Hurricane Irene and Earthquake, Washington’s Apocalypse This Time, King memorial dedication postponed, Congressman Goodlatte investigations?

From Time Aug. 26, 2011.

“The Storm After the Earthquake: Washington’s Apocalypse This Time”

“Washington is accustomed to turmoil (debt ceiling, health care reform, the occasional Supreme Court nomination) but rarely has a week here seemed so apocalyptic. First came Tuesday’s 5.8-magnitude earthquake, the first in more than a century, which cracked the Washington Monument’s top and sent the tip of one of the National Cathedral’s spires to the ground. Then, there were the aftershocks. Now comes Hurricane Irene.

The authorities expected Irene to arrive between North Carolina and the tidewater region of southern Virginia Friday night, with winds up to 110 miles-per-hour, before barreling up the Eastern Seaboard, toward Washington and New York, one of the continent’s most populous corridors. President Obama on Friday predicted the storm will be “extremely dangerous and costly,” and abruptly ended his family’s vacation on Martha’s Vineyard to return to the White House. In New York City, Mayor Michael Bloomberg ordered the evacuation of some 270,000 residents of low-lying neighborhoods, and ordered the city’s public transportation system closed Saturday. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie urged residents along the Atlantic Coast to flee. Back in Washington, where Mayor Vincent Gray had yet to decide whether to declare a state of emergency Friday afternoon, the officials postponed Sunday’s scheduled dedication of the memorial to Martin Luther King Jr.

The authorities predicted floods exceeding four feet in low-lying tidal areas, particularly in Virginia, and they expect the evacuation routes to many coastal areas of North Carolina to be cut off. Janet Napolitano, the homeland security secretary, said Friday that officials had issue this ominous warning: “The window of preparation is quickly closing.””

“This weekend was to be celebratory, attracting thousands of people from across the country for concerts and a King memorial dedication speech by President Obama on Sunday, the 48th anniversary of the March on Washington. Late Thursday, the King memorial’s organizers announced they would postpone the dedication until September, or October.”

“He may have geography and physics to back him up, a bit. Washington is relatively far inland, and sits along the Potomac River, not the Atlantic Ocean where the risk of a storm surge is much higher. But the authorities say the risk of severe flooding within capital city is minimal. The greater threat is of wind uprooting trees from soil saturated by weeks of heavy rain.

Nevertheless, even in the marbled capital of the mighty United States of America, nothing quite puts fear in man as much as an act of God — especially if you think you can see it coming.”

Does Obama see this coming?

Congressman Bob Goodlatte has stated that Barack Obama will be investigated if enough evidence surfaces.

“As you know, President Obama recently released to the public the long-form version of his birth certificate. Since then, concerns have been raised about the validity of the birth certificate as well as the claim that the President has been using a Social Security Number previously issued to another person. These concerns have been raised with the relevant oversight committees in the Congress and if there is enough evidence and more experts reach the same conclusions then these claims will lead to an investigation.”

We have the evidence.

    From The Weather Channel:

    Updated: Aug 27, 2011, 9:15 a.m. EDT

As Irene made landfall, the Carolina coast experienced extreme conditions with wind gusts up to 115 mph and rain totals up to 7.5 inches, with major reporting stations at Cape Hatteras and in Wilmington totaling more than 5.5 inches. Reports of storm surge have reached as much as 8.5 feet. Buoys off the North Carolina coast were reporting waves to near 20 feet as Irene made landfall near Cape Lookout at 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Irene’s fury is expected to deliver extremely destructive storm surges of 6-11 feet and torrential rains that could isolate the Outer Banks from the rest of the state. Strong winds will likely cause power outages.

A coastal town official in North Carolina said witnesses believed a tornado spawned by Irene lifted the roof off the warehouse of a car dealership in Belhaven on Friday night and damaged a mobile home, an outbuilding and trees. Roads and homes have reported flooding and a private pier in Atlantic Beach was damaged. Approximately 220,000 residents in North Carolina and Virginia are without power.

Irene’s path is expected to continue up the East Coast throughout the weekend.

The effects of Hurricane Irene begin to spread, with flooding in Norfolk, Va. as prolonged wind and rain pounds the Mid-Atlantic States on Saturday morning. A storm surge of 4 to 8 feet above ground level is forecast in the Lower Chesapeake and Del-Mar-Va regions. Flooding has been reported at the Monticello underpass in Nofolk.

