Pope Francis is a very likeable person and appears to be genuinely concerned about humanity.

However, like the rest of humanity, he has risen to his own level of incompetence.
I call this the “Saint Peter Principle.”
Not only has he risen to his own level of incompetence, I question that what he is speaking of is the message of Jesus.
To put this in more simple terms, as my mother would say, “he has gotten too big for his britches.”
Pope Francis hails from South America, the home of failed socialist policies, vast raping of the environment and widespread poverty.
He appears to be clueless about the core nature of capitalism such as my ancestors experienced when they left Europe in the 1700’s.
He also appears to be oblivious to the fact that capitalism has brought much of humanity out of historical poverty.

Thomas Sowell has a column today about the pope and his arrival, but primary it’s about the pope’s message. I have highlighted three things that Sowell has written here because they’re brilliant. When Kim Davis won the election and she was sworn in to her office, she agreed to uphold the laws of Kentucky. Then the SCOTUS decides to redefine marriage AFTER she had agreed to uphold Kentucky law. Kentucky legislature DID NOT change the laws on the books. In addition before Kim became the elected county clerk she gave her soul to God……..NOT AFTER SHE WAS ELECTED as the QUEERS are trying to make the world believe. She is a very courageous woman. When she swore to uphold Kentucky law the SCOTUS had not yet re defined marriage. The Federal Mandate was put upon her AFTER THE FACT, but she still had sworn to uphold only Kentucky law which is all she was required to do when she was sworn in. I personally believe that she is well within her rights with respect to the First amendment of the Constitution……..which BTW has NOT BEEN FORMALLY, OR LEGALLY RESCINDED, THE CONSTITUTION IS STILL LEGALLY VALID IN AMERICA, AS IS THE BILL OF RIGHTS. At this point he invoked the “golden rule” and got the obligatory standing ovation. It’s now the 30:00 mark, and I am still semi-patiently waiting for the “vicar of Christ” to give Jesus a shout out.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) will resign as speaker and from Congress at the end of October, an aide told Business Insider.
The aide told Business Insider that Boehner had planned to retire last year, but his calculus was changed by the unexpected Republican primary loss of former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.
Boehner announced the decision in a House Republican caucus meeting Friday morning, in which Republicans discussed a strategy going forward with a government shutdown looming at the end of the month.
Boehner is expected to speak to reporters soon in Washington.

“Speaker Boehner believes that the first job of any Speaker is to protect this institution and, as we saw yesterday with the Holy Father, it is the one thing that unites and inspires us all.

The POPE is correct. Christian faith MUST BE a valid, and functioning part of family life everywhere. Without spiritual faith the family has no GLUE to hold it together. My first wife was Catholic, but I was not, but neither she nor I allowed our separate faiths to get in the way of our family relationship. I have never forgotten her, and NEVER WILL. Watching the POPE’S visit to New York brought back a FLOOD of both pleasant memories, and very painful ones. We had our apartment in Brooklyn. As I watched the coverage of the papal visit to New York, I felt a very strange emotion where I felt completely stripped of my faculties, and it was as though I was finally being judged. THE TRUMP SOLUTION
When Trump purchased and rebuilt Mar-A-Lago the Grand mansion and estate In Palm beach, Florida he got into a dispute with the city, who are well known for being strict on zoning regulations.
Trump put up a 50 foot flag pole even though only a 30 foot pole is the maximum allowed.
The city imposed a 1,000 dollar fine per day.
While Trump and the city argued back and forth, finally when the fine had reached 120,000 dollars
Trump proposed a solution.
He would donate that amount to a veterans organizations, would move the flag and pole to a different location in front of the mansion and would only fly the flag use a 30 foot pole.
The city agreed.
So Trump brought in the company who does Golf course construction had them build a 20 foot high grassy hill and put a 30 foot flag pole on top of that…..

I was a protestant, and my wife was a devout Catholic. Many people suggested to us that our children would be looked upon by the eyes of the church as BASTARDS. Frankly I didn’t then, and still don’t necessarily give a damn what others think,.yet we were together for 22 years,(until her death) and raised two sons……..the oldest of whom has continued successfully with the reborn graphic arts business, which his grandfather created in 1931. I am WHO I am, and I am WHAT I am, none of which will ever change. If I am looked upon as arrogant then so be it…..I am quite proud of my life’s accomplishments.
A person can live a life of IDIOTIC FANTASY, and end up dying without having ever done anything while on earth except create chaos or that person can live a life of Christianity, reality, hard work, and accomplishment.
Throughout my life I have seen people who have only three word vocabularies at age 50, and I have had the great pleasure of talking ,and corresponding with people having millions of words in their vocabularies. ……..but it is one thing to have an infinite command of grammar, but this command of grammar must be accompanied by intelligent use of the words in one’s vocabulary. I am an advocate of advanced education, but when a person’s advanced education becomes a platform which he/she uses to DECEIVE, DEFRAUD, LIE TO,AND TWIST WORDS, AND LAWS THAT PERSON REDUCES HIMSELF,OR HERSELF TO A LEVEL OF A cheap common criminal. WE SEE A LOT OF SUCH PERSONALITIES IN OUR PRESENT GOVERNMENT…………and ever so slowly these BASTARDS are destroying what was once a beautiful enterprise……AMERICA!

