Shirley Sherrod story, Rest of story, Media coverage, Pigford v Glickman, Obama

Has anyone out there heard Fox or any other major media player cover the complete Shirley Sherrod story and her connection to the controversy in the Pigford v Glickman payouts to black farmers? This story has been hovering in my mind for several weeks.

On February 23, 2010 Drill Down reported the following.

“Last Thursday, February 18th, 2010; the United States Department of Agriculture agreed to pay “Black Farmers” an additional 1.25 billion dollars to settle a previously “settled” class action discrimination suit.”

“Accordingly, in the 2008 “Farms Bill” House version known as “H.R.2419 Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008” section “4012. DETERMINATION ON MERITS OF PIGFORD CLAIMS,” inserted 100 million dollars for money to be paid for those claimants denied due to untimely filing. A corresponding provision was inserted into the Senate version of the Bill by then Senator Barack Obama. In a public statement, NBFA President John Boyd Jr. explained that it would take “billions” to settle the claims, but that “he had to accept” the 100 million to keep the suit alive.

Last Thursday, Obama, Holder, and the USDA, proved Boyd correct by agreeing to pay an additional 1.15 billion dollars to honor the “late” filers under the original settlement. There are now more than 70,000 claims of discrimination pending adjudication. Yes, that’s 70,000 IN ADDITION TO the original 22,000 claims; making the total number of claims almost 100,000. Or, roughly 4 times more than the total number of black farms in existence at the time of the alleged discrimination. The allocated funds which now exceed 2 billion dollars, will clearly be insufficient to honor all of the pending claims.”

American Thinker reported the following on July 21, 2010.

“Shirley Sherrod’s quick dismissal from the Obama administration may have had less to do with her comments on race before the NAACP than her long involvement in the aptly named Pigford case, a class action against the US government on behalf of black farmers alleging that the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) had discriminated against black farmers during the period from 1983 through 1997.”

“So where does Sherrod come into this picture?  In a special to the Washington Examiner, Tom Blumer explains  that Sherrod and the group she formed along with family members and others, New Communities. Inc. received the largest single settlement under Pigford.
… New Communities is due to receive approximately $13 million ($8,247,560 for loss of land and $4,241,602 for loss of income; plus $150,000 each to Shirley and Charles for pain and suffering). There may also be an unspecified amount in forgiveness of debt. This is the largest award so far in the minority farmers law suit (Pigford vs Vilsack).
What makes this even more interesting to me is that Charles appears to be Charles Sherrod, who was a big player in the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee in the early 1960s.  The SNCC was the political womb that nurtured the Black Power movement and the Black Panthers before it faded away.
Blumer has some questions about this settlement and about Sherrod’s rapid departure from the USDA
•Was Ms. Sherrod’s USDA appointment an unspoken condition of her organization’s settlement?
•How much “debt forgiveness” is involved in USDA’s settlement with New Communities?
•Why were the Sherrods so deserving of a combined $300,000 in “pain and suffering” payments — amounts that far exceed the average payout thus far to everyone else? ($1.15 billion divided by 16,000 is about $72,000)?
•Given that New Communities wound down its operations so long ago (it appears that this occurred sometime during the late 1980s), what is really being done with that $13 million in settlement money?
Here are a few bigger-picture questions:
•Did Shirley Sherrod resign so quickly because the circumstances of her hiring and the lawsuit settlement with her organization that preceded it might expose some unpleasant truths about her possible and possibly sanctioned conflicts of interest?
•Is USDA worried about the exposure of possible waste, fraud, and abuse in its handling of Pigford?
•Did USDA also dispatch Sherrod hastily because her continued presence, even for another day, might have gotten in the way of settling Pigford matters quickly?”

From BigGovernment.com August 26, 2010.

““After all the friendly gestures between Secretary Vilsack and Mrs. Sherrod, there are still several questions unanswered. Why is Secretary Vilsack taking responsibility for the decision when Mrs. Sherrod has maintained she was contacted by the White House? Did the White House demand Secretary Vilsack fire Mrs. Sherrod? Is she still being paid by the federal government? Has Mrs. Sherrod agreed not to file another lawsuit against Secretary Vilsack or the federal government? Was Shirley Sherrod granted an additional settlement in exchange for her silence and an agreement not to sue Vilsack again? Why is Mrs. Sherrod filing suit against Andrew Breitbart, but hugging the man who fired her?””

AFL-CIO Joins Communists, La Raza, ACLU, Other Unions in Voter Registration Drive

Looks like the AFL-CIO is no longer even trying to hide the fact that it no longer sports a traditionally American political outlook. The labor union has announced that it is joining a voter registration drive called One Nation Working Together. This coalition is filled with some of the most extremely leftist groups in America today including the ACLU, Enviro extremists, La Raza, Code Pink, various anti-war groups, and the Communist Party USA.

  10. CW – As soon as I saw Sherrod was involved with SNCC (Student Non Violent Coordinating Comm), I knew there would be corruption involved. I hope everyone remembers the infamous D.C. Mayor Marion Barry. He was SNCC’s first President in the early 60’s here in Washington. Here is his wikipedia.

