Unemployment May 4, 2012, Unemployment claims revised upward, 4 week moving average 383500, April private sector jobs plummeted, Real unemployment rate?
“Guilford (Large NC County) appears on it’s way to a third consecutive year with annual jobless rates in double digits. Economists say that likely hasn’t happened since the Great Depression.”…Greensboro News Record December 2, 2011
“the Times of the nineteenth of December had published the official forecasts of the output of various classes of consumption goods in the fourth quarter of 1983, which was also the sixth quarter of the Ninth Three-Year Plan. Today’s issue contained a statement of the actual output, from which it appeared that the forecasts were in every instance grossly wrong. Winston’s job was to rectify the original figures by making them agree with the later ones.”…George Orwell, “1984”
“And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed
–if all records told the same tale–then the lie passed into
history and became truth. “Who controls the past,” ran the
Party slogan, “controls the future: who controls the present
controls the past.”…George Orwell, “1984″
The stated unemployment rate is 8.1%.
What is the real unemployment rate?
Further analysis of this is forthcoming.
Here is what we know:
Unemployment claims get reported and then revised upward. The recent report was changed to 392,000 from the prior week’s reported 388,000.
The 4 week moving average has gone up the past several weeks. It is now 383,500.
Private sector employment increased by 119,000 jobs in April instead of the forecasted 170,000.
Many individuals, discouraged by the dismal jobs picture, have left the job market.
What ever the stated unemployment rate is, the real unemployment rate is significantly higher.
High school and college graduates, about to enter the full time job market, face dismal prospects. Though they have been counted by the Labor Department (I just verified this), they will still add millions to those seeking full time employment.
“Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and his fellow policymakers at the central bank have expressed worry that the employment picture ahead is likely to be weak”…CNBC May 2, 2012.
Rush Limbaugh continues to state that the unemployment rate will be manipulated to benefit Obama. Anything over 8 % is considered lethal to his reelection.
Wait for the spin folks!
CW,
Heard the unions were mad at the democrats for holding their convention in North Carolina, because NC is not a union friendly state.
Why did the democrats pick NC? What’s the word from NC?
bob.
Best guess.
NC is a crucial state for Obama.
He barely stole the election here in 2008.
BTW, NC is the 10th most populous state.
Mike.
The biggest Orwellian spin is adding jobs.
We are netting negative jobs.
CW, thanks, I didn’t know that about the population of NC. It makes sense now why the dems are there.
I wonder if they wished they had picked another state to hold their convention?
Cindy Simpson:
“Rubio and Birthright Citizenship”
“Those conservatives who argue against “birthright citizenship” have just been thrown under the same bus as the “birthers” — whether or not they like it, or the GOP admits it.
The mainstream media, longtime foes against reform of the anchor baby practice, have been happy to help. And instead of quietly watching while a sizeable portion of the Republican party is run over, as in the case of the “birthers,” we now have the GOP establishment lending the media a hand in brushing aside many immigration reform advocates — by pushing the selection of Senator Marco Rubio for the VP nomination.
…
Fast-forward to today, and the GOP’s realization (thanks to those darned “birthers”!) that neither of VP favorite pick Rubio’s parents were citizens when he was born.
So now the mainstream and GOP establishment argument is that born in the USA (regardless of circumstances) equals “born a citizen” equals “natural born” citizen.”

http://www.americanthinker.com/2011/07/the_good_news_rubios_eligible.html
Conservatives are right to be deeply committed to constitutionalism and to test all government actions against the plumb line of that great charter of liberty.
The good news for us is that Sen. Marco Rubio is eligible to be elected president in 2012. And so are Bobby Jindal and Nikki Haley. There’s been a lot of attention devoted to the original meaning of “natural born citizen of the United States,” the governing phrase from Art. II, Sec. 1 of the Constitution. Happily, The Heritage Guide to the Constitution resolves this question for us.
Now, consider Marco Rubio. His parents were resident aliens when he was born in 1971, seeking and soon to receive their status as naturalized U.S. citizens. Under the Fourteenth Amendment, “all persons born…in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the states wherein they reside.” This “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” clause shows why Rubio is — and, very likely, why children of illegal aliens are not — a “natural born citizen of the United States.”
We should be very careful in discussions of the Constitution to avoid the impression that we are an anti-immigrant party. To say that Rubio, Jindal, and Haley are forever barred because of a strained interpretation of the Constitution’s eligibility clause would condemn conservatism to minority status for the foreseeable future. Surely, that is not what we want.
Let’s remember Ronald Reagan’s beautiful Farewell Address. He spoke of Vietnamese Boat People in the South China Sea.
… the sailor was hard at work on the carrier Midway, which was patrolling the South China Sea. The sailor, like most American servicemen, was young, smart, and fiercely observant. The crew spied on the horizon a leaky little boat. And crammed inside were refugees from Indochina hoping to get to America. The Midway sent a small launch to bring them to the ship and safety. As the refugees made their way through the choppy seas, one spied the sailor on deck, and stood up, and called out to him. He yelled, “Hello, American sailor. Hello, freedom man.”
Today, Marco Rubio is a freedom man. So are Bobby Jindal and Nikki Haley a freedom man and woman. We should be proud to have any of these children of exiles as our president.

