“Miles: 5 DISD students possibly exposed to Ebola”

“The sister of the first Ebola patient diagnosed in the United States says her brother told relatives that he had notified officials the first time he went to the hospital that he was visiting from Liberia.

Mai Wureh says her brother, Thomas Eric Duncan, went to a Dallas emergency room on Friday and they sent him home with antibiotics. He told his sister hospital officials asked for his Social Security number and he said that he didn’t have one because he was visiting from Liberia.

In a news conference Wednesday, Dr. Mark Lester confirmed that a nurse asked Duncan on his first visit whether he had been in an area affected by the Ebola outbreak that has killed thousands in West Africa.

“A checklist was in place for Ebola in this hospital for several weeks. That checklist was utilized by the nurse, who did ask [the] question [if the patient had been to Africa,]” Lester said. “[…] Regretfully, that information [was not shared] with the full team.”

As the medical team assessed Duncan on his first visit, they thought it was a low-grade viral disease. Dr. Edward Goodman, a Texas Health Presbyterian infectious disease specialist, said when Duncan went to the emergency room Friday he was not vomiting or having diarrhea, but he did have a fever and some abdominal pain.”

“Dallas ISD superintendent Mike Miles also revealed that five children from four of the district’s campuses were possibly exposed to the virus.

Miles identified the schools as:

Conrad High School
Tasby Middle School
Hotchkiss Elementary School
Dan D. Rogers Elementary School
Tasby Middle School shares a campus with Jack Lowe Sr. Elementary School, but DISD officials say there are no students at Lowe Elementary who were directly exposed to Duncan.”

“The CDC Was Wrong About How to Stop Ebola”

“News that a man has been diagnosed with the virus in Dallas days after arriving from Liberia is alarming—and to prevent more U.S. cases, certain rules must never be broken.

The announcement that a case of Ebola virus has been diagnosed in a Dallas hospital sent a chill through the medical, public health, and basic citizen communities. I know my jaw surely dropped as far as it has dropped since 2001, when the word of the first anthrax case in New York appeared in my email. As the details have begun to emerge, many people are wondering the same thing: Will this happen in my city?

The answer is quite clear: Maybe.

The facts are straightforward, at least in the version that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention laid out: A man of uncertain age flew from Liberia, where the disease remains uncontrolled, to Dallas to visit family. When checked for illness on departure, he had no fever. Upon landing in Texas on September 20, he was fine. Within four days, though, he began to feel ill—sufficiently so that he sought medical attention on September 26. That evaluation apparently failed to provide clues to the diagnosis, but two days later his symptoms had progressed enough that he again sought medical attention and this time was hospitalized, placed immediately into isolation, and diagnosed on September 30.

The timeline as presented raises countless questions. First: Was he contagious when boarding the plane and are his plane-mates therefore at risk? Surely not—the most compelling epidemiological fact in the entire tragic seven month outbreak has been the story of Patrick Sawyer, the Minnesotan who after traveling from Liberia to Nigeria, developed symptoms of overwhelming Ebola and died soon thereafter. Although few details have been revealed, none of those who traveled with Sawyer developed the disease despite the fact that he, unlike the Dallas case, was ill with the infection while traveling. And it is axiomatic (and hopefully true) that a person is contagious only when they are sick, not when they are brewing the infection.

Second: What about others? Surely others in Texas were exposed and are at risk—specifically those the new case spent time with from September 26, when he first felt ill, until September 28, when he was hospitalized and placed promptly into isolation. Here is where the CDC’s calm and forceful “Nothing to See Here” message cracks a bit around the edges.”

  1. Our president will stop flights to Israel, one of our great allies on the war on terror, but will not stop flights from West Africa with people who might carry deadly Ebola or close our southern border to terrorists. Go figure.

  2. Oh, and our POTUS has no problem with Iran getting nukes, but wants reviews of weapons sent to Israel. Rather crazy.

  3. Recently I posed the question as to how long the Ebola virus could exist outside the body. In other words, if an ill person touches a railing, counter, wall, etc., how long will the virus live and be able to affect others who might innocently touch the contaminated area?

