“Inevitably, someone will rise to the generic defense of journalism and give Murdoch “victim” status, but that would be very wrong.
I am not suggesting that Murdoch, the modern day media equivalent of, at the very least, the East India Trading Co., knew that his minions were hacking phone and email accounts and corrupting police officers and whatnot.
But he certainly set the tone.
Bottom feeding, a key management strategy in a fractured British journalism that aims very sophisticated, gritty publications at every level of the culture, will do that.
As anyone in media can tell you, there’s a fortune to be made in giving people what they think they want. This development has already transformed American journalism.
Reporters are now advised to be marketers and fundraisers and advertising-sensitive purveyors of events aimed at “building audience.” You have to bring your ‘tude to political reporting, too, just like Rush Limbaugh and Rachel Maddow and all the rest.
Regular old-fashioned news (as honest a report as one can create of something that happened a minute ago) just isn’t good enough anymore.”
“Murdoch’s debacle, which started quite some time ago with Fleet Street level competition for “news” so bold a pirate would be aghast, may well bring down his empire. (It has already led to shuttering of News of the World, a screamer of a Sunday paper, England’s biggest, that made bottom feeding one of its key menu items).
The scandal may also eventually undermine David Cameron’s government, which has been cozy with the media baron and his associates over time, and lead to even more embarrassment for the police. There were bribes to cops for information. Two key authorities have already stepped down and, my guess is, more will be saying farewell.
What does it all mean to American journalism?
First, as journalism continues to mutate and re-create itself and become even more audience obsessed, it’s pleasant to think of a time when reporters saw themselves as defenders of what was right, of the interests of the people.
There may well not have been a civil rights era in America without the press and TV news. And while John F. Kennedy may have been the president who called for a trip to the moon, Walter Cronkite was the national host who raised the engineering and physics of space travel to poetry and read it right into the living rooms of the nation.
Yes, things have changed.
The people who decided journalism was a profit center managed to squeeze the profit very well. They did not simply throw out the baby with the bath water, they simply crushed the little critter.”

This is a good article from the Tribune. However, what happened over at the Chicago Tribune? In the years leading up to and through the Tony Rezko trial, the Tribune did a pretty good job of reporting. After that, with the exception of John Kass, the Chicago Tribune in lockstep with the rest of the mainstream media has given Obama a free ride. Where is the reporting on Obama and his ties to Chicago corruption and Operation Board Games as well as Obama’s eligibility issues? And what about the multiple articles from the Tribune disappearing. Were they hitting too close to home?
In 2008, Sean Hannity stated that journalism died.
It is worse than that. Starting way before 2008, “news” organizations began morphing into entertainment sites and ultimately brainwashing tools for the Big Brother of cash and ideological control.

The fabric of American society just does not seem to be as strong as it used to. In fact, many would argue that society is coming apart at the seams. Corruption and decay seem to be everywhere. I spend a lot of time in my other articles blaming a lot of this corruption and decay on politicians, bureaucrats and business leaders, but the reality is that they are only part of the story. The truth is that those who are leading us are a reflection of what we have become as a nation. If you got rid of all of our corrupt leaders that would not suddenly “fix” this country.

