NY Governor Cuomo has been denying responsibility for the many deaths in nursing homes in New York.

He has made bizarre claims that Trump bears responsibility.

That is a lie.

And even worse NY has scrubbed the advisory of March 25, 2020. The advisory that clearly contradicts the CDC guidance.

From the NY Post May 20, 2020.

“First Gov. Andrew Cuomo blamed nursing homes for a widely criticized directive from his Health Department barring the facilities from turning away coronavirus-positive people — now he’s pawning it off on the White House.

Critics should “ask President Trump” about it, the governor said Wednesday, arguing that the federal government actually cooked up the mandate — and that New York was just following Washington’s lead.

“Anyone who wants to ask, ‘Why did the state do that with COVID patients in nursing homes,’ it’s because the state followed President Trump’s CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] guidance,” Cuomo told reporters in Albany who pressed him on whether he had any regrets about the directive, which may have played a role in the deaths of thousands of nursing home residents.

“They should ask President Trump. I think that will stop the conversation,” he repeated.”

From the NY State March 25, 2020 Advisory.

“DATE: March 25, 2020
TO: Nursing Home Administrators, Directors of Nursing, and Hospital Discharge Planners
FROM: New York State Department of Health

COVID-19 has been detected in multiple communities throughout New York State. There is an urgent need to expand hospital capacity in New York State to be able to meet the demand for patients with COVID-19 requiring acute care. As a result, this directive is being issued to clarify expectations for nursing homes (NHs) receiving residents returning from hospitalization and for NHs accepting new admissions.

Hospital discharge planning staff and NHs should carefully review this guidance with all staff directly involved in resident admission, transfer, and discharges.

During this global health emergency, all NHs must comply with the expedited receipt of residents returning from hospitals to NHs. Residents are deemed appropriate for return to a NH upon a determination by the hospital physician or designee that the resident is medically stable for return.

Hospital discharge planners must confirm to the NH, by telephone, that the resident is medically stable for discharge. Comprehensive discharge instructions must be provided by the hospital prior to the transport of a resident to the NH.

No resident shall be denied re-admission or admission to the NH solely based on a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of COVID-19. NHs are prohibited from requiring a hospitalized resident who is determined medically stable to be tested for COVID-19 prior to admission or readmission.”

COVID-19 Long-Term Care Facility Guidance
April 2, 2020

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are issuing new recommendations to State and local governments and long-term care facilities (also known as nursing homes) to help mitigate the spread of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). Long-term care facilities are a critical component of America’s healthcare system. They are unique, as they serve as both healthcare providers and as full-time homes for some of the most vulnerable Americans.

In recent weeks, CMS and CDC, at President Trump’s direction, have worked together to swiftly issue unprecedented targeted direction to the long-term care facility industry, including a general prohibition of visitors implemented on March 13, 2020, as well as strict infection control and other screening
recommendations. However, recent observations made by CDC and CMS experts onsite in facilities have emphasized that even more must be done to universally implement this key guidance.”

“3. Long-term care facilities should immediately implement symptom screening for all.
• In accordance with previous CMS guidance, every individual regardless of reason entering a long-term care facility (including residents, staff, visitors, outside healthcare workers, vendors, etc.) should be asked about COVID-19 symptoms and they must also have their temperature checked. An exception to this is Emergency Medical Service (EMS) workers responding to an urgent medical need. They do not have to be screened, as they are typically
screened separately.
• Facilities should limit access points and ensure that all accessible entrances have a screening station.
• In accordance with previous CDC guidance, every resident should be assessed for symptoms and have their temperature checked every day.
• Patients and residents who enter facilities should be screened for COVID-19 through testing, if available.”

  2. None however have gone quite as far as Nation columnist Katha Pollitt who has declared that she would support Biden “if he boiled babies and ate them.”

………….resulting in over 5000 deaths of people who were residents of the nursing homes. He should rightfully face manslaughter charges.

    CW…….
AND……..I would be looking closely at Mzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Pollitt’s intellectual capacity. …..TYPICAL!!!!

  5. It’s the same in MA with ‘Governor’ Chuck-You Charlie Baker, the supposed Republican..

Two Soldier’s Homes (run by the state), Chelsea (greater Boston) and Holyoke (Western MA) have been decimated by COVID-19, as have virtually all nursing homes and long term care facilities. This group of people represent over 78% of the deaths from this virus.

These are our most vulnerable populations. Why have they been kicked to the curb?

    Money.

I’ve been talking to colleagues and they’re telling me that for every positive test or death in the state, we get Federal money. The more people who have COVID-19, the more money we get. We are currently in the hole for $2B.

As we often say: Always follow the money.

The vulnerable populations are the pawns in this scheme. We are disposable and the state gets dollars for having us sick and dead.