This is a very well-written article by someone who went to Liberia as a journalist. He gives first-hand testimony re. questions as to how crowded living conditions, lack of knowledge about communicable diseases, and very limited medical facilities all contribute to the wild spread of the disease in Africa. It was an eye-opener, because I believe that the CDC and others do not want to unduly alarm the American people by pointing out the risks that exist should this disease spread here.

No question about it – In the U.S. we have the vast capacity to control such an outbreak and more effectively treat this than in Africa.

    Still, vigilance is the watchword.

Reporting on Ebola: First rule is you don’t touch anyone
Inside Ebola treatment centers and a small private hospital I entered once, the rules become stricter. There, you touch nothing — not a wall, nor a desk nor a piece of paper. Though the virus most loves our bloodstreams and body temperature, it can survive on surfaces. No one is quite sure how long. Studies show it can be anywhere from two hours to two days.

“The Federal Reserve will publish a new monthly gauge of the health of the labor market, called the labor market conditions index, beginning next Monday, the central bank announced Wednesday.

The report is an attempt to dig deeper into labor market trends beyond the standard monthly unemployment rate measure.

Fed Chairwoman Janet Yellen and her allies have argued that the improvement in the unemployment rate over the past year has overstated the strength of the labor market. How much slack remains in the economy is a key factor in how patient the central bank can be before lifting off short-term interest rates from zero.”

“The second possibility is one that virologists are loath to discuss openly but are definitely considering in private: that an Ebola virus could mutate to become transmissible through the air. You can now get Ebola only through direct contact with bodily fluids. But viruses like Ebola are notoriously sloppy in replicating, meaning the virus entering one person may be genetically different from the virus entering the next. The current Ebola virus’s hyper-evolution is unprecedented; there has been more human-to-human transmission in the past four months than most likely occurred in the last 500 to 1,000 years. Each new infection represents trillions of throws of the genetic dice.”

Hagel Authorizes 700 Soldiers for Liberia Deployment

    By Cheryl Pellerin
    DoD News, Defense Media Activity

WASHINGTON, Oct. 1, 2014 – Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has authorized the deployment of 700 soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division headquarters element to Liberia to help with the Ebola epidemic there, Pentagon Press Secretary Navy Rear Adm. John Kirby said here yesterday.

The soldiers will deploy in late October, Kirby told reporters during a briefing, and they will become the headquarter staff for the joint forces command, led by Army Maj. Gen. Gary J. Volesky.

“Gen. Volesky and his staff will assume overall command of the effort, and with his arrival, [Army] Maj. Gen. [Darryl A.] Williams will be able to return to his normal duties as the Army component commander for Africa command,” Kirby said.

    Construction troops

The Army will deploy another 700 soldiers from engineering units throughout the United States to supervise the construction of Ebola treatment units, conduct site surveys and provide engineering expertise, the admiral said, in an area with a range of infrastructure repair needs.”

  12. Front page this morning in the Charlotte Observer…..

Now that scared the hell out of me…I live here and to that means to me that our government intends to send EBOLA patients here…….

Obama is living up to his word…spread it all around…the good, the bad, and the evil……

America is not ready for this…….you and I are not ready for this.

  13. This thread/comment was lifted this morning from another website………

“Obola PSA, brought to you by Obolacare :

If you see something, say something.

If you see an African spewing sh*t. Please contact CDC. Do not attempt to clean up his sh*t, that’s our business, we will gladly clean up his sh*t…..”
Now this is some pretty sound advice coming from somebody……our country is now full of Africans spewing something all the time…….most of it is pure, unadulterated sh*t……..

If that sounds racist…well I guess I’m a racist….I never was until Obama became pResident.

  14. PRESIDENT OBOLA……this is a “no brainer”

Ebola has now entered the U.S. because of President Obama’s open-borders policy, charged talk-radio host Michael Savage.

Savage who has a doctorate in epidemiology, said Obama refused to employ the basic epidemiological rule of quarantining a deadly virus, “because the far-left agenda is to have an open-borders policy.”

Referring to the commander in chief as “President Obola,” Savage said on his nationally syndicated show Wednesday the “only solution is zero travel in and out of West Africa for any American.”

“You let nobody in from a country where you have a raging epidemic,” he said, emphasizing “microbes do not discriminate.”

