Today, June 25, 2011 is George Orwell’s birthday.
One of the highest honors I ever received was when the Post & Email placed the photo of George Orwell in the article they did on the Citizen Wells blog on May 25, 2010. I am also honored to present the following on George Orwell and 1984.

“Eric Blair was born in 1903 in Motihari, Bengal, in the then British colony of India, where his father, Richard, worked for the Opium Department of the Civil Service. His mother, Ida, brought him to England at the age of one. He did not see his father again until 1907, when Richard visited England for three months before leaving again until 1912. Eric had an older sister named Marjorie and a younger sister named Avril. With his characteristic humour, he would later describe his family’s background as “lower-upper-middle class.” ”
“In 1944 Orwell finished his anti-Stalinist allegory Animal Farm, which was published the following year with great critical and popular success. The royalties from Animal Farm provided Orwell with a comfortable income for the first time in his adult life. Orwell denied that Animal Farm was a reference to Stalinism. Orwell had returned from Catalonia a staunch anti-Stalinist and anti-Communist, but he remained to the end a man of the left and, in his own words, a ‘democratic socialist’.
Orwell is also known for his insights about the political implications of the use of language. In the essay “Politics and the English Language”, he decries the effects of cliche, bureaucratic euphemism, and academic jargon on literary styles, and ultimately on thought itself. Orwell’s concern over the power of language to shape reality is also reflected in his invention of Newspeak, the official language of the imaginary country of Oceania in his novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. Newspeak is a variant of English in which vocabulary is strictly limited by government fiat. “Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, has introduced a bill immigration-enforcement patriots have been demanding for over a decade, the Legal Workforce Act. Why are some people calling it a bad bargain, or even worse, a sellout?
Smith’s bill, H.R. 2164, mandates the use of the federal E-Verify program by all employers across the nation. The bill is not perfect, but on balance, it’s a giant step forward and deserves our support.
Not only is a federal E-Verify mandate a giant leap forward in itself, but the Smith bill greatly improves the E-verify program by requiring cooperation among all federal agencies to eliminate a gaping loophole. The present E-Verify program detects only fake Social Security numbers, not valid numbers being used by multiple persons. The existing law actually encourages identity theft. H.R. 2164 fixes that problem.
The Legal Workforce Act contains many features that make it a good bill. (snip).
Without federal standards and a federal mandate for E-Verify, how many years will patriots have to wait to see successful E-Verify legislation in California? Or New York, Illinois, or Oregon? Does Texas have mandatory E-Verify for all employers? No.
After 14 years in existence, the federal E-Verify program continues to grow and has over 250,000 employers participating. But how long will we wait to see the remaining 13,000,000 employers in the program if we proceed state by state?
Every citizen who is serious about curtailing illegal immigration should help Rep. Smith turn off the jobs magnet by supporting the Legal Workforce Act.”

During a passionate speech today on the House floor, Democratic Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) delivered some surprising remarks while pushing for the House to vote for a measure stripping funding from the war in Libya. According to him, Obama is starting to resemble an “absolute monarch.”
“We have been sliding for 70 years to a situation where Congress has nothing to do with the decision about whether to go to war or not, and the president is becoming an absolute monarch,” he said. “And we must put a stop to that right now, if we don’t want to become an empire instead of a republic.

Jonah….I hope it’s not too late for them to wake up. Their party has already been taken over by socialists, marxists, communists, etc., and all are part of the New World Order whether they intended for that outcome or not. My question is WHY did it take Mr. Nadler, or any of the others who may have disagreed, so long to speak up? My thoughts are that “The One” control freak (the pResident) didn’t ask permission of the ‘Other’ controls freaks (Congress) and that’s what’s upsetting most of Congress…..even the Dems. It doesn’t matter whether ‘WE the PEOPLE’ wanted it (whatever it is) or not…….just that Their toes (Congress’) should not be stepped on. I’ve been reading quite a bit on Agenda 21 today and Folks, it falls right into line on what Obama is doing, and has been trying to do, since he took office. He’s just doubling down on what the Carter, GHW Bush, B & H Clinton, and GW Bush administrations have already put into place. The writer of that article you linked, Nolu Chan, is a long-time antagonist of the birther cause, having caused trouble for Orly, and seems to be a great buddy of the far-left Fogbow blog. You are right, they are all going to come out of the woodwork re. Leo’s work; however, Mario Apuzzo says that he, Mario, had taken this position on Minor v. Happersett long before Leo “discovered” it. Interesting.

The same problem exists where I live. All across the country “sustainability” is being pushed – buzzword re. Agenda 21. Each town and city, regardless of size, is being sold a bill of goods to promote higher density under the guise of preserving open lands.
Where I live the push is to designate scenic areas and corral us citizens into high density dwellings. The city councilors are clueless as to the real U.N. origin and purpose. Furthermore, they don’t really want to listen to anyone who reveals this.