That being said, this won’t simply be a threat along the coast. Damaging winds and flooding rain will be a huge concern for locations well inland, including Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and much of Pennsylvania. At least 220,000 residents of North Carolina and Virginia are already without power.

Good morning (if that is possible)……..Obviously you still have power, and all. Stay safe. We are praying for everyone on the East Coast. It could get really hairy for some folks. Have a good day!

  6. Thank you. I am in Md near the coast. We have had rain since early this morning. We have had some wind gusts but nothing significant yet. We just heard a little thunder. Other than our home of course I am hoping our little crape mrytle survives. Thank you for your prayers. Two a.m. is the witching hour for us.

  8. CW,

It was good to see that Irene was downgraded to a cat 1 hurricane before it reached NC, but it looks like there will major flooding and high winds up to 90 miles from the center. Hope you are far enough away that you don’t have any wind or water damage. May God bless you and your friends and neighbors.

  9. http://www.voanews.com/english/news/Perry-Surging-in-Republican-US-Presidential-Race-128488853.html

Perry’s rise to the top of the Gallup poll is no surprise to American University presidential historian Allan Lichtman.

“I think ultimately this is going to come down to a two-person race between Rick Perry, the governor of Texas, and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney,” said Lichtman.

Lichtman said the poll results suggest Perry appeals to both economic and social conservatives within the Republican Party.

“The Republican primary electorate is very conservative and Perry is more conservative than Romney. Perry probably has a better campaign style and, as we know, Romney’s Mormon religion has been a problem for the Republican evangelical Protestant base, which is a very significant portion of the Republican primary electorate. So Romney has got a lot to worry about,” said Lichtman.

  10. http://www.statesman.com/news/nation/with-perry-in-race-gop-voters-like-choices-1796539.html

An Associated Press-GfK poll released Friday found that Republicans and Republican-leaning independents are coming around to the choices already on the table: About two-thirds are pleased with the party’s presidential field, compared with just half in June.

The poll shows Perry, who had never run a national campaign and is just now introducing himself to most Americans, benefiting from heavy news coverage over the past few weeks as he became a candidate. Just 12 percent of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents have a negative impression of the Texas governor. And 63 percent of Republicans view him in a positive light, compared with 33 percent in June.

    CW,

You are correct, but I doubt that the Republicans will proceed with indictments of bo before he is re-nominated by the demRats. They don’t want to do anything that will give Hillary clear sailing to the demRat nomination. Furthermore any Federal indictments of bo would end up in DC where bo would be acquitted of all charges just as Mayor Marion Barry was.

bo’s endgame in the event of a Federal Indictment is to get himself tried in the bo controlled fed court in DC where Holder will get bo acquitted of all charges just like Holder got the musbro TERRORIST who murdered US Citizens acquitted. Once Holder gets bo acquitted then Double Jeopardy would apply and BHO could not be prosecuted again for his CRIMES.

No way a DC fed jury is going to convict their obamessiah. Remember Mayor Marion Barry who was acquitted by a DC jury even after they saw him buying crack cocaine and smoking it on camera.

Sheriff Joe has the right idea just get bo in local State County courts throughout the US. There is more than ample evidence to indict bo for

Murders and False Imprisonment of Opponents of the BO regime

    Birth Document Forgeries

TSA Sexual Assaults & Illegal Searches

    Union Assaults

    Election Fraud & Voter Fraud

    Identity Theft

Aiding and Abetting of Muslim Terrorists

Poisoning of the Gulf of Mexico

Theft of Private Property (Chrysler, GM, Pension and Retirement Accounts etc.)

    Embezzlement of Government funds.

The massive storm was expected to push out to sea again later Saturday and then head north toward New York, where the specter of an electrical shutdown was added to the list of potential consequences. The region prepared to face powerhouse winds that could drive a wall of water over the beaches of the Rockaway Peninsula and between the skyscrapers of Lower Manhattan.

  14. Officials said the central concern at the moment was the storm surge of such a large, slow-moving hurricane — the deluge to be dumped from the sky or thrown onto shore by violent waves moving like snapped blankets. “I would very much take this seriously,” Brian McNoldy, a research associate of the Department of Atmospheric Research at Colorado State University, said. “Don’t be concerned if it’s a Category 1, 2, 3, 4. If you’re on the coast, you don’t want to be there. Wind isn’t your problem.”