We may be governed by professional politicians with no stake in the country, who depend for their livelihood on their pay as members of parliament, and therefore have no liberty whatever of private judgment. The Western democracies are not likely to become Communist or Fascist, but they may follow a parallel line of development and evolve a democratic despotism which will destroy human liberty and spiritual initiative as effectually as Communist or Nazi terrorism. II. 10 REASONS WHY AMERICA IS A FAILED TERRORIST STATE
1. The bankster-owned American Empire is guilty of state terrorism, political assassination of foreign and domestic leaders, and domestic propaganda. The 9/11 attacks helped America’s secret establishment to conduct criminal wars in the Middle East while ensuring domestic acceptance of the war on terror grand narrative. As Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, former chief of staff to United States Secretary of State Colin Powell, told Paul Jay, founder of the Real News Network: “America is turning into a country that knows only one way of achieving its purpose and that is to kill people.”
2. The U.S. government and corporate media engage in political censorship and political persecution to silence democratic opposition to the shadow National Security State. The cover-up of the CIA’s assassination of John F. Kennedy, and the cover-up of the false flag attacks on 9/11 are the two biggest examples of joint media-state censorship.
3. Since the passage of the treasonous Patriot Act, and the construction of Homeland Security and the TSA, the U.S. government has continually violated the basic rights of the American people, the rule of law, and the Constitution. Everybody knows Congress is a freak show where the few sane ones like Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich get laughed out of the room. It is a fact that 95% of politicians don’t keep their oaths to protect the Constitution and preserve the rights of the American people. Some politicians are traitors who know what they are doing, some are selfish but they are not part of the secret cabal running things, and some are just total fools who believe that following the rule of law makes America weaker and hurts its chances of defeating the make-believe “terrorists.”
4. The U.S. justice system is broken and dead. For evidence, just look at April Gallop’s 9/11 case. April Gallop survived the attack on the Pentagon on September 11, and went on the public record as saying that no plane hit the building. She sued Dick Cheney, Richard Myers, and Donald Rumsfeld, but her case was thrown out by none other than George W. Bush’s cousin, Judge John M. Walker, Jr., of the 2nd Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals. Coincidence? Hell no. The U.S. justice system won’t prosecute the state terrorists who did 9/11, or the criminal banks on Wall Street that have defrauded and robbed the American people with the help of the Treasury, Congress, the President, and members of the media.
5. America’s infrastructure is crumbling because the nation’s money is being wasted on illegal trillion dollar wars, bailing out criminal banks, and funding unnecessary state security projects. If you ask why Washington’s nation-destroying projects in Iraq and Afghanistan are being funded while America falls and burns you get called a conspiracy theorist and a domestic extremist.
6. America’s militarized police forces and private security mercenaries are being mentally prepared to handle civil unrest and suppress any popular rebellion against the criminals who run Washington. The existence of a militarized police system that is willing to kill citizens and political dissidents for disobeying direct government orders is a sign that a country is going to hell. This global banking elite is the enemy of all nations on Earth, especially America, as Thomas Jefferson and the other founders warned.
Major media and academic institutions ignore the reality that a long and slow financial-corporatist-militarist coup d’at took place in Washington between the years of 1913 and 1963. Any critique of the fraudulent Federal Reserve system, and the runaway CIA, is seen as an attack on America. But the opposite is true. Washington’s Blog wrote an article on April 14, 2011, with the headline, “America is a Failed State.” The article quoted Phil Angelides, chair of the Financial Crisis Commission, as saying, “I think there’s a great concern in this country on two fronts. One is there’s a question here, do we have a dual justice system? One for ordinary people and then one for people with money and enormous wealth and power. Secondly, we need deterrents. To the extent laws were broken, we need deterrents.”
The reality that America is a failed state was expressed by former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Paul Craig Roberts in June, 2010. In an interview with Global Research, Roberts said:
The war on terror, invented by the George W. Bush/Dick Cheney regime, destroyed the US Constitution and the civil liberties that the Constitution embodies. The Bill of Rights has been eviscerated. The Obama regime has institutionalized the Bush/Cheney assault on American liberty. Today, no American has any rights if he or she is accused of “terrorist” activity. The Obama regime has expanded the vague definition of “terrorist activity” to include “domestic extremist,” another undefined and vague category subject to the government’s discretion. In short, a “terrorist” or a “domestic extremist” is anyone who dissents from a policy or a practice that the US government regards as necessary for its agenda of world hegemony.
Roberts’s observation that America is a failed state is not radical and extreme. It is a self-evident truth. Individuals across the political spectrum agree in America that the current U.S. government does not work for the American people and that it is doing everything in its power to undermine true American security.

