By January 9, 1788, five states of the nine necessary for ratification had approved the Constitution–Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, and Connecticut. But the eventual outcome remained uncertain in pivotal states such as Massachusetts, New York, and Virginia. On February 6, withFederalists agreeing to recommend a list of amendments amounting to a bill of rights, Massachusetts ratified by a vote of 187 to 168. The revolutionary leader, John Hancock, elected to preside over the Massachusetts ratifying convention but unable to make up his mind on the Constitution, took to his bed with a convenient case of gout. Later seduced by the Federalists with visions of the vice presidency and possibly the presidency, Hancock, whom Madison noted as “an idolater of popularity,” suddenly experienced a miraculous cure and delivered a critical block of votes. Although Massachusetts was now safely in the Federalist column, the recommendation of a bill of rights was a significant victory for the anti-Federalists. Six of the remaining states later appended similar recommendations.
When the New Hampshire convention was adjourned by Federalists who sensed imminent defeat and when Rhode Island on March 24 turned down the Constitution in a popular referendum by an overwhelming vote of 10 to 1, Federalist leaders were apprehensive. Looking ahead to the Maryland convention, Madison wrote to Washington, “The difference between even a postponement and adoption in Maryland may . . . possibly give a fatal advantage to that which opposes the constitution.” Madison had little reason to worry. The final vote on April 28 63 for, 11 against. In Baltimore, a huge parade celebrating the Federalist victory rolled. through the downtown streets, highlighted by a 15-foot float called “Ship Federalist.” The symbolically seaworthy craft was later launched in the waters off Baltimore and sailed down the Potomac to Mount Vernon.
On July 2, 1788, the Confederation Congress, meeting in New York, received word that a reconvened New Hampshire ratifying convention had approved the Constitution. With South Carolina’s acceptance of the Constitution in May, New Hampshire thus became the ninth state to ratify. The Congress appointed a committee “for putting the said Constitution into operation.”
In the next 2 months, thanks largely to the efforts of Madison and Hamilton in their own states, Virginia and New York both ratified while adding their own amendments. The margin for the Federalists in both states, however, was extremely close. Hamilton figured that the majority of the people in New York actually opposed the Constitution, and it is probable that a majority of people in the entire country opposed it. Only the promise of amendments had ensured a Federalist victory.”

The 55 writers of the U.S. Constitution consisted of: 26 Episcopalians, 11 Presbyterians, 7 Congregationalists, 2 Lutherans, 2 Dutch Reformed, 2 Methodists, 2 Roman Catholics, 2 Quakers and 1 Deist – Dr. Franklin, who called for prayer during the Constitutional Convention, June 28, 1787: “I therefore beg leave to move – that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessing on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning.”
The Journal of the U.S. House of Representatives, March 27, 1854, recorded the unanimous vote of the 33rd Congress to print Congressman James Meacham’s report, which stated: “At the adoption of the Constitution, we believe every State – certainly 10 of the 13 – provided as regularly for the support of the Church as for the support of the Government…Down to the Revolution, every colony did sustain religion in some form. It was deemed peculiarly proper that the religion of liberty should be upheld by a free people.”
Congressman Meacham concluded: “Had the people, during the Revolution, had a suspicion of any attempt to war against Christianity, that Revolution would have been strangled in its cradle.”

Normally I wouldn’t think too much of a report by AP but for once they shed some light on one thing I’ve been pointing out about the Gulf spill.
In their report said that the total amount of oil spilled into the gulf would only fill one seventh of the Superdome. While that seems like a lot, try this. Go to Google maps and find the superdome. Switch to Satellite and zoom out until you see the gulf. It’s amazing how fast the Superdome disappears.
It’s not that much oil. At least not enough to completely destroy the gulf like the media keeps reporting.
My point is the Media is doing much more damage to the lives and economy of the Gulf than the oil is. They are the ones scaring away tourists and business. They should pay as much in damages as BP does.

I’m not a scientist or engineer, but comparing the volume of oil to 1/7 of Superdome appears to be lacking in good reasoning, because
the presence of the oil is manifest so much more since it rises to the top. It doesn’t seem to be a fair analysis to compare the volume (or space) which the oil takes up with the volume of water in the Gulf. The oil, in rising to top, spreads out over a large surface area.
Of course, the amount of oil will be relatively small compared to the ocean, but the damage is significant and far-reaching. Furthermore, the gusher continues to spew forth with increasing danger to wildlife and humans. Another factor is the toxicity involved which has yet to be fully determined.
The Judge promised an expedited ruling, many lawsuits brought by all of the other oil companies.

The April 20 disaster killed 11 workers and blew out a well that has gushed anywhere from 68 million to 126 millions of oil into the Gulf.