“You isolate and you quarantine an entire nation, if necessary.”

Savage addressed the argument that it’s not practical to isolate an entire country or region.

“Is it practical to risk the spread of a killer illness?” he countered.

See the entire collection of Michael Savage bestsellers in the WND Superstore.

Ebola has killed more than 3,300 people in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone this year. But a statistical forecast released by the CDC last week said the virus could infect 1.4 million in Liberia and Sierra Leone by the end of January.

WND reported Wednesday a team of researchers published an article in a scientific journal last month warning a reduction in airline travel of as much as 80 percent would only delay the international spread of the disease by three to four weeks at most.

The scientists concluded Ebola is unstoppable without a total quarantine.

I wonder just how much a “full quarantine” would effect the Ebola virus if ONLY America placed a quarantine on travel in and out of the effected countries……when all of Europe is overrun with people from these infected countries….then all they would have to do is just get another ticket from France, Germany, or Italy and “COME TO AMERICA”…and please bring your Ebola along…..both are most welcome.

  15. Texas Says That Up to 100 Are at Risk of Ebola Exposure

Of those people, only a handful have been isolated, including family members and the medical technicians who rushed the patient, Thomas E. Duncan, to the hospital on Sunday. Most on the list are there simply because they had contact with people who had had contact with Mr. Duncan.

  16. Here is one you’ve got to read:

    Jihad’s Most Valuable Asset

  17. Here is a good article. (Hat tip to Fernley)
Dr. Mobley, who dressed in protective gear, said, “…..we will be importing clusters of Ebola victims daily (if all of the African nations get it) that will overwhelm any advanced country’s ability to contain the clusters in isolation and quarantine. That spells bad news.”

That is exactly my point. We have the top medical treatment available but do we have the apparatus fully in place to do the tedious ground work?

Also, the TX hospital is supposed to be one of the best, and yet, in spite of advanced instruction, the lady to whom he told of his coming from Liberia never transmitted that vital info to the rest of the team. So, right there was a breakdown in one of the most vital phases of the exam. Human error.

One more thing – Some of those on the “list” are being told to stay home. How is that going to be enforced? Are they on the honor system? The whole mess is wrought with pitfalls.

  18. Duncan, who came down with Ebola after arriving in the U.S., reportedly came here for treatment, because he knew he was at risk for contracting it, having helped carry a Liberian lady who was dying of the disease. How many others might follow suit? That is so selfish and inconsiderate to come here and knowingly expose family members.

  19. “Many sick in US Ebola patient’s Liberia hometown

Thomas Eric Duncan rushed to help his 19-year-old neighbor when she began convulsing days after first complaining of stomach pain. Everyone assumed her health problems were related to her being 7 months pregnant. Still, no ambulance came as Ebola decimates Liberia’s capital.

Soon Duncan, Marthalene Williams’ parents and several others tried to hoist her into a taxi cab bound for a hospital downtown. Within weeks, everyone who helped Williams that day was either sick or dead. The virus is spread through direct contact with saliva, sweat and blood, and all had touched the sick woman’s body.

Duncan is now hospitalized in a special isolation ward in Texas after he fell ill only after leaving Liberia, where nearly 2,000 people have died this year from Ebola. He was traveling to visit his family in the United States while still in Ebola’s incubation period, which can last up to 21 days, and officials said airport screeners in Monrovia did nothing wrong in letting him board the flight.

He has since become a symbol of how Ebola could spread within the United States. Here in Liberia, however, he is just another neighbor infected by a virulent Ebola cluster ravaging this neighborhood of tin-roof homes along 72nd SKD Boulevard.”'s-Liberia-hometown

  20. Ummm….Sorta guessed this from the obvious treatment of Mr. Netanyahu and Israel by the O regime from the beginning:

Report: Obama Sent Ambassador to Tehran to Assure Mullahs He Was Friend of Regime (Video)

Iranian expert Dr. Michael Ledeen was on with Mark Levin tonight to discuss Obama’s history with Tehran. Ledeen told Levin that Obama sent former Ambassador William G. Miller to Tehran in 2008 to assure the mullahs he was a friend of the regime.