The best and the brightest of America serve a pack of degenerate murderers and criminal psychopaths who hijacked the American government to serve the will of a lawless and traitorous financial elite. This global banking elite is the enemy of all nations on Earth, especially America, as Thomas Jefferson and the other founders warned.
Major media and academic institutions ignore the reality that a long and slow financial-corporatist-militarist coup d’at took place in Washington between the years of 1913 and 1963. Any critique of the fraudulent Federal Reserve system, and the runaway CIA, is seen as an attack on America. But the opposite is true. The Fed and the CIA are attacking America’s constitutional foundations, enslaving the American people through debt and deception, and carving out America’s blood and guts with a sword wielded from within America’s body politic.
Government propagandists and media lackeys defend Washington’s state terrorism and ridicule the truth that 9/11 was an inside job, while the American people are unjustly taxed to fund criminal wars, criminal government programs, and a criminal international banking system that destroyed America’s financial sovereignty in 1913.
1913 is not ancient history. America’s existence as a nation is threatened today because of the Fed’s disastrous and criminal policies. America is facing a financial and societal collapse as well as an unprecedented political crisis that will shake the very foundations of American society.
Former U.S. National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski, an elitist nut, says that America is “going to slide into intensified social conflicts, social hostility, some forms of radicalism, there is just going to be a sense that this is not a just society.” Others outside of the establishment have said the same for years.
Washington’s Blog wrote an article on April 14, 2011, with the headline, “America is a Failed State.” The article quoted Phil Angelides, chair of the Financial Crisis Commission, as saying, “I think there’s a great concern in this country on two fronts. One is there’s a question here, do we have a dual justice system? One for ordinary people and then one for people with money and enormous wealth and power. Secondly, we need deterrents. To the extent laws were broken, we need deterrents.”
The reality that America is a failed state was expressed by former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Paul Craig Roberts in June, 2010. In an interview with Global Research, Roberts said:
The war on terror, invented by the George W. Bush/Dick Cheney regime, destroyed the US Constitution and the civil liberties that the Constitution embodies. The Bill of Rights has been eviscerated. The Obama regime has institutionalized the Bush/Cheney assault on American liberty. Today, no American has any rights if he or she is accused of “terrorist” activity. The Obama regime has expanded the vague definition of “terrorist activity” to include “domestic extremist,” another undefined and vague category subject to the government’s discretion. In short, a “terrorist” or a “domestic extremist” is anyone who dissents from a policy or a practice that the US government regards as necessary for its agenda of world hegemony.
Roberts’s observation that America is a failed state is not radical and extreme. It is a self-evident truth. Individuals across the political spectrum agree in America that the current U.S. government does not work for the American people and that it is doing everything in its power to undermine true American security.
Noam Chomsky said that America is a failed state in his 2006 book, ‘Failed States: The Abuse of Power and the Assault on Democracy.’ Chomsky wrote: (snip).

“U.S. Rep. Cliff Stearns recently came out in favor of an austere plan to reduce the staggering national debt and — according to the plan’s supporters — save the country from financial collapse.
“When a family exceeds its credit limit, responsible parents tighten the belt and cut spending; Congress and the White House must do the same,” Stearns said Tuesday as he joined 228 other House Republicans and five Democrats in supporting the proposed Cut, Cap and Balance Act.
The measure would pare the 2012 budget by $82 billion, hold future federal spending below 20 percent of gross domestic product and proffer a constitutional amendment as a way to keep the nation’s fiscal accounts balanced.
“Increasing the debt limit without addressing federal spending merely delays this nation’s financial insolvency,” Stearns added concerning President Obama’s desire to push the limit on the nation’s borrowing from $14.3 trillion to more than $16 trillion.
But an analysis of Stearns’ voting record on this issue reveals that the veteran lawmaker favored raising the debt ceiling in the past.
On seven occasions since 2002, the Ocala Republican has supported measures designed to raise the ceiling.
His votes also suggest that politics played a key role in how Stearns leaned on the issue: He largely favored upping the debt limit when Republicans were in charge yet rejected the idea when Democrats were in power.
The exceptions to that pattern occurred in 2008 when Stearns, like many other congressional Republicans, voted against debt-financed measures that the Bush administration sought in order to aid Wall Street.”

“We must now accept the fact that the present United States Congress is hopelessly corrupt.
They are deliberately ignoring legitimate requests by the American people to address the fact that Barack Obama is an illegal President and to investigate the evidence that he has committed felonies.
I have received many emails from readers who have petitioned their members of Congress multiple times only to have their pleas completely disregarded.
Congress is behaving that way for two simple reasons.
First, many are directly complicit in violating the Constitution and perpetrating fraud on the American people and/or they are engaged in a cover-up, which now includes consciously avoiding an investigation of Obama’s alleged felonies.
Second, they are more interested in protecting their lucrative political careers than in protecting their country.
In my opinion, they are traitors and criminals, who must be removed from office and tried in a court of law. There is sufficient evidence to conclude that Obama has committed felonies. By intentionally engaging in a cover-up, Congress would be guilty of “Misprison of felony”, also a felony.
The American people can no longer tolerate such a blatant violation of the Constitution and a willful undermining of the rule of law. It is now our responsibility to take action by making lawful citizen’s arrests and forcing the perpetrators to face the criminal justice system.
We only have about ten months to rescue the United States from those people who want to destroy America.
It has become crystal clear that the US political leadership is either in bed with the anti-American ideologues or are too cowardly to oppose them.
Barack Obama is an illegal President and, most likely, a multiple felon. We must not permit him to enter another election cycle without his ineligibility for office and his alleged felonies being properly investigated.”
