“UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT
SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA
In the week ending May 22, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 460,000, a decrease of 14,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 474,000. The 4-week moving average was 456,500, an increase of 2,250 from the previous week’s revised average of 454,250.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 3.6 percent for the week ending May 15, unchanged from the prior week’s unrevised rate of 3.6 percent.
The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending May 15 was 4,607,000, a decrease of 49,000 from the preceding week’s revised level of 4,656,000. The 4-week moving average was 4,637,250, a decrease of 11,500 from the preceding week’s revised average of 4,648,750.
The fiscal year-to-date average of seasonally adjusted weekly insured unemployment, which corresponds to the appropriated AWIU trigger, was 5.134 million.
UNADJUSTED DATA
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 404,325 in the week ending May 22, a decrease of 5,765 from the previous week. There were 538,311 initial claims in the comparable week in 2009.
The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 3.4 percent during the week ending May 15, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 4,381,421, a decrease of 88,300 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 4.6 percent and the volume was 6,153,284.
Extended benefits were available in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin during the week ending May 8.
Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,481 in the week ending May 15, an increase of 163 from the prior week. There were 2,369 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, a decrease of 120 from the preceding week.
There were 17,937 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending May 8, an increase of 577 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 36,370, an increase of 1,365 from the prior week.
States reported 5,059,843 persons claiming EUC (Emergency Unemployment Compensation) benefits for the week ending May 8, a decrease of 41,403 from the prior week. There were 2,185,863 claimants in the comparable week in 2009. EUC weekly claims include first, second, third, and fourth tier activity.
The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending May 8 were in Puerto Rico (6.2 percent), Alaska (5.9), Oregon (5.4), Nevada (4.9), California (4.8), Pennsylvania (4.7), Wisconsin (4.5), North Carolina (4.4), Montana (4.3), and Connecticut (4.2).
The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending May 15 were in Tennessee (+3,041), Missouri (+2,369), Mississippi (+1,697), Illinois (+1,154), and Arkansas (+851), while the largest decreases were in California (-2,161), Michigan (-2,133), Washington (-1,968), Florida (-1,480), and Oregon (-1,200).”

I know McCain is always fair game, but there is more than one side to every story.
After the war ended, scumbags would hound the families of troops who never came home, claiming that they had evidence their loved one was still alive and captive in Vietnam, but for a pretty penny, they could “rescue them.” Especially the MIAs, and some POWs, but even KIAs.
This was a common hoax. My aunt and uncle were among the many, many victims. I can’t even imagine how this must have hurt their hearts. And as it became more and more politicized, it must have been a constant thorn in the hearts the every parent who lost a child in Vietnam. One of the reasons McCain supported classifying records is because these shysters used public records to convince grieving families that they had inside information about their loved ones.
During Bush Sr’s term, McCain served on the United States Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs, which investigated these claims. There were 12 members, half were Vietnam vets. The majority (10-2) found no conclusive proof that vets had been left behind, much less were still alive. Of those claims that could be proven one way or another, they were all disproven. One of the 2 dissenters was a vet; the other 5 (including McCain) were with the majority. Whatever McCain is accused of, the other vets (with the one exception) are just as guilty. I believe they also determined that there was no proof that anyone left behind was still alive. This was in 91/92.
Wikipedia is seldom my favorite resource, but in this case it does give a fair acct of the hearings and McCain’s participation as I remember it. Even McCain; like all vets, he’s EARNED the right to have his opinion and his say.

And I’m very frustrated and disappointed by the constant sniping and hating going on, whether it’s for McCain or another RINO, or amongst ourselves. We’ve got to do better. If we can’t find a way to respect each other and our differences of opinion, then we certainly can’t find a way to work together as a team to restore our Constitutional Republic, and if we cannot do that, we sure as hell can’t maintain a free country. John Wayne Gacy, Jr. (March 17, 1942 – May 10, 1994) was an American serial killer.
Between 1972 and 1978, the year he was arrested, Gacy raped and murdered at least 33 young men and boys, mostly teenagers. Although some of his victims’ bodies were found in the Des Plaines River, he buried 26 of them in the small crawl space underneath the basement of his home and three more elsewhere on his property. He became known as “Killer Clown” because of the popular block parties he would throw for his friends and neighbors, entertaining children in a clown suit and makeup as “Pogo the Clown”.

I just received an email from a good friend in Chicago who is up on all the political crime there. I was informed that the zero’s “may” be attending a play as part of their Memorial Day activities. I guess this or anything zero does on his own time is his own business, but I find it sad and shameful that he won’t attend the Arlington Cemetery Memorial Day events, especially in light of the fact that America is at war. He’s supposed to attend a Memorial Day event in Elwood, IL, but my feelings on that is more for publicity in an attempt to save face.

