“Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.”…George Orwell, “1984″

From the US Labor Dept may 16, 2013.

n the week ending May 11, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 360,000, an increase of 32,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 328,000. The 4-week moving average was 339,250, an increase of 1,250 from the previous week’s revised average of 338,000.

From Citizen Wells May 10, 2013.

“The US Labor Department BLS, Bureau of Labor Statistics, came out with 2 reports in May with their jobs and unemployment data. BLS reports on jobs and unemployment have long been suspect. A recent ADP report on private sector jobs added did not mesh well with the government reports.

The two BLS reports do not mesh well either.

From the BLS May 3, 2013.

“The change in total nonfarm payroll employment for February was
revised from +268,000 to +332,000, and the change for March was
revised from +88,000 to +138,000. With these revisions, employment
gains in February and March combined were 114,000 higher than
previously reported.”

From the BLS May 7, 2013.

“Job Openings and Labor Turnover Summary”

Table A. Job openings, hires, and total separations by industry, seasonally adjusted
| Job openings              | Hires                            | Total separations
| Mar. | Feb. | Mar.     | Mar. | Feb.   | Mar. |    Mar. | Feb.   | Mar.
| 2012 | 2013 | 2013p| 2012 | 2013 | 2013p| 2012 | 2013 | 2013p

|3,848 |3,899 |3,844 |4,435 |4,451 |4,259 |4,180 |4,180 |4,213
“Net Change in Employment

Large numbers of hires and separations occur every month throughout the business cycle. Net employment change results from the relationship between hires and separations. When the number of hires exceeds the number of separations, employment rises, even if the hires level is steady or declining.
Conversely, when the number of hires is less than the number of separations, employment declines, even if the hires level is steady or rising. Over the 12 months ending in March 2013, hires totaled 51.8 million and separations totaled 50.1 million, yielding a net employment gain of 1.7 million. These figures include workers who may have been hired and separated more than once during the year.”

The “p” stands for preliminary (decoder ring setting smoke & mirrors).

Using the BLS rules outlined above, the following calculations should yield the employment gains by month.

Feb 2013 hires                4,451,000

Feb 2013 separations   4,180,000

Feb job gains              271,000

Mar 2013 hires                4,259,000

Mar 2013 separations   4,213,000

Feb job gains                46,000

From the BLS above:

“The change in total nonfarm payroll employment for February was
revised from +268,000 to +332,000, and the change for March was
revised from +88,000 to +138,000.”

Isn’t this what Orwell warned us about?”

As long as potential employers who are operating small businesses are kept in the dark regarding the CRAPOLA that the US government is trying to ram down their throats it is UNLIKELY that there will ever be any substantial turnaround in American business. When the small business man NO LONGER CONTROLS HIS OWN BUSINESS it is not long before he decides to get out of business and let the government pay his laid off employees unemployment compensation. The problem is not going to improve in the forseeable future either. So much for “A CHICKEN IN EVERY POT”, at home in UTOPIA.

Yes, you read that right: The MSNBC host who in 2008 felt a “thrill going up my leg” after hearing Obama speak has grown disenchanted. Tonight’s episode of Hardball saw Matthews delivering a rare, unforgiving grilling of the president as severe as anything that might appear on Fox News.”

    Thanks GORDO.

“HH: The idea that this might be a Geithner-Axelrod plan, and by that, the sort of intimation, Henry II style, will no one rid me of this turbulent priest, will no one rid me of these turbulent Tea Parties, that might have just been a hint, a shift of an eyebrow, a change in the tone of voice. That’s going to take a long time to get to. I don’t trust the Department of Justice on this. Do you, Congressman Nunes?

DN: No, I absolutely do not, especially after this wiretapping incident, essentially, of the House of Representative. I don’t think people are focusing on the right thing when they talk about going after the AP reporters. The big problem that I see is that they actually tapped right where I’m sitting right now, the Cloak Room.

HH: Wait a minute, this is news to me.

DN: The Cloak Room in the House of Representatives.

HH: I have no idea what you’re talking about.