The state wants those of us who are vulnerable or at high risk, to hurry up and get sick and/or die; we represent money, and nothing else. They don’t give a damn.

It’s too bad that Katha Pollitt’s mother didn’t make another choice when she was pregnant with this pig. Does this woman even look normal?

    Some Local News………….
As local business begin to open……
Santa Barbara County just issued this order.

“Beginning Tuesday residents will be REQUIRED to wear face masks in ALL public places including grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations, restaurants, laundromats and etc. etc.
Failure to comply may constitute a fine up to $1000, imprisonment, or both.”
Guess I’ll just stay at home and eat another bowel of strawberries. We have lots of strawberries in SB county. The other day I saw 9 miles of field workers driving home in their cars bumper to bumper (must have been well over 3000 cars).

  17. oldsailor88

AND ARE MATER PICKERS heading home? Time to grow your own strawberries. YOU BECOME THE HIRED PICKER….a tiny plot 10’x 12′ can provide more than you can eat. The soil there grows a lot of things well.

  18. oldsailor++
Why grow them? We have a lot of pickers…3,000 cars guess 4,500 pickers and now this…

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California will be the first state to give cash to immigrants living in the country illegally who are hurt by the coronavirus, offering $500 apiece to 150,000 adults who were left out of the $2.2 trillion stimulus package approved by Congress.

Many Americans began receiving $1,200 checks from the federal government this week, and others who are unemployed are getting an additional $600 a week from the government that has ordered them to stay home and disrupted what had been a roaring economy.

But people living in the country illegally are not eligible for any of that money, and advocates have been pushing for states to fill in the gap. Wednesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced he would spend $75 million of taxpayer money to create a Disaster Relief Fund for immigrants living in the country illegally.

  19. oldsailor88

    hapnHal……
………..could Newsom be one of the so called BLEEDING HEARTS ADVOCATES?. We have a couple of them here in our statehouse. These people will cry, and whine at the drop of a hat. Their usual line of crapola is “Ohh those poor little people…….they have nothing…..NOW THIS”……..OHHHHHHH BOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO……..REALLY SICKENING TO HEAR. I GUESS THE WHINING ADVOCATES HAVE NEVER HEARD OF DEPORTATION.!!!!!!

More than 4,500 recovering coronavirus patients were sent to New York’s already vulnerable nursing homes under a controversial state directive that was ultimately scrapped amid criticisms it was possibly accelerating the outbreaks

    AND NOW…………
………….a whole lot of people have discovered what I was talking about a few months back, when I asked “What will happen to people when EVERYTHING STOPS”? The pandemic has provided a taste of what could happen. It is a bitter experience. Many people have discovered their limitations, and inabilities to cope with such a level of sudden change in their lives. Now they have learned that when everything stops it radically restricts your personal pursuits …..in addition to which monetary balance ends as well. A life of near hell ensues. Will people retain what they have learned?

  23. oldsailor88

    CW……..
………I am wondering how the Governor of New York reconciles the deaths of a hell of a lot of elderly people( who were already residents of the nursing homes, but were not diseased) with shoving thousands of diseased people in with them. A whole lot of innocent seniors have died as a result of the governor’s ignorance. Time for CUOMO to pay the fiddler!!!!!!

  24. Happy Memorial Day everyone and OS88, thank you for your service :).

    We must never forget….

  25. Yes, thank you all!

  26. oldsailor88

    SueK……….
……….I don’t really expect , or want thanks from anyone. In 1951 I decided to do what WAS EXPECTED OF ME as a citizen, and enlisted in the Navy. Didn’t get there until January of 1952, but got there nonetheless. I saw as much of the world as I care to see. I even got to watch 6 nuclear detonations from 40 miles distance. One of these was the first HYDROGEN test. This was supposed to be a yield of 7.5 meg. Turned out to be 15 meg…….not exactly a toy. Ended up contaminating over 7000 sq. miles of the Pacific ocean. An entire tribe of Polynesian Natives had to be resettled on another atoll. Many were rained on with high levels of CS 137. A few are still being cared for at taxpayers expense. The test was called “BRAVO”. Type the words BRAVO NUCLEAR TEST into your computer search engine, and read.

  27. oldsailor88

    Suek…….
………ports I have been to are Barrow Alaska, Kiska, Unimak, Marshall Islands, Hong Kong, Subic Bay Phillipines, Korea, Yokosuka, Kobe, Sasebo Japan, Sea of Japan, South China Sea, Pacific Ocean, Bering Straits, Bering Sea, Barents Sea, Arctic Ocean. Cadiz Spain, Lisbon Portugal, San Juan Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Gitmo, Panama………all for FREE !!!! This list excludes 6 major US ports, which includes my last port of call ….BOSTON MA. Everybody I met at the various ports were no different than Americans. They didn’t speak our language but I guess that is to be expected.

