I have been a fan of John Hammer of the Rhinoceros Times for years. So was my late father. I met with John several weeks ago and had a great discussion. I half jokingly stated that we may be the only 2 reporting entities in the area providing real news. John Hammer provides his article, “Under The Hammer” in print as well as the internet every Thursday. Sadly, in the home state of Edward R. Murrow, you will be hard pressed to find the truth in print elsewhere.

“Obama continues to say that the wealthy have “to pay their fair share” of taxes. What Obama doesn’t say is what that fair share is. Right now the top 50 percent of wage earners pay 97 percent of the taxes. The top 5 percent pay about 57 percent of the taxes and the top 1 percent pay 37 percent of the taxes.
It looks like the wealthy are paying their fair share, but it would be informative for Obama to tell the American people just what he thought a fair share for the wealthy was. Should the upper 50 percent of wage earners pay 99 percent of the taxes? Should the top 1 percent pay 75 percent?
Maybe the problem is not that the rich aren’t paying enough but that the federal government is giving away too much to whom it defines as poor. There is now a federal program to provide cell phones to poor people and they get 250 minutes of free time a month. How can a cell phone be a necessity? I lived most of my life without a cell phone and thought I was doing pretty well.
The average family defined by the federal government as living in poverty lives in an air-conditioned residence with two color televisions, cable or satellite service, a DVD and a VCR player and a PlayStation or an Xbox. Along with the refrigerator, oven and stove they have a microwave and a coffee maker in the kitchen. They also have a washer and dryer, ceiling fans and a cordless phone.
So people living in poverty live better than the Muse and I because we only have one television and don’t have cable or satellite, and we don’t have a game box. We didn’t have a microwave until a friend who was horrified that we lived in the dark ages gave us her old one. It is used mainly for heating milk, although I understand it has other purposes.
The average family living in poverty in the US isn’t struggling to buy food or pay medical bills but does struggle to pay the cable or satellite television bill and for air-conditioning in the summer.
These are people who qualify for government assistance because they, according to the federal definition, live in poverty.
The federal government can define poverty any way it wants. It would appear that the definition of poverty has gotten so high that people who don’t need help but are willing to accept help are getting a lot of federal dollars.
Why on earth should the federal government be helping families pay their cable bill or make the payments on their second television?
Obama is right, all Americans need to pay their fair share, but the problem is not at the top or at the bottom. Everyone should be able to agree that people who really need assistance should have it available. It appears that a large part of the problem may be that poverty has suffered from the equivalent of grade inflation. People who don’t need help are getting lots of it.”

Everytime I go to the Goodwill there is usually several NEW Cadillac,and other top of the line SUVs parked in the areas reserved for impaired people. Yet when you watch to see who it is who gets into them when leaving it is usually several overly obese black females who have 4 or 5 extremely unruly kids with them. If it isn’t a Cadillac SUV, it is other GM top of the line SUVs. Sadly the people who need impaired parking are forced to park elswhere. Theft from the Goodwill Stores is RAMPANT. They do not make any attempt to stop the thieves. My wife has watched some of them put stuff in the huge satchels that they call purses. Nobody dares to question them because they threaten to create a riot. These are people who ARE NOT EVEN WAGE EARNERS. They live off of FOOD STAMPS,and all sorts of freebies that is GIVEN to them by the state. They often live in a 15 room house, along with their friends, who also live at the same address which is usually zoned R-1 in which they SUBLET the rooms. All in violation of our city’s zoning ordnances.
…………Some of these people are employed but still collect food stamps.It would seem that if they can afford the payments on a Cadillac SUV then I think it is time for the government to turn off the FREEBIE STUFF. Some of these people OPENLY bragg about how they are getting away with their freebie stuff. These are Soetoro supporters. Yet Soetoro thinks that people like Joe the Plumber are so stupid that they are going to sit still for MORE ,and MORE being taken away from them to give to the SLIME who REFUSE TO WORK.
What is so funny is liberals believe in evolution. But they don’t want survival of the fittest which is at the core of evolution. They want to be lazy and get drunk or have fun, and steal from everyone so that they can live on and take even more.
Liberals are gearing up to say anyone who opposes Obama in the next election is racist. What about that Obama’s campaign is saying that they are going to kill Romney? Does that mean they are haters of whites, reverse racists, etc? I thought Obama was going to bring us all together. Fat chance of that.

