Romney concedes Iowa to Rick Santorum, Recount gave Santorum more votes

Rush Limbaugh just announced that Mitt Romney has conceded Iowa to Rick Santorum after a recount gave Santorum the edge. Earlier the contest had been declared a tie due to some votes being missing.

From ABC News January 19, 2012.

“Rick Santorum collected more caucus votes in Iowa  by the state party’s final count, but we’ll never know who really won.

The Republican Party of Iowa announced Thursday morning that the final, certified count shows Santorum winning by 34 votes. But eight precincts’ results were not available for certification, the party announced, telling the Des Moines Register that it will never be recovered.

The current, incomplete count: 29,839 votes for Santorum and 29,805 for Mitt Romney.

On caucus night, precinct officials phoned in results to an automated system  after they’d counted the votes by hand. As the last precincts reported their votes, the tally swung back and forth into the wee hours of Jan. 4. Since the Iowa Republican Party announced on caucus night that Romney had edged Santorum by a mere eight votes, it has been collecting certified results forms from Iowa’s counties and precincts.

Thursday’s results are final. Santorum will forever hold a lead with incomplete returns.”

Officials discovered inaccuracies in 131 precincts, with changes in one precinct alone shifting the vote by 50.
    ***************************************************

What’s the matter with the folks doing the counting? For pity sakes, each precinct SHOULD be able to properly tally their votes, AND someone should be in charge of managing the collection of the records from each precinct. How hard can that be? Lack of organization, methinks, or some funny business going on? Wow, if this is typical of the inability of Americans to get things right, we are in real trouble.

  4. I heard today from a local political insider that MOST of the SMEARS done against Gingrich were perpetrated by the ROMNEY campaign. The LIBS simply saved their money and said “Romney was doing such a good job of attacking Gingrich that they wouldn’t be expending any effort to add to it”. Apparently Soetoro himself commented that the Republicans were ALL doing such a great job of beating up on each other that probably the Democratic party would not be able to do any further damage.

  5. CabbyAZ…………………
Where, and when did we hear this miscount crap……..was it Minnesota, was it Missouri, was it Florida? Oh well, here we go again, and again, and again. The OBOTS are really at work!

  6. ……….it does prove my point……….the so called vote counters, don’t have enough fingers, so they………TAKE A GUESS!

  7. …….CAN HAYSEEDS COUNT PAST 10?

  8. ………BURP!!!!! Must have been all the ABSENTEE BALLOTS.

  9. I watched several of the precincts counting the votes on Cspan

Each vote was handwritten on a small piece of paper. All the papers were divided into stacks…one stack for each candidate. Then every stack was counted twice by 2 different people and tallied. A percentage of the total vote was then assigned to each candidate. How hard is THAT???
I don’t see how they could have misread any names….none are similar

Now, if they had hired Union vote counters, I could see where the process might get a bit trickier…

  10. ……….Makes me wonder how many times NEW HAMPSHIRE will CHANGE their vote tally,as well. Hell they don’t even care if a candidate is Constitutionally eligible to even legally be on the ballot to begin with. Long as you tender the PAYOLA, an LIE a little you can be on the New Hampshire ballot.

    Hey All,

I saw a friend of mine last night at the bowling alley who is in the National Guard and has been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.

It was good to see him, it’s been a while, and he said that he was being deployed again in July.

I asked him how he felt about our presence in the middle east and he flat out told me that BOTH Iraqis and Afghanies wanted us OUT.

He told me about how when we first went in to Iraq, the people were welcoming of us, but during each deployment after that the people became more and more irritated that we were still there.

And seriously, just look at what is happening in Iraq. There is chaos, and it is pretty well known that the Iranians are trying to get a foothold in Iraq.

I submit that we should have left Iraq right after Sadam was captured. We should have drawn down AFTER our mission was completed. The same thing would have happened, and we wouldn’t be blamed for it.

But no, we stay there for year after year trying to influence THEIR Government.

The same thing will happen in Afghanistan, I predict. Within a year of us leaving the Taliban, or some other “radical” group will seize power in Afghanistan.

But yet we have WAISTED 7 or 8 years of money and manpower NATION BUILDING.

    No wonder they hate us.

  21. IB, I wasn’t going to post this over here, but after reading your post at 7:47 pm decided that folks should know about what is going on in Afghanistan. It is with a very heavy heart and great disgust but I feel people need to know, and that we should confront our leaders as to why our military should be risking their lives each and every day to protect the continuation of such vile practices.