Michael Ledeen wrote about Obama’s secret meetings with Tehran on August 29, 2014.

During his first presidential campaign in 2008, Mr. Obama used a secret back channel to Tehran to assure the mullahs that he was a friend of the Islamic Republic, and that they would be very happy with his policies. The secret channel was Ambassador William G. Miller, who served in Iran during the shah’s rule, as chief of staff for the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and as ambassador to Ukraine. Ambassador Miller has confirmed to me his conversations with Iranian leaders during the 2008 campaign.

BREAKING>>> Dallas Ebola Patient VOMITED WILDLY Outside Apartment On Way to Hospital

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital sent Duncan home on September 26 despite telling a nurese he had traveled to the United States from Ebola-ravaged West Africa.

Thomas Duncan was vomiting wildly outside of this apartment on the way to the hospital.
    Yahoo reported:

Two days after he was sent home from a Dallas hospital, the man who is the first person to be diagnosed with Ebola in the United States was seen vomiting on the ground outside an apartment complex as he was bundled into an ambulance.

“His whole family was screaming. He got outside and he was throwing up all over the place,” resident Mesud Osmanovic, 21, said on Wednesday, describing the chaotic scene before the man was admitted to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital on Sunday where he is in serious condition.

The hospital cited the man’s privacy as the reason for not identifying him. However, Gee Melish, who said he was a family friend, identified the man in Texas infected with Ebola as Thomas Eric Duncan.

Duncan’s sister Mai Wureh told the Associated Press it was her brother who is at the center of the country’s latest Ebola scare.

  23. I also read that the ambulance in which Duncan was taken to hospital was used for 48 hours afterwards.

  24. CabbyAZ…….
Krauthammer has his act together quite well. I am among those who take close heed of what he has to say. Insofar as Soetoro is concerned, he talks like a total JACKASS, and everytime he opens his mouth he confirms the fact that he hasn’t a clue about what he is trying to talk about. There are millions of American MORONS who still think he is the MESSIAH. Until those people injest a healthy dose of his BULLSHI# they will keep right on thinking as they do. Sadly they are largely the LOW information crowd, and it is unlikely that they would have a clue what is going on anywhere in the world,or even right under their own noses.

  25. A very large portion of our alleged society is now so dumbed down it is doubtful if any of them could discern a rock from a hard place…..or have the smarts to figure out how to fix it.

  26. If 700 American troops are going to be deployed to Weastern Africa, there is a better than 50% chance that NONE of them will return……and Soetoro, and Hagel should both FEEL THE WRATH of all of the American people for such an act.

BYE BYE! Have a great day!

  27. Why isn’t the public screaming at the fools in DC to stop all flights coming into the USA from the countries in Africa who have this disease running rampant? Saw today that our dear leaders were not going to do anything about stopping these flights. Nice.

How did the guy have enough money to pay for a ticket to get here? Rich? Family rich? What is the answer?

Is it True that he came knowing he was exposed to the disease in Liberia and wanted to be here where he could get treated with the right protocol if he came down with it? Saw this reported in a story earlier.

Clueless hospital messed up their own precautions and sent this guy back out into the public arena. Doesn’t everybody feel real safe now that we know how badly the people who supposedly knew what they’re doing really didn’t?

Why don’t any other western countries have cases of Ebola happening right now? Even in the EU where there are many immigrants from these African countries, I haven’t heard of one case of Ebola on their soil. Why do we have it and not any of them?

Call me a conspiracy nut, but I don’t believe a word of what the govt. officials are saying.

That is unless they have already stopped flights in and out of the infected areas…..

Due to news censorship most Americans are completely unaware that a major law enforcement agency determined after a 2,200 hour investigation that both Obama’s birth certificate and draft card were “poor amateur forgeries.”

  49. National Security Threats Brought Into Focus
by ROGER ARONOFF October 1, 2014

“[President Barack Obama] came into office believing that through the power of his personality, and the belief that if America changed its behavior, everything would be okay-that the problem was not the ideology of radical jihadists, the problem was America,” said former Congressman Pete Hoekstra.