(Reuters) – President Barack Obama’s healthcare law suffered a setback Friday when a U.S. appeals court ruled that it was unconstitutional to require all Americans to buy insurance or face a penalty.

Living in CA, about as liberal as it gets, we are seeing 2nd and 3rd generations on welfare. It’s sad, I mean really sad. The liberal’s social programs are killing these families AND this state is bankrupt. I hate to see poor people in this “Country of Plenty,” but it’s these dang programs that have removed all incentives for anyone getting off the systems and improving their lives, which could and would give them a sense of pride and purpose, therefore lifting their families out of poverty or near poverty levels. The liberals realized a long time ago that to enslave people to this kind of lifestyle will guarantee them to remain loyal to the hands that feed them, therefore the liberals will keep getting their votes. These are Human Beings, not votes, and it angers me at how America’s poor are being kept that way as well as being deceived by these slime buckets.
I want to scream that if they think Obama is their savior and someone who really cares about them, just remember, he has a brother who lives in a hut in Africa on $12. a year whom he hasn’t helped at all. A $25. check to Obama’s brother would over double his brother’s yearly income. Has he sent one? I sure haven’t heard about it if he did. Or that Obama’s (illegal immigrant) Aunt lives on welfare in Boston and has for years. Has BO tried to improve her life at all? I haven’t heard anything about that either, but knowing how Obama loves the attention, I’m sure it would have been reported at how ‘benevolent’ King Obama was if he had helped out his family members in some way.
The whole point of this is that America’s poor, who overwhelmingly voted for Obama, don’t seem to see that if he won’t even help out his blood kin, what makes them think he truly cares about them? You know, I really wouldn’t mind paying more in my taxes if I could truly see that America’s poor were REALLY being helped and not just kept in a situation that offers them no hope at all. This is a 50+ year battle that is only getting worse, not better, and it is designed to be that way…….all for votes. Doing this to people, continuing to take away their pride and dignity and keeping them in an eternal state of financial dependence should be a crime. How about using some of that money to teach job skills, independence, pride in accomplishments, maybe welfare only for a specified period of time while in training (not 3rd generation worth), & providing only food stamps, NOT checks that can be spent on ‘whatever?’ Work with local businesses who can hire those who have gone through different job training skills so that these Americans can at least depend on becoming productive citizens of their communities and good roll models and providers for their families. This is My hopes for the future of our country, the way it’s suppose to work. We promised everyone freedom in this country, with the chances and opportunity to become whatever or go wherever one’s ambitions and hard work could take them. The sky is the limit. However, as long as the current system exists and we let too much PC and liberal thinking influence so much of our lives, the sky will never be reached for many because the debt ceiling has lowered it for future generations. Whoever said that ‘Liberalism is a Mental Disorder’ is absolutely right, but I’ll go one step further. It’s evil in what it does to the American people and families of whatever color, race or religion.

