responsibility? How? Give examples.
    • How are the individuals in this classroom similar? How is each student different?
    • Suppose President Obama were to give another speech about being educationally successful. To whom would he speak? Why? What would the president say?
    • What are the three most important words in the speech? Rank them.
    • Is President Obama inspiring you to do anything? Is he challenging you to do anything?
    • What do you believe are the challenges of your generation?
    • How can you be a part of addressing these challenges?

    Video Project:
    • Teachers could encourage students to participate in the U.S. Department of Education’s “I Am What I Learn” video contest. On September 8, the Department of Education will invite students age 13 and older to submit a video no longer than two minutes in length, explaining why education is important and how education will help them achieve their dreams. Teachers are welcome to incorporate the same or a similar video project into a classroom assignment. More details will be released via http://www.ed.gov.

    Transition/Quick Review
    • Teachers could introduce goal-setting activities in the following way to make the most of extension activities:

“When you set a goal, you envision a target that you are going to reach over time. Goals are best when they are “Challenging,” “Attainable,” and “Needed” (CAN). For example, a good goal might be: ‘I want to boost my average grade by one letter grade this year so I can show colleges that I am prepared.’ But, every good goal also needs steps that guide the way. These steps keep you on track toward achieving your goal. For example, my first step might be improving in all of my subjects by one letter grade. My second step might be completing 100-percent of my homework in all of my classes during the first week of school. My third step might be taking an extra hour to study for all of my tests during each marking period. My fourth step might be attending a tutoring session or getting an adult to help me whenever I do not understand something. My last step might be the most important: asking an adult in my life to check on me often to make sure that I am completing each of my steps. Your steps should add up to your goal. If they don’t, that’s okay; we fix them until they do!

Let’s hear another example of an academic goal for the year and decide what steps would help to achieve that goal…

Now I want you to write your personal academic goal for this year and the steps that you will take to achieve it. We can revise our steps each marking period to make sure we are on track.”

    Extension of the Speech

Teachers could extend learning by having students:
    • Create decorated goals and steps on material that is the size of an index card. The index cards could be formatted as an inviting graphic organizer with a space for the goal at the top and several steps in the remaining space. Cards could be hung in the classroom to create a culture of goal setting, persistence, and success, and for the purpose of periodic review. (See the “Example Handout” section.)
    • Create posters of their goals. Posters could be formatted in quadrants, puzzle pieces, or trails marked as steps. These also could be hung around the room, to be reviewed periodically and to create a classroom culture of goal setting and for the purpose of periodic review.
    • Interview and share their goals with one another and the class, establishing community support for their goals.
    • Create incentives or contests for achieving their personal goals.
    • Write about goals and the steps to achieve them in a variety of genres such as poems, songs, or personal essays.
    • Create artistic representations of goals and the steps to achieve them.

  49. I dont think my post went through.

  50. Pat Smith, et al.
    Great job!
I hope that everyone is emailing their contacts and requesting the same.
I am busy with my next article about Obama’s radical education agenda.

  51. Citizen Wells, (or anyone else if applicable).

I contacted my County District Board Member, and your not going to belive what is in this email, the links to the work activities especially!

Can I simply forward the email sent to me and someone post it in here with the links that will work? I do not know how to do this, therefore I would rather simply forward it to someones email so they can post it in here.

    Thanks,

  52. Just found out that my county is leaving it up to the teacher to determine if it can be tied into their cirriculum and that they have to send a note home and offer alternative work for the children of parents who are willing to stigmatize their child in that manner. (rolling my eyes)

As an ex-teacher in public schools, I predicted lots of that happening..residing in Kentucky and with Mcconnell touring the country with Mccain on an anti-Obamacare mission, I predict lots of teachers and principals trashed that letter.

Received this yesterday and spells out clearly this is wrong:

Section 439 of the General Education Provisions Act (20 U.S.C. 1232g) is amended to read as follows:

    “PROTECTION OF PUPIL RIGHTS

“Sec. 439. (a) All instructional materials, including teacher’s manuals, films, tapes, or other supplementary material which will be used in connection with any survey, analysis, or evaluation as part of any applicable program shall be available for inspection by the parents or guardians of the children.

“(b) No student shall be required, as part of any applicable program, to submit to a survey, analysis, or evaluation that reveals information concerning—

    “(1) political affiliations;

(I taught in the 80’s and no parent was ever refused visits to the child’s classroom in Tennessee………)

  55. Greg Goss:

Read the paper that came with that bulb. No warning or instructions for cleanup for breakage! Just warranty info.