On September 29th, I attended an EMPact America conference about the dangers a weakened America poses to the world, the necessity for a stronger military in the face of worldwide threats, and how America has switched sides in the War on Terror. It was a sobering and frightening look at a number of the issues that confront America today. One can’t possibly do justice in a single column to all of the outstanding speakers and panels assembled, but it is available online for viewing, and is well worth watching. Frank Gaffney of the Center for Security Policy was the main organizer and moderator of the event.

I will emphasize that there were four members of the Citizens’ Commission on Benghazi (CCB) who spoke. Among them, the aforementioned Pete Hoekstra, Admiral James “Ace” Lyons (Ret.), former CIA officer Clare Lopez, and former Congressman and Lt. Colonel Allen West (Ret.).

Among the threats discussed were the current conflict with the Islamic State, as well as al Qaeda and jihadists overrunning states such as Libya. Add to this Russian and Chinese aggression, and America’s lack of leadership is becoming painfully apparent.

Admiral James “Ace” Lyons criticized the Obama doctrine, which he said was to “embrace our enemies, undercut our allies, and, under the false premise that U.S. power has been the problem, you then undercut the U.S. military.”

Allen West and Ace Lyons both criticized the restrictive rules of engagement that our troops currently operate under. Admiral Lyons said that the restrictive rules have impacted “the will to win,” and that if we let our military do their jobs they will achieve victory. West said that we’re coming up with rules of engagement that benefit lawyers, not the men and women in combat.

The President believed that America could engage with moderate jihadists, said Hoekstra. Terrorists “have won in Libya, they’re winning in Syria and Iraq, and there’s nothing more attractive to get converts and to get help than to join a winning team,” he said.

Syria is also Libya all over again, he asserted. This can be seen today with the recent Congressional decision to send $500 million to arm the Syrian rebels-which the government has claimed it is in the process of vetting. This comes at the same time that some members of our U.S. military are receiving pink slips, West emphasized.

  52. Wow: Allen West Just Got Fed Up With Obama’s Latest Lies And Lost His Mind In An EPIC Rant

“…ain’t listening to your lies anymore.”

In a 60 Minutes interview that included Obama passing the buck for his botched reaction to the growing ISIS terrorist threat, it was another remark that caught the attention of retired Army Lt. Col. Allen West.

The former Republican congressman explained on his blog Thursday that Obama cavalierly asserted the nation is better off than it was prior to his 2008 election. In response, West pointed out several empirical facts he feels disprove that contention.

“We are at an all-time low for the workforce participation rate,” he wrote. “Poverty has increased and food stamp recipients are up from 31 million to 47 million. Home ownership is down and gas prices are still high compared to the $1.89 when he came into office.”

West also criticized the increased role of the Federal Reserve during Obama’s tenure, noting the nation’s debt has jumped by nearly $7 trillion since his inauguration. To combat this runaway spending, he wrote, the Fed continues to print more money and, in turn, usher in inflation.

As Obama prepared for a speech at Northwestern University being billed as a discussion of the U.S. economy, West contrasted what the president likely would say with what the American people deserve to hear.

“The discussion has to be about tax, regulatory, government, and monetary reforms that reignite a free market economic explosion,” he wrote “—instead we have a government spending-driven economy. Instead of Obama attacking private sector businesses with increased taxation and regulations, forcing more to escape his economic tyranny, he should advance reforms that enable the captains of industry to produce and manufacture more right here.”

West lambasted Obama’s energy policy, which he said includes preventing private entities from exploring new resources. Furthermore, he cited healthcare failures, the spread of disease throughout the U.S., the border crisis, and the rise in terrorist threats around the world.

“No B. Hussein,” West concluded, “we’re not better off than we were six years ago – and sadly we still have two more years of you. Go ahead and make your speech at Northwestern University, because everyone other than your kool-aid drinking progressive socialist acolytes ain’t listening to your lies anymore.”