  12. I don’t understand this lawsuit …were there any WHITE farmers involved in this case? If so, did they receive any of this 1.25billion settlement? Did the Department of Ag only discriminate against black farmers during the noted period? How could the settlement involve four times the number of black farmers that existed at the time of the initial suit?……..fuzzy math to me.

Is Barry Soetero a hyphenated American?

Theodore Roosevelt said: “There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all. This is just as true of the man who puts ‘native’ before the hyphen as of the man who puts German or Irish or English or French before the hyphen. Americanism is a matter of the spirit and of the soul. Our allegiance must be purely to the United States. Wc must unsparingly condemn any man who holds any other allegiance. But if he is heartily and singly loyal to this Republic, then no matter where he was born, he is just as good an American as any one else. The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, IrishAmericans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans, or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality than with the other citizens of the American Republic. The men who do not become Americans and nothing else are hyphenated Americans; and there ought to be no room for them in this country. The man who calls himself an American citizen and who yet shows by his actions that he is primarily the citizen of a foreign land, plays a thoroughly mischievous part in the life of our body politic. He has no place here; and the sooner he returns to the land to which he feels his real heart-allegiance, the better it will be for every good American. There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.”—T. Roosevelt, Fear God and take your own part, pp. 361-363.

We’re not talking about a handful of mosques, and the schools associated with them. As of 9/11, there were at least 1,200. Most are radical. The American Sufi leader Sheik Hisham Kabbani, who founded the Islamic Supreme Council of America to combat the influence of radical (Saudi) Wahhabis in the United States, testified at a State Department hearing that 80 percent of the nation’s mosques were under radical influence or outright control.

More hogs “feeding at the trough”, and it appears that Sherrods are the biggest. Talk about corruption! You know, all of this stuff is coming at us so fast and furious, that it is unlikely that justice will ever be done – at least in this life. We are reaching critical mass.

  27. Jonah……………………………………………..
Received bad news today. Public Library has only what they referred to as a small collection of passports. They are from the early to late 1800s. Not what I am interested in. The Geneaologist that I talked to suggested the State Department. Oh well so much for library geneologists .At this juncture it is clear that Fort Wayne Public Library will not be of any help. Perhaps there are some libraries around who do have some LATER passport records. I will be researching this notion. It is possible that passport records in public forum may be against the law. Like a CENSUS record it is put into public access only after it has become at least 100years of age. It is a little discouraging when you think that the information you are looking for is right before you,and all you need to do is walk in and take a peek. I personally think that it would not even be productive to look in the Salt Lake City Archives.

  28. Jonah……………………………………..
I have also been thinking about hunting down OLD AIRLINE records. But first I need to come up with a list of all airlines that flew from London to both Nairobi, and Mombassa. and had connecting flights to the US from London. POE records could be either at New York, or at SEA -TAC. International. I am not sure if Sea Tac was a point of US entry in the 60s. I need information in that regard as well. I am sure that Pan Am was one of the Airlines. Anybody out there who can add info to this ,please feel free to comment. ALL HELP IS WELCOME!

  30. oldsalt,

1960’s passports may not be available for public view yet.

The U.S. census records are unavailable for 72 years so in 2012 we’ll be able to see the 1940 census.

The most recent records on Ancestry.com of Border Crossings: From Canada to U.S., covers 1895-1956. But I’ll keep looking.

  31. Cabby in Az 12:59pm

Yep, Cabby I fear your right…but thank God we have the internet to tell us the truth…can you just imagine what it would be like if we have only MSNBC, CBS, ABC, NBC, and FOX to rely on for accurate news, unbias and uncut…I think we would be “up s – – t creek without a paddle” !

I can hardly wait till November to see exactly what our new Congress will investigate. I hope they start with O’s birth certificate…that could bring the whole house of cards down in one fell swoop on his pen head.

But of course one very real potentiality is that they will choose to do nothing. For several reasons: 1) they have “better” things to do, getting on with the business of the people, 2) they want to preserve the dignity of the office and will preemptorily pardon and forget everything, 3) they fear starting an escalating arms race where each incoming administration or change of congress nuclear bombs the previous.

  33. Citizen Carlyle (FUBO)

PS – of course people like Darrel Issa will continue to probe very specific crimes. I’m just saying they will never touch the eligibility and hidden records issues. If they were going to, they would have already.

    ***********************************
I fear that you are probably right, unless the people continue to clamor and put pressure on their congressmen; however, unfortunately, the longer the NBC issue exists the less likely Congress is apt to act on it in particular.

Their thinking will be “for the sake of the Union” and its preservation, just let the sleeping lion lie and hope for the best. Oh, if we get a GOP majority in both houses, then they probably will go to work trying to undo the damage BHO has done, like repealing Obamacare, etc..

So they will try to “repair” the damage done by this criminal but let the criminal continue on.
Won’t their thinking be, “Well, it’s only two more years and he will be out of office anyway.”? Shame! Shame!
