“BuzzFeed Posts Unverified Claims on Trump, Stirring Debate
BuzzFeed News became the center of a swirling debate over journalistic ethics on Tuesday after its decision to publish a 35-page document carrying explosive, but unverified, allegations about ties between the Russian government and President-elect Donald J. Trump.
The document, a dossier prepared by a former British intelligence officer hired by Mr. Trump’s political opponents, had been circulating among high-ranking politicians and some journalists since the fall. Intelligence officials recently presented a two-page summary of the allegations to Mr. Trump and President Obama, CNN reported on Tuesday.
But CNN declined to include the specific allegations contained in the dossier — such as collusion between Mr. Trump’s team and Russian operatives — saying that its journalists could not independently verify them.
Roughly an hour later, BuzzFeed, in a break from typical journalistic practice, posted the document that fully detailed the unverified allegations to which CNN had alluded.
“BuzzFeed News is publishing the full document so that Americans can make up their own minds about allegations about the president-elect that have circulated at the highest levels of the US government,” BuzzFeed wrote.
Ben Smith, BuzzFeed’s editor in chief, declined to comment beyond the article, which carried the bylines of three BuzzFeed reporters. But in a memo to his staff, Mr. Smith offered a further explanation about why the site had published the document.
“Our presumption is to be transparent in our journalism and to share what we have with our readers,” Mr. Smith wrote. “We have always erred on the side of publishing. In this case, the document was in wide circulation at the highest levels of American government and media.
“Publishing this document was not an easy or simple call, and people of good will may disagree with our choice,” Mr. Smith added. “But publishing this dossier reflects how we see the job of reporters in 2017.”
The reports by CNN and Buzzfeed sent other news organizations, including The New York Times and The Washington Post, scrambling to publish their own articles, some of which included generalized descriptions of the unverified allegations about Mr. Trump. By late Tuesday, though, only BuzzFeed had published the full document.
BuzzFeed’s decision, besides its immediate political ramifications for a president-elect who is to be inaugurated in 10 days, was sure to accelerate a roiling debate about the role and credibility of the traditional media in today’s frenetic, polarized information age.
Of particular interest was the use of unsubstantiated information from anonymous sources, a practice that fueled some of the so-called fake news — false rumors passed off as legitimate journalism — that proliferated during the presidential election.”
“In a brief interview in the Times newsroom on Tuesday evening, Dean Baquet, the executive editor of The Times, said the paper would not publish the document because the allegations were “totally unsubstantiated.”
“We, like others, investigated the allegations and haven’t corroborated them, and we felt we’re not in the business of publishing things we can’t stand by,” Mr. Baquet said.”

The Ambassador HAS NOT been named – and supposedly the author of the report also gave it to an FBI agent he knew at its station in Rome months ago.
The report was apparently paid for by FIRST the Republican enemies of Mr. Trump then by the Democrats.

‘They were looking at Trumps business ties, they saw some questionable things about Russians, about his businesses in Russia, they, in turn, hired this MI6 former investigator, he then came up with additional information from his Russian sources, he was very concerned by the implications of it, he then took it to an FBI colleague that he had known in his undercover work for years, he took it to this FBI man in Rome who turned it over to the bureau in Washington in August.
‘And then, a former British ambassador to Russia independently was made aware of these findings and he took the information to John McCain – Senator John McCain of Arizona – in the period just after the election, and showed it to McCain – additional findings.
‘McCain was sufficiently disturbed by what he read to take it to FBI director James Comey himself personally, the TWO MEN had a five-minute meeting, very little was said, McCain turned it over to him and is now awaiting what the FBI’s response is to that information.’

He was going back and forth about how news organizations as a rule do not release unsubtantiated stories about people, and he gave as an example the widely known stories about Obama’s personal sex life which has never been reported. This is interesting, and should be shown time and time again. Maybe someone can find a video of this exchange. It was great.

For some unknown reason he has morphed a little into some sort of limbo. Perhaps it is because of the way he presents his viewpoints. I have nothing against him, but his time slot conflicts with a show that I never miss on the NGEO channel. But regarding Soetoro’s already well known sexual orientation (HOMOSEXUAL) I too have my doubts that his mate is even a woman. There has been a great deal of videos posted which show his mate with bulges in the areas where they should not be in natural female genital area of the clothing which his mate was wearing at the time. It did not appear on close captioning so may not make the transcript. Perhaps others heard this and you may get some push back. I am glad you revealed your concerns.
Your remark is especially poignant for me because I believe the CIA was involved with the assassinations of both Kennedy’s, the murder of MLK, and the shooting of Reagan. Trump today compared the CIA fake news efforts to those in Nazi Germany.
The leadership of our security services is pushing the Obama/Clinton narrative that Trump’s election was illegitimate because it was due to Russian hacking. They are moving troops and tanks to confront Russia. They are setting up a narrative that Trump is aligned with Russia and America must take steps against Russia owing to the alleged interference with the election causing HRC to lose. This Jingoism is bringing us to the brink of war.
Many powerful people must be upset and fearful of the Trump administration; and they should be considering what they have done. I have been concerned for some time that the CIA will be involved with an effort to neutralize Trump, if only by allowing it to go forward. Your comment tells me you have similar concerns.
To date the CIA has not been held to account for the murders of American politicians. If they make the expected attempt on Trump, they need to be held to account.