Mazie Swindell Smith, the county manager in Hyde County, N.C., which is expecting storm surge from the inland bay that abuts it, agreed. “The storm is moving more slowly than expected,” Ms. Smith said. “That’s not good as far as rainfall, because it will just sit here and dump rain.”

  15. How in the hell will bloomburglar be able to evacuate all those people. He won’t. Remember New Orleans? bloomburglar will go down in histroy as another ray nagin. It looks like bloomburglar has forsaken Long Island which will likely get the brunt of the storm.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/28/us/28hurricane-irene.html

With the first hurricane to make landfall in the continental United State since 2008, government officials issued evacuation orders for about 2.3 million people, according to The Associated Press — from 100,000 people in Delaware to 1 million people in New Jersey, where the governor, Chris Christie, told everyone to “Get the hell off the beach.” And in New York City, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg took the historic step of ordering the evacuation of several waterfront areas, including Manhattan’s Battery Park City.

Irene was projected to hug the coast throughout Saturday and make landfall again around midday on Sunday on Long Island, just east of New York City. That track gives the city a bit of a break, because the east side of a hurricane is more powerful than the west, though there might be storm surges of four to eight feet.

Consolidated Edison Co., the power company for about 3.3 million buildings, homes and businesses in the New York City area, could not estimate Saturday morning how many people the shutdown would affect. Alfonso Quiroz, a spokesman for the utility company, said it could move forward with pre-emptive shutdowns in all of the low-lying areas in the city, not just downtown Manhattan.

“Our engineers have to first see how high the water is coming in. Once we figure out about what the flooding levels are at, then we can make a decision on all low-lying areas,” he said.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg, at a news conference Saturday as rain began to fall on New York, said people in Lower Manhattan should expect to have their power turned off on Saturday.

  17. New York City has over 10 times the population that New Orleans had before Katrina. They are about to see how WORTHLESS bo and fema are.

  18. Remember the Superdome after Katrina. Remember the Rapes, Assaults and Murders? The “shelters” in NYC will make the Superdome look like the Ritz Carlton. The poor people of NYC are about to experience bo’s Hell on Earth. I just hope the msm gets off their asses and reports on the mayhem.

Eugene Pyatibratov, 37, who lives in the same neighborhood, said he and his wife had not decided whether to leave.

“I’m still thinking,” he said. “We have three kids and we don’t have anywhere to go. The only place to go is the shelters.”

  19. Just like nagin, bloomburglar failed to take heed of the threat of the Hurricane. Like nagin it is too late for bloomburglar to evacuate millions of people. Remember nagin only had to evacuate a few hundred thousand. Bloomburglar has millions to evacuate and he will not get the job done.

  20. A Crazy Old Coot

Governor Perry was sent by certified mail the official National Association for Gun Rights Presidential Candidate Survey to see where he stands on gun rights. His campaign people refused to go and sign for it. I want my guy to shout it from the rooftops…not mince around with focus groups and poll numbers. You either believe in your heart that our right to buy, own, keep and lawfully use a GUN is unalienable and irrefutable or you don’t. It’s that simple.

In a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Perry reiterated a claim he’s often leveled against the federal government: that it’s not doing enough to secure the border with Mexico and as a result, has allowed illegal immigrants to enter the U.S. and use taxpayer-funded resources, including the prison system.

“The longstanding failure of the federal government to secure our border with Mexico continues to burden local communities and resources in Texas,” Perry wrote. “Because there are not enough troops on the ground, illegal immigrants are able to penetrate the Texas border every day and use taxpayer-funded resources.”

  22. Pres. Oburglar cut his vaction one day short and is at a FEMA center overseeing Irene! The Passaic River in my area is gonna get flooded badly, even in the Paterson area where my relatives live at! It’s a bummer!