DN: So when they went after the AP reporters, right? Went after all of their phone records, they went after the phone records, including right up here in the House Gallery, right up from where I’m sitting right now. So you have a real separation of powers issue that did this really rise to the level that you would have to get phone records that would, that would most likely include members of Congress, because as you know…

    HH: Wow.

DN: …members of Congress talk to the press all the time.

HH: I did not know that, and that is a stunner.

DN: Now that is a separation of powers issue here, Hugh.

    HH: Sure.

DN: And it’s a freedom of press issue. And now you’ve got the IRS going after people. So these things are starting to cascade one upon the other, and you have the White House pretending like they’re in the clouds like it’s not their issue somehow.”

    “May 2013 Business Outlook Survey

Manufacturing firms responding to the monthly Business Outlook Survey suggest that regional manufacturing activity weakened this month. All of the survey’s broadest current indicators were negative this month, indicating weaker conditions compared with April. The survey’s indicators of future activity improved, however, and suggest that firms expect overall growth over the next six months.

    Indicators Suggest Weakening

The survey’s broadest measure of manufacturing conditions, the diffusion index of current activity, decreased from 1.3 in April to -5.2 this month. The current activity index has shown no pattern of sustained growth over the past seven months, generally alternating between positive and negative readings (see Chart). The number of firms reporting decreased activity this month (29 percent) edged out those reporting increased activity (24 percent).

Other current indicators showed similar weakness this month. The demand for manufactured goods remained weak, with the current new orders index declining from -1.0 to -7.9. The shipments index also indicated weakness, decreasing more sharply from 9.1 to -8.5. Firms reported a notable increase in inventories this month: The current inventories index increased from -22.2 to 4.1.

Labor market conditions showed continued weakness, with indexes suggesting lower employment overall. The employment index decreased 2 points to -8.7, its second consecutive negative reading. The percentage of firms reporting employment decreases (22 percent) exceeded the percentage reporting increases (14 percent). The workweek index declined 10 points to -12.4, remaining negative for the fifth consecutive month.”

    “The Mainstream Media Obama Psychodrama”

“Do not underestimate the psychological shock currently being processed by many members of the mainstream media and the low-to-medium information voters who rely on them for political analysis. To them, the election and re-election of Barack Obama, the first African American to hold the office of President of the United States, was a cause, a fulfillment of heartfelt dreams.

With his Ivy League pedigree and ability to deliver a speech, Obama charmed the liberal media folk into believing that he was the one they had been waiting for, an inspiring black man on a white horse who could heal our lingering racial wounds, if only given the chance. …

If enough members of the media see the light and join in the discovery of all the deceptions proffered over the last few years, we may see the partisan divide actually diminish, as common revulsion at the dishonesty and abuses brings people together. In a way that he never anticipated, Barack Obama finally may become what he promised to be: a uniter not a divider.”

I am absolutely convinced that Obama didn’t know about the Inspector General’s report and investigation beforehand! Because had Obama known about the investigation and the report, he would have fired, murdered, threatened, or otherwise the forced IG to make it go away!!!!!

  27. PETE….

You must remember that BOZO is an EXPERT LIER……..Any time OBAMA says something, I always think he really means the opposite..

At least that’s the way it appears to me….I cannot recall a single incident where he has told the truth about anything.

But that statement he made reference him not knowing about the IG report…I’m sure VALERIE JARRETT briefly told him about it, then said, “don’t worry about it BO, I will handle it”…just like she handles everything else that goes wrong at the White House.

I remember when JARRETT said after the second election, “If your not with us, you are against us…and after the election, there will be HELL to pay….are we in that PAYBACK stage of her comments now?……..I personally think so !

There should be no doubt in anyone’s mind as to who is calling the shots in the White House, and it isn’t OBAMA….he is the “pResident in Name Only”…our government is being run by an IRANIAN answering to the money man,the King of SAUDI Arabia……..this is pretty obvious.

Well to everyone but the blind press and the dumb Congress……..