In a highly unusual move, higher orders are forcing the highest ranking military officer who heads the Washington, D.C. National Guard to be removed at exactly 12:01 p.m. Jan. 20, just as Donald Trump is sworn in as president.
The officer, Maj. Gen. Schwartz was not given a reason, and one can only wonder whether or not it signals a potential coup or threat to the incoming administration.
As The Washington Post reports, Schwartz’s departure will come in the middle of the presidential ceremony — classified as a national special security event — and while thousands of his troops are deployed to help protect the nation’s capital during an inauguration he has spent months helping to plan.
“The timing is extremely unusual,” Schwartz said in an interview Friday morning, confirming a memo announcing his ouster that was obtained by The Washington Post.
During the inauguration, Schwartz would command not only the members of the D.C. guard but also an additional 5,000 unarmed troops sent in from across the country to help. He also would oversee military air support protecting the nation’s capital during the inauguration.
“My troops will be on the street,” Schwartz, who turned 65 in October, said, “I’ll see them off but I won’t be able to welcome them back to the armory.” He said that he would “never plan to leave a mission in the middle of a battle.”
Schwartz, who was appointed to head the guard by President George W. Bush in 2008, maintained the position through President Obama’s two terms. He said his orders came from the Pentagon but that he doesn’t know who made the decision.
D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson (D) blasted the decision to remove Schwartz, especially on Inauguration Day.
“It doesn’t make sense to can the general in the middle of an active deployment,” Mendelson said. He added that Schwartz’s sudden departure would be a long-term loss for the District. “He’s been really very good at working with the community and my impression was that he was good for the Guard.”
Unlike in the states, where the governor appoints the National Guard commander, in the District that duty falls to the president. That president is Barack Hussein Obama.
Schwartz said he will work up until that moment, and then plans to retire from the Army. “I’m a soldier,” he said. “I’m a presidential appointee. Therefore, the president has the power to remove me.”

WaPO Rewrites General Fired at Midnight Story Without Acknowledgement!
This WaPo story ( https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/public-safety/commanding-general-of-dc-national-guard-to-be-removed-from-post/2017/01/13/725a0438-d99e-11e6-b8b2-cb5164beba6b_story.html?utm_term=.b0af50e85cb4 ) has been completely rewritten since it was originally posted this morning, with no notice of the rewrite!
The original FR post uses the WaybackMachine link from 1:55pm and the above is the link for the current 5:23pm version, which CURRENTLY does not acknowledge the rewrite.

The original story mentioned ONLY the memo it supposedly “obtained” and said NOTHING at all about standard letters of resignation, nor did it quote anonymous “military” officials, AND it said it had received no comment at all from the Trump people (or the military for that matter). The original article implied there may be some kind of craziness behind the change based solely on this secret memo they had, strongly making people think that Trump fired this guy in midstream.
Hundreds, perhaps thousands of other outlets then wrote articles based on the original version of the WaPo article, some even headlining “Trump fires general in midstream”. None of these hastily written derivative articles have noted the secret WaPo retractions.
However, within hours of the original article, WaPo completely rewrote the article and completely reoriented the focus and meaning of the article but did NOT acknowledge the rewrite!
This is what WaPo did with their original “Russians hacked the power grid” article: rushing out sensational BS garbage without doing any confirmation research, getting caught, and then having to make a “note”, but the damage was already done because thousands of other media outlets replicated the original story.
Except in this case, WaPo simply rewrote the original story without even noting the rewrite!

Soon you only need look no further than in their faces, to verify what, and who they are. Actually it doesn’t require any high powered education to become very skilled at LIAR detection………….just a little experience watching their facial expressions, as they tell their insane tales.
I watched John Lewis’s facial expression as he raved, and ranted about PEOTUS Trump. In reality John Lewis is a signed on hand of the party of HALFWITS…………but above all else he is a YES MAN. He religiously follows the mandates set by his superiors. While he might have walked with MLK, that stroll was most likely done to try to have some of MLKs hard earned RENOWN rub off on him, so that he could move forward politically. This is what LIBERAL DEMOCRATS are well known for. They refuse to EARN THEIR OWN REPUTATION, they simply try to STEAL A REPUTATION without expending any effort. He doesn’t fool anybody. Given his position he has no right to JUDGE the veracity of Trump’s win. People who work hard to EARN THEIR REPUTATIONS DO HAVE A RIGHT TO JUDGE…………but John Lewis is NOT ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE. You need only look in his back yard, and you will see the truth. It is a really cluttered mess. Needs cleaned up!