Yes, I agree, William. There are projections and assumptions all over the ballpark. It does take some discernment and sense to put the hypotheses in perspective.
Talk about forest fires in AZ. I just heard that there are now several serious ones in the Flagstaff area but haven’t been able yet to determine the cause. The winds are high and it is very dry.

I’m not trying to make light of anything. This is a horrible disaster but it’s not the worst environmental disaster we’ve had in recent times as the Media is reporting. Mt Saint Helen’s destroyed millions of trees, Thousands of deer and bear, hundreds of thousands of small birds and animals and millions of fish boiled alive in the water. The area still hasn’t recovered.
But this form of Crude Type C has a low toxicity level because it’s unrefined. It’s still toxic of course but It’s not poisoning the wildlife rather it’s Suffocating them. If it was really Toxic would they even bother cleaning up the wildlife considering how much they probably swallowed? Also this oil contains a large amount of paraffin or Wax. Which is what makes it sticky. So it’s not spreading out in a thin even sheen but clumping together in a large mass instead of spreading out so much in the water. Which is good. That does make it easier to clean up which is the only thing we should be focusing on right now.

This is part of the devastation for the Gulf residents, shutting down the wells. I think all the other oil companies are suing Exxon, etc. seemed like they said lots of suits. These folks want/need to work, another thing that is hurting is anything involved with the water, the tourist trade they are down by half. People seem to think that oil is all over down there but it isn’t. If folks still want to go on vacation they should check the city, the cities web-site-the folks will let you know if their area is cool or not. Great for the folks who don’t like crowds-also it could be very educational.

The reporting on the spill has been so spotty that I can see all the mistrust and confusion. BP has a vested interest in keeping the figure low, due to the fine is based on that figure, Obama admin is so screwed up that I would not expect anything reliable out of them so it is “normal” scientists, all the folks on the water, various reporters who have guts enough to face the citizens-did you see the video I posted about the Keys-they said we’ll do it ourselves-it is their area of the world and they don’t trust BP or admin.after seeing the great work they have done so far and to think everyone’s taxes go to pay these idiots-I hope all the different inventors and inventions and there are so many wins the day, my favorite is the microbes-I want to see the result of this clean in 6 weeks with goldfish that look like whales-chow down little critters. The people are trying to help one another because they understand all the ramifications-I have never seen a government operation run this bad.

“The OPA amended the Federal authority in § 311 to respond to spills. Prior to the OPA, § 311 authorized the President to respond to discharges of oil and hazardous substances, but there was significant latitude for private cleanup efforts by the discharger. Following the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill, Congress enacted the Oil Pollution Act of 1990. The OPA amended the Clean Water Act (CWA) §311, including changes to spill response authorities.
The language is clear and unambiguous: the President is mandated to take action to clean up the spill and mitigate or prevent damage to the environment.
Prior to the amendment, the President had “significant latitude” in outsourcing the clean up. Per the OPA, the President’s removal authority should be carried out through the “creation and implementation of facility and response plans.”
§311 further requires that the President issue regulations “establishing procedures, methods, equipment, and other requirements to prevent discharge of oil and hazardous substances from vessels and facilities and to contain such discharges.”
In other words, the President was required to have extensive plans and procedures in place in the event of a spill.
And if a spill occurred, the President has sole responsibility for the cleanup and environmental protection.
We know that Obama is familiar with this particular federal statute. In fact, he’s a big fan of expanding it. He’s ignoring it at the moment, but will embrace it again when it’s time shake BP down again.
The president who had no compunctions about taking over car companies and banks has failed to take responsibility in one case in which he not only has legal authority to do so; but has a federal directive requiring it.

“Given the multitude of alarming examples of foreknowledge, motivation for sabotage, and clear evidence of deliberate malfeasance and negligence, state authorities in Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi need to immediately launch a mammoth criminal investigation into the role of BP, Halliburton and the federal government in causing the oil spill disaster, as well as their continuing cover-up of the true nature of the crisis, in addition to their efforts to block local authorities as well as foreign companies from helping to both stop the oil leak and clean up the devastation it has caused.”
They have other problems which are getting lost in this 11 men were killed, murder one 11 counts, negligent homocide 11 counts, conspiracy to commit murder 11 counts, plus I’m sure all of these gentlemen carried insurance so that would be another group looking at this-and there a witnesses-the guys that were blown off the rig and Thank God they lived. All his crises (self generated) have back fired in more ways than one. I wish someone would tell him it’s not all about him. That crazy campaign-they have created a Frankenstein Monster, he really believes the stuff they said about him and he seems to be getting loonier by the day.
The people rallied over 100,000 ideas sent to assist the Gulf, some detailed here are very creative using existing technology. I think once they grasped the idea that the Obama gov’t was useless, BP has other issues and they were essentially on their own they are starting to make some progress.