  28. The IRS?….Now for the REAL TRUTH

It’s about a union: the National Treasury Employees Union. The NTEU. A left-wing union representing 150,000 employees in 31 separate government agencies, including the IRS. A union that not only endorsed President Obama for election and re-election, but a union whose current president, Colleen Kelly, was a 14-year IRS agent and now is both union president and Obama administration appointee

And the recently released report from the Treasury Inspector General? You will not find a single reference to the NTEU. Whose members are both player and referee in the exploding controversy over the IRS targeting of conservative groups.
Which raises the obvious question: how many NTEU members were involved in the writing of the Inspector General’s report?
Even more to the point, what contact — what coordination — has the Obama White House had with their allies in the NTEU leadership as both the White House and the NTEU race to get on top of a scandal that is rapidly engulfing both?
Did I mention that the NTEU has no comment on all of this? And that when President Obama went in front of cameras to make his statement on the IRS scandal — he never once mentioned his very powerful union buddies that have the run of the IRS? Right down to the control of who gets a Blackberry? Literally.
Let’s first see how the IRS/NTEU game with the Tea Party and conservatives is played, shall we?
In the 2012 election cycle, the IRS union gave its money this way:
    For the U.S. Senate:
    Total to Democrats: $156,750
    Total to Republicans: $1,000
    For the U.S. House:
    Total to Democrats: $391,062
    Total to Republicans: $23,000
And the candidates on the receiving end of those IRS employee dollars? Yes indeed. They were candidates who were running flat out against the Tea Party, depicting Tea Party-supported candidates as dangerous, extremists, and crazies. Exhibiting exactly the anti-Tea Party antipathy on the campaign trail that has been revealed to be permeating the IRS.

IRS officials refused to grant tax exempt status to two pro-life organizations because of their position on the abortion issue, according to a non-profit law firm, which said that one group was pressured not to protest a pro-choice organization that endorsed President Obama during the last election.

“In one case, the IRS withheld approval of an application for tax exempt status for Coalition for Life of Iowa. In a phone call to Coalition for Life of Iowa leaders on June 6, 2009, the IRS agent ‘Ms. Richards’ told the group to send a letter to the IRS with the entire board’s signatures stating that, under perjury of the law, they do not picket/protest or organize groups to picket or protest outside of Planned Parenthood,” the Thomas More Society announced today. “Once the IRS received this letter, their application would be approved.”
Lord,… I’m a patient man, but please tell me when this plague will leave our shores?

  30. RMinNC, is there a link to your post re the treasury dept. union involvement? Excellent info and I would like to pass that along. May I C&P it if there is no link? Thanks!

I spent the better part of an hour speaking to Brooke Paige this afternoon (VT Supreme Court case).
    Interesting conversation.
    Will report soon.

  41. I.B.,

    I disagree,

Of course we know that Jay Carney is a Democrat and liberal. However, I am a very good reader of peoples persona and behavior. Jay Carney (to me) accepted the job as a Prestigious position for his career. In my opinion, Jay Carney had no earthly Idea at the time that he would be used as a whore, kept out in the dark of the Obama/Val Jerrett ambitions. It’s on a need to know basis and Jay Carney is a very, very small person to them.

I am fairly confident that Jay Carney, after continuous embarrassment of unexpected media questions, he truly does not know what is going on other than what he is told to repeat, most likely from Val Jarrett. He struggles with words to answer questions, most likely because he has not been informed. Again, kept in the need to know dark, and repeat what we tell you.

He knows he is being played as the fool, and struggling with it.

  42. Air Force Brat!

Seems Obama is (in his mind) sticking it to whitey, whom he hates as much as, if not more than, he hates America. Not sure if he pulls the same crap with black military personnel. He may. I just haven’t seen any photos of it as yet.

Perhaps he’s heard of Caligula and his fate. Perhaps not. The Pretorian Guards were the equivalent of today’s Marines. Not real smart to piss off the CIA, and certainly not the Marines.

Not expressing a desire, just an observation.

  43. IB,
When O ordered the Marines to provide umbrella cover today, I could hardly believe it and agree that it was absolutely beyond the pale for all of
them to stay out in the rain. He is such a cad, to put it mildly.