  55. ISIS Plans On Sending Muslims Infected With Ebola Into America To Infect And Kill Americans
    Theodore Shoebat

The statement from ISIS said that:
The process of spreading disease is not difficult, it is easily transported in a bottle in your bag and take them from Africa to America and open in a air-conditioning duct or put it in the public drinking water by elevator doors
The statement from ISIS also said:
The process of cultivating bacteria can be done by any student in the Faculty of Science or Department of Biology. They do not need complex laboratories and even a makeshift laboratory can be made in a small apartment in which we can farm millions of germs and viruses

  56. Delay in Dallas Ebola Cleanup as Workers Balk at Task

Our government is just not prepared to handle the nitty-gritty when a person becomes ill in a home setting. Our wonderful hospitals are equipped to care for such critically ill patients, etc., but disposing of the waste that occurs outside of the hospital seems to be beneath the pay grade of CDC. The Duncan situation has certainly been bungled.

“A freelance cameraman working for NBC News in Liberia has contracted the Ebola virus, the fourth American known to have contracted the disease in Liberia.

As a precaution, NBC News ordered the production team working with the cameraman, which includes Dr. Nancy Snyderman, the network’s top medical correspondent, to return to the United States and enter quarantine for 21 days.”

‘Full-Blown Cover-Up’: Levin Says Obama Knew About ISIS for Years
Even CNN questions Obama’s blame game……….

How could Obama have ‘underestimated’ ISIS?
By Kevin Liptak, CNN White House Producer

Washington (CNN) — ISIS, a top intelligence official said more than a year ago, has “ruthlessly grown in effectiveness.”

In October a senior administration official said the terror group represented “a major and increasing threat” — to the region and the United States.

Eight months ago, the military’s top intelligence official warned ISIS “will attempt to take territory.”

ISIS threat: Syrian town fears massacre

Those were the public assessments of ISIS coming from President Barack Obama’s own administration dating back more than a year. So why is the President saying now his intelligence agencies misjudged the terror group, currently being pummeled by U.S. and coalition airstrikes?

unemployment rate declined to 5.9 percent” (ha ha)

“The civilian labor force participation rate, at 62.7 percent, changed little in
September. The employment-population ratio was 59.0 percent for the fourth
    consecutive month. (See table A-1.)

The number of persons employed part time for economic reasons (sometimes referred
to as involuntary part-time workers) was little changed in September at 7.1 million.
These individuals, who would have preferred full-time employment, were working part
time because their hours had been cut back or because they were unable to find a
    full-time job. (See table A-8.)

In September, 2.2 million persons were marginally attached to the labor force,
essentially unchanged from a year earlier. (The data are not seasonally adjusted.)
These individuals were not in the labor force, wanted and were available for work,
and had looked for a job sometime in the prior 12 months. They were not counted as
unemployed because they had not searched for work in the 4 weeks preceding the survey.

Why, the United States of course, through the CDC of the Health and Human Services Division……

Pat. number, date, and definition below:

  67. sorry I didn’t attach the pat….

The U.S. Center for Disease Control owns a patent on a particular strain of Ebola known as “EboBun.” It’s patent No. CA2741523A1 and it was awarded in 2010.
You can view it here. (Thanks to Natural News readers who found this and brought it to their attention.)

Patent applicants are clearly described on the patent as including:
The Government Of The United States Of America As Represented By The Secretary, Department Of Health & Human Services, Center For Disease Control.

The patent summary says, “The invention provides the isolated human Ebola (hEbola) viruses denoted as Bundibugyo (EboBun) deposited with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”; Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America) on November 26, 2007 and accorded an accession number 200706291.”
Now isn’t this strange…….why would America own a patent of a killer disease that is going to take down 90% of the worlds population…if unchecked?

  68. the article went on to say;….

It goes on to state, “The present invention is based upon the isolation and identification of a new human Ebola virus species, EboBun. EboBun was isolated from the patients suffering from hemorrhagic fever in a recent outbreak in Uganda.”

  69. RMINNC…….
Here is an encouraging thought……….the climate in which Ebola allegedly evolved is a dank, damp, and hot climate. I can’t help wondering how this virus would do in a cold, and in the not too distant future freezing envorinment. It is conceivable that the virus has no defense mechanism against a cold and subcold environment. If it cannot withstand being in such an environment it would be unable to promulgate.

Throughout my lifetime I have learned that when conditions are really tight you change your lifestyle to match. I have NEVER had to return home. I settled for a half a loaf of bread instead of the whole loaf. Yet we did not starve. We simply done some INVENTING…..otherwise known as IMPROVISING.