  23. 1. Storm surge

The single biggest effect New York City would see from a major hurricane is the storm surge. This is the term for water pushed toward the shore by high winds, and it can rise many feet above sea level and inundate entire neighborhoods. In the New England Hurricane of 1938, the storm surge from the East River flooded three blocks of Manhattan, even though the center of the hurricane was many miles away, pummeling eastern Long Island. The Norfolk and Long Island Hurricane of 1821 made landfall in the city itself — in Jamaica Bay, Queens — and the 13-foot surge inundated more than a mile of Manhattan from Battery Park to Canal Street.

Storm surges can be catastrophic even in the best-protected cities — just look at New Orleans when the levees failed

    2. Debris everywhere

Many of the effects of high winds on infrastructure are obvious: downed trees and other debris cluttering the streets, downed power lines cutting electricity to buildings and live wires creating hazards for pedestrians. But in a city like New York, hurricane-force winds could break windows en masse, “especially in the taller buildings that would bear the brunt of powerful gusts that occur at higher elevations,” The Wall Street Journal reported in 2010. In a worst-case scenario, this could become a scene out of an apocalyptic movie, in which “the canyons of Manhattan could magnify the winds and would be a deadly place for anyone caught beneath the raining glass.” And that’s not even considering the billions of dollars it would take to clean up the city afterward, and the long-term economic impact of those costs.

    3. Goodbye, subways

Every New Yorker has seen how messy subway stations get in heavy rain: dirty puddles form on the platforms, water streams from openings in the ceiling onto the tracks, and trains are frequently delayed. Now imagine even heavier rain, plus a storm surge that sent water from the rivers and harbors crashing into the stations through the stairwells, ceilings and tunnels. It would not even take a worst-case scenario to bring the entire New York City public transportation system to a standstill. In the short term, this would eliminate any chance of last-minute evacuations; in the long term, it could extend the economic damage of a hurricane even beyond when office buildings reopened. If the subways were flooded with salt water rather than just rainwater, the salt “would corrode the switches and cripple the system for months or years, and disable much of the communications infrastructure in Lower Manhattan,” The Wall Street Journal reported in 2010 based on an interview with Nicholas Coch, a coastal geology professor at Queens College.

    4. Economic paralysis

The area of New York most likely to be affected by a storm surge is also the area where the bulk of the city’s economic activity is centered. The Financial District, for example, could be inundated by storm surges from the East River, the Hudson River and the New York Harbor alike. The 1938 hurricane flooded all of Lower Manhattan south of Canal Street, but the damage was limited by the fact that the area was not highly built up at the time. Today, not only is it full of people who could be killed by a storm surge, but it is also the epicenter of the city, national, and international financial systems.

Residents don’t necessarily understand “how many days and weeks after a hurricane that their lives will be completely changed,” Scott Mandia, a physical sciences professor at Suffolk County Community College on Long Island, told National Geographic News in 2006. “People who live away from the water think a hurricane will mean one day away from work, then back to normal. There will be an economic shutdown for a few weeks, if not a month.” He was referring to the impact of a hurricane on Long Island, but the impact on the Financial District would be even worse. A big storm surge could paralyze that part of the city for weeks, depending on how severe the flooding was, how quickly the water receded and how much infrastructural damage it left behind, and the consequences of that would be far greater than just lost wages.

    5. Difficult to evacuate

If New York remains in Hurricane Irene’s path, officials would likely order the evacuation of the most vulnerable areas — that is, those most likely to be hit by the storm surge. But evacuations are difficult to carry out under the best of circumstances, both because many people are reluctant to leave their homes and because of traffic gridlock as thousands of people try to get out at once, and New York is far from the best of circumstances. The first problem is the sheer size of its population: evacuating more than eight million people on short notice is an impossible task. The second is the location: on an island, escape routes are inherently limited. Only so many vehicles can cross Manhattan’s bridges and tunnels at once, and in the event of a hurricane, one thing New York will not have is time.

In other words, in order to evacuate New York’s extremely dense population through a limited bridge and tunnel system, the evacuation would have to begin significantly earlier than it would in the Southeast or along the Gulf Coast, where populations are less dense and escape routes more plentiful.
But because of the difficulties in predicting when and where hurricanes will strike in the Northeast, New York most likely would not be able to begin an evacuation until later than the Southeast or Gulf Coast could. Even worse, because winds usually pick up well before the center of a hurricane hits, time to evacuate could be even more severely limited.

God bless you and yours, Shannon. Remember New Orleans. Stay away from the government shelters. They will be Hell on Earth and you can not count on bo and fema to help.