Wow, the liberal Shep Smith of Fox News has been hammering O re. the way O “answered” the question if he had known about IRS discrimination before last Friday. O didn’t really answer a simple, direct question at all. Instead he carefully couched his words and answered that he did NOT know about the IG report. That would have been an unacceptable answer in a court of law, as Judge Napolitano pointed out. Judge Nap commented strongly that O is very “smart”, as he knew how to phrase his answer to avoid being accused of lying. Hmmm……..Anything new?

  44. I.B.,

Of course you know I’m not making excuses for him. Rather saying Jay Carney is a very little person to Obama and Val Jerrett. But he is in so deep now in doo-doo, quitting is not an option. That’s what progressive regression is all about. He never seen it coming to the depth its currently sitting.

    My opinion of course.

  45. Agreed,

If anyone that happens to be a White President, had to Marines that were Black holding an Umbrella for them, would be called Racists. No Doubt.

I remember back in my early College days and in the AROTC program, my SGT. Major was from the 82nd Airborne unit. He use to call me Billybo. A very wise and experienced Vet. I will never forget his lessons, not only from the military perspective, but also the same lessons I’ve applied in my personal life and professional work.

He told me, Billybo, you need to learn your 6 military P’s. Always use them. They are:

Perhaps the Republicans should have learned that and exposed Obama and this entire fraud, before it happened. But they were cowards…

  51. I have heard that a few time in my younger life too William…….I always tried to prevent what could happen if you forget the 6P’s……..

    In combat…it can be DEADLY……….In politics, it’s routine !

  52. Sometimes we need a break,

This weekend when I get back home to Tennessee and see my family, I am planning on a BBQ. I will make anything additional all my friends wish here at CW. Just name it. I will be thinking of all of you. I am also going to open my pool. I am going to have a few drinks (maybe more) and put on some Jimmy Buffet music.

Time to relax for a brief moment.

  53. OK William….how about a few mint julips made with Mr. Lem Mottlow’s favorite….you being from Tennessee, I’m sure you know the brand…….preferably Old #7.

  54. Having said that,

Good night my friends, time for me to pack and get ready to leave the apartment after work tomorrow.

  55. RMinNC,

Yep, I can do that for you.

I am not surprised you knew about Lem Mottlow, but many here may not be familiar with its Tennessee history. Everyone tends to know that Jack Daniels is Tennessee Whiskey, but don’t relate with Mottlow.

  56. Great thead today.

Thank you, Citizen Wells. Great Article

  57. William,

My husband rarely drank, but when he did it was Jack Daniels only. Have one for him. Enjoy your family and have a wonderful weekend!

  58. Have a safe trip, William…wish all of us here could join you in your family barbecue. Thank you for asking.

A lot has been said and written, but this should help break the case…

  59. oldsailor80

Tennessee Whiskey must be really great, the late George Jones used to sing about Tennessee Whiskey. HAR HAR.

  60. oldsailor80

…..actually George Jones not only sang about Tennessee whiskey he also ingested it by the gallon. In fact he needed it to such a degree that he once rode a lawn tractor into town just to get more Tennessee whiskey. He rode the lawn tractor because all of the car keys had been taken away from him.

  61. oldsailor80

Here is one for everybody to think about ….IN EARNEST! If you have one of the Medicare Advantage health care plans you might find yourself being advised by the administrator that you will NOT BE COVERED if you fall anywhere at home, and receive injury requiring either ER services,or subsequent surgury because of the fall, you need to file your claim with your PROPERTY INSURANCE CARRIER. He is a THIRD PARTY entity, therefore he is liable for covering the medical cost of your injuries. Yet your “Disadvantage” plan perpetrator will in the same breath remind you that irregardless whether they pay anything or not you are still liable to make your monthly insurance payment. Remember Al Capone………..protection was something which he used to peddle upon Chicago businesses. He was once asked what he was protecting the businesses from, and his response was…….ME. He would then demonstrate by shooting up somebody’s storefront…….which he called INCENTIVE.

  62. … “That “culture of discrimination” could well have its roots in IRS functionaries taking their cues from Mr. Obama, who in October 2010 encouraged one group of allies to “punish our enemies.”…
