Every single person I have discussed this with has responded with incredulity about the wisdom of sending troops to be exposed to Ebola. Especially since Ebola can be transmitted so long after being exposed to it.

Hieb added, “If they’re going to use the troops to do population control, which is one of the ways you contain it, basically you just don’t let anybody out. You’d make a ring around where it is, and you’d quarantine the area.”
With quarantines in places where the outbreaks are occurring, even if a person infected with Ebola were to try to board a plane to the U.S., it would be far more difficult for them to make the journey, she explained.
“Could somebody sneak through by going to Pakistan or some place?” she asked. “Yes, potentially. Ebola comes on so rapidly, you would know it. They wouldn’t make it. We should not allow flights from nations that are having Ebola outbreaks.”
Dr. Jane Orient, executive director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, has warned that the U.S. must “treat Ebola as a wake-up call.”
“What African troops are doing is shooting people who cross borders or violate quarantine,” Orient told WND, reacting to news of the U.S. troop deployment. “Is that what we plan to support?””

I see some of your points re. Scotland but read somewhere that those who wanted independence from the UK would really have their country become more liberal and more of a welfare state than England. Who’s to say that it wouldn’t also become more of a haven for Muslims after independence? Those are factors that have to be considered. Another thing, they lowered the voting age to 16 before this election. I guess, however, that they showed a measure of discernment and didn’t just vote haphazardly, to the surprise of many. I’m probably an old foggy, but sixteen year olds aren’t even dry behind the ears. Just thoughts.

They would have to establish a tax code based upon their entire commercial,and industrial complex,and I personally believe that such a tax base would have to be substantially higher than it is now as a member of the UK. After all they need to establish a defensive military force of their own which would be paid for out of taxation. Then they need to advertise the world over for industries to relocate in Scotland(perfect situation for US industries who are trying to escape the world’s highest corporate taxes) I believe that this could easily happen,particularly when I take a look at the 20 year guarantee of level taxation that Apple received from Ireland. I believe that Scotland has a lot to offer US corporations,just as did Ireland. Re the Scottish Referendum: I find it hard to believe the final vote was 54% to 46% in favor of the union. My sympathies lie with the YES voters, and I suspect the vote was closer and there may have been a bit of manipulation of the votes to quell any demands for a recount. I knew it would be a tight race, and also felt it might stay united, but with a narrower margin. Scotland is no longer full of Scots….lots immigrated elsewhere (my family for one). Many English now live in Scotland, and there is now LOTS of ethnic diversity which was never a given before. Perhaps if this vote had been held in the early1950’s before population shifts, and the mass migration of Brits to foreign parts after WWII that even tho’ Britain was still recovering from the privations of the war, the YES votes may have won. But people were not of that mind set at the time and stretched to their limit just trying to rebuild normal lives. A lot of countries whose citizens were under British rule still in the early 50’s, flooded into Britain prior to losing their British citizenship before their home countries were given back to their own rule and British citizenship was revoked. As the years pass, and populations continue to shift, I think this was Scotland’s last chance to be autonomous. As for 16 year olds voting, this didn’t concern me as kids are out of school and working by that age (if they can find a job) if they don’t go on to higher education. My brother was working full time at Western Union when he was 14-l/2 in Scotland. My father, granted he was born in 1900, was working full time at age 12, which was the norm then.

This morning with my Irish coffee in my hand, I paused to wonder how our forefathers would have reacted if they had been given the right to vote their way out from under control by England in 1776?

What you have told us herein is almost word for word of what a distant member of the Murray klan told my wife a few years back. My wife’s roots trace back to the Murrays as well. When it comes to using the military to fight Ebola, I think it is the most asinine idea yet. Too bad that Congress is taking another long recess (Oh, well, maybe it doesn’t make any real difference), because they need to be doing something about this.
I too strongly suspect that Soetoro is again trying to decimate the military, and bringing this disease back home wouldn’t hurt either, as far as he is concerned. This is as wicked as you can get. Also, the troops will not be under the DOD but the State Dept. Since when does that happen?
Our young people are not going to know how to handle this environment. They can’t wear the protective gear 24/7, and one wrong move or bit of carelessness could cost them their lives and those of their families. I wish our servicemen would revolt en masse and refuse to go.

Another thing to watch are the efforts now being made to produce a vaccine. With elections looming, I am wondering how this is all going to play out. I can sense the fear in the dems over losing the senate, and control of DC, and if they lose the white house it will really become intense.