A great post which, I’m sure, reflects what many of us are feeling.
I will, however, challenge you on CA’s most liberal status; I’m in MA, and we can give CA a run for it’s moonbat money any day.
You use the word ‘enslave,’ and that’s exactly what it is; rather than teaching the poor how to fish, they consistently give them the fish so that a whole new subclass of dependents is created. They get free stuff and vote for those who *give* them the free stuff. Complete dependence. These folks are brainwashed into believing that the libs are doing them a favor when, in reality, they’re killing generations with their freebies; all for votes, of course.
Barky has done jack squat for his bro in Africa; likewise, Auntie Zeituni. I live just north of Boston but work there, so I can tell you that there is no talk about what The Won has done for his Aunt. He has done nothing for her and she’s still hitting for the cycle of subsidized housing (which pisses off the *legal* citizens who’ve been waiting years for an apartment), welfare and food stamps. And she’s still illegal. If he were helping her, she’d be off welfare and living in her own place.
If you want a more horrible example, all you need do is look at the Native Americans and the disgraceful way they’ve been treated: Take their land and throw them all on reservations where the alcoholism rate is somewhere around 60% and the unemployment rate in the neighborhood of 80%. My Mom was Native and she always thanked the Good Lord that her Dad had skills and a good job and taught the kids how to make their own way, outside of the influence of the reservations; it was different here in the East. Most aren’t that lucky.
So, the twisted liberal philosophy isn’t limited to one particular group rather, to anyone they can ‘get to.’ It knows no bounds and they have no shame.
I fear for future generations because what kind of example are they being shown? All they see is entitlement.
This is why I’m so worried about what’s down the road.
Has anyone else noticed that those calling others names never have any factual responses to our concerns.
Teachers I know say kids on welfare have parents who don’t care. Parents are strung out on drugs, don’t show up on Back to school night, and just teach their kids the same thing. People too proud to accept welfare do anything to find work. They sew clothes, cut lawns, shovel snow, etc. Some even grow vegetables to get some food. It is the mindset that is the difference.

The casinos here are doing so well that these original Americans are giving huge sums of money to charities, as well as helping their own people, and showing others how someone’s dreams, along with hard work, can achieve anything. Thats not exactly true. While the casino money has helped some, most tribes don’t or cant have casinos where they live and a lot of those who do have casinos also have deep connections to the Vegas Boys. So they don’t see all the money they take in. The white man’s doing it to them again! John Stossel did a good report on the fact that most tribes are still on the federal dollar and they still live in hopeless poverty while the few tribes that don’t get handouts or casino dollars are thriving… of course! Its that federal Handout that explains why they Vote for Dems though.

Yes, I agree with you. I was talking about the ones here, where I live in CA. What few articles I’ve read, and I admit it hasn’t been many, the casinos are doing well, even in this economy, though not as well as a few years ago. Still, the native Americans have proved that, when gvmt gets out of the way and leaves people alone, we all have the ability to achieve whatever goals or ambitions we desire.

Jerome, I’m afraid you’re right! Casinos are the entities people point to and say ‘Gee, isn’t that great that the Natives are doing so well.’ Not so fast! Casinos are a corporation, just like any other and ‘unsavory types’ do have their fingers in them. Sounds like a Chicago shakedown to me.
The entire Native structure is pathetic and if you do any research on the Plains Indians, you’ll see a different story from what is portrayed in our wonderful media: Government-dependent, with not enough money for basic necessities. Hunger. The Southwest Indian Foundation, among others, is one of the organizations that helps supply staples to Indian populations, by selling Native-made clothing and crafts. When one of the items you can purchase and donate to a family in ND is a wood stove for the winter and a food basket, you know things are pretty bad.
Just like any other gub’mint-dependent population, the Natives are kept that way for votes. No opportunities, just a life of dependence. Sad to see how this ‘society’ treats America’s indigenous peoples, isn’t it?
Sorry, but I can’t listen to any other ‘group’ talking about racism or slavery or discrimination or being ‘held down.’ I just can’t.

In case you haven’t yet heard:
1. The people are angry. Their petitions to their elected representatives have fallen on deaf ears;
2. The putative pResident is NOT, repeat NOT, a natural born Citizen – as required by Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution;
3. All elected officials, from City Councils on up through State Assemblies, all the way up to the Justices of the Supreme Court and to the Presidency itself, – all swear an oath to uphold and defend that very Constitution – in its entirety, without exception.
4. Not a single State has been able to pass a Presidential Eligibility bill so far; but that may soon change.
Patriot Carl Swensson and a group of patriots are rallying at the Georgia State Capitol on Monday, August 15, 2011, in order to help that State Legislature come to their senses concerning their Oath – and the consequences of continuing to violate it, as we progress into another presidential election year.
If you live near Georgia, or have relatives anywhere near the great State of GA, let everyone know that their attendance at this event will probably be the most patriotic thing they can do in the weeks ahead.