From your last post……I think our lives are very similar in many ways….
I too married a Catholic and I was a Protestant…We had two children, a boy and a girl…..my mother thought we would both go “stright to hell” because I married a catholic….she later changed her mind and found that my wife was a true friend and loyal, loving family member….
When my wife passed away due to a botched operation in 2005, I thought my world too had ended too…but it hadn’t….
I was knocked down to the ground for the count… but I wasn’t out.
I picked myself up, dusted myself off, and continued to march through life…..that is exactly what my wife would have expected of me….that’s exactly what I did.
Then at the ripe old age of 70, I found a companion again….we were married on St. Patrick’s day in 2007…and since then, we have traveled three time to Europe, toured all over America, plus an adventure trip to Costa Rica that was on her bucket list….
We have not let any moss grow under our feet….and we have no intention too either. I am now 79 (soon to be 80) and she is 75….and too us, age is just a number.
I have been wondering here lately what she has planned for my “big 80″….in Costa Rica, she had me zip-lining through the damn trees with the monkeys screaming at me….it’s hard telling what is on her bucket list for me to be doing next ! But that’s the excitement for life that is within her….
The moral of what I am saying here in this post is; that “life does not end when you lose someone you have loved and lived with for over 40 years…..it only changes.
And you have to accept that change,
You have to pick up the pieces and have to “finish the race” and you have to complete what the LORD has assigned you too do….and that’s exactly what I am doing.
This does not mean that I don’t miss, or love my first wife any less….it only means that life must continue and I cannot live and dwell in the past….although I do, at times, sit and think of things I have done, and people who were dear too me, and wondered how and why I was permitted to survive some of the stuff I have encountered.
I have lived a rich life full of adventure, as I am sure you have too. In fact, I think we both have lived many lifetimes of adventure all wrapped into one.
Now at our age, we have been given a “pass” to slow down and remember where we have been, what we have done, and a pause to thank the good LORD for carrying us safely through the storms !

This immediately brought to my mind of a ‘fresh, young, well educated 2nd Lt.” who came to my rifle company once when I was the Executive Officer there….and I was only a 1st Lt at that time….with no college……I was a mustang who came up through the enlisted ranks then accepted into OCS.
This officers name was Pete Devine. Pete was a like able little fellow, very well educated. He had a masters degree from some Ivy league school. In fact, he was over-educated to be a simple rifle platoon leader !!
He was always trying to analyze everything instead of doing what hell he was told to do…..
As a Rifle Platoon Leader, the men under his command didn’t have the “foggest idea” of what he was talking about most of the time…..fortunately, the company commander had assigned the best platoon sergeant in the company to his platoon so he could play nursemaid and so Pete wouldn’t get lost or really screw up badly….
The platoon sergeant often came to me complaining that his platoon leader was “so damn dumb he couldn’t even lace up his boots correctly”…. me being an old mustang, I would just smile at the platoon sergeant and say….”that’s why the old man” assigned you to that platoon…. so sergeant get a grip on it… and carry on….
I eventually got my college degree thanks to the US Army…but I am of the same opinion as you are…..which I think is;
An education in the wrong person’s hands can be dangerous ! Fortunately, Pete wasn’t a General …else we would all have been “Up $hit creek, without a paddle” !

……..A lifelong friend once told me “Beware of FRIENDS”,they will be the first to try to CUT YOUR THROAT. I didn’t pay a whole lot of attention to what he said, and went on about my business. About a month later I went into my office and opened my desk drawer to take out my client roster. Lo and behold it was missing. I wondered who would want to read a list of company names, and purchasing agents? …..pretty boring stuff. Fortunately my business partner also had the same list. As time passed I began to hear remarks from INK SALESMEN, and our main paper supplier which bothered me a little but owing to the demands of the business I failed to realise what I was hearing. One afternoon it began to dawn on me where the remarks of these people was rooted. I had a talk with my business partner, and he in turn contacted a personal friend who was a private investigator, and set up an out of plant meeting for all three of us. I told him what I suspected, and who I suspected had removed the roster book from my desk. I had come to the conclusion that the only way the various sales people could have known about the information they had commented on had to have come from my roster book. Apparently, the person who I had relied upon, and trusted for many years was earning tidy sums selling contact names, and leads out of my roster. So we obtained some PHONEY business cards from another printer, and I put one of them up on the telephone rotary index. The investigator pretended to be a representative of the competitor, whose business card we had put in the file. Sure enough within a month he received a telephone call from my foreman who offered him quotation figures which I used to compete for bid work. He wanted $500.00 for each quotation I had tendered to various companies in sealed bid solicitations. He arranged a meeting with my foreman, who at this point had not even a clue that I knew what he was doing. He met with the investigator, and laid my roster on the table. Both my business partner and I was present but OUT OF SIGHT, The investigator told my foreman that he wanted him to meet his boss. That is when both I and my business partner appeared. I had his final paycheck in my hand, and that was the first thing I done, and he was advised not to show up from that time forward on the property for any reason or he would be immediately arrested for theft of privileged company information. I had considered him to be a PERSONAL FRIEND, and it was he who had said “BEWARE OF FRIENDS.” More often than not we learn from the teacher of PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE, at the school of REALITY.