    JJ:

If you read Sue K’s comment, the cleanup for those bulbs is downright scary – evacuate the area? I am stockpiling good, old fashioned bulbs.

  57. Good morning, All:
A little OT…but just had to copy & paste this from a friend’s email I just got a few minutes ago:
I think Old Salt might be the only one to get a kick out of it…here goes: my buddy wrote:
    ———————————————————-
    “Drafting Guys over 60—-

    (written by a Former Serviceman)

New Directive for any war: Send Service Vets over 60!

I am over 60 and the Armed Forces thinks I’m too old to track down terrorists. You can’t be older than 42 to join the military. They’ve got the whole thing ass-backwards. Instead of sending 18-year olds off to fight, they ought to take us old guys. You shouldn’t be able to join a military unit until you’re at least 35.

For starters: Researchers say 18-year-olds think about sex every 10 seconds. Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a day, leaving us more than 28,000 additional seconds per day to concentrate on the enemy.

Young guys haven’t lived long enough to be cranky, and a cranky soldier is a dangerous soldier. ‘My back hurts! I can’t sleep, I’m tired and hungry’ We are impatient and maybe letting us kill some asshole that desperately deserves it will make us feel better and shut us up for a while.

An 18-year-old doesn’t even like to get up before 10 a…m. Old guys always get up early to pee so what the hell. Besides, like I said, ‘I’m tired and can’t sleep and since I’m already up, I may as well be up killing some fanatical son-of-a-bitch….

If captured we couldn’t spill the beans because we’d forget where we put them. In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real brainteaser.

Boot camp would be easier for old guys. We’re used to getting screamed and yelled at and we’re used to soft food. We’ve also developed an appreciation for guns. We’ve been using them for years as an excuse to get out of the house, away from the screaming and yelling.

They could lighten up on the obstacle course however. I’ve been in combat and didn’t see a single 20-foot wall with rope hanging over the side, nor did I ever do any pushups after completing basic training.

Actually, the running part is kind of a waste of energy, too. I’ve never seen anyone outrun a bullet.

An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him. He’s still learning to shave, to start up a conversation with a pretty girl. He still hasn’t figured out that a baseball cap has a brim to shade his eyes, not the back of his head.

These are all great reasons to keep our kids at home to learn a little more about life before sending them off into harm’s way..

Let us old guys track down those dirty rotten coward terrorists. The last thing an enemy would want to see is a couple of million pissed off old farts with attitudes and automatic weapons who know that their best years are already behind them.

***How about recruiting Women over 50 …with PMS !!!

You think Men have attitudes !!! Ohhhhhhhhhhhh my God!!! If nothing else, put them on border patrol…. they will have it secured the first night!

Share this with your senior friends. It’s purposely in big type so they can read it.

  58. To CW & everyone:

    ANOTHER VICTORY!!!!!

  59. “Mr = My” Oops.

  60. Now I am finding out that my high schooler may be subjected to this??

Why is it important to listen to our elected officials like the mayor and president?

Answer: To play spot the lies?

  61. Infact, all the schools in the district won’t participate! Power to the People!

  62. what’s with the ‘your comment is awaiting moderation’ tag to mine?!

  63. Patriot Dreamer…………………..
Regarding the person whso finger was bitten off. I guess that will teach him not to go around poking his finger in people’s faces, or in their mouth. I am a pretty aggressive person. Had such a nitwit jammed his finger in my face I would heve bitten it off then JAMMED IT DOWN HIS THROATthen to get it back they would have to pump his GUT. I would bet that he would never jam another finger in anyone elses face.

Flashback to 1991: As Barack Obama prepares a nationwide broadcast to America’s students next Tuesday, it has been revealed that Democrats complained in 1991 when then President George H. W. Bush (41) broadcast a speech from a Northwest Washington junior high school.

In fact, the House Majority leader at the time, Dick Gephardt (D-Mo.), said “The Department of Education should not be producing paid political advertising for the president, it should be helping us to produce smarter students.”

The Democratic critics accused Bush of turning government money for education to his own political use, namely, an ongoing effort to inoculate himself against their charges of inattention to domestic issues. The speech at Alice Deal Junior High School, broadcast live on radio and television, urged students to study hard, avoid drugs and turn in troublemakers.

  70. I think this is a great idea for those who have kids in classes showing this propaganda speech:

Have your kids go to the class. During the speach, have them say “Ya Vol, Mein fuhrer!” every time Soetoro instructs the kids to do something in his propaganda brigade.

That’ll get the attention of the class and the teacher. Sure they’ll be sent to the office, but hey, that’s why we have voices.

That’s what I would do if I were watching one of these videos as a kid.