  28. OS88,

I don’t care whether or not you want thanks; you’re getting them :).

It’s because of you and veterans/active service members that I can call my boss an a-hole and not get shot.

Doing some required trainings while working from home and one of the training vids was ‘BRAVO.’ I didn’t know you were there! The locals had no idea what was about to happen; it wasn’t explained to them very well and those who were there did indeed get a good dose of Cs-137, which has a half life of just over 30 years. We owe them. A lot.

You saved the best port of call for last ;).

    Happy Memorial Day!

  29. oldsailor88

    SueK…….
…….in the interim period since 1954 I have spent a great deal of time researching the effects of low dose ionizing radiation, and the potential dangers of inhaling airborne CS 137, and other fallout particles. Out of this I have learned that even intermittent exposure, to low dose ionizing radiation can fracture the human DNA strand. When this happens cells can no longer reproduce themselves. NON HODGKINS LYMPHOMA CAN SOON FOLLOW. I used the Johns Hopkins database for most of the research. Much of the information it contains is in LAY GRAMMAR……and easy to comprehend. To date I copied over 1000 pages relating to the dangers of low dose ionizing radiation.

  30. oldsailor88

    AND TODAY………
……….I have in the recent past used the terms UP IS DOWN, AND LEFT IS RIGHT. PINK IS NOW BLUE, AND APPLES FALL FROM THE GROUND UP TO THE TREES. STRAWBERRIES JUST FALL ON COMMAND FROM THE SKY. MORE AND MORE PEOPLE ARE LIVING IN THEIR LITTLE FANTASY WORLDS, AND THIS SEEMS TO WORSEN AS EACH DAY PASSES. THIS TELLS ME THAT HUMANITY IS DRAWING CLOSER AND CLOSER TO THE POINT OF NO RETURN. TO COMPOUND THIS MANY JUST TELL YOU THEY HAVE THEIR DREAMS, AND HOPES. WHETHER IT IS FANTASY OR NOT WILL PROBABLY BE DETERMINED AS TIME PASSES, AND WHILE EACH PERSON PLUNGES TO THE ROCKY FLOOR OF THE CHASM. IT AIN’T THE FALL………RATHER, IT IS THE SUDDEN STOP AS THEY STRIKE THE FLOOR OF THE CHASM……. END OF FANTASY.!!!!!!

Interesting posts. Whatcha doing in the Marshall Islands? They don’t have a McDonald’s on either Kwajalein or Eniwetok. Those atolls, however, do make good targets for Vandenberg’s MM III.

  38. Cooper already treading on thin ice.
That is about the same time that public school resumes (and it had better).
Sure that Cooper depends on fake news & is surrounded by liberals.
He too screwed up on nursing homes.
    Remember, he barely got elected.
Out of state college students made the difference.
Some of them may not be here this fall.
    Very thin ice.

  39. OS88,

So very sorry to learn of the passing of your friend and shipmate. I’ll bet you shared a lot of stories on the Ruchamkin,

Was he with you for BRAVO?

  40. oldsailor88

    SueK……..
………..MY FRIEND was not at the 1954 Nuclear tests. This is because I was not serving aboard the Ruchamkin while I was at the 1954 H tests. I was then serving aboard the USS Belle Grove LSD 2. The LSD was the appropriate ship for the nuclear test support, in that it served as a small boat center for repairs, and replacement. The LSD is a type of landing ship which is largely a large powered drydock. Our mission in the sea of Japan was also in recovery, and transport. After we returned from that assignment the ship was re assigned to the task group 7.3 which was flagged by the USS Mt. Olympus which was an AGC. The AGC is a Tactical Command ship, and it usually billets the Admiral Commanding the task group. My friend who passed away I met after we returned to Long Beach from the nuclear tests. He was the son of a Swedish family who enlisted in the Navy about the same time I did. He was already serving aboard Ruchamkin when I arrived. He remained aboard for several months while the Ruchamkin was still at Boston. He was discharged later in 1956. The Ruchamkin was finally mothballed in 1957 at Boston. She was re commissioned soon after the USS Scorpian accident to help with locating the sunken USS Scorpion. The submarine accident happened not far from the Azores. The Ruchamkin was later given to the Columbian Navy, and after 10 years of service it was finally scrapped.
My friend and I remained in occasional contact over the years. He and his family stopped by for a visit a few years back. He went on after his Navy service to the US Maritime Comission (MARAD) as a ship inspector. We both had similar cultural tastes, which was certainly a link in our friendship. His surname was Quist. He grew up in Ridgewood, NJ where there was once a fairly large Scandinavian community.

  41. oldsailor88

    SueK………
………if you wish to see what the USS Belle Grove LSD 2 looked like just type it all into your computer search engine, and you should see a picture of the ship. REAL UGLY DUCKLING !!!!