    ===============================
And strange that when Romney suddenly, at the time of the confusion for the final end count, when Rove was on the phone while on FOX seeming to have a kitten over the chance of Santorum pulling it out, found 8 votes over Santorum….but it took a lay person who was present at a counting who personally wrote down what the vote actually was at the time which was something like 20 votes in the other direction to force a correct recount. So for days now we’ve had the media telling us over and over that “a win is a win no matter how small” and now trying to rob Santorum of an even victory. The true number of conservatives in this country should not identify these days with the Repubs or you are simply prolonging the fraud with the usual suspects. And one of the biggest frauds going while no one is questioning him on it is Paul using the Republican party as his vehicle to attempt the complete opposite to what the party supposedly stands for!

Yes, and he completely negated his original point of being taught in OBGYN that with a pregnancy you always have two patients when he went rambling on about waiting for the culture/morality to change again without laws interfering to protect the unborn. Well, that certainly sounds like the only ones to consider are those already permitted to continue living.

  39. Pat 1789, it sounds as though you are reacting because Romney didn’t as well tonight. I believe that Santorum won the debate, but that doesn’t mean he will win Sat.

  40. Should be, “didn’t do as well”. Sorry.

  41. Why would my comment re. Romney’s tax returns go into moderation? Strange.

  42. I’m going to break it up.
I don’t understand Romney on his tax return release. He’ll do it in April, but by that time some crucial primaries will be over.

  43. He need not be ashamed of the amount of income, because everyone knows he is wealthy. It could be the type of income on the return, plus a low rate of tax.

  44. It has been said that there are a great deal of investments held offshore. Maybe 2011 will look better than 2010?

  45. My take, Newt was outstanding. Romney was solid, but could have been stronger on taxes. Santorum attacked all night which was excellent. He did really well, but also looked almost desperate by the end as it got to be too much. Paul actually did okay with no major gaffs, but it was not strong enough to win anything in SC.

  46. 3rd installment still in moderation after two attempts.

  47. I am in moderation too. I thought my comments were pretty harmless.

Damon was involved in unnecessary blood testing, and bilked Medicare out of a real chunk of change. Romney was instrumental in the Lab being sold to Corning. Earth to Pat:

You support Romney who gave Obama a model to go by for Obamacare.

Isn’t that the definition of being a hypocrite? You blame Santorum for supporting Spector who cast the deciding vote on Obamacare, but praise everything Romney has ever done.

I think the American people deserve to know how much money he has stashed away in offshore banks.

It’s my understanding it’s well over a BILLION dollars.

But REALLY, let’s get off these personal issues and get to the issues that will turn this Country around.

Was the debate sponsored by the National Enquirer?

  60. Interested Bystander's avatar Interested Bystander

Moderation is a “beautiful” thing isn’t it?

  61. Interested Bystander's avatar Interested Bystander

One more point and I’ll get off here:

I find it simply amazing that Ron Paul is running third in the polls, and he was allowed maybe 10 minutes of speaking time in a 2 hour debate. Now I will admit, I didn’t get to hear the last 15 minutes of the debate, and maybe Dr Paul got the rest of the time, but I doubt it.

I think the American people should be able to make up their OWN minds.

WE do not deserve to be told day after day that Paul is a “crack pot” or any other lable you want to put on him.

It is my belief that most people would agree on everything Paul says except for Foreign policy, but because we are being indoctrinated in to believing that war with Iran is inevitable, and we hear day after day that Paul’s policy is “dangerous”, people believe what they hear.

Tina commented some time ago that she had family serving now. My suggestion would be to talk to THEM and LISTEN to what they say. I would suggest to ANYONE who knows someone in the military should ask them about how they feel about us being in Country for so long.

Our troops will go in to ANYWHERE to get the job done, but it does the United States, our military personnel, or the Country we are in conflict with any good whatsoever for us to stay for as long as we have.

Our troops are UNwelcome in Afghanistan after 10 years of the United States OCCUPYING that supposed soveriegn Country.

And 6 more of our Military were killed in a helicopter crash yesterday in Afghanistan.

It’s unnecessary what we are doing, we accomplished our mission in 2 years in Afghanistan, but yet we are still trying to tell them how to do things.

Let’s be clear, we attacked Afghanistan because the Taliban hosted bin Laden. Our goal was to remove the Taliban, and capture bin Laden. We got rid of the Taliban, but didn’t “get” bin Laden.

The way you do that is to round up ALL the Taliban you can, put them on their knees in front of you and start with the highest ranking Taliban and ask him,”Where is bin Laden?”

If they don’t answer, you shoot him in the head and move to the next highest Taliban, and repeat the above until bin Laden is given up.

Is this “humane”? Absolutely NOT, but given whether I want OUR men to die, or the ENEMY to die, I side with the ENEMY paying the ultimate price.

And I wouldn’t really care what the rest of the World thought.

I have argued many times that if you conduct war in this way, we wouldn’t be messed with as much as we are.

    It really is amazing.

I believe “sensitivity” is over rated, ESPECIALLY in a war.