    OBAMA’S GREATEST FEAR…THE TRUTH
    by Robert Quinn

To date, no analyst has vouched for the authenticity of this image purported to be a certified copy of Obama’s birth certificate on file with the Hawaii Department of Health

(Aug. 25, 2011) — On September 14, 2011, inside a Hawaiian Federal Courthouse, Barack Obama’s transparency will be severely tested due to an historic event which took place on August 8. On that date, Dr. Orly Taitz, a steadfast attorney challenging Obama’s Presidential eligibility, previously had a court-ordered subpoena issued and served upon the Hawaiian Health Department director, Loretta Fuddy, ordering the production of their copy of Obama’s original “Certificate of Live Birth,” along with other pertinent documents for examination by competent authorities as to their authenticity. The Health Department ignored the subpoena. On August 8, Dr. Taitz met with Health Department officials, who refused to release any documents for viewing or analysis, citing “privacy” concerns. Dr. Taitz was now forced to seek the assistance of a Federal Court which has now ordered the Health Department and specifically, Ms. Fuddy, to appear in Court on September 14 to justify her ignoring of the subpoena. Northeastern cities, including Boston and New York

“These cities are at risk mainly because they have large populations that are not often affected by hurricanes,” Brennan said. Compounding this lack of preparedness is the fact that storms tend to move quite fast once they reach these areas.

“Storms start interacting with the jet stream,” Brennan said, “and they accelerate as they gain latitude” — that is, move northward. The 1938 hurricane that struck New York was a devastating example of this. “It was in North Carolina in the morning and in Long Island by the afternoon,” he said. [Could New York City Survive a Hurricane?]

This speed means that large metropolitan populations, relatively unaccustomed to hurricanes, need to start making plans and heading out of town while the skies are sunny.

“It’s hard to convince people to do that,” Brennan said.

On Thursday, the iconic Gibson Guitar Corporation issued a press release stating that government officials raided their Tennessee manufacturing facility over warrants concerning the legality of the importation of wood purchased from India that they use in their world famous guitars….
…….The fact that the government would issue warrants based on their interpretation of another country’s laws is laughable–and scary–in and of itself, but that they would demonize an American, non-unionized (coincidentally, I’m sure) company for something that isn’t even a crime (especially not in the American lawbooks) is a gross misjustice. Keep in

More on the growing concern over the New York mayor’s attitude to Rikers Island. At a press conference earlier, he breezily dismissed a reporter’s question about why the 17,000 prisoners on the island were not being evacuated, despite being in the evacuation zone.

There are 7 more Hurricanes predicted for the Atlantic this year. There is no doubt that bo’s INCOMPETENCE will be on full display.

  51. New Yorkers not conned by bo & bloomburglar’s BS!

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/aug/28/hurricane-irene-michael-bloomberg-evacuation

With only a few hours to go until darkness falls and hurricane-strength winds begin to gust over the city, Bloomberg said only 1,400 people had so far checked into evacuation centres, which have been set up to accommodate 70,000.

I thought I said that! rofl

The English language has some wonderfully anthropomorphic collective nouns for the various groups of animals.

We are all familiar with a Herd of cows, a Flock of chickens, a School of fish and a Gaggle of geese.

However, less widely known is a Pride of lions, a Murder of crows (as well as their cousins the rooks and ravens), an Exaltation of doves and,
presumably because they look so wise, a Parliament of owls.

Now consider a group of Baboons. They are the loudest, most dangerous, most obnoxious, most viciously aggressive and least intelligent of all primates. And what is the proper collective noun for a group of baboons? Believe it or not ……. a Congress!

I guess that pretty much explains the things that come out of Washington!

Infiltration of the federal government by members of the radical Muslim Brotherhood is worse than some have warned recently, says a former FBI special agent in Washington.

The agent confirmed that at least three operatives of the Egypt-based Brotherhood – whose credo is “Jihad is our way and death in the cause of Allah is our dream” – have penetrated the Obama administration.

The shocking charge was first leveled by Muslim reformer Tarek Fatah during a recent speech in Toronto.

“When someone says that there is penetration of jihadi Islamists within society, do not dismiss it as some right-wing, xenophobic, racist rant,” warned Fatah, a Canadian journalist.