Ted Turner: Romney Would Make Good President
The Good News: Rubio’s Eligible
By Chet Arthur
http://www.americanthinker.com/2011/07/the_good_news_rubios_eligible.html#ixzz1tuhPhHV8
===========
Chet Arthur = Chester Arthur
===========
“Attorney Mario Apuzzo: All presidents born after 1787, except for Chester Arthur and Barack Obama, met the “natural born Citizen” criteria.”
“The only exception to all this is Chester Arthur. Chester Arthur (1881-1885), was born on October 5, 1829 in Fairfield, Vermont. His father, William Arthur, when eighteen years of age, emigrated from Co. Antrim, Ireland. His father did not become a naturalized U.S. citizen until 14 years after Chester Arthur’s birth. Chester Arthur’s mother, Malvina Stone, was born April 29, 1802 in Berkshire, Franklin, Vermont. Hence, Chester Arthur was born to a father who was not a U.S. citizen at the time of his birth. Because the citizenship of the wife merged into that of the husband, this made Arthur born to an alien mother and father. He was therefore born with dual citizenship of the United Kingdom and the United States. It is believed that Chester Arthur lied numerous times about his past to hide the fact that when he was born his father was not a U.S. citizen and to therefore obfuscate his ineligibility to hold Vice-Presidential and Presidential office. What is most telling is that Chester Arthur also burned all personal records just prior to his death. …”

Here is video of Pat Buchanan on “The McLaughlin Group” this weekend where he said he does not think Sen. Marco Rubio will be Mitt Romney’s Vice-Presidential pick because when he is seen with Romney he looks “too young” and “too callow” to be “Vice-President of the United States.”
http://latino.foxnews.com/latino/politics/2012/05/03/republicans-plan-to-pitch-mitt-romney-to-latinos-with-door-to-door-campaign/
Republicans will be going puerta a puerta (door to door) to rally Latinos to turn out to vote – for Mitt Romney, specifically – in November, said Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee.
Priebus said that Republicans have ammunition in their arsenal this time that they did not have in 2008, when Barack Obama scored nearly 70 percent of Latino voters.
That arsenal includes high-profile Hispanic Republicans such as U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martínez, and Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval. And there’s Priebus’s longtime recipe – rooted in his political coming-of-age in his native Wisconsin – of pivoting campaigns on fundraising and grassroots outreach.

I doubt that Rubio, Jindal or Haley will be picked by Gov Romney as his VP, but the GOP will continue to play up the possibility because it helps win the immigrant vote.

FS, I think you’re spot on, here.
Even if these folks were not chosen, it throws out the possibility of a ‘child of immigrants’ being considered and that sticks with people, especially those who’ve come to America from somewhere else.
Personally, I don’t believe that any of them are eligible however, the *names* are being kicked around; I think it’s very likely intentional.
CitizenWells,
Hold on….I’m doing the math. Last year, 89 million americans filed federal income tax returns. Last month, 88 million Americans, between the ages of 20 and 65, were without jobs. Yep, I used my progressive/socialist/fascist calculator and came up with 8.1% unemployement…ROFLOL
The sad thing is that some people are STUPID enough to believe that the economy has now turned the corner and is going the right way!!!! I expect Wall Street will agree with the new data and economic recovery…..oh wait markets down 174 already. I guess not everyone is listening to how great Obama is.

Marco Rubio may not be the dream running mate for Mitt Romney that he has been made out to be. The results of a Public Policy Polling poll released Thursday indicate that with Rubio as a running mate, Romney would actually lose traction against President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.
If he picks Chris Christie, Rick Santorum, Mike Huckabee or Jeb Bush, however, he becomes a stronger candidate.

http://dailycaller.com/2012/05/04/obamas-deal-with-karzai-bans-raids-into-pakistan/
President Barack Obama has promised not to attack Pakistan-based al-Qaida leaders or fighters from bases inside Afghanistan.
The surprising commitment effectively bars Obama and his successors from launching another nighttime helicopter raid like the one that that killed Osama bin Laden. That raid has proven to be Obama’s primary foreign-policy success because it killed bin Laden, scooped up much intelligence data and shocked Pakistan.
Obama’s commitment will also end the use of secretive drone-attacks from Afghanistan. Those attacks have killed hundreds of al-Qaida leaders since the mid-2000s.

Exactly. Also Rubio and Haley help with the Tea Party, but oddly Rubio does not help with the Hispanic vote, so I seriously doubt that he will be chosen. Remember who Rubio said would be the best choice? It might be that in addition to helping with the immigrant and Tea Party vote, Rubio is being utilizing as a surrogate to later endorse Romney’s real choice for VP.
It is going to be Jeb Bush ….because mama Bush says so! Bet ya!

Politically speaking, that could be a very good strategy.
Yesterday I heard Bret Baier interview Gov. Bob McDonnell (Virginia) who has a very impressive record, including 21 years of military service. He has done quite an outstanding job in VA, including lowering spending without additional taxation and also reducing the unemployment rate considerably.
I understand that he is on Romney’s latest VP short list.
Obama is the Anti-Reagan when it comes to jobs and job participation. Look at the slopes of the curves during the administrations.

Unfortunately that stat which is much more telling than bo’s BS unemployment stat is not reported by the media and is not understood by the voters. As the AP has promised bo’s fictional unemployment rate will be under 8% by Nov.

Unfortunately the Job Participation stat which is much more telling than bo’s BS unemployment stat is not reported by the media and is not understood by the voters. As the AP has promised bo’s fictional unemployment rate will be under 8% by Nov. Hopefully, there will be enough intelligent voters who realize that bo has caused a major Economic Depression to defeat bo in Nov.
The unemployment rate in June when 50% or more of the College Grads can not find jobs will be more difficult for bo to deal with.