Thank you for the great video, Michael Savage was excellent, I disagree with one thing. American oil guys are not going to take this laying down, if other countries are pumping in the Gulf, they are going to want to be there also.
They will be screaming at their Senators and Reps and I don’t know what else they will be able to do, but these guys are tough they will make their presence known. Positive opinion about the federal government’s handling of a British Petroleum (BP) Gulf of Mexico oil spill is down 13 points from two weeks ago, dropping from 29% to 16%, a new Zogby Interactive survey finds.
Currently, 16% rate the federal government’s response to the spill as excellent or good. The same question in a May 7-10 Zogby Interactive survey found a total of 29% giving a positive rating. Opinion of British Petroleum’s handling of the spill is also down from the previous poll, going from positive ratings of 25% then to just 15% now.
The Zogby Interactive survey of 2,085 adults was conducted from May 25-27, 2010, and has a margin of error of +/-2.2%.
The survey also asked respondents which of the following descriptions best matched their opinion about the spill’s impact:
58% say the spill is, “A disaster that will cause long-term environmental and economic damage.”
28% say it, “Is a problem that will cause some short-term environmental and economic damage on the Gulf Coast.”
11% say, “The potential damage caused by the spill is being exaggerated.”
There are significant partisan differences, with 83% of Democrats calling the spill a “disaster,” compared to 32% of Republicans and 51% of independents.
Another question from both surveys referred to a statement from the Obama Administration that one of its primary roles is, “Keeping the boot on the neck of BP.” The number of those who agree with that statement dropped from 42% on May 10 to 33% now.
Despite the spill, the percentage of adults who agree that, “Offshore drilling is still a safe, reliable and cost-efficient method of producing oil,” remains unchanged from May 10 at 58%. Agreement that expansion of offshore drilling will lead to increased environmental problems is also unchanged at 51%.

I heard on the radio today that 12 dolphin, 23 birds, 156 sea turtles have washed up on shore. Sadly, it won’t end there. Then there’s the poor animals that are found coated with oil and have to go through the washing process. I wish I could go to LA to be a part of the rescue effort.

“Rep. Darrell Issa (r) said Tuesday that Rep. Joe Sestak’s (d) allegation that the White House offered him a job to coax him out of a race against Arlen Specter could be an “impeachable” offense. (AP)
Rep. Joe Sestak’s allegation that the White House offered him a job to drop out of the Pennsylvania Senate primary race against Arlen Specter is a crime that could lead to the impeachment of President Obama, Rep. Darrell Issa said.
But the decision by the Pennsylvania congressman not to elaborate on a so-called deal also could become a political problem as Sestak tries for the U.S. Senate seat.
The White House reportedly is going to formally address the allegation in the next few days. In the meantime, Issa, R-Calif., is one of many inside and outside Washington who want the Democratic Senate primary candidate to explain in detail what offer the White House made.
“It’s very clear that allegation is one that everyone from Arlen Spector to Dick Morris has said is in fact a crime, and could be impeachable,” said Issa, who is threatening to file an ethics compliant if Sestak doesn’t provide more details about the alleged job offer.
Sestak, a former vice admiral in the Navy, first alleged in February that the White House offered him a high-ranking position in the administration last summer if he would sit out the primary against Specter, who won the backing of the White House and state Democratic leaders for switching parties.
The allegation is considered one of the factors that helped him defeat Specter, who was viewed as unscrupulous in doing whatever he could to keep his seat, including changing his party to win White House support for an uphill re-election battle.
But now, Sestak has to go into the general election, where his opponent, former Republican Rep. Pat Toomey, is willing to use the topic as referendum on both Sestak’s and Obama’s credibility.
“Congressman Sestak should tell the public everything he knows about the job he was offered, and who offered it,” Republican Senate candidate Pat Toomey said in a written statement. “To do otherwise will only continue to raise questions and continue to be a needless distraction in this campaign.”
And Democratic Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin, a close ally of the president, said Sestak can’t continue to lay out the charge without backing it up.
“At some point, Congressman Sestak needs to make it clear what happened,” he said.
Issa said this allegation is bigger than the Senate race.
“For Joe Sestak, he can dance around it and he may or may not be a senator,” he said. “But for the White House, this problem’s not going away. Adm. Sestak is in fact a very reliable source.”
Ann Marie McAvoy, a former federal prosecutor, said the White House could have a problem on its hands depending on what the facts show.
“If they were simply offering him a job because they thought he was a qualified person for it and there was no request made that he in essence drop out of the race, it would be different,” she told Fox News. “This is why there really needs to be an in depth investigation. There needs to be witness interviews and so on to figure out what happened, who said what, what were the other circumstances surrounding it.”
Issa has called on the Justice Department to appoint a special prosecutor but Attorney General Eric Holder has said that won’t be necessary.
“We assure you that the Department of Justice takes very seriously allegations of criminal conduct by public officials,” Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich told Issa in a letter. “All such matters are reviewed carefully by career prosecutors and law enforcement agents, and appropriate action, if warranted, is taken.”
Weich said a special prosecutor won’t be needed because the Justice Department “has a long history of handling investigations of high level officials professionally and independently, without the need to appoint a special counsel.”
But McAvoy said any allegation of wrongdoing shouldn’t be left to the Justice Department to decide.
“Someone in the administration had this conversation which means that would be the person mostly likely who committed the crime if there is a crime,” she said. “So you have the people who are representing the people who potentially committed the crime are making the determinations as to whether anything wrong happened. That’s not the way it’s supposed to happen.”
Issa compared any potential cover-up to the Watergate scandal of the Nixon era.the White House Tuesday of a cover up similar to the Watergate scandal.
“It’s not about what was done wrong. It’s about the cover up,” Issa told Fox News. “And right now, there’s a cover up going on at the White House 10 weeks after the allegation.”

Starla, that would be the job of the DOJ, Office of the Inspector General (OIG).
However there is a problem with the DOJ/OIG at the moment. Justice Department Inspector General Glenn A. Fine wrote in a four-page letter to Rep. Frank Wolf of Virginia that Congress stripped him of the power to investigate all alleged wrongdoing within his department back in February 4, 2010.