PORT FOURCHON, La. — Kevin Costner is taking Hollywood star power and some oil-separating centrifuges to the fight against the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
“I didn’t come here to save the day,” Costner told reporters, according to the BBC. “I have come to participate.”
Costner also has described the business decision to sell machines to BP as not being a “Hollywood ending.”
Energy giant BP PLC has ordered 32 of the centrifuges from Ocean Therapy Solutions, a company co-founded by the actor. Costner joined officials of the energy company for an inspection Friday of a barge that was to take three of the devices into the Gulf starting over the weekend.
Officials said skimmer vessels will pump oily water onto the barge where the centrifuges can process a total of 600,000 gallons a day, separating gunk from water. Costner said he is gratified the technology is being deployed.
“This machine was designed… to fight for you,” Costner said, according to the BBC.
Costner and BP executive Doug Suttles and others were at Port Fourchon on Friday to talk about the plan to use the centrifuges.
“It was designed to give us a fighting chance, to fight back the oil before it got us by the throat,” Costner said.
The devices will be used in deep water where oil is being skimmed.
Skimmers will pump oily water onto the barges, where the centrifuges will separate water from the oil. The three can process a total of 600,000 gallons a day, according to Costner’s business partner, John Houghtaling II.
Suttles said BP signed a letter of intent to use the machines within hours of his first conversation with Costner on May 18 and completed the first test within days.
Meanwhile, Louisiana officials have their own ideas and are getting creative in their bid to remove the oil from ecologically sensitive marshes.
National Guard officials figured that if vacuum trucks can be mobilized to empty septic tanks and port-a-johns, there’s no reason the concept couldn’t be applied to the mess in the water. And Plaquemines Parish workers are experimenting with ordinary shop vacuums, the kind people use to clean their cars, to suck oil from marshes.

While I am not sure exactly what Dr. Deagle was alluding to, I think what he meant is that a small (kiloton) device could be used to collapse the casing in on itself, which would at least substantially impede the flow of oil, and gases through the well. With any luck it IS possible that if the NUKE was passed to perhaps 3000 to 500ofeet below the sea floor the detonation could even seal the well.
I spent several hours today at MIT database researching the notion of using a tactical nuke to seal the well. I wasn’t too successful,but did manage to corroborate by belief that the well casing could be collapsed in on itself by using explosive forces properly placed at a predetermined depth below the sea floor. But it is extremely risky. After the blocking of the casing it is possible that the methane pressure could build again to an extremely high level,which could eject the entire casing. If this happened the result could become a catastrophe for the entire northern portion of the GULF. It is even possible that the entire methane bubble could explode. If this were to occur then all bets are off regarding the survival of anyone within a 75 mile radius. Such an explosion following a tactical nuke detonation could eject radioactive debris over a very wide area,because the explosion would generate a force equal to an exponent of 10 squared. As Dr.Deagle said,the explosion itself could take out one hell of a chunk of the Gulf coast. It is likely that this would be quickly followed by a tsunami that would wipe entire cities away along the coast. While this is all CONJECTURE, it remains POSSIBLE if explosives are used in an attempt to seal the well. However it is an option which will have to be carefully weighed. However there are still better options, one of which is the possibility that the two relief wells will be enough of a vent to allow the well to quickly be permanently sealed. My gut keeps telling me that both of the rigs that are drilling the relief wells face the possibility of being destroyed just as was Horizon. Drilling the relief wells are really dangerous undertakings. If either one of them is blown up then there will be absolute proof of the existence of the high pressure gas pocket. The worst possible outcome of venting off this gas is that it could also carry other deadly gasses with it, in which case hundreds of thousands of people who live and work in close proximity are at risk. Again this is only CONJECTURE, but it is ALL POSSIBLE. Until we can measure the exact pressure level below the well head, we can ONLY guess.

WASHINGTON — The top U.S. war commander in Afghanistan told an interviewer he felt betrayed by the man the White House chose to be his diplomatic partner, Ambassador Karl Eikenberry.
An article out this week in “Rolling Stone” magazine depicts Gen. Stanley McChrystal as a lone wolf on the outs with many important figures in the Obama administration and unable to convince even some of his own soldiers that his strategy can win the war.
A band of McChrystal’s profane, irreverent aides are quoted mocking Vice President Joe Biden and Richard Holbrooke, the special U.S. representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan.
McChrystal himself is described by an aide as “disappointed” in his first Oval Office meeting with an unprepared President Barack Obama. The article says that although McChrystal voted for Obama, the two failed to connect from the start. Obama called McChrystal on the carpet last fall for speaking too bluntly about his desire for more troops.
“I found that time painful,” McChrystal said in the article, on newsstands Friday. “I was selling an unsellable position.”
Obama agreed to dispatch an additional 30,000 U.S. troops to Afghanistan only after months of study that many in the military found frustrating. And the White House’s troop commitment was coupled with a pledge to begin bringing them home in July 2011, in what counterinsurgency strategists advising McChrystal regarded as an arbitrary deadline.