  71. CW…………………………………
Inasmuch that PRAYER is banned from the classroom so should politician’s attempts to control the minds of our children, grandchildren, or great grandchildren, etc. You are the legal guardian of your child, and you have the right to reject whatever you deem to be offensive to your children, and to protect them from being forced to view potentially damaging content, by any public school, principal,or teacher.

  72. FINGER is GONE?

Just heard on RUSH that the Biter was an ObaMugabee Supporter and teh elderly man that had his finger bitten off was a CONSTITUIONALIST Protester.

The ObaMORON was the instigator who went across the street and satrted the whole thing.

This accoridng to an Eyewitness and the LA Times had the story wrong.

  78. Obama’s agenda is to indoctrinate the kids and persuade them he is to be admired and trusted. Next he will have them saying the pledge of allegiance to the “office of the Presidency” instead of the United States of America.
    hat tip: callirose

  79. My son starts school on Tuesday (high school); I start on Wednesday (thank goodness). To prepare for this ‘learning/teaching moment’ with BO, I have armed him with the facts. (For example, you know that video with all the stars making statements that begin with, “I promise…”? They talk about how they will volunteer to help their fellow citizens, or conserve energy. I taught my son that as a percentage of total income, the Obama’s contributed about 1% to charity; the Clintons, about 25%; and that instead of turning down the thermostat in the WH and wearing a sweater, BO turned up the heat and walked around in shirt sleeves.) Being one of the few black students in a sea of liberal white – where we live, it is preferable to be a racist than to be perceived as one – he deserved his voice to be heard, too. (I am white; most of my students are black. But we have both been swimming against the tide for more than a year now.)

  80. I know it’s not Sunday…but I found it quite interesting what was in my ‘daily reading’ from the Scriptures today…and so I’ll post them here:
    ———————————————————–
Ecckesiastes 4:13-16: “It is better to be a poor but wise youth than to be an old foolish king who refuses all advice. Such a lad could come from prison and succeed. He might even become king, though born in poverty. Everyone is eager to help a youth like that, even to help him usurp the throne. He can become the leader of millions of people, and be very popular. But, then, the younger generation grows up around him and rejects him! So again, it is all foolishness, chasing the wind.”
    ———————————————————
sound like anything, or anyone you know?

  81. typo: “Ecclesiastes”…sorry…no ‘sticky key’ excuse here. re-do.

  82. What they need to be teaching the children is ” what is a natural born citizen” I know I was taught it takes two American Parents on American soil, or if at a time of war, other area’s. Soon I will find out what they are teaching the students. On another note, I will be going to support a congressman where OFA will be to harrass him, nobody better bite my fingers either, or there will be trouble in Michigan.

  83. Obama and Ayers worked together on the Chicago Annenberg Challenge for 5 years on how to brainwash youth into being socialists.

Ayers said, “Give me your children. Bring the revolution home, kill your parents! Yeah that’s where it’s at!”

  84. Notice Obama’s list of PLEDGES does not include one to the United STATES!?
Obama is not even solely a US citizen, he refuses to revoke his other citizenships, thus he cannot pledge allegiance to the US, and he doesn’t want children to, either.

  85. KIM………………………
In that case I would have gotten ahold of the biter’s hand ,bit off his finger, and still done as I said before. Jam it down his damn throat. I am sorry for the good guy,and hope that it can successfully be re attached. The biter is with out a doubt a MORON OBOT. That is the only way those morons know how to fight. LIKE CHILDREN.He would deserve what ever he gets. By the way such an act is legally felony battery. Good for 1-5 in state lockup. But the person whose finger was bitten off could have done the same thing to his assailant LEGALLY in self defense. At least in Indiana where I reside.

  86. *** New Post ***
I dug deep into my archives.
I wanted this to be a comprehensive article about Obama’s radical education agenda.
It is filled with hard facts.
    Educate the educators.
Remind them history does repeat itself if we do not pay attention.

  87. Food for Thought. One of the questions I would ask District Administrators is: “When was this program developed by the Secretary of Education, and when was it added to the District Curriculum developed by the Superintendent for Instruction?” Another question I would ask is: “Does this program developed by the Secretary of Education supersede or cancel out other curriculum developed for the first week of school and if so, why?” A third question: “Will my child be penalized [with a truancy] if I keep him/her out of school on the day this video is shown in school?”

    Gotta go…catch you all later.

  88. CW: good timing…was already able to send the new thread info to some teachers I know; I hope they ‘get it’ in time to make an informed choice.

Okay…onto the new one; no comments posted yet, at the time of this one…see ya on the flip side!

    Peace.

  89. Hi Ms. Helga and PRWH Peter,
